Chapter 14 - Fall.

Laura Barbosa's Office - UN Director

Laura was typing on her computer, she was reviewing the aid budget for which nations would have priority in the world reconstruction project.

Laura's office could be described as simple, it was spacious, but not luxurious.

Laura was reading a document when her cell phone rang, she stopped what she was doing, picked up the device and stared at it, Laura was confused about who was calling, she didn't know the number that appeared on the screen, she stared at the device for a few more seconds and answered, she decided to answer in English, it was easier in case it was someone from outside the country.

"Hi Laura, remember me?"

Laura knew this voice in Japanese, but she was not recognizing it, she answered in Japanese calmly.

"No." Laura spoke dismissively, but politely.

"Oh, you really don't remember the guy who helped you take out the SEELE fanatics?" Kaji asked, he was feeling a little upset that Laura didn't remember him at first.

Laura frowned, she was trying to remember who the owner of that voice was, she began to remember the times a good few years ago, she finally remembered and bowed her head with a small smile on her face.

"I thought you was dead." Laura spoke with a small smile on her face, but it soon disappeared with a thought that came into her head, she remembered Kaji's words about him staying hidden, she began to wonder if he needed anything.

"I'm glad you remembered me, I was getting worried if you had forgotten such a handsome man like me." Kaji spoke quietly into his cell phone.

Laura can't help but laugh low at Kaji's phrase, he considered Kaji a good looking man.

"What do you want Kaji?" Laura spoke trying to sound like she didn't care, but she failed drastically, this little act of Laura's was noticed by Kaji on the other end of the line, he smiled as he realized that she was willing to listen to what he had to say.

"I need to talk to you, it's important, I can't talk over the phone." Kaji spoke seriously.

Laura felt the adrenaline start to flow in her body, she knew that Kaji would only have contacted her if he had found some important information, she knew that he was direct and cautious when it came to information.

"Can you come to my office?" Laura spoke as she changed her tone and became serious.

Kaji smiled as he learned that Laura was still the woman he remembered, he couldn't help but feel relieved to know that she hadn't gone soft from becoming UN director.

"Yes, but I can't give you a specific day, so don't worry if I suddenly appear in your living room." Kaji spoke seriously.

Laura shook her head, she knew her office was reliable, she after the war against SEELE routinely had it inspected for bugs, but she could understand Kaji's fear.

"You're very paranoid, you know that don't you?" Laura spoke with a forced laugh.

Kaji can't help but laugh. "In my line of work you can't be too careful."

"True. " Laura spoke as she agreed with her head.

"I have to go now, I'll be in touch again in a few days." Kaji spoke as he hung up his cell phone.

Laura seeing that the line went silent, she turned off the device and placed it on her desk, she stood up and went to the window and started to look out at the city, she was starting to get worried about the whole thing, Laura felt a shiver run down her back as she started to wonder if SEELE was coming back.

Kaji's Hideout

"I have to go now, I'll be in touch again in a few days." Kaji spoke as he hung up his cell phone.

Kaji looked at the cell phone in his hand and smiled at this, he was close to revealing the truth, he was close to getting justice for Shinji and clearing his name once and for all.

He got up and went to his small kitchen to have a cup of tea, he began to think about what he would do with the prisoner he had in the basement of his hiding place. "I'll leave that to Laura." Kaji concluded as he sipped his tea while leaning on the small kitchen counter.

Three days had passed since Kaji had called Laura, she figured she had waited long enough to call again and arrange a meeting. Kaji picked up his cell phone and dialed Laura's number again.

After a few seconds she answered. "Hello."

"Hi Laura, it's me." Kaji spoke in his normal voice.

Laura didn't answer right away. "Hi, I'm waiting for you."

Kaji can't help but smile at her answer, but he felt a little bad for keeping her waiting all these days.

"So, change of plan, I won't be coming to your office anymore for the time being." Kaji spoke with a smile on his face.

Kaji could hear an irritated snort from the other end of the line, he widened his smile.

"So what's it going to be like?" Laura asked visibly annoyed.

"You will come to me." Kaji spoke as naturally as possible.

"Hahaha ... very funny Kaji." Laura spoke from the other end of the line laughing falsely.

Kaji said nothing, his silence would answer.

Laura seeing that he hadn't said anything else, pulled the cell phone away from her ear and could hear that the call had not been ended, she quickly spoke.

"Are you serious?" Laura spoke as she spoke seriously.

"More serious impossible." Kaji spoke seriously as well.

"Kaji, I can't just leave." Laura spoke up.

"I know you'll get your way." Kaji spoke with a smile on his face.

"I'll send the location, don't worry, it will all be worth it." Kaji concluded as he hung up his cell phone.

Laura's Office - UN

"I'll send the location, don't worry, it will all be worth it." Kaji concluded as he hung up his cell phone.

Laura was looking on in shock to see that Kaji had hung up before she answered, she huffed in annoyance and put her cell phone on the table, she heard the device make a noise and again picked it up, she saw that it was Kaji's coordinates along with a text message.

51°41'08.4 "N 054'28.0 "W

See you tomorrow

Kaji

"How do I get there?" Laura spoke angrily, she was a busy woman.

Laura put her hands in her hair and snorted in annoyance, Laura realized she couldn't complain, she would have to find time to go to the meeting with Kaji the next day, she reminded herself of her assistant.

Laura took a few breaths and raised her head, she called to her assistant.

After a few seconds the assistant opened the door and spoke. "Ma'am?"

Laura looked at her assistant and spoke calmly. "I want you to clear my schedule for tomorrow, I will need the morning and part of the afternoon free."

Laura's assistant rolled her eyes at her.

Laura noticing the look on her assistant's face spoke with a smile on her face. "I know it sucks, but it's important, you have my permission to do whatever it takes."

The assistant nodded and left the room, Laura can't help but feel guilty about the task she has just given her assistant. "Poor thing, she's going to have a lot of work." Laura concluded as she went back to work on her computer, she was preparing for a joint video conference between the President of Russia and the President of the United States.

"That call is going to be tough." Laura spoke as she remembered the temperament of the rival nations, she arranged herself in her chair and typed a few keys and a screen opened with the presidents image.

The next morning Laura was driving to the coordinates that Kaji had given her, she was wondering what this information he had was.

A beep alerted her that she had arrived, Laura stopped the car and got out, the day was cold and cloudy, it was threatening to start raining, she found herself in the middle of a deserted road, she looked confused at the coordinates and made sure they were spelled correctly.

Seeing that everything was right, she began to worry that she had fallen into a trap of some fanatic who might be hiding somewhere. Laura instinctively put her hand on the gun that she had loaded in a holster hidden in her waistband. She was on her back when she felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned around quickly drawing her gun, but her movement with the gun was blocked by Kaji who was smiling at her while holding her arm. Laura calmed down when she saw that it was Kaji in front of her.

"Shit Kaji, you could have scared me to death." Laura spoke angrily as she put the gun away and placed a hand over her racing heart.

"I'm sorry about that." Kaji spoke with his original smile.

Laura stared at him with an annoyed look.

"Shall we?" Kaji pointed to the spot where he had hidden his old car, he started walking and heard Laura's footsteps a little behind him.

"So, what was so important?" Laura asked as she followed Kaji who had not looked back.

"Easy woman, when we get to the place I'll tell you." Kaji spoke without looking away from her front.

The way was short to their hiding place, Kaji didn't want to have sent the location to her for fear of being bugged in some way. When the pair arrived at their hiding place, Laura cast a glance at the humble abode in front of them.

"This is where you've been hiding all this time?" Laura spoke as she cleaned her shoes while entering the small house.

Kaji let out a laugh and spoke. "No, I never stay long in places, here is an exception."

Laura sat on Kaji's old couch and waited for him to return from the kitchen. Kaji returned with a cup in each hand, he handed it with coffee to Laura.

"I know you don't like tea." Kaji spoke extending the cup to Laura who took it with a confused look on her face.

The two drank their cups in silence until Laura broke the silence.

"So Kaji, what did you want to tell me?" Laura spoke as she sat down better on the old couch.

Kaji nodded and spoke. "I'm afraid you won't like it."

"Test me then." Laura spoke with confidence.

"Do you remember Shinji Ikari?" Kaji spoke seriously to Laura.

Laura's expression dropped visibly, she nodded to Kaji. "Yes, he died a while ago."

Kaji smiled at her, a smile that needed no further speaking. Laura's eyes widened at Kaji.

"What?! ... Is he alive? ... How do you know that?" Laura spoke visibly shocked.

"Calm down, that's a conversation for in a moment." Kaji spoke as he raised his hands to calm Laura down. "I can say that the UN made a mistake and I can prove it, but I'll explain the most important thing first."

Laura calmed down momentarily, she knew this was going to be a long day, she nodded for Kaji to continue.

Kaji nodded back and sat down in the chair in front of Laura. "The world is in danger again Laura, and Commander Sebastian is that danger."

Laura's eyes widened as she listened to Kaji's information, they spent hours talking, Kaji presented the evidence he had, Laura listened attentively, she was still shocked by the information.

"Kaji that's too big, how could he do stuff like that without anyone noticing?" Laura spoke up as she looked at some of Evas' construction schematics.

"He is a powerful man Laura, he commands a military institution with the money of the whole world." Kaji spoke up.

Laura, seeing all the evidence in front of her, concluded that this could not possibly be false.

"That son of a bitch." Laura spoke as she read a sheet of paper, she raised her gaze to Kaji. "Kaji ... Where is Shinji, with his statement about what Sebastian did to him, we can arrest him immediately."

"He is in a safe place, but before I ask you to talk to him, I want you to assure me of one thing." Kaji spoke seriously as he faced Laura.

Laura nodded.

"I want you to organize a new trial for Shinji, this information proves that there was coercion from Sebastian on Judge Ayana, I have not been able to talk to her yet, I want Shinji to receive the support of the UN in his case, we can clearly see that there was something to get him convicted." Kaji spoke still keeping his posture would be.

Laura was wondering how she was going to do this, but with the evidence in front of her, it would be possible, she nodded. "But we'll need his statement and questioning Judge Ayana to confirm the duress. "

Kaji smiled at her, but faced her again with a serious look. "Laura ... Can I trust you?" Kaji knew that Laura was an honest and decent person, he studied her past, he saw that she never allowed atrocities and injustice to prevail.

Laura felt her body stiffen at the question, she had never seen him so serious before, Laura could sense that this case was very moving to Kaji.

"Of course Kaji." Laura replied looking into Kaji's eyes, she want to do the right thing, she saw that the UN had convicted an innocent person, she was going to make every effort to fix that mistake and do true justice.

Kaji was studying Laura as best he could, he was looking for any sign that Laura was untrustworthy, upon convincing himself that she was honest, Kaji nodded and spoke.

"Shinji is with Colonel Katsuragi, he is still recovering from his times with Sebastian, I will contact her to make an appointment with you."

Laura wanted to ask how he was doing with Misato, but decided to keep it to herself, she sighed and spoke. "I want a copy of everything."

At this moment Kaji lifted the flash drive that contained all the information he could get, he had several copies.

Laura took the device and put it away in her jacket pocket, she was thinking about how things could get out of hand like this, he pushed this information away from her mind.

"How did you get all this anyway?" Laura asked curiously.

Kaji looked at the papers around him, he smiled at Laura and spoke. "You know, here and there, with one of Sebastian's henchmen."

"Henchmen? ... The guy wants a deal? ... Where is he anyway?" Laura spoke as she began to get up to leave.

"He's tied up in my basement." Kaji spoke naturally.

"What?!" Laura spoke as she turned around in shock.

"That's right, he helped me get some of the information." Kaji spoke with a smile on his face.

"So you ... You know what, I don't want to know." Laura spoke as she stood up.

"Here." Kaji spoke as he held out a piece of paper to Laura.

Laura took the paper and looked at it in confusion.

"That's my cell phone number, call me when everything is ready." Kaji spoke confidently.

Laura nodded, the two were now out of the house and were heading for Kaji's car.

The way to Laura's vehicle was silent, they were both thinking about the moment they had passed, Laura was digesting everything, she still couldn't believe that Sebastian was using the UN for his own purposes and how everyone was manipulated by him, she couldn't get it out of her head that Shinji had been wrongly convicted.

As Laura reached Laura's vehicle, she got out and went to Kaji's window, she stopped and spoke.

"I promise I'll fix it."

Kaji nodded and spoke with his smile on his face. "I know you will."

Laura waved back, got into her car and started to drive off, Kaji stood watching Laura's vehicle disappear into the horizon.

After a few minutes of standing still, Kaji let out a smile at the thought that everything was going according to his plan.

In Laura's vehicle, she put her hand over the pocket where Kaji's flash drive was, she was thinking about the words she would speak when she met Judge Ayana, she couldn't believe that she had helped Sebastian.

Judge Ayana's Office - UN

Judge Ayana was at her desk reading depositions from other cases she had followed, she was focused on her work when her door was opened by a UN messenger, along with two officers, she felt a chill on her back.

"Ma'am, stand up, you are under arrest." The officer handed over the envelope.

"What am I being sued for?" Ayana stood up and took the envelope, she was making the greatest effort to keep herself under control.

"Conspiracy, Conspiracy for murder and corruption." The agent spoke neutrally.

Ayana could feel her eyes getting bigger in her body, she could feel that this had to do with Sebastian.

Ayana was taken to a room, in it were the case investigator and Principal Laura, when everyone was seated, Laura was the first to speak.

"Ayana how can you?" Laura spoke with restrained anger.

"Can what?" Ayana spoke trying to maintain possession.

"How can you condemn an innocent person, just to please a man? " Laura spoke with her arms crossed.

Ayana knew what was going on, they somehow found out about Shinji.

"You'd better talk now, we have evidence." The investigator spoke without lifting his gaze from the papers.

Ayana knew that she had been caught and would not be able to prove her innocence so she began to talk about everything that had happened.

Flash Back - Shinji's Trial.

Judge Ayana was in her chambers reading the trial reports, she was feeling very pressured by the whole thing, but she was a very respected Judge, she couldn't give in to pressure and had to give a fair verdict.

She was formulating the sentence when her door was opened, she looked at the person with annoyance, she doesn't want to be disturbed at this time.

"Hello Judge." Sebastian spoke as he closed the door and sat down.

"Commander Sebastian?" Ayana spoke in confusion.

"Yes, I came here today to give you a little incentive for you to give a fair verdict."

After a few minutes of conversation with Sebastian, he had explained to her why Shinji could not be exonerated, and how the world would have to have its justice.

Ayana stood her ground. "I can't condemn this boy Commander, it's clear that he didn't know that these machines had this destructive ability at Third Impact, and at the almost fourth impact as you call it, he was psychologically shaken, he was manipulated to get to this."

Sebastian snorted in frustration.

"So let me put it another way Judge Ayana, if you acquit him and give him his freedom, I guarantee you will be very sorry, think of your daughters and your idiot husband." Sebastian spoke threateningly.

"Are you threatening me?" Ayana spoke trying to stand her ground.

"Yes I am ... You know accidents happen." Sebastian spoke still staring at Ayana.

Ayana knew that Sebastian could make his threats, it was not the first time that the Judges' family was killed by his decisions, he was powerful enough to do that and leave no evidence.

"And also, think of your nation, if you do this and defy me, besides me finishing you off, I guarantee that your they will be left without any help in this crisis, I will leave them to their own devices and it will be your fault, I will let them starve or be destroyed by the next NERV attacks, let's see how much your nation can take." Sebastian concluded seriously, he had not looked away from Ayana at any time.

Ayana could feel that things were serious, she sighed and thought that Sebastian had the means to put his threat into practice, she sighed in defeat.

"Okay." She spoke sadly.

"Good." Sebastian spoke as he stood up and left the room.

Again alone in her room, Ayana was struggling with the choice she had just made, she put her hand over her face and sighed a few times. After preparing her sentence she stood up and walked out of the room towards the auditorium.

End of Flash Back.

"Do you really want me to believe it?" Laura spoke incredulously.

"Believe what you want Laura, but that's what happened." Ayana retorted Laura in the same tone.

Laura faced Ayana with a fierce look on her face, she lowered her gaze and shook her head slightly.

"What is your relationship with Commander Sebastian?" The investigator asked neutrally.

Sebastian Commander's Office - WILLE HQ

Sebastian was looking out the window of his office, he was thinking about his situation, he had not found Shinji and his investigations had led nowhere, he huffed in annoyance, turned around and went to the small bar in his living room, he prepared a shot of Scotch.

After getting his drink he sat down from his table, he spent some time rambling while drinking, he sighed several times in the process, when he finished his drink he was surprised by his door being opened revealing soldier Number One.

Sebastian looked at him with a confused look on his face, the man in front of him looked agitated, he approached with quick steps to Sebastian's front, Number One took a few breaths before speaking, Sebastian could see that he had run to his office.

After a few seconds, Sebastian asked dismissively. "What?"

"Sir! ... Sir! They have arrested Judge Ayana." Number one replied as he took a deep breath to catch his breath.

Sebastian felt his eyes widen, he quickly stood up and went around the table so he could come face to face with his soldier.

"What do you mean they arrested her!?" Sebastian spoke strongly as he looked at Number One.

"I don't know sir, I received information that UN Director Laura had you arrested ... I think the house is falling down sir, you have to run!" Number one spoke hurriedly, he had regained his breath by now.

Sebastian was now back in his chair, he had a thoughtful look on his face, he quickly put his hands over his nose to think.

"No, we don't know yet why the Judge is being arrested, we don't know the real reason yet." Sebastian spoke confidently, but he was getting worried about the whole thing, he was wondering if he had been found out.

- No, this can't be happening... How could she have been caught? - Sebastian thought in annoyance about all the events that had led up to now.

"We have to have an escape plan in case something were to happen. " Number one spoke anxiously, he was clearly agitated.

Sebastian stared at his soldier with an angry look. 'You think I don't already have a plan? Idiot."

Number one swallowed dryly at Sebastian's look.

Sebastian lowered his gaze to his desk before opening the drawer and taking out a metal key with a hangar number and an identification card, he tossed it to his henchman and spoke firmly.

"Get everything ready, inside that place has the necessary equipment, keep everything ready in case we have to escape quickly. "

Number one nodded and stood still in the room, Sebastian stared at him with a confused look on his face.

"What are you still doing here idiot?" Sebastian growled at Number one.

"Yes sir." Number one spoke as he turned and left the room.

When he was alone again in the room, Sebastian went to his office window and started to look out, he could see almost the whole city, he was feeling his hand shaking with the adrenaline, he stared at it for a few seconds, somehow he could feel that his time in command of WILLE was with the days counted, he went back to his desk and took his gun, he checked if it was loaded and put it in his waistband.

Shinji's makeshift room - Wunder.

A few days had passed since Judge Ayana's arrest, Shinji was sitting on his bed, he was thinking about the day he spent the night with Asuka, he didn't know how he should proceed with her, she had gone to visit him before, but they were quick passages, she brought him food and hardly said anything.

Shinji didn't have the courage to bring up the subject with her, knowing Asuka's explosive temperament, he decided to leave it to her to bring up the subject, so he could know she was ready to talk, so he could also buy himself some time to prepare.

Shinji heard the door open to reveal Misato, she was together with Asuka and Mari, by the look of anxiety on Misato's face, Shinji could see that it was not a social visit.

Misato entered the room, she had a small bag in her hands, inside it had more casual clothes for Shinji, he took it and looked at them anxiously, Shinji could feel it increasing, as he didn't know why he would get casual clothes if he couldn't leave the room yet?

Misato seeing Shinji's anxiety spoke as calmly as possible.

"Shinji, we are going to the UN now, Director Laura wants your statement about Sebastian's case."

Shinji mentally shuddered when he thought that he would have to remember his time with Sebastian.

Mari realizing this, spoke faster than Asuka who was already getting ready to speak, she spoke as calmly as possible so that she could calm Shinji at this moment.

"Hey puppy, we'll be there with you." Mari spoke with a reassuring smile, Asuka nodded her head, she still felt uncomfortable being around Shinji, it wasn't an discomfort for his actions, but rather why she was still uncomfortable that he slept next to her that night, Asuka wasn't ready to talk about it yet.

Shinji nodded at Mari's words, he felt Misato's hand on his shoulder, as he looked at her, Misato gave him a small nod.

Shinji felt his anxiety diminish a little, he sighed and thought that he shouldn't run anymore.

"Alright, I'm going to go change." Shinji spoke as he headed to the small makeshift bathroom to get dressed, after about 05 minutes of waiting, Shinji emerged with the clothes they had given him.

He was dressed in simple blue jeans and a white shirt, Shinji felt everyone's gaze on him, he felt himself blushing with him being the center of attention.

Mari seeing him spoke cheerfully. "Didn't I tell you it would look good? Simple and elegant."

"I still think the red shirt would look better." Asuka spoke with her arms crossed over her chest, she didn't want to speak, but Asuka thought the clothes fit Shinji very well, she looked away so as not to blush.

Misato shook her head, but was grateful for this as it helped to lighten the mood, she turned her gaze to Shinji and spoke.

"Ready?"

"Ready." Shinji spoke as confidently as possible, but he was very nervous, he could feel his hand shaking.

Misato took a deep breath and nodded.

"Let's go then." Misato spoke as she pointed to the door, by the time everyone was outside, Misato noticed that Shinji had stopped at the door, he hadn't come out yet.

"It's okay Shinji." Misato spoke to reassure him.

Shinji shook his hand a few times, he waved and left the room, this was the first time he had ever left, he was feeling very uncomfortable being out of his room, he wasn't ready to leave yet, he still had the guilt for what he had done, Shinji decided to put his head down and concentrate on the road.

Misato was leading the way, Asuka and Mari were going after Shinji.

When the group arrived at Wunder's cargo section, Koji was waiting, she had already started the vehicle and was waiting for the staff, he was on the lookout for any intruders who might see movement, he already had answers made in case any people saw them.

The group arrived on the scene and Misato was greeted by Koji, she greeted back.

"Is everything ready?" Misato spoke professionally.

"Yes ma'am, everything is in order." Koji replied.

Misato nodded, she started toward the driver's seat, Mari went to a door next to Misato's seat and opened it, Asuka and Shinji were standing there, Asuka was standing next to Shinji who was staring at the floor, he was afraid and embarrassed to look at other people.

Koji realized this and spoke up. "Boy, don't worry, everything is fine, Kaji told me everything."

Shinji, hearing Kaji's name, looked up slightly, he had not yet looked Koji in the eye, but it was enough for him to nod slightly.

"Come on Shinji." Asuka spoke as she put her hand on his shoulder leading him to the car door, once he was inside, Asuka sat down next to him. The atmosphere was a little tense, nobody knew for sure how this statement would go, how would Shinji's reaction be?

The way to the UN was short, but since everyone was anxious, this short journey seemed like an eternity, Shinji looked discreetly at the window, he was anxious to look at the city of New London, it was helping a little, he was feeling a little better to see that the world was not totally destroyed as he thought.

When they arrived at the UN, they saw that there was a small group of five people, four of them were heavily armed, Laura was waiting for the group, as they were dealing with Sebastian, she felt that all caution was too little, she was treating Shinji as a vital and high importance witness.

When the car stopped, Misato spoke to everyone inside.

"I will leave first, when I judge it to be safe I will signal." She spoke firmly, but before she left she turned to Mari and handed her a 9mm pistol, she looked at Asuka and signaled that she had a gun at the door, whereupon Asuka put her hand in, gripped it firmly and was prepared to act if necessary.

Shinji would have realized this, but he was too nervous, Misato could thank him for closing his eyes to breathe when she handed the gun to Mari and signaled to Asuka.

Misato got out of the car and tried to act as calm as possible.

"Colonel Katsuragi." Laura nodded.

"Principal Laura." Misato greeted back.

Laura sighed and looked at the car and then at Misato. "Is he inside?"

Misato nodded.

Laura nodded without taking her eyes off Misato, the atmosphere was tense in the parking lot.

"Let's go to my office, I believe it will be more comfortable for him there." Laura spoke naturally.

Misato felt a little confused, because Kaji had not told her about Laura knowing about Shinji, he had only mentioned that he had managed to get her to listen to Shinji.

Misato nodded and looked at the guards beside Laura.

Laura realizing this, spoke up. "Don't worry Colonel, I am treating Shinji as a key witness."

Misato nodded, still not taking her eyes off the guard, they looked like a statue, she raised her hand and waved to Mari, that was the signal for everyone to get out of the car.

Mari inhaled and turned back and spoke. "This is it folks."

Asuka looked at Shinji and saw that he was shaking, she took his hand and spoke. "It's okay Shinji, we will be with you."

That seemed to calm Shinji down a bit. Mari opened her door and went outside, Asuka asked Shinji to wait for her to leave first, he nodded.

When Asuka and Mari were outside, Shinji opened the door slowly, when the door was fully open, he breathed in and sighed to calm himself, he began to recite his personal mantra in his head.

- I won't run away, I mustn't run away. - Shinji thought anxiously.

"Calm down Shinji, this is the time for you to speak up, it will be hard, but you will have support from the people you love, you can do it." A voice in Shinji's head spoke to him.

Shinji nodded and slowly got out of the car, he stood in the middle between Asuka and Mari.

Laura looking at Shinji, saw that he had scars on his face, she began to remember the conversation she had with Kaji about this, she sighed and spoke.

"Let's go to my office." Laura turned to one of the guards and waved.

The guard nodded back and spoke firmly to the group at his command.

"Okay, lieutenant lead the way, standard formation."

The small squadron began to circle the group, Shinji didn't understand what was happening and he decided to concentrate on the task at hand.

The way to Laura's office was short, they had scheduled a faster route, Laura had cordoned off the place so that no one would get in the way, she had even had the security cameras turned off so they wouldn't be traced.

When the group reached the room, they went inside and the soldiers set up guard at the entrance to the office.

The group was silent until Laura sat down at her desk, Shinji was amazed at the office, he wanted to go to the window to take a look but decided to remain silent, Laura pressed a button on her desk, the windows were closed and the room was only illuminated by the lamps inside.

Laura adjusted herself in her chair and motioned for everyone to sit down. Shinji sat closer to the table, Misato sat next to her, Mari and Asuka were sitting in the chairs behind.

Laura seeing that everyone was on the scene, she spoke before beginning her statement.

"Shinji, I want to say that you are here to give your statement on the following conditions, the first one is about the allegations of torture that the victim suffered at the hands of Sebastian Brown, current WILLE commander." Laura spoke as she saw Shinji move in his chair.

"The second is about the scheduling of a new trial, we have evidence that leads us to believe that there was coercion by Sebastian on Judge Ayana, causing the defendant to have an unfair verdict and outside international guidelines and other matters classified as inferior."

Mari smiled as she saw that her suspicions were correct, something had happened at that trial.

Misato was having the same feeling as Mari, she knew something had gone wrong, she remembered the words that were read by the accuser, she felt a pang of guilt for calling Shinji a monster, Misato made an internal oath that she would fix this when everything calmed down. Asuka could feel her body start to shake with anger, she wanted to hit someone to take out the anger she was feeling.

Laura seeing that everything had been discussed previously decided to start, she took a camera and turned it on, she focused on Shinji, she could see his discomfort, but this was necessary for recording possible evidence.

"So your name is Shinji Ikari?" Laura asked.

Shinji nodded.

"I'm going to need you to answer for the record." Laura spoke calmly, she was speaking as calmly as possible so as not to startle Shinji.

Shinji nodded again and spoke. "Yes, I am Shinji Ikari."

Laura smiled at him and continued.

"You could start telling me everything, tell me everything you remember, starting with your arrival in prison." Laura spoke professionally.

Shinji nodded and spoke weakly. "Okay."

"When I arrived in prison everything was fine, I was resigned to my sentence, I was determined to serve it, the first few days were easy, nobody messed with me, the first month I spent was quiet, it all started in the library, I was going to get a book just to pass the time." Shinji stopped to take a breath. "I had picked out a cookbook, a man stopped next to me and called my name, he was dressed in the prison guard uniform.

"What was he like?" Laura asked.

Shinji thought for a while, he was trying to remember all the details. "He was tall and blond, he looked like a Russian by the way he looked, he was strong, he ... he said he didn't think it was fair what happened to me and held out his hand, I said hello to him, he seemed nice."

Laura nodded, Shinji could feel Mari, Asuka and Misato's eyes on him, he continued. "In the night, I was in my cell, I started to feel strange, I fell to the floor and everything went dark."

"So what?" Laura asked professionally.

"I woke up in one place, I was tied to a table, my head was heavy, after a while I felt more awake, I looked around to see where I was, I thought it was strange I was in a closed and dark room, I thought I shouldn't be in prison anymore." Shinji felt the anxiety beginning to build, he continued. "Then I heard a voice calling me, that's when I saw you."

"That person was that man?" Laura spoke as she placed a picture of Sebastian on the table in front of Shinji.

Shinji felt panic wanting to take over when he saw the picture, but he was determined, he nodded and spoke. "Yes, that's him."

Laura nodded and put the picture away. "If you want we can take a break."

"No, I can do that." Shinji spoke as he ran his hand over his head. "He said his name was Sebastian, he kept the smile on his face the whole time, he raised his hand and showed me a device that only had one button on it, he explained that he would give me shocks when I pressed it, that he would activate it to get the information he wanted."

"Do you know what that information was?" Laura asked.

"Yes, he asked me how I had managed to awaken an EVA." Shinji spoke as he felt his hand tighten.

Asuka closed her eyes at this point, she was picturing the scene in her head, she shook her head at Shinji's words, Mari looked the same, but was managing to hide it better than Asuka, Misato closed her eyes.

Laura raised her eyebrow at the information. "Do you know for what reason he wanted this information?"

"He wanted to be able to have the power of an Eva, make a super army, that's what he told me." Shinji spoke as he looked at the ground.

"Could you continue?" Laura asked.

"Yes." Shinji spoke as he took another deep breath. "I said I didn't know, he activated the button and I started getting shocked, it hurt like hell." Shinji spoke as he felt the emotional charge of the memories coming back, he felt tears forming in his eyes.

Laura squeezed his hand with this information, she couldn't imagine a boy like Shinji being tortured.

Shinji could not tell how long he was told what Sebastian was doing in the three months he stayed with him, after hours of conversation, Laura spoke up.

"I would like to know one thing, why didn't you serve for him, and why didn't you help him?" Laura I ask curiously.

Shinji felt his body become rigid, he was making a great effort to stand firm in this situation, he took a deep breath and answered without thinking.

"I couldn't let people down anymore, I couldn't let Misato, Asuka and everyone down anymore." Shinji replied looking at the ground.

Misato felt as if someone had put a huge stone on his back knowing that he was enduring all this just to not disappoint her was being too much for her, the memory of her calling Shinji a monster was hammering in her head, the guilt was increasing with every sentence Shinji said.

Asuka was in her own world, she never imagined that Shinji was putting up with everything because of her and Misato, she still couldn't see why, the guilt started to hit Asuka, she started to remember all the times where she had been a complete cow to Shinji, and even after everything, he was still putting up with everything with them in mind. Asuka at this point raised her hand and placed it on her forehead.

Shinji began to tell everything again, he told how he had gotten the scars, at this moment he began to feel the tears streaming down his face, Misato put his hand on his shoulder and squeezed it gently. After a few seconds for Shinji to compose himself, he finished telling.

"Then there was one day when I woke up, I heard a high-pitched noise coming from outside, after a while another one came, I don't know how long it was, but I know someone came into my cell, I couldn't see his face, but I think he sedated me ... Then I woke up and I saw Dr. Akagi's face and I think I freaked out, I thought the pain was going to start again, I struggled and I think I was sedated again ... When I woke up, I kept calm and realized I was in a room, it looked like a doctor's room." Shinji took another deep breath. "The door opened and I saw Misato, she told me that they had taken me out of there and were taking care of me ... That's all I remember."

A silence reigned in Laura's office, she didn't know how much time had passed on this deposition, but she was pleased with Shinji's courage for telling, and she was happy to have the best evidence against Sebastian, she nodded.

"Very good Shinji." Misato spoke as she squeezed his shoulder.
