The Many Kids of Danny Fenton
Chapter 10: Matlin Part II
As Matlin left to go shopping with her friends, Clockwork decided to take a little break while 61394 left to go get some more snacks and Flower Princess11 was, once again, commenting what she saw with the benevolent master of time.
"So, Danny and Musa had another kid, a boy named Jimmy and have another on the way and Matlin is obviously in love with someone, even if she won't admit it..."Flower Princess11 summarized.
"Looks like it..."Clockwork said with a chuckle.
"And just like Sabrina, we won't even know the new baby's gender…" She said, sighing with disappointment. "Oh well… what do you think-" She turned to see 61394 wasn't where he was before.
"Huh?..."
"Over there..." Clockwork pointed away.
"Huh?..."FP11 went.
61394 came back, with a large bowl of popcorn and a bunch of other snacks. FP11 didn't know where he got it from and honestly, didn't want to ask.
"What'd I miss?..."61394 asked as he arrived.
"Nothing, we paused it when you left for snacks..." Clockwork said
"Snacks?! That's basically a whole meal there!..." FP11 pointed out to the huge stack of food in her friend's arms.
"I got hungry…" Number Boy said with a shrug.
"Did you get any more popcorn?..." Clockwork asked mirthfully.
Reaching into the pocket dimension, 61934 brought a bag of popcorn, which the master of time gladly took.
"Thank you..."He said as he took a bite, while FP11 looked at Number Boy strangely.
"Do I even wanna know how you eat all that or where you got it?..." FP11 asked before shaking her head while 61394, who sipped his comically large soda, shrugged.
"I always come prepared…" He said..."In my travels through the timelines, I met someone who can make pocket dimensions and I made one to keep my snacks.."He said before pulling out what looked like a grilled cheese sandwich and took a bite.
"If you're not careful, you should be hopeful you just gain weight…" FP11 said.
"Like our old pal DP said in the prime timeline, this isn't a visual medium and these aren't our real bodies, remember..."61394 said, holding his giant soda.
"Well, yeah but still..."FP11 said as 61394 took another sip of his drink.
Clockwork considered asking if that was excessive but chose not to. Number Boy always had a method to his madness and truly, there was some form of chaos always left in his wake
"Let us return to why we're here, shall we?..." Clockwork suggested.
FP11 nodded and was curious.
"So, who is it that Matlin likes?..."FP11 asked, wanting to know.
61394 also looked curious.
"Has anyone else noticed that in every timeline Danny's oldest kid always has a crush on someone?..." He asked, seeing the pattern.
Ally liked Tommy Grayson, Tabbi liked Harrison Kinkle and Peter liked Rachel because he was too clueless to see Jean as more than a friend yet.
It seems to be a recurring element, regardless of the mother.
FP11 also noticed and Clockwork shrugged.
"Perhaps but remember, we are seeing them during their TEENAGE years..."Clockwork said.
"Yeah… teenagers are hormone-driven… I mean, we run a dating service after all…" 61394 said with a laugh..."Still can't believe you hired me, boss..."
FP11 shrugged.
"Hey, you might be a little crazy but you do good work...."FP11 said.
"Really? You think so, Clockwork?.." 61394 asked.
"Like she said, you're not so bad, when you remember to work..." Clockwork said
"I've been working on that..." 61394 said
FP11 decided to change the conversation back to Matlin and her life.
"So, who is Matlin's crush?.."Flower Princess11 asked.
Clockwork chuckled.
"Oh, you all will see soon enough..."Clockwork said as he gestured to the time window.
They got the message and nodded.
They soon saw Clockwork fast forward the shopping spree scenes and soon arrived to a moment where the girls were taking a break.
The time master smirked.
"This will be interesting..."He said as he raised his time staff and with a simple "Time In", continued with the show.
At a coffee shop
After a two hours shop-a-thon, the girls decided to take a break. Matlin and her friends were sitting outside, drinking latte's in the sun.
This was just what she needed. Shopping with her friends was a good way to get her mind off that stupid writers block. Plus, she found a wicked pair of boots at a great price.
"This is nice..."Tori said after taking a sip.
"Yeah, these are the best..."Layla said after taking another sip.
Meanwhile, Matlin just leaned on the wall, watching.
Normally, she'd be all for this, but the block is getting on her nerves. She has been working on her new song for weeks and she is still having trouble finding the right words.
It is so frustrating!
Matlin, noticing that her cup was empty and that she was still in the mood for more, decided to get some more.
"I'm gonna go get another latte..."Matlin said as she walked back into the coffee shop.
"Okay but hurry back..." Sophia said... "We've got a lot more stores to cover.."
Matlin rolled her eyes.
"Yes, your majesty..." She said jokingly, as she knew Sophia hated being called that by her friends.
"Ugh, don't call me that. It makes me sound so old, like I'm my parents..." Sophia complained.
Sure, she is a princess, like half of her friends here but she already has to deal with so much formality and she doesn't want to hear it from her friends.
Still, Matlin couldn't help but joke around a little more.
"Giving me orders? You're starting to sound like your mom at least..." Matlin joked.
"Hey!..."Sophia said and her friends all laughed.
"Yes, your highness?..."Matlin said as she even did a mock courtesy.
The girls all laughed even louder now and decided to join in on the fun.
"Does the young Matlin Fenton offend her grace?..."Rosa said, giggling.
"Perhaps she should do best to maintain proper decorum..."Tori said in between chuckles.
They and Matlin are the only ones in this group without a royal title, but they didn't care. Their friends weren't snobs or anything. Still, it was fun to mess with Sophia, given how engrossed her mother is with her title.
Layla and Daphne, the only other princesses in the group, couldn't help but laugh too, finding it funny.
"Perhaps you should get on your knees, lest she declares war..."Daphne said and Layla was too busy laughing to say anything.
"Don't encourage her!..." Sophia said while her friends giggled.
She tried to keep the frown on her face but soon burst into laughter too.
"I shall return, fair princess…" Matlin said, still giggling as she walked back inside and to get her second drink.
Meanwhile
With Danny and Musa
While Matlin was with her friends and Jimmy was with his grandfather, Danny and Musa had arrived to the hospital in Magix City for her appointment.
The musical fairy was currently laying on a hospital bed as doctor was examining her, rubbing gel on her belly as they examined her and the baby.
Once done, the doctor soon left the room to go get the results. Danny was pacing as he awaited the news and Musa, who was waiting patiently, grabbed a hold of him as she squeezed his hand. Within seconds the adult halfa was seated next to her, holding her hand as they awaited the results from the doctor.
"You okay, Musa?..." Danny asked.
"Yes… and no..." Musa said..."I'm happy and hopeful for another baby… but I'm not so crazy for when they get older…"She said, in a joking sort of manner.
"That so? Why?..." Danny asked, knowing she is kidding.
"Nothing major but I am a little worried we might be too old now..." Musa joked.
Danny and her laughed.
"I think we'll do fine…" The husband said.
Musa giggled and sighed.
"Let's just hope he or she will take better to what we teach and not use their powers in the house…"The mother said, recalling many incidents about her children after they unlocked their powers.
Danny chuckled, knowing what she means.
He and Musa loved their kids nothing and no one could change that but kids were hard enough even WITHOUT Ghost/Fairy powers at their disposal. Still, it doesn't change the fact that they have the best kids in the world, even if at times, they tend to get into mischief, no thanks to their powers.
"Remember when Matlin six and she tried to make an audience out of ice that one time?..."Danny said.
Musa groaned before chuckling, finding it funny in hindsight.
"It took hours to dry up the carpets…"She said in an amused tone..."Remember when Jimmy had tried to clean his room by turning the mess intangible..."She recalled.
"How can I forget? His dirty laundry rained down on me..."Danny said.
They both laughed.
"Remember when Jimmy had phased his head through the walls during Matlin's slumber party?..."Musa said.
"Yeah, I had to apologize to their moms..."Danny said.
They laughed again.
Yes, both of them were full of stories of their kids crazy hijinks but they were full of loving memories too and the not-so-young couple wouldn't have traded any of it for the universe.
Danny put a hand on his wife's growing belly, looking into her beautiful eyes and thinking the exact same thing he thought the day she agreed to go out with him all those years ago.
"I'm the luckiest guy in the world..."
Danny and Musa leaned in close together about to kiss but that's when a knock happened
"Every time..." Danny whispered, making Musa giggle as the doctor walked in.
"Mr. and Mrs. Fenton?..." The doctor asked, coming in.
Danny immediately shot up, but quickly sat back down.
"So, what's the result, Doc?..." Musa asked and the doctor smiled.
"Well, Mrs. Fenton, I am happy to report that you're child is healthy and we have found no complications..."The doctor said, happily.
"That's good..."Musa said, relieved.
"You seem to be three months along, so I predict he or she will be ready to come into the world in late February, early March at the latest. .."The doctor said.
Musa smiled upon hearing that, already excited to meet their latest bundle of joy.
"Thanks, Doc…"The musical fairy said.
"Thank you, Doctor..." Danny said.
"You're welcome..."The doctor said to the happy parents.
"Is it okay if we talk?..." Musa asked, gesturing between her and her husband.
The doctor nodded with a smile on his face.
"Of course, I'll give the two of you some privacy. I have to go send a message anyway..."He said.
Once he was gone, Musa sighed.
"Just a few months from now…" She said before rubbing her belly... "Please be a good little boy or girl…"
"What if it's twins?.." Danny asked.
"I think I'd rather face the Trix… or Ember…" Musa said, referring to her worst enemies and her rival.
Danny laughed. Ember and Musa had a interesting rivalry since the fiery rock ghost interrupted their blind date all those years ago and it wasn't just for music reasons either.
"Don't get me wrong, I love our babies but two more kids might make me lose some of my hair…"Musa said, though Danny knew she didn't really mean that.
"Yeah… don't want that…" Danny said with a small laugh.
"I guess it's a good thing twins don't run in the family...at least I think they don't..." Danny joked
Musa 'glared' at him and simply said "Not funny..."
"It's kind of funny. Plus, if Matlin ever does something she shouldn't, we can punish her by babysitting the two of them..." Danny said in a joking way.
"Not Jimmy?..." Musa asked
"I love him but I don't trust him with a goldfish, let alone a baby. At least not until he is older..." Danny said
"Yeah..."Musa said, knowing that it is true.
The two laughed again. Once they calmed down, they stared at each other.
"I love you..."Musa said
"I love you too..."Danny said as he smiled at her.
"I still feel really lucky to be here with you…"Musa said as she held his hand.
"Luck had nothing to do with it..." Danny said... "It's all love… nothing stopped me from loving you…"
"Not even Ember?" Musa asked playfully.
"Too evil for my tastes…" Danny said.
"Or your work friends like Supergirl or Starfire?..."Musa said in a teasing way.
"They weren't as adorable as you..."He said.
Musa smiled.
Sure, there was a time that she felt jealous, back when they were teenagers but she got over it once she realized that Danny only had eyes for her and that his friends respected his choice. Even Sam eventually came around, despite the jealousy issues she had at first, especially after they learned of her powers. Thankfully, she managed to let go and move on with her life. She married a nice guy named Christopher and had a couple of kids of her own.
"I dunno. A lot of the girls who wanted you were pretty cute..."Musa teased.
"Not as cute as you, Plus, none of them have your smile…" Danny said.
"Good answer…" She said with a smirk.
Musa and Danny laughed before sharing another kiss, feeling happy. The kiss would have become somewhat more passionate had the doctor not returned and saw them.
"Oh, I'm so sorry..."The doctor said in a hurry, stepping out of the room.
The husband and wife were silent, before bursting into laughter.
"Twice in under an hour. I feel bad for that doctor..." Danny laughed.
"Well, maybe if you could keep your hands to yourself when we're in public..." Musa joked the two continued to laugh.
"So... you DON'T want me to show how much I love you?..." Danny asked, pretending to be offended.
"Hmm... okay, fair enough. But maybe something less intimate? At least until we are alone..." She suggested.
Danny smiled sheepishly as he opt to touching foreheads with his wife.
"I love you..." Danny said again.
"I love you too..." Musa said back before shaking another kiss with her beloved husband.
Life was beautiful, wasn't it?
Back with Matlin
Matlin just got her second latte.
"Thank you..."Matlin said as she made her purchase.
As she began to walk out with her refill, she saw something...or rather SOMEONE who almost made her drop her cup when they walked into the establishment.
"Oh man, it's him..."Matlin thought as her heart sped up.
Matlin blushed when she saw a certain someone walk by.
Someone very, very CUTE.
It was a very tall guy with wavy red hair, dreamy blue eyes, cute dimples and a charming smile on his face, showing off a set of perfect teeth.
It is Prince Drake, the heir to the King Sky and Queen Bloom and Daphne's older brother, he is the first in line for the throne of their kingdom, top specialist of his class at Red Fountain, as well as the hottest guy in Magix. He is also been one of Matlin's friends since infancy and her first and only crush since she was 12 years old and realized how cute he can be.
Sure, it was a little awkward because he was Daphne's older brother(by one year) but there was only one guy for Matlin and said guy is currently ordering a double cafe latte right now, his favorite.
"Oh Drake..."Matlin thought lovingly, watching her crush.
He then turned to notice her, making Matlin's heart skip and she resisted the urge to squeal when he came to talk to her.
"Hey Matlin..."Drake said, showing off his dreamy smile.
Matlin blushed deeper as he spoke to her and tried to find her voice.
"Hi Drake..."Matlin said shyly... "How are things going?..."She asked.
"Pretty good..." Drake said with that smile that made Matlin weak at the knees.
'Oh, be still my beating heart..."
"So, you're going to play a gig or something?..."He asked as he pointed to her guitar.
"A gig?..."" Matlin asked before shaking her head..."Oh, no. I'm just working on a new song..."Matlin said.
"That's cool..." Drake said..."So, how long have you been working on it?..."He asked.
"About 2 weeks..."She said and Drake whistled.
"Must be some song..." Drake said
"Something like that..." Matlin shrugged, trying to downplay it.
There is no way she is going to tell him what her new song is about or WHO it is about.
Not yet, anyway. Not until it was perfect.
"A girls gotta have hobbies..."She and Drake playfully shrugged.
"I guess..."He said with a laugh.
Matlin laughed too. She always laughed around Drake
"I mean... you got your hobbies, right..."Matlin said and Drake nodded.
"Sure, I like collecting rare books but I still work to hone my skills. How else am I going to win the first match of at Red Fountain this year.."Drake said.
"Well, that is true but I am sure you'll do great. You were top in the class last year..."Matlin said.
She and her friends had attended a lot of competitions at Red Fountain and Matlin always tried to see each one of them. Drake was amazing in all of them and he looked so hot in his specialist armor.
Thankfully, he didn't see her when she took the time to see him from head to toe.
"Besides, all work and no play makes Matlin a dull girl..." Matlin quipped and Drake laughed.
"Yeah, I guess that's true..." Drake said
Matlin grinned at him again, and silently checking him out.
"His red hair looks really good in the Magix sun..."She thought, admiring him
Her grin faltered a bit when he rose his face and looked her in the eye again.
"Don't overwork yourself... you need sleep, after all..."
"You're the third person to tell me that today, after my mom and your sister..." She said... "I'll try not to lose sleep, but this song is tough..."
"I'm sure your song will be great, you're last show was awesome..." He praised with a smile and Matlin blushed deeper at that.
"Thanks, Drake..."She said, feeling her heart all a flutter.
He really is something else, isn't he?
"Hey Drake, come on..."Some of his friends called.
It was his friend Rock, the son of her mom's ex boyfriend, Riven and one of her old enemies, Darcy, as well as a member of Drake's team.
Matlin had met him and he was nice-ish, though was kind of a grump like his old man, who also worked as an instructor at Red Fountain and his mother is...well, she was less evil then when she was younger, at least that is what her parents told her anyway.
As in, she at the very least, doesn't try to destroy her mom and her friends at first chance anymore.
"I'm coming..." Drake said smiling at Matlin and showing off his perfect white teeth once again.
"Well, see ya..."He said.
"Yeah, see ya..."Matlin said as he walked away.
Once he was gone, Matlin let out a lovesick sigh.
"Drake..." She thought lovingly..."Once of these days, I will tell you how I feel..."She thought, feeling her heart beating faster.
"Matlin..."Her friends called, snapping her out of it.
"I'm coming..." She said as she went outside with her latte.
The dark haired girl walked over to her friends and sat down, trying to be inconspicuous.
"Hey, what I miss?..."She asked.
"Nothing much..."Sophia said in a bored tone and Tori nodded.
"So, what did my brother want?..."Daphne asked cluelessly.
"Oh, nothing. Just talking..."Matlin said, blushing a bit.
Her friends noticed and giggled.
"Oh talking, huh?..." Sophia said, knowingly.
"Yes, talking..." Matlin said, blushing.
The group of girls, besides Daphne, giggled knowingly
"What?..."Daphne asked
"It's nothing, Daph..."Layla promised, still giggling.
They all knew about Matlin's not-so secret crush on Drake, since it was pretty obvious, though Daphne still didn't put the clues together since Matlin didn't want to complicate their friendship but she can't stop how she feels about Drake. It's not like she wanted to hurt Daphne but she couldn't help how she felt.
As they say on Earth, the heart wants what the heart wants.
She also wasn't sure if she'd accept a friend and her brother being together, so that is why she didn't speak her crush with anyone.
That and she wondered if Daphne would rib her too at the best or end their friendship at the worse, so she kept quiet and the girls at least had the tact not to mention it without her consent.
Either way, it was fine as it meant one less person poking Matlin about her crush.
So, she was happy for now and hopefully she doesn't have to deal with some kind of shovel talk from Daph when and IF she and Drake begin dating one day.
When that day came, if ever, is anyone's guess. However, Matlin was fine how things are now. This just meant she had more time to prepare herself to speak to him.
The girls soon went back to chatting and enjoying their latte's, though Matlin kept glancing at Drake, who was hanging out with his friends.
She let out a sigh.
Why did love have to be so hard sometimes?
"Were things this tough for Mom and Dad?..." She muttered.
"What was that?..." Daphne asked, having heard her.
"Oh... uh... nothing..." She lied.
Daphne seemed to believe it.
"I really need to figure out that song..."Matlin thought as she kept hoping that one day, Drake would see her as more than just his sister's best friend.
For now, she figured time away from songwriting would let the idea come to her.
