Chapter 5
Callie's P.O.V:
"Looks like your team got down and dirty today," a male's voice says from behind me. I turn around and find Mark running up to me.
"Hey Mark," I greet my friend, "what are you up to today?"
"Oh, nothing. Had my unit doing weapon drills today. Enjoy watching that new blondie get dirty?" he says with a smirk.
"What? What are you talking about?" I question.
"Oh, come on, Cal. Addison told me all about it. She said that you totally have it out for that girl. She said that you look like you want to just rip her clothes off and take her…." I pull us to a stop and place my hand over his mouth to keep him from saying anymore.
"Shut up! Right now, Mark. Not another word about Robbins and I mean it. I don't need that getting around. It's bad enough that I think about her, and dream about her, but if Webber caught wind of this, I'd lose my rank and I don't want that. I worked to damn hard to get where I'm at now. Now, not another word. Am I clear?"
"Crystal!" he mumbled into my hand.
"Good. Now, do I find her attractive, yes. But there is no way it would be able to happen. Not ever," I pull my hand from his mouth and continue walking.
"Look, if you're into her, you can always do what Addison and I do. Go off somewhere alone,"
"Enough Mark," I say to him, rolling my eyes.
"Come on, Torres, you can't be celibate the rest of your life. Sex is a part of life. And judging by how uptight you are, you need it,"
"Go away, Mark, now,"
"Just listen to me…"
"No, you listen to me," I say, cutting him off, "Arizona Robbins is a hundred percent off limits. I'm a Lieutenant, she's a cadet. It's not going fucking happen, now drop it. I'm not you and Addison. I can't just break the fucking rules anytime I feel like it. If I get caught fraternizing and get thrown out of here, where am I supposed to go? Huh? Answer that question for me. I'm 20 years old, Mark, and ever since I came out last year, my parents disowned me, hence the reason I'm here. I chose this life for myself otherwise I would have been homeless and broke. Unlike you, I actually use my head. Besides, she looks way too young for me," I say, whispering the last sentence so no one else could hear.
"All I'm saying is Torro, is that…"
"This conversation is over, Mark. Now go back to your unit so I can go back to my room," I walk away, leaving Mark standing alone. Yes, I may have been a little harsh with him, but he doesn't get it. He never will.
Entering my room, Addison was laying on the top bunk, with a book in her hand. I drag my tired body further into the room and slumped down on my bed, covering my face with my arm, letting out a loud groan.
"Something wrong?" the redhead asks, turning her chair around to face me.
"Mark!" I grumble out, "he thinks its so easy to sneak around with someone, knowing it's off limits to anyone in this fucking place,"
"Okay, care to elaborate?" I sit up on my bed and turn myself to face her.
"He told me that you told him about my new Cadet, Arizona Robbins,"
"Oh…" she says, making a face, "about that…I... umm…"
"Yeah, thanks for that by the way. I get that he's your boyfriend and all, Addie, But I told you something in confidence and he was out there just a little while ago, giving me a pep talk on how I should just 'go for it'," I snap, using air quotes, "then he had the balls to tell me that If ever pursued Arizona, that she and I could easily sneak off like you guys do and fuck her brains out,"
"Callie..."
"Let me finish," I say, putting my hand up to stop her, "I'm going to tell you exactly what I told him. This whole thing, between Robbins and I, will never happen. It can't. Unlike the both of you, I don't have parents and I don't have a home. If something were to happen between us, and we got caught by Webber, I would be my luck that I'd get kicked out of here. I'm not going to lie, I want her, Ads. I really do and she's only been here for almost a week, but I can't. I can't risk it. I won't,"
"Are you done?" Addison asks with a smirk, "All we are saying is, if you want something, you need to go for it…"
"I can't, Ads, don't you see," I grumble.
"Yes, you can, Callie. I understand you're by the book. You're a rule follower. You care how people look at you, but look at you, ever since your parents disowned you, you managed to keep yourself closed off. You're afraid to open up. Not everyone leaves, Callie. You're young, you need to live a little bit. Stop making it all about this place, you've been doing that for almost two years now, do something for yourself for once,"
"Ads, why do you think I'm here? I came here for me. Not my parent, for myself. Ever since I arrived here, my life is all about this place. I mean, hell I made Lieutenant in the year I have been here and by what Webber had told me, no one has ever done that. But my rank only plays a small part in why I can't pursue her,"
"What do you mean? What's the other reason you're not telling me?"
"I think she maybe a little young for me,"
"What? That's impossible," Addison says, sounding surprised, "she maybe short, but she has the attitude of someone who's older than eighteen," I just shrugged at her, "Well there is one way to find out,"
"What?" I ask nervously. The smirk on her face tells me that this can't be good. Ideas coming from Addison Montgomery are never good.
"Come on," Addison whispers as we enter Colonel Richard Webbers office. I take on more look out the door to make sure no one was nearby before I followed my best friend into the office where they keep everyone's file, "Callie, are you coming or not?" her voice raised a little louder.
"Okay, Okay, I'm coming, geez," we made our way over to the filing cabinet. Addison gives a quick tug on the filing cabinet, then lets out a little groan.
"Shit, it's locked," she whispers.
"Key is probably behind the cabinet," I tell her. Addison reaches behind the filing cabinet and blindly searches for the keys.
"I got'em," she says with a smile on her face. She holds the key up in front of my flashlight to find which key it is. My whole body begins to shake with fear, knowing that someone could catch us any minute, "hold the light still," She flips through and tries each key before stumbling on the right one, "okay, I found it," she unlocks the cabinet and begins searching through to find the one file were looking for.
"I can't believe I let you talk me into this," I grumble. She just laughs and continues to search the files.
"What can I say? I'm a risk taker," she laughs, "here it is, Arizona Robbins,"
"What's it say?" I ask her, as she looks through the file.
"Nothing much. She...um...well…"
"Addison! What does it say?"
"She's seventeen," Addison says.
"See, I told you," I snap, "I can't have a relationship with someone under eighteen. It's against the law,"
"Only for a month, Callie. It says that her birthday is March 13," I just roll my eyes as Addison read more of the blonde's file. A few minutes later, we were both startled by the sound of voices and the rattling of the door handle.
"Fuck, put it back, let's go," I say to best friend, but she doesn't budge. She just kept reading. I tugged on her arm to get her to move, "Addison, come on. We're going to get caught,"
"Hold on," she snaps, then continues to read. Another rattling of the door handle causes me to snatch the file out of her hand and place back in the cabinet the way we found it. I close the drawer and put the keys back.
"Come on, let's go," I say, grabbing her arm, pulling her towards the door. Just as we were about to exit Webber's office, the door swings open and we come face to face with Webber himself.
"Ladies!" He greets both of us, "what are you two doing in here?"
"Sleepwalking," Addison spoke up, "Yeah, Callie was sleep walking and I found her in here,"
"Is that true, Torres?" he asks, looking at me. Addison gives me an elbow to the ribs, and I just say the first thing that comes to my mind.
"Must stop Zombie Mom!" I say, staring blankly at the man in front of us. Addison looks at me and snorts, then looks back at Webber.
"You, see? Sleep walking. She does it all the time, Sir,"
"Well, get her back to bed, Addison," he says rolling his eyes.
"Yes, sir. Let's go stop Zombie Mom," Addison says with a chuckle, then pulls me out the door.
Arriving back to our room, Addison shoves me inside and shuts the door behind her. I turn around and glare at the woman standing in front of me. She just starts laughing.
"That was close,"
"You're telling me," I say, rolling my eyes. I made my way over to my bed and sat down. I cover my face with my hands and shook my head. She looks at me and finally speaks.
"Okay, so we know that she's seventeen," I drop my hands and look at my best friend.
"You really want to talk about that now? How about we talk about the fact that we almost got caught looking through personal files in Colonel Webbers office," I say through gritted teeth.
"Yeah, but we didn't. All because we had to stop zombie mom," Addison jokes.
"That's not funny," I tell her, giving her my Torres glare, "I just said the first thing that came to me,"
"Yeah, well it was funny. Besides, it got us out of there, right?"
"I hate you sometimes," I shake my head at her, "shut the light off while you're over there," I lay back on my bed and face the wall. I tried to fall asleep, but the blue-eyed bombshell began to occupy my mind. This is going to be a long night.
