A/N: This is the second prompt for Whumptober! I hope you enjoy! Prompt- cornered/caged/confirmation

Summary: Max's thoughts throughout dying and being revived.

The moment Max watched Eleven get caught in the vines she knew that her life was over. Max herself was chained up by the vines. Vecna cornered her in his little world and she was set to die.

It was weird- the feeling of it all. She was stuck in Vecna's mindscape but was also aware of her own body. She almost wishes she wasn't though; as all she could feel from her body was her bones snapping in half and her eyes bulging out of place. Max could hear Lucas scream her name with a heart-retching scream.

After a moment all she could feel was pain racing up her body from every direction. She was hoping to be able to look at Lucas one last time but no matter how hard she tried her eyes weren't working. She didn't want to acknowledge the fact that she probably looked like all Vecna's other victims- all dismantled and unhuman-like.

Instead she tried to focus on Lucas. If she couldn't see him she at least wanted to hear him. The fear of dying took over her brain and she could faintly hear herself mummering about not being ready to die. Her sweet Lucas was trying to reassure her she would be fine but she knew that was not true.

With one last breath she felt herself being pulled away from her body for what would probably be the last time.

When she opened her eyes her fears were confirmed- Vecna was leaning over her. Around Max the mindscape shook and her fears were confirmed. She wasn't quite sure how she knew but Max was positive the shaking came from the Upside-down staring to blend into Hawkins.

Now since she wasn't strong enough to fight off Vecna all of her friends were doomed to die violent deaths. Poor El would probably blame herself for what was happening, besides the fact that it wasn't her fault.

Max could only hope that Eleven fought the bad thoughts and instead would use Max's sacrifice as motivation to defeat Vecna. Preferably Eleven would arrive in Hawkins before everyone else was dead. Eleven didn't need the opportunity to blame herself for anymore deaths.

Hopefully Eleven would arrive in Hawkins with Mike and the Byers and they would team up with the rest of their friends and defeat Vecna before he could cause to much damage. If her friends were able to stop Vecna and live the rest of their lives, then maybe her sacrifice would be worth it.

All of the sudden the shaking around them stopped. Max could somehow feel her body being resurrected and saved. It was a strange feeling, being connected to her body but at the same time being so far away from it.

Max tried to swim her way through the muck back to her own body but something seemed to be forcing her in place. As much as she tried to escape she couldn't. It was almost like how the movies described quick sand, the more she struggled the harder it was to move. She kept trying to push herself out of the invisible cage she was being kept in and return to her friends but she couldn't manage.

The effort of escaping started to drain her already depleted body. Somehow her dying must of caused her to get stuck in Vecna's mindscape or something along those lines. She was sure that Dustin would have a full explanation for what was happening to her.

The joy from her body being revived almost completely left her. What good was her body if she couldn't be in it? Her body was practically still a corpse at this point. No matter how painful her life had been up to this point, she didn't want to leave it. It was something that was harder to appreciate up until it was forcefully taken from her. For beside the pain and hardships that filled her memories there was also moments of joy and fun that overshadowed the bad. Even if those moments were small and far less then the bad, they still managed to fill a lot more space then the bad.

Still besides the frustration that hit her about not being able to return to live life with her friends- a sliver of the hope survived. She wasn't sure how long it would take her friends to realize she was still Vecna's prisoner and not just peacefully resting in her mind but she had faith that they would figure it out eventually. Hopefully sooner then later but until then she would just have to wait.

Max had full faith in her friends and their ability to make things right. Hopefully Eleven and the others would reunite soon and they would figure things out within a few days or weeks. Until then she would be patiently waiting for them to free her so she can use her revived body to make new joy filled memories- no matter how beat up her body may be.
