The Never Ending Rain
Chapter Seven
Silence echoed throughout the cave as Elise watch her brother and a massive spider from her crystal ball.
I can not release your mother.
Those words continue to echo in her mind as she closed her eyes and bit her lip.
The Kraken, that's the name the world gave her mother. An unrelenting squid that destroys anything or anyone in its way. But she wasn't always like that. With them, she never turned into a squid. In fact, they would always take trips down to the pier and gaze out at the ocean. She would smile back, then even laugh at our corny jokes. Everything was so peaceful, how she wished she was a child again, hugging her mother close as she held Eric in her arms. With so many wonderful memories, how could they all be gone? They were doing this to see her again. Maybe if she saw them, mom would turn back to normal. She had to hope, right?
"Mom only became unstable when you locked her away, Elise exclaimed.
Poseidon shook his head. "You know very well Kathleen turned long before I ever stepped in."
Tears trickled down Elisa's cheeks as the last memory of her mom came to mind.
They were to enjoy the beach at night like they always did. Eric ran ahead to pick out seashells while a scream came right after. By the time they got there, Eric was unconscious and bloody. Scooping him up in her arms, Kathleen snuggled him close before turning around and placing him in Elise's arms. Reaching out, she gently caressed Elise's face, wiping away her tears.
"You need to be strong and take care of your brother,' Kathleen said. "Now run."
Elise nodded, sniffing, as she ran away. Kathleen turned around facing the men who were laughing at first but when Elise hide behind a tree not too far away all she could hear were screams. People were running, grabbing their children while other trampled over each other to get away.
When the close was clear Elise emerged with Eric now resting in her spotted her mom with her back towards them heading to the ocean. Elise walked towards her only for Kathleen to shake her head as she reached the water's edge.
"I'm sorry, but you can't come with me. Please take care of your brother... goodbye," Kathleen said before disappearing into the ocean.
Elise's eyes wandered over to the trail of red leading to the ocean. She followed and found the men that hurt her. Eric's mom had killed them. She had given in to her blood rage, sacrificing her sanity for us. Looking back out at the ocean, Elise caught the glimpse of a squid disappearing from view.
After a few months, Poseidon appeared before them with a massive bubble holding their mother right behind him.
The giant squid continue smacking up against the bubble, screaming out in anguish, leaving Poseidon to shake his head. He said nothing that day and walked away, taking their mother with him. Leaving Elise to weep in silence.
A shallow breath escaped Elise as blinked away her tears as her mind returned to the present.
"You could have let us see her... or at least took us with you," Elise pushed out her lips
Sighing loudly, Poseidon looked away. "There are many things I wish I did that day."
"Enough, no more talking, but thank you for calling mother by her name and not the world gave her."
Nodding, Poseidon grew quiet as he watched what was going on in the town.
Meanwhile, back in town, Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Yolanda, Mave and Nautica stared at the massive spider. Nodding, they all charged toward the spider. It merely roared as it knocked them back with his leg.
Nautica and Mave recovered first, their eyes flickered is their weapon glowed, glancing to each other. They jumped in the air aiming for its head but it spewed out of sticky substance. Within second it encased them in a web like cocoons. Slamming them on the pavement, the spider was about to swing them back up into the air. But Annabeth jumped up and dashing over to the spider as she jump in air, slicing the web strings. When she landed, the cocoons rolled across the pavement, bumping into a few tires among some debris.
By this time, everyone else was back on their feet. Yolanda and Percy ran over to free Mave and Nautica while Annabeth and Grover kept the spider busy.
Upon reaching Mave and Nautica, Percy and Yolanda wasted no time in cutting them loose. With Percy cutting away on one cocoon and Yolanda ripping the webbing off the other, when a thought ran through her mind where was Eric.
Yolanda received her answer when she noticed something was moving behind them. Grabbing her staff, Yolanda jumped up, hitting Eric in the gut just as he was about to stab Percy in the back. Pushing him away, Yolanda glanced back at Percy, who continued slashing away at the cocoons.
Percy stopped when a hand punched through the webbing, glowing it ripped away everything faster. Within moments, Mave stood up, nodding to Percy.
"Thanks, I got Nautica," Mave said.
Nodding, Percy moved to help Yolanda while Mave pulled the webbing off webbing Nautica.
Yolanda's eyes narrowed as she met Eric blow for blow. She deflected his sword with her staff, but there was a problem: his attacks were getting heavier and faster. Before she defended herself, he kicked her, knocking her back as he ran toward her with his sword, but she sidestepped him and smacked his legs with her staff, which caused him to stumble into Percy's fist, knocking him right on his butt.
Yolanda stood by Percy, ready to help him, but he shook his head.
"Go help Annabeth and Grover. I will deal with him."
Yolanda ran off to help the others, with Nautica and Mave right behind her.
Snarling, Eric stood up with his sword pointed at Percy. Looking back at him, Percy narrowed his eyes as his blade glistened. Within moments, they charged at each other. Meeting blow after blow, they kicked each other back, but Percy didn't recover fast enough as Eric charged in, kicking him in the gut, followed by a blow to the head, knocking Percy on his back.
Eric scoffed as he circled around the demi god.
"Your no match for me,"
"We'll see," Percy said, wincing in pain.
Holding his sword up high, Eric aimed at Percy's heart. Just as he was about to bring it down, Percy jumped up, punch Eric in the stomach, and swept his feet from under him, laying Eric on his back. Looking down at him, Percy ignored his stern eyes and noticed a sense of sadness within them.
"You show dismay in fighting me how strange," Eric said.
"Because I know there has to be a better way to solve this," Percy said.
"Your father imprisoned my mother,"
"For good reason, I bet."
"She is the Kraken."
Percy sighed. He had heard about this giant squid in history class and the damage it caused. If it wasn't for Poseidon, who knows what she would have done to the world? But they were never told she had children or, in fact, was a woman just a monster to be feared and slain. How he wished history was told in the right way.
"I am sorry, but I cannot condone this. To release your mother would bring chaos upon the world," Percy said.
Eric rose to his feet. "Then I am sorry too,"
Charging toward Percy once more, Percy's eyes flickered as he stood ready. Kicking him back, Percy twirled around, slicing Eric across the stomach.
Stopping in place, Eric stood there as searing pain ran across his body. Reaching down to his stomach, he felt a sticky liquid. His eyes widen when he noticed his own blood as he dropped to the ground.
"Sis, I'm sorry," He whispered.
Sighing, Percy closed his eyes for a few moments before running off to help everyone else.
"I'm sorry, Eric, but you gave me no choice."
