"You can't seriously be thinking of marrying him."
Narcissa sighed loudly, pointedly ignoring the frown the other girl was sending her way. "I don't really have a choice, Marlene."
"Of course you have a choice. You're just not brave enough—"
"—don't say that," Narcissa snapped. "You know it's not like that."
The two fell into a heavy silence.
"I don't know what it's like," Marlene says quietly. "Tell me."
But Narcissa can't find the words. To tell Marlene that, yes, she is scared. No, she doesn't want to disappoint her family. Yes, Lucius Malfoy is scum. And no, she doesn't want to marry him.
Maybe she can find the words. Maybe she just doesn't want to say them.
