I thought of writing another genderbend fanfic. This time on another Canadian-made Fresh cartoon, 6teen. Although some characters remain in their canon gender.
This is a rewrite of the first episode.
Two pretty boys enter the Galleria Mall. They are best friends Tristan Holmes and Casey Cooke. Tristan has brown hair in long thick bangs hanging on the left of his face and blue eyes, and wears a purple striped shirt, blue jeans and blue-and-maroon flip-flops; while Casey has short-cut blond hair and green eyes, wearing a buttoned pink T-shirt, blue knee-length shorts, and brown flip-flops.
"I am so behind on my spring shopping! I do this every year." Tristan told Casey.
"I know, man. Pink is back in, and I can totally pull off pink." Casey explained. "Good thing the mall's open early on Saturdays."
The two boys stop and gaze at the fountain. Tristan heaves a sigh. "Yes. The promise land."
"C'mon. We only have eight hours." Casey starts to walk into the mall, but Tristan pulls him back. "What?" Tristan points at a particular spot on the floor, which has two tape forming a literal X-marks-the-spot. "Oh, right. Thanks, man."
Casey follows Tristan down another route. A bald nebbish man, Stuart Goldstein, walks on the path Casey was about to take and suddenly gets splashed on the head.
"Oh?" Mr. Goldstein looked up to see three bad little girls with water balloons on the second floor. Then he shouted, "SECURITY!"
"Tell the rent-a-cop we said hi." said the one with blonde hair as she and her friends laugh and walk away.
Tristan and Casey are deciding where to shop first.
"So, where are you heading?" Casey asked Tristan.
"I've gotta find those new flip-flops I saw on TV. Hook up after lunch for massages?" Tristan said as he walks off.
"You betcha! See ya." Casey waved to Tristan, then sighs happily. "Ah, home."
A boy and a girl, Nicholas "Nick" Wong and Josie Garcia, walked by the Nice Cinnabuns store. As they pass the counter, Josie dips her finger into the frontmost buns, grabbing some icing and licking it off of her finger. Nick has black chin-length hair with a purple stripe, brown eyes and pale skin, he wears an off-white tank top, a black collar, baggy dark-grey pants, and white-and-purple flip-flops. Josie has long blue-black hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin, she wears a purple T-shirt with a red rim on the neck and sleeves, a bead necklace, flare jeans, and brown flip-flops.
"Okay. I know it's just a part-time summer job, but today–", Josie paused to inhale deeply, "–I've finally become a woman."
"Oh yeah. Nothing says maturity like the phrase, 'do you want to gargantusize that, sir?'" Nick teased.
"You're missing the point." Josie explained. "There's a big difference between working for minimum wage and begging your parents for allowance."
"Oh, forgive me if I can't see you taking responsibility for anything bigger than your hairspray." Nick quipped.
Josie and Nick made it to their usual hangout, the Big Squeeze lemonade stand, which is shaped like a giant lemon. Two of their other friends are already there.
"It'll be worth it. See, with the dudes, it's all about being cool. And the way I figure it, we'll be making two large each by the end of summer." Josie said.
Josie and Nick sit down next to Wendy Williams, a dark-skinned girl with frizzy brown hair and brown eyes behind black thick-rimmed glasses, she wears a long-sleeve dark maroon sweater with a white undershirt, brown capri pants, and blue sneakers with white trimming. She's sitting in their usual table, while drinking her coffee and reading a book when she heard what Josie said. "You learn everything you know from sitcoms and music videos, don't you?"
"You know it, homegirl." Josie said, as she put her feet on the table.
"Please don't call me that." Wendy said in annoyance.
"You know you're gonna have to find someone desperate enough to hire you first, right?" Nick said.
"Look at me. Do I look worried?" Josie asked, while leaning back in her chair with her hands behind her head.
"Not really. No." Nick then puts his finger on her forehead and tips her over. "Oops."
"Whoa!" Josie yelped as she fell. "Hey!"
Their other friend, Jerry Masterson, is working at the Big Squeeze, and thus is forced to wear an embarrassing-looking hat shaped like half a lemon. He has auburn hair and violet-blue eyes, he wears an azure sweatshirt and white shorts with an indigo stripe running down the sides, with dark blue socks and white sneakers with indigo soles. "Too bad none of you can work at the Penalty Box with me, but they never hire first-timers. I swear, it was so worth it to work here this year. Now they'll hire me for sure."
"I thought you got that job to pay for the damage you did to the team van." Josie said, as she got back on her chair.
"Yeah, didn't you crash it into the equipment shed?" Nick added.
"Shut up, man!" Jerry yelled. "The point is, I won't have to ever wear this stupid lemon hat again."
"Yeah." Nick sighed. "I'm really gonna miss making fun of you in it."
"Hey, it was the only job I could get!" Jerry defended. "I was under 16, remember?"
"Which is probably why you shouldn't have been driving the team bus?" Nick said.
"Ha ha." Jerry said sarcastically. "At least all of us will be working here together this summer." He then hears a chuckle. "Here comes my first customer on my last day!" He turns to the customer, who happens to be Casey. "Can I help you?"
"A liche fruit smoothie with an energy blast and no pulp, please." Casey asked, as he puts down his shopping bags.
"We only have what's on the menu." Jerry stated in annoyance.
"Oh. Then I guess I'll have a...lemonade. Do you take credit cards?" Casey asked, pulling out a card from his wallet.
"For a dollar ninety? No." Jerry said. Casey puts the card back and pulls out a Canadian $50 note instead, and hands it over to Jerry.
"So that's what a fifty looks like." Josie awed, which made Nick chuckle. Jerry serves Casey his drink.
"Hey, do you know where Nice Cinnamon Buns is?" Casey asked.
"Uh, it's like over there, dude. Make sure you ask for one with a hole in it, they're like, waaay better." Nick said, imitating Casey.
"Thanks, man!" Casey said, oblivious to Nick's mocking, and leaves with his lemonade and bags.
"Good one." Josie complimented Nick.
"Don't we know him from somewhere?" Wendy asked.
"Yeah, he goes to our school. He didn't start until grade 10, though." Jerry then sighed. "Now there's a guy who'll never have to work."
"God, I hate him already." Nick grumbled.
"Easy there, mad dog!" Josie said to Nick.
"He's so spoiled! He's like this only child, and both his parents are doctors or something." Jerry said.
"Why should he work when he's rich? I wouldn't." Josie said.
"Figures." Nick muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Speaking of not working, I can't believe you guys haven't put in your resumes yet! Stores started booking interviews last week." Jerry warned.
"I know, I know." Nick said annoyed.
"We made a pact that we'd all get jobs at the mall so we could hang out together. It's the only way I'll make it through the summer." Jerry explained.
"What's the big deal? All you've gotta do is smile, look good, and remember–the customer is always right." Josie said.
"Do you really believe that?" Wendy asked.
"No." Josie scoffed. "That's what I want them to think. The jobs would be easier if it wasn't for the customers."
Elsewhere at the mall, a very happy green-eyed blond teenage boy wearing a blue headband named Christian welcomes shoppers into a bustling store known as the Khaki Barn.
"Welcome to the Khaki Barn! Have a Khaki day!" Christian greeted.
Inside the store, Christopher and Christof are hard at work checking customers out. They too have blond hair, with Christopher having a wavy chin-length hairstyle and Christof has a man-bun tied with a blue-green rubber-band. They also dress identical, wearing the same tight red T-shirts, blue knee-length jeans and blue sneakers.
Casey is at the front of the line.
"Hey man, this sweater is dope!" Christof complimented.
"I know, right?" Casey said.
Christopher tries to scan Casey's card, but it refuses to go through. His smile shift into a frown. "Excuse me, man, it says your credit card's been declined." He said in a harsh tone.
Christof gasps. "Dude!"
"The strip's probably just worn out." Casey said, waving off Christof. "Try it again."
"Maybe you've reached your limit." Christopher said.
"Credit cards have limits?" Casey asked.
Christopher throws the card down and snatches away Casey's items, and both he and Christof give Casey a nasty glare.
A skater girl named June Lizowski skates through the mall. She has blonde hair in a pageboy haircut and blue eyes, she wears a black beanie, an off-white T-shirt over a black long-sleeved undershirt, knee-length jean shorts with a long chain, dark blue socks and blue sneakers with white trimming and black soles. She skates to the Lemon. She steps on her board and stops, catching it right in front of the stand.
"What's happening?" June greeted, making a shah sign.
"It's about time you got here! Don't you take anything seriously?" Jerry said.
"Relax, capitan! Check it out, I've got my resume done and everything. See?" June holds up a mustard-stained pair of pages.
"Eww, June. What's that goo?" Jerry asked.
"Last night's dinner. That was a good hot dog." June said.
"You guys had better get out there, or you're not going to get an interview." Jerry said.
"Relax, dad, we're on it." Wendy said with utmost confidence.
"In case you haven't noticed, there's like 10,000 stores in this mall." Josie said.
"Actually, there's 936." June stated. Her friends stare at her, bemused. "I counted one day when I was bored. Can't handle this on an empty stomach." She drops her board, gets on it, and pushes off from the Big Squeeze. "Be back pronto."
"Fine!" Jerry turns to the other three. "But don't come crying to me if you get stuck somewhere lame like the taco stand for the next year."
"Uh, things you'll see me do after I stick a rusty fork in my eye." Nick said.
"Hey, they make a mean taco." Josie defended.
"I'm just saying, the competition for the cool stores is tough. Everyone wants to work at them." Jerry said.
"Don't sweat it, stepbro." Josie said.
"Do not call me that!" Jerry said angrily. "Our parents are not even married, they're dating." Jerry's cellphone suddenly rings and he answers it. "Hello?"
"Masterson, at two-thirty!" said a deep gruff voice.
"Sounds good. I'll be there." Jerry hangs up. "My interview's been bumped to 2:30. Anyone want to practice their answers?"
"No!" Wendy, Nick, and Josie said in unison. Jerry glares at them.
Christopher is re-shelving the clothes Casey attempted to buy. Casey is now talking on his cellphone.
"But Dad, I needed that new Vespa to get around. The old one had a flat tire." Casey said. "Really? They can fix those?"
"Excuse me dude, are you gonna like, buy these clothes or what?" Christopher interrupted. "You're holding up the line here." He points to several disgruntled customers already standing behind Casey.
"Hold on a sec." Casey said to Christopher and returns to his phone call. "I do know where money comes from. The partners at your firm. Duh!" Casey said.
June, Wendy, Nick, and Josie are sitting around the table as Jerry takes off his lemon hat and closes the stand.
"Well, I'm off to my interview. Wish me luck!" Jerry said.
"Like you need it. You're going to kick some ass." Nick said.
"I know. So where's everyone gonna start?" Jerry asked.
"Travel agencies." Nick said.
"The Gigantoplex. Free movies!" Josie said.
"North Shore Surf & Skate. Definitely." June said.
"Grind Me." Wendy said.
"What?!" Jerry asked wide-eyed.
"The coffee house." Wendy clarified. "I like the clientele. They're civilized!" Her last comment is directed towards a very kissy couple, Jayna and Johnny, who are at the moment vigorously making out.
"Do you think they'll interview us today?" June asked.
"Probably. Why?" Wendy answered.
"I dunno, dudette, what if I choke?" June asked worried.
"It's a breeze. Just be polite and honest. Employers love that. Okay?" Jerry said.
"Polite and honest. Solid advice. I can handle that." June said.
"Let's do this!" Josie cheered.
Casey is still on his phone wit his dad as the employees are putting her items back.
"But dad, how am I supposed to pay off that bill?" Then he turns to the employees. "No wait, don't put those back." He then froze when his dad said something. "You want me to WHAT?! I have to get a job?!" Casey asked horrified, and his dad answered. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Casey screamed, just as Christof comes up behind him and snips his credit card in half with a pair of scissors. "My card!" Then he sighs in defeat. "Fine. I can get a job."
He sees Christian fall off of a ladder while trying to put some pants back.
"He's got one. How hard can it be?" Casey asked himself. Then he walks off.
"I'm okay." Christian groaned in pain.
Jerry is being interviewed by Coach Halder, boss of the Penalty Box, finishes scanning his resume and begins to interrogate him. "So, tell me. Why do you want to work here, Masterson?"
"Because I've always wanted to start my own line of snowboarding gear, and I think working here would teach me so much about the retail sports industry." Jerry answered.
Cut to Wendy's interview...
"I spend most of my free time here anyway; I figure I might as well get paid for it." Wendy answered the same question, taking a sip of her coffee.
Cut to Josie's interview...
"Because the Gigantoplex is a great place to check out the hunks." Josie answered.
Cut to Nick's interview...
"I need the money to go traveling." Nick answered. Then his eyes widened as the irony hits him.
Cut to Casey's interview...
"Do you guys have, like, an employee discount?" Casey asked.
Back to Josie...
"So, where do you see yourself in five years?" Josie's interviewer asked.
Back to Wendy...
"Five years?" Wendy asked surprisingly.
Back to Nick...
"Not working in a mall." Nick answered bluntly.
Josie...
"I know where I'd like to see myself tonight." Josie said flirtatiously.
Cut to June's interview...
"Rock climbing with some Maori dudes in New Zealand." June guessed unsurely.
Wendy...
"I don't even know what I'm doing this weekend!" Wendy admitted.
Back to Jerry...
"Riding for my college snowboarding team. And competing in the Olympics." Jerry answered.
"If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" Coach Halder questioned.
Nick...
Nick laughs and snorts at what he believed was a stupid question.
Back to Casey...
"Is that the uniform you have to wear?" Casey asked. "I don't think I can pull off that color."
Josie...
"I'd be a Christmas tree." Josie answered.
Wendy...
"I guess I'd be..." Wendy chuckled and shrugged. "...a maple."
Josie...
"No wait! A dandelion." Josie changed her mind.
Casey...
"I'd rethink the hat, too." Casey said.
June...
"I thought this was a skate shop." June said.
Jerry...
"I'd be an oak, because they're strong and they like to help others by providing shade from the sun." Jerry answered.
Casey...
Casey's phone suddenly rang. "Sorry. This might be important." He pulls it from his pocket and answered.
Josie...
"What was my biggest accomplishment? Making out with Jack Anderson." Josie answered dreamily.
Nick...
"Perfecting my father's signature." Nick answered.
June...
"I once ate 10 worms on a dare." June said.
Jerry...
"Being the youngest to make the varsity soccer team." Jerry answered proudly.
Casey...
"I'd have to say, my haircut." Casey said with pride in his voice, as he rubs his hair.
June...
"My worst qualities." June said. "My feet sometimes smell 'cause–"
Wendy...
"I guess I don't have much patience for authority." Wendy answered.
Nick...
"The list is long and distinguished." Nick answered.
Casey...
"When I was 7, I used to wear this really tacky sweater my grandma gave me for Christmas." Casey shuddered.
Josie...
"I don't have any! I'm a pretty amazing girl." Josie answered proudly.
Josie, Nick, Wendy, and June are sitting in their table at the Big Squeeze. All of them very despondent.
"Well that sucked." Josie stated the obvious.
Casey arrives at the table next to them with a pizza box. He sits down, opens the box and stares at his pizza pie sadly.
Author's Notes:
The 6teen gang's names came from cahenry12's genderbend Minecraft skins in deviantART.
Tristan resembles Menelas, a genderbend version of Meg from my previous fanfic Menelas, the Lover of Hercules. It's a given since Tricia on 6teen resembles Meg.
In case you American readers don't know, a Canadian dollar bill is called a note.
Josie's line "The jobs would be easier if it wasn't for the customers" paraphrases Randal from the 1994 movie Clerks.
In the canon episode, Jonsey made out with Jill Anderson. So I just changed names via Jack and Jill.
