Chapter 13

Asuka was the first to wake up, she looked around for a few seconds, she felt Shinji's body under her head, she could feel the movement of his breath, Asuka felt her body aching as she realized that neither of them had moved during the night.

Asuka noticed that Shinji had an arm wrapped around her shoulder, she looked cautiously at the visible part of Shinji's hand, closed her eyes again and let out a small smile.

Shinji woke up shortly after Asuka, he was relaxed having had a nightmare free night, he looked around his room and noticed a weight on his shoulder, as he turned his face he was faced with a set of red hair, he felt his eyes go wide, he began to remember the night before, Shinji could swear it had been a dream.

Asuka noticing the stiffness of Shinji's body, she judged that he had woken up, she sighed and spoke quietly.

"Baka? ... Are you awake?" Asuka asks quietly, she still kept her eyes closed.

Shinji realizes that he had to answer, he swallowed dryly and took a breath.

"Yeah, sorry if I woke you up." Shinji replies looking up at the ceiling, he can feel his anxiety rising.

Asuka shakes her head slightly and replies. "Stop apologizing for nothing, I had already woken up a few minutes ago. "

Shinji relaxed a little, he remembered how upset Asuka was about being woken up, she liked to sleep as much as she could, his inner reflection was cut off by Asuka's question.

"What time is it?" Asuka asks still keeping her eyes closed, she speaks in a sleepy voice.

Shinji raises his head and looks at the small digital clock on the wall in front of the mirror.

"It is now 7:43 a.m." Shinji speaks as he looks at his watch and then back to staring at the nothingness on the ceiling.

Asuka upon hearing the time, feels her eyes widening, even though it was still early, she was not used to waking up "Late", she had missed a synchronization test.

"Shit." Asuka spoke in annoyance.

"What is it?" Shinji asked curiously.

"I missed a synchronization test." Asuka spoke as she began to get up, she sat on the bed and stretched her arms snapping her knuckles.

Shinji only looked at Asuka's back. "I'm sorry."

Asuka huffed and got out of bed, she bent down and started to put on her sneakers. "Stop apologizing for things that aren't your fault."

Shinji felt an urge to apologize again, but bit his tongue as he knew it would cause problems for him.

"I have to go Baka, I have to take this stupid test and listen to Maya trying to sound imposing about me being late." Asuka spoke as she finished putting on her sneakers and turned to look at Shinji, she was still on the bed, but he was sitting up.

Asuka didn't know what to do, she approached Shinji and spoke. "Thank you."

Shinji looked at her confused, "For what?"

Asuka rolled her eyes, and spoke with false annoyance. "For letting me stay."

Shinji let out a small laugh, he looked down and replied. "No problem."

Asuka nodded and walked to the door, but before she left she spoke still without turning around. "And Shinji ... Thank you ... Thank you for being alive, even though you are a brat." Asuka spoke as she left the room, she didn't turn around so Shinji wouldn't see the blush on her face.

Shinji smiled at the door where Asuka came out, he felt a good feeling in his chest hearing that sentence, he could feel that it must have been hard for her to speak that simple sentence.

Asuka was walking with accelerated steps towards the place where the synchronization tests had been, she was walking like that not because she was late, but because of the embarrassing moment she had just had with Shinji.

Upon arriving at the site, Maya was facing her console analyzing Mari's readings that were on the input plug already doing the test.

Maya noticed Asuka approaching and allowed herself to put a shy smile on her face, after all she had crossed paths with Colonel Katsuragi and she had told her about Asuka sleeping with Shinji last night.

"Where were you?" Maya spoke as she typed, she was preparing Asuka's entry plug.

"It's not your business." Asuka spoke dryly as she headed toward the entrance plug.

"Is the Princess?" Mari's voice sounded through the room's speakers.

"Yes, she just arrived." Maya replied to Mari.

Mari, listening to Maya, grinned from ear to ear, she knew where Asuka had spent the night and that was a full plate of teasing.

Asuka sat on her plug and did the activation procedure, as the test for her began, she tried to concentrate, but only kept thinking about the night she spent, this was Asuka's best night in years, and she couldn't tell when it was that she felt comfortable.

"So princess, how was your 'Night'?" Mari spoke mischievously.

Asuka felt her blood freeze at the question, she didn't expect Mari to already know, she was thinking that she would generate an excuse on the way to throw off any intruders, she had to answer and fast.

"Good, I left before you woke up Four Eyes." Asuka lied, she knew that lie would not put with Mari.

Mari only shook her head and smiled wider. "Okay princess."

Asuka squeezed the space between her eyes and sighed, she knew she was going to have a lot of headache with Mari, she decided to try to concentrate on the task.

When the test was over, the girls went to lunch, getting through a four hour test was not an easy task.

Asuka was sitting at a table in front of Mari, she was concentrating on her food, when she heard Mari start to talk.

"Hi guys, sit with us." Mari spoke gesturing to Rei and Sakura who were getting their food, Asuka sighed, not that she didn't want company, she had too much on her mind to deal with.

As Sakura and Rei sat down, Mari turned to blue head and spoke. "So Rei, how is your first day as Ritsuko's assistant going?"

Rei looked at Mari and replied. "It's being productive, I'm helping the sub-commander as best I can."

"Well, and are you enjoying it?" Mari continued as she brought food to her mouth.

Rei thought about the answer for a while, she was enjoying having a new purpose, she was enjoying the feeling of being useful.

"Yes, it is good to have a purpose." Rei spoke as he ate some of her food.

Mari smiled at the answer, she smiled mischievously and turned to Sakura. "My dear friend Sakura."

Sakura froze in place, she knew that Mari was using her to provoke someone.

"Could you explain to me why sex with recovering patients can be harmful?" Mari concludes as she eats more of her paste.

Sakura blushed heavily, she started to think about Shinji, he was the only recovering patient they had at Wunder, she started to put two and two together, Rei was with sub-commander Akagi and then with her, she looked at Asuka who was sitting next to Rei.

Asuka was frozen in place, she was desperately trying to control her blush on her face.

Sakura let out a muffled scream and put her hands over her mouth as she looked at Asuka.

Asuka seeing this raised her gaze and spoke as firmly as possible, she whispered so that only those at the table could hear.

"I didn't have sex with Shinji, I just spent the night." Asuka spoke, but soon realized how silly she had spoken, by the shocked look on Sakura's face, Rei kept her traditional form, Mari was smiling.

" Do you want to know? Fuck you guys." Asuka spoke as she stood up, but was restrained by Mari's arm, and sat down again.

"Easy princess, we are only kidding." Mari spoke laughing, Asuka sat up and went back to poking at her food folder.

When everyone was eating and chatting away, the rest of lunch passed without further interruption.

Sebastian Commander's Office

Sebastian was looking at some documents that were on his desk, he quickly fell into the repair status of the Wunder, nobody still knew why the mighty battleship Wunder was inactive, all the scientists didn't know what else to do.

Sebastian snorted in annoyance, he didn't care about the pile of papers on his desk, he still couldn't get it out of his head who it was that took Shinji off his hands, he couldn't believe he managed to lose a broken boy, and still had no sign of where Number Two's whereabouts were.

Sebastian was thinking that without confirmation of Number Two's death, he was screwed, because if he opened his beak to anyone, he could be arrested for treason.

The soldier named Number One was sitting reading a magazine on the chair near Sebastian's desk.

Sebastian signaled to be alone in the room, the soldier did as he was told and left, when Sebastian was alone, he opened his drawer and took out a small device and activated it, the room darkened and a monolith written "sound only" appeared in front of him.

After a few seconds of silence, a voice was heard, that voice was Gendo Ikari's.

"What?" was the only thing Gendo spoke coldly.

"Do you have any sign of the boy?" Sebastian replied copying the same cold tone as Gendo, he was not afraid of him.

"You missed the opportunity with your incompetence, it is your problem to find out Shinji's current location." Gendo retorted as he turned off his monolith.

Sebastian bit his lip to keep from cursing, but he restrained himself, in fact it was Gendo who was helping him in his project of new Evas, he quickly began to think of a solution to be able to take back control, he had to find Shinji.

NERV

"You missed the opportunity with your incompetence, it is your problem to find out Shinji's current location." Gendo retorted as he turned off his monolith and returned to his current pose.

"You know it's only a matter of time before we have Shinji and unit one." Fuyutsuki spoke without lifting his eyes from his book.

"I know, Sebastian thinks he has some control, let's make him still believe that." Gendo spoke still without moving.

Fuyutsuki glanced over at Gendo. "Do you think Shinji is with Katsuragi now?"

Gendo only let out a sound with his mouth. "It is possible, if he is with Colonel Katsuragi, which is a path within expectations, this confirms that the spy is still alive and has rescued Shinji from Sebastian."

"What about Sebastian?" Kozo asked as he read again.

"He will get what he deserves for his incompetence, when what he did to Shinji comes to light, he thinks he has everything under control." Gendo spoke as he hid a small smile in his hands.

Kozo only shook his head and let out a sigh. "You don't even care what he did to your son?"

Gendo was silent for a few seconds. "No, Shinji will understand when the time comes."

Kozo just looked up from his book, he took a breath, sighed, read again, and silence reigned again in the partially destroyed room.

Shinji's makeshift room

After a few days Shinji was feeling his body improving, it was all due to the medicine and his diet, he received regular visits from Misato, Asuka and Sakura. He could understand that they couldn't stay with him for longer, they had their duties, but he was happy for the short time they could spend with him.

Shinji had not yet had that conversation with Misato, he was thankful that he hadn't.

Shinji was snapped out of his trance by the sound of the door opening and seeing Ritsuko enter accompanied by Maya, she kept her face as neutral as ever and Maya was Maya.

"Hi Shinji, how are you?" Ritsuko asked professionally.

"Well ... I guess." Shinji replied looking down. "My chest still hurts."

"That's normal, broken ribs take time to stop hurting, even though they've healed." Ritsuko spoke as she made notes on a clipboard. "Could you take off your blouse?"

Shinji only nodded, he raised his arms slowly, making some painful movements, Maya seeing that Shinji was having difficulty raising his arms, walked to his side.

"Let me help you." Maya spoke as she slowly began to remove Shinji's shirt.

"Thank you." Shinji spoke as he had his shirt removed, she was still looking down, even though everyone was kind to him, Shinji was still embarrassed to look people in the eye.

Maya smiled at Shinji and stepped aside so Ritsuko could examine Shinji's chest, it was still purple, but it looked better, she removed some blood samples.

"Okay, see you later." Ritsuko spoke as she turned so she could leave, but stopped when she heard Shinji's question.

"Dr. Akagi ... How ... How is Rei?" Shinji asked without lifting his gaze, he had yet to see Rei from her arrest, the last time he had seen her was when he was taken to the UN, but it wasn't for long.

Ritsuko raised an eyebrow at Shinji, she didn't expect him to ask something like that, "She's fine Shinji, she's here at Wunder and I appointed her my personal assistant."

Shinji felt relieved at the answer, he was afraid that she had suffered the same fate as him, just knowing that she was safe was good news.

"Would you like to see her?" Maya asked innocently, she received a look of doubt from Ritsuko.

"Is that possible?" Shinji asked confused, he was beginning to understand why he was in this room and couldn't leave, he thought hard about what Asuka had told him.

"Yes." Was Ritsuko's cold reply, she received a nod from Shinji in confirmation.

"I'll tell her to come here in the afternoon." Ritsuko spoke as she wrote down a few more things on her clipboard.

Shinji nodded, but he can't help but feel confused, she still remembered Fuyutsuki's words about her being a clone of his mother, he was coming to terms with that, he was starting to refer to Rei as his sister in his head, this was strange to Shinji, as he had always been an only child, and having a sister had a good meaning in Shinji's head.

Ritsuko only gave a small nod and left the room, when Shinji was alone again he thought back to the night he spent with Asuka.

Ritsuko's office

Rei was organizing a stack of papers that Ritsuko had asked her to pick up, she was enjoying her task, it was simple, but doing something other than piloting was different for Rei, the sensations she was experiencing made her happy inside.

She was almost finished when Ritsuko entered the room, she continued her work.

"Rei ... I have news for you." Ritsuko spoke as she sat down in her chair.

Rei stopped what she was doing and gave Ritsuko her full attention.

"Shinji wants to see you." Ritsuko spoke bluntly.

Rei felt her heart racing, she didn't know why, but it felt good to finally be able to see Shinji.

"Right." That was Rei's simple answer.

Ritsuko already knowing Rei's speaking style continued.

"I'll ask pilot Makinami to go with you, she knows the way." Ritsuko spoke as she began to look at one of the papers that were on her desk. "You can go now."

"Yes ma'am." Rei spoke professionally as she turned and left the room.

Rei was walking to Mari and Asuka's room, this was the only place where she believed she would find Mari, she was thinking on the way about her meeting with Shinji, she was wondering how she would proceed, what she would talk about, this doubt was driving Rei crazy.

When she reached the room, she knocked on the door and waited, after a few seconds, she raised her arm and knocked again, still getting no answer, Rei started thinking of possible places to find Mari, but that would not be necessary, as she heard Mari's voice speaking.

"Rei? ... What do you owe your visit?" Mari cheerfully spoke as she saw Rei standing in front of her bedroom door.

Rei turned and looked at Mari. "I came to pick you up so we could go visit someone."

Mari noticing Rei's tone smiled, for she was finally going to talk to Shinji.

"OK then, let's go." Mari spoke as she joined Rei in walking toward where Shinji was.

The way to the place was silent, Mari was thinking about what subject she would use to be able to start a conversation with Rei.

"So Rei ... How's your day been?" Mari spoke as she looked at Rei.

"Well, I'm adapting well to the tasks that Subcommander Akagi is passing on to me."

Mari nodded. "Sakura told me that she is developing a medicine for you."

Rei nodded her head. "That's right, I hope she makes it." Rei realizing that only Mari was asking the questions decided to ask. "What about you? ... How is your day?"

Mari was still surprised by Rei asking questions, she thinks it's cute that she's trying to start conversations, she was happy for her to ask and take an interest in her day.

"It's going well, everything within the normal range." Mari replied smiling.

The pair walked for a few minutes until they reached the bedroom door, both were anxious to enter, Mari decided to enter the other room so she could see what Shinji was doing, when she saw that he was reading a book, she saw that it was safe to enter.

Mari left the room and found Rei waiting for her in front of the door, she sighed and spoke.

"This is it." Mari raised her arm and knocked on the door to inform them that someone would be coming in after a few seconds, Mari opened the door and entered followed by Rei.

"Hi Puppy." Mari spoke cheerfully as she gestured with her hand.

"Hello Ikari." Rei spoke in her normal voice, she didn't know how she should proceed, Rei thought it best to let things happen naturally.

Shinji looked at Mari with a confused look, he was trying to remember where he had seen her, he changed his view to Rei and allowed himself to give a shy smile, he was relieved that she was okay.

Mari approached Shinji's bed, she still kept the smile on her face.

"Don't you remember me?" Mari spoke up, pouting.

Shinji was making every mental effort to remember Mari, he lowered his gaze to his legs, after a few seconds he finally remembered Mari, he spoke still without raising his gaze.

"You ... Are you that girl who fell on me on the roof?" Shinji spoke as he raised his gaze to Mari.

Mari at this point smiled again and spoke.

"That, I knew you would never forget me with my triumphant entrance." Mari spoke as she sat down in one of the chairs in the room and began looking through the books he had on the table, she smiled devilishly.

"I bet they are porn books." Mari spoke as she analyzed the cover of a book she picked up at random.

Shinji at this point blushed and stuttered in response.

"No! ... They're not, Sakura brought me to pass the time." Shinji spoke with a red face.

Mari started to laugh, she was thinking that Shinji was even easier to tease than Asuka and Sakura combined.

"Easy puppy, I know you won't leave the porn in plain sight and if you don't have it, I'll bring it to you. "Mari spoke with a mischievous smile.

Shinji stared at Mari with a look of shock on his face, everyone in the room could see that Shinji's vital signs began to increase, Rei thought it prudent to intervene.

"Mari, I believe you are making Ikari uncomfortable." Rei spoke still standing where she had stood upon entering, but she can't help but find it amusing to see Shinji's reactions.

Mari looked at Rei and pouted again. "Rei, you are not funny."

Rei wanted to ask Mari the meaning, but thought it best to do it another time, she looked at Shinji and the two stared at each other for a while until Shinji shyly asked.

"How are you Rei?" Shinji asked shyly.

Rei looked at Shinji and began to formulate a response.

"I'm fine." Rei replied in his normal voice.

"Good." Shinji spoke as he lowered his gaze to the bed, his mind turned to Fuyutsuki's words, he again looked at Rei and began to think.

- This is very strange. - Shinji thought as he analyzed Rei's face.

Mari, seeing the strange situation in front of her, remembered that Rei was being Ritsuko's personal assistant and decided to speak up to ease the tension in the room and make a point.

"Puppy, did you know that Rei was appointed Ritsuko's personal assistant?" Mari spoke still without lifting her gaze from the book in her hands.

Shinji shifted his gaze to look at Mari, he was glad that Mari remembered this.

"Yes, Ritsuko told me." He looked at Rei again. "And how is being, Rei?"

Rei had looked quickly back at Mari and looked back at Shinji, she didn't know why she hadn't mentioned this detail before, Rei was still trying to decipher this discomfort she was feeling from visiting Shinji.

- Is this feeling I am feeling what books call anxiety? - Rei was thinking as she analyzed her feelings, she stopped her mental reverie to answer Shinji.

"Yes, it's being very productive." Rei replied simply, she began to think about how she could better her way of talking, she decided to ask Shinji.

"And are your books being productive?" Rei asked normally.

Shinji looked at Rei a little upset at the question, he didn't remember Rei being the type to ask questions.

"They are being yes, they help me pass the time." Shinji replied with a small smile on his face.

Mari was smiling as she listened to Rei's question, she was happy that she was evolving in her social skills.

The trio talked for a while, Mari took charge of the conversation so they could make the most of it, she was happy to finally be talking to Shinji, by the way Mari loved meeting other people. The same was happening to Rei, she was happy to finally be talking to Shinji, she felt a relief in her chest to be seeing him alive.

After a few minutes of conversation, Mari stood up and spoke.

"Well Puppy, I'll let you rest, I really enjoyed talking to you." Mari spoke as she approached the door.

"It was nice talking to you guys too." Shinji spoke watching the girls heading towards the door, he realized he still didn't know Mari's name.

"Wait!" Shinji spoke as he saw the girls opening the door, they stopped and turned to him.

"I don't know your name yet." Shinji spoke clumsily to Mari, she smiled at him and remembered that she had not introduced herself to Shinji yet, Mari approached Shinji again and spoke as she extended her hand to him.

"True, my name is Mari ... Mari Makinami ... Nice to officially meet you Shinji." Mari spoke cheerfully.

Shinji slowly raised his arm and gently squeezed Mari's hand.

"Likewise." Shinji spoke as he released Mari's hand.

Mari turned around again and headed toward the already open door, she stopped before leaving and waved her hand at Shinji, Rei stopped before leaving, turned around and looked at Shinji.

"Glad to see you are doing well and recovering Ikari." Rei spoke with a small smile on her face, she turned around and left.

Shinji smiled at the scene in front of him, he smiled at the now closed door and picked up his book again to continue reading.

In the hallway, Mari was thinking about the moment she passed with Shinji, she turned to Rei who was with her normal expression on her face.

"Everything went well, I still feel like hugging him, but his body is not yet ready for one of my famous bear hugs." Mari spoke maintaining her cheerful style.

Rei was in her own world, she had listened to Mari, she quickly formulated a response.

"I'm glad Ikari is recovering, I believe this visit was very productive." Rei spoke cheerfully, but few could see this small change in Rei's tone, only the people most intimate with Rei were able to begin to see his emotions.

Mari was happy that she was beginning to understand Rei's emotions, so the two went their separate ways, Rei went back to Ritsuko's room to continue her duties, while Mari was heading towards her room.

Wunder Bridge

The shifts were shorter, as the Wunder was not in operation at the moment, Misato was sitting in her chair looking at the crew members working at their respective stations, she was feeling bored with this, Misato was thinking about how she wants a beer at the moment.

Misato began to control herself again, after Shinji's return, she got rid of the drinks in her room, she was gradually decreasing her alcohol consumption, she was brought out of her thoughts when an alert sounded, she directed her gaze to the warning location, it was coming from the communication panel.

Hideki Tama pushed a few buttons at his post and turned to Misato.

"Colonel, I have a message for you from Commander Sebastian." Tama spoke professionally to Misato.

Misato's expression became noticeably somber, Tama couldn't hide her expression of fear when she saw Misato's look, she stood up and went to the panel beside her, she pressed a few buttons and read Sebastian's message.

Misato huffed in frustration as she finished reading, Sebastian wanted her to come to his office immediately, Misato not wanting to see Sebastian after what he did to Shinji, but she had to keep up appearances until Kaji could act.

Misato typed again on the panel and waited for Ritsuko's image to appear.

"I'm leaving, Commander Sebastian wants to take care of some business with me, keep the ship in order until I return." Misato firmly spoke to Ritsuko who only nodded, Misato turned off the Video Feed and started heading off the bridge.

The way to WILLE's HQ was quick, Misato was in the office waiting room, she was waiting to get in, Misato was making all his mental effort to stay calm, he couldn't show that he knew about Shinji.

"You can come in." The secretary spoke to Misato who stood up and entered the room.

Misato stopped in front of Sebastian's table and greeted him, she was looking at him sitting at his table, she saw how easy it would be to kill him, but she quickly cleared the image of Sebastian dead and pulled herself together.

"Colonel Katsuragi, why isn't Wunder flying?" Sebastian spoke as he raised his gaze and faced Misato, he couldn't help but notice Misato's deadly gaze on him, but decided to ignore it.

Misato took a deep breath and replied dryly. "We don't know yet."

Sebastian narrowed his eyes and sighed heavily.

"I want an answer." Sebastian growled.

"No answer, the core that powered Wunder stopped, we still don't know how to reactivate it." Rebutted Misato in annoyance.

After a few seconds, Sebastian clasped his hands together in annoyance.

"Not sure if your team is the problem?" Sebastian spoke up to further irritate Misato.

Misato felt his temper rise. "No, my team is more than qualified than anyone you think can help, we've been working together since the NERV days."

Sebastian sighed in annoyance at the tone Misato had used and was using against him.

"If this ship is not in the air in the next two months Colonel, you can say goodbye." Sebastian threatened Misato. "Is that clear?"

Misato nodded and replied dryly. "Perfectly."

"Dismissed." Sebastian spoke as he looked again at the papers on his desk.

Misato greeted him again and turned and left the room, as she was walking away she looked back to see if she had the privacy, when she saw that she was alone, she quickly landed a kick on the wall.

"Son of a bitch." Misato spoke as he kicked the wall in front of him.

- Kaji, for God's sake, be faster. - Thought Misato annoyed as she returned to her walk.

Wunder - A few weeks later.

Misato was in his office going through some papers. "How can a ship that is standing still do so much paperwork?"

Misato was typing on her computer when she felt her cell phone ring.

"Hello?" Misato spoke professionally.

"Hello Katsuragi, how are you?" Kaji's voice comes up, he always had his usual confidence.

Misato realizing it was Kaji, turned on the listening device, and after the room was secure she spoke.

"Kaji, give me good news." Misato spoke tiredly.

Kaji realizing Misato's tone, decided to skip the provocations he had been thinking about.

"Yes I do, I believe I have the necessary information." Kaji spoke nonchalantly.

Misato could feel the happiness inside her increase, she could finally put an end to Sebastian, but she felt that Kaji was not finished talking yet.

"What is the 'but' of the question?" Misato spoke anticipating Kaji.

"I'll need Shinji, I want him in Principal Laura's office." Kaji spoke seriously.

Misato raised an eyebrow at that, she shifted in her chair. "And why do you need it Kaji? ... Isn't the evidence you must have gotten enough?"

"Yes, but having the testimony of the person Sebastian used for that should be a straight shot." Kaji spoke, he still kept his tone serious. "Sebastian is a powerful man, we will need every weapon we have."

Misato had no arguments to rebut, she sighed and spoke again.

"Okay, I'll talk to him." Misato spoke wearily, she was beginning to wonder about Shinji's reactions to meeting Sebastian.

"Okay, I'm hanging up, when this is all over we're going out to dinner." Kaji spoke confidently on the other end of the line, he didn't give Misato time to respond as he had already turned off his cell phone.

Misato had a confused look on her face as she stared at her cell phone, she couldn't deny that she was missing Kaji's advances, she thought about it and was wondering if she should accept the invitation, by the way it wouldn't be bad to have a night off, she got up and started heading towards Shinji's makeshift room.

Shinji was standing, he was looking at himself in the mirror, he ran his hand over the scars on his left cheek, they were already healed, but had left visible marks.

Shinji sighed as memories came into his head, he began to remember all the times he was hurt by Sebastian, he felt like he wanted to cry, but he began to hold back the emotion at every moment.

"You're not there anymore." Shinji repeated a few times to calm his heart and body.

Shinji was taken out of his mental duel when he heard the door open, he quickly wiped away the few tears that escaped and turned to see who it was, he was happy to see that it was Misato.

Misato was carrying two trays of food, she thought it would be good for them to be able to talk while they had something for lunch.

"Hi Shinji, how are you?" Misato spoke as he approached Shinji. "I hope you are hungry."

Shinji wasn't hungry, but he really appreciated Misato's attempt, he grabbed the cart he had in the corner so they could prop up the trays.

After the pair had settled down, Misato took a bite and grimaced at the taste of the paste she had chosen for herself, Misato never liked Wunder's food.

Shinji kept his comments to himself, he didn't want to spoil the moment.

"The food tastes earthy today." Misato spoke as he wiped his mouth.

Shinji can't help but smile at the comment, he remembered Misato's food in the apartment, Asuka classified as a biological weapon.

"Maybe I can do something for you ... If it's possible of course." Shinji spoke clumsily as he brought his food to his mouth.

Misato can't help but smile at Shinji's offer. "Who knows in the future." Misato concluded.

After the pair finished eating, Misato settled back in his chair and looked into Shinji's eyes, he still had a lifeless, depressed look, but he was getting a little sparkle and hope in his eyes again.

"Shinji, I have something to talk to you about." Misato spoke seriously, but was trying to sound calm.

Shinji only nodded, he was beginning to worry about everything, his mind was beginning to tell him that this was the moment that everything would turn out to be a lie.

After a few seconds Misato spoke again. "Kaji told me that he will need you." Misato paused.

"Kaji ... Kaji is alive?" Shinji spoke with confusion.

Misato looked again at Shinji and spoke. "Yes, he was the one who found out where you were and rescued you."

Shinji began to remember the day in question, he remembered someone holding him and then feeling a sharp pain in his arm, after that he remembers looking at Ritsuko, Shinji nodded and went back to listening to Misato.

"So Kaji called me and told me he wants you in the UN director's office, he wants you to talk about everything Sebastian did to you to her ... He wants your help to take Sebastian down and give him what he deserves." Misato spoke calmly.

Shinji was thinking, he didn't know if he could look at Sebastian again, but he couldn't run anymore, he had to face his demons, he nodded.

This act surprised Misato, she expected him to deny it, but he did just the opposite, she can't help but smile.

"Well, I'll be there with you." Misato spoke with a motherly smile on her face.

Shinji can't help but smile back at her, after they came to an agreement about this, Misato started asking Shinji about the night he spent with Asuka, her insinuation made Shinji blush heavily.

The conversation was happy and relaxed.

Kaji's hiding place - A few hours later.

Kaji had received the message from Misato saying that he would help, Kaji couldn't help but smile at this brave attitude of Shinji, Kaji got up and went into the room where he had left number two.

"Hello 'number Two', ready to spill the beans to the UN director? If you help me again I can get you a nice deal." Kaji spoke as he leaned on the wall a few feet away from Number Two.

Number Two thought for a while, he knew he was damned by Sebastian for helping Kaji, he pondered the idea and nodded.

"Good." Kaji spoke as he turned and left the room.

Kaji came out of the small house where he was hiding and picked up his cell phone to make a call, after a few seconds of ringing, Laura answered the call in English.

"Hi Laura, remember me?"

Author's Notes: Please review, your critiques (Good or bad) are very important to me, you know that I take a lot into consideration what is said and it also gives me strength to continue this translation project, of course the translation will have problems, but hopefully it will be at satisfactory levels.

Don't forget to also like the Facebook page, search for "Calborghete" and locate a picture of Shinji and Asuka, on this page I will post updates and it will also be easier for you to contact me.

Well, see you next time.
