Rugrats in Dalmatian Street
Chapter 1 – Babies in London
The ambience of one of the runways of Gatwick airport in London was not silent as a jet plane slowed to an eventual halt after a long flight. This jet plane in particular had just flown all the way from America as it's passengers proceeded to exit the vehicle and make their way to the clearance gates.
Out of all said passengers, a group of them stood out among the rest. Eight of them being adults with six of them in pairs. One pair being a thirty-three year old man in a dark green blazer with a red dotted tie and blue jeans, his most prominent features being his unusually purple spiky hair and large nose. His name was Stuart Louis Pickles, or simply Stu Pickles and was often considered the eccentric yet absent-minded of the bunch due to his long desire to become a famous toy inventor, even having created the trademark "Pickles Toys", which he hopes to be put on the map. The woman beside him was his wife, Didila Kropotkin-Pickles, or Didi for short. She was almost never seen without her signature red calf-length dress or her round green eyeglasses and just like her husband, her hair which was light red and protruded into three wavy forks stuck out the most.
The other couple consisted of Stu Pickles' older brother, a man with a nose similar to Stu's with a light blue under shirt with a green and dark blue vest and blue jeans and lastly, a pair of green-rimmed frame glasses. The man's name was Andrew Louis Pickles, or simply Drew Pickles. The woman who completed the other couple was Drew's wife, Charlotte, with blonde hair in a ponytail and purple eyeshadow, she was practically never seen without her business suit or her cellphone which you can guarantee that she always talked to her assistant with alongside other business related events.
And the third and last couple of the group was the DeVille's. The wife of the duo, Betty was an overjoyous and kind woman but with a tendency to speak in a strong voice. She was recognised by her light purple shirt with an orange design of the female gender symbol on the front. Her passive but well-meaning husband, Howard had a slightly similar hairstyle to Didi's, only he was missing the middle spike and the hair was a similar purple to Stu's. His attire being a brown collared shirt and purple criss-cross pants.
Then there was the single father, Chas Finster, an anxious and sometimes paranoid man but otherwise a close friend to Stu and Didi. He wore a light brown shirt with green pants with overall straps and a pink bow tie. His hair being of a short row of spikes in orange and a moustache split in the middle and lastly, a pair of purple square frame glasses. Whenever he spoke, his words would often come out with a nasal voice due to him having an adenoidal whine.
And finally, there was Louis Kalhern Pickles, or simply Lou or "Pop" as Stu or Didi would often refer to him with him being Stu and Drew's father, thus being the oldest of the group. An often witty and sarcastic old man but on occasion a very caring grandfather, he is never without his blue circular framed glasses, purple under shirt, green vest with matching pants or his very light purple hair and moustache. Having served as a soldier in one of the wars and faced multiple hardships that built his character such as walking fifteen miles to school during snow, he was often judgemental of everyday things been made much more simpler or being approached differently and if he was aware of something modern that he didn't approve of, expect him to start with "In my day..." and proceed to recall what he would use to do regarding the topic he ranted about.
And then there was the children of the couples, all of which were babies with the exception of one. One year old Tommy Pickles, whom unlike his infant friends completely lacked any hair save for the few strands on top of his head, clad in a baby blue shirt and diaper. His brother, Dil also had very few hair strands and only wore a purple onesie, both of them were the offspring of Stu and Didi.
Next was two year old Chuckie Finster, Tommy's best friend ever since they were much younger, with orange spiky hair that matched his father, Chas' alongside similar looking purple glasses and last but not least, a pair of two front teeth that stuck out even when his mouth was closed. His attire was of a blue shirt with a picture of a red ringed Saturn on the front, green pants and red sneakers.
Thirdly were the DeVille's unruly twins, Phil and Lil. Both of them wore similar light green tops with a front pocket that held a napkin and a single yellow duck with pink striped under shirt. The only way to tell them apart was by looking closer at their attire, with Phil sporting blue shorts under his top with matching blue shoes and Lil having a diaper instead with pink shoes and a pink bow on her hair.
And finally, there was Angelica, the three year old daughter of Drew and Charlotte. Blonde hair like her mother styled in pig tails with her clothes consisting of a purple dress with an orange under shirt, blue leggings with green spots and shoes that matched her shirt.
Now whenever the adults were not around, the babies would often talk to each other about the world around them and on occasion go on adventures, completely oblivious to the possible dangers that some of these adventures could lead them to, especially to Tommy whom was often the leader of the babies due to him being the most fearless of the bunch with only a strong desire for exploration, despite Chuckie's protests who was the polar opposite to Tommy's personality, being the most timid of the bunch and easily scared, especially by clowns. Yet despite his common response to any of Tommy's ideas for adventures being "I don't think this is such a good idea.", he would yet go along with them anyway, whether it be due to being concerned with his friends' safety or wanting to fit in, who knows. Phil and Lil despite having some sibling love for each other were always prone to clashing with each other even over the smallest of things, and engaging in tug of war with a toy both wanted.
And when Dil was first born, Tommy initially had to suffer the same problems Phil and Lil had which was getting along as Dil was always prone to stealing Tommy's belongings and claiming them for himself and overall being a complete nuisance. Fortunately, a long and perilous journey through a forest seemed to remedy that a little as whilst Dil still had moments, him and Tommy have been completely inseparable ever since.
Unfortunately, the same can not be said with Tommy's relationship with his cousin, Angelica whom always took pleasure out of tormenting the babies whenever the adults weren't around, whether it be forcing them to do things for her or stealing their toys and she almost always got away with it considering that the babies could never tell the adults as they cannot understand their baby talk.
"Gosh, I still can't believe the toy industry wanted you to come to England to discuss their ideas, Stu! I feel like it would've been less of a hassle if you conversed with them online." Chas commented as the group were already on the way of leaving the airport. The reason for the group's arrival to London was that a toy industry had wanted to try and bring the branching toy line of a famous franchise of a destructive dinosaur known as 'Reptar' to the UK and when they caught wind of Stu having invented toys to appeal to the Reptar corporation such as the Reptar Wagon, they were quick to contact him and request that he come to their headquarters in London to speak with him in person, having provided him with the funds needed to come to England.
"Talk online? Hah. In my day, if we wanted to talk to people, we'd walk fifteen miles to their house to start a conversation with them even if it didn't last an hour!" Lou piped up, scoffing at the idea.
"Oh, trust me, Chas! When Pickles Toys becomes England-based and worldwide, this flight will be all but worth it when it puts the brand worldwide!" Stu retorted excitedly, almost day dreaming at the idea as Drew merely rolled his eyes.
"Okay and where exactly do we expect to stay for the time being? Did the company pay for a hotel for us stay in?" Drew asked in a disgruntled tone, finding the whole thing to be ludicrous.
"Funny you should ask that, "bro"! Because they just happened to provide us with an open house riiiiiight here, in Camden!" Stu quickly defended as he pulled out a map and pointed at a specific spot on the parchment. "...No wait, that Hackney. Give me a moment." Stu said upon realising that he was not pointing at Camden before trying to the look for the location on the map as Drew just facepalmed at the fact that Stu had not yet realised that he was holding the map upside down.
As the group stepped outside of the hotel, the babies gasped in awe at the sights of London.
"Wow! I can see Big Ben, you guys! Tokyo is the bestest place I ever seed in the whole wide word!" Tommy exclaimed ecstatically as he overlooked the London streets.
"Tokyo?! Don't you dumb babies know nuthin'? This is London! Where the bridge fell down and old Clean Elyssiebeth lives and soon shall be home to the prettiest princess!" Angelica rudely corrected the babies before pointing at herself full of pride as she said the last sentence.
"Boy, London must be real bad if they'll keep Angelica as a pincess." Phil muttered to Lil with a deadpan tone in his voice.
"Welp, gotta hand it to this toy company. They're sure know how to pick a snug house!" Betty complimented as she and the others overlooked a house among a row of others. The house itself wasn't too fancy looking, bordered with brown bricks and a simple roof house with three floors, but it would definitely do the job as a suitable house.
"You're telling me, I just hope it isn't too dusty though." Chas replied, tugging at his shirt collar nervously as the adults stepped inside with their luggage and their children.
It would be midday now when the group would finally settle into their house after setting up their furniture and a playpen for the babies to play in, which they were doing so via a simple game of "Pass the Ball" whilst keeping watch of Dil whom just looked around and tended to his own needs.
Meanwhile, Stu stepped out of the house's basement having seemingly finished an invention that was already in progress possibly long before they flew to England and Stu was immediately eager to test it out as he gently inserted it into his ear like an ear bud and kneeled down to the Pickles' family dog, Spike, whom had brown and grey spots.
"Okay Spike, go ahead and speak! Tell me what's on your mind!" Stu requested as Spike let out a bark, making Stu's eager expression fall as he took the device out and examined it. It resembled an earphone but lacked a wire.
"Stu, what are you doing?" Didi asked as she approached her husband.
"Well uhhh, I was trying to test out a little invention I had in mind. The Pickles Dog Translator which as you can tell from the name would translate a dog's barks and other vocalisations into your language! No more of those misunderstood desires from man's best friend and instead more of making sure your canine friend is happy since you know what it really wants! ...But I think it still needs a few kinks." Stu replied, explaining the device.
"Oh yeah, just be sure to add those "kinks" to the others you made." Drew piqued with a groan, gesturing to the table which had three duplicates of the same device. "Hey, for your information, those are just separate prototypes!" Stu argued in frustration before putting his most recent version of the translator device next to it's aforementioned prototypes.
Meanwhile, in one of the houses opposite to where the Pickles and their friends were currently residing, it was absolute chaos compared to the quiet and calm atmosphere the human families had. And this was because the house opposite of theirs wasn't home to any humans but rather home to dogs. A family of one hundred and one Dalmatians to be exact, of which almost all of them were rushing around the house playfully leaving track marks all over the place much to one of their eldest siblings' chagrin.
The older Dalmatian in question (who was recognised by one of his ears having spots formed in the constellation of Canis Major and a red collar with a silver star tag) currently had his paws full with a vacuum cleaner and a few cleaning supplies as he was trying in vain to keep the house spotless which only proved to be near impossible when you have so many siblings running around and leaving more tracks to clean up, especially considering…
"WAHOOOOOO!" A grainy yet feminine voice called out as another Dalmatian who appeared to be the same age as the one with the cleaning supplies slid down the stairway banister and leaped off at the end, doing a flip over the former.
"Dolly, you are so not helping!" The male Dalmatian said in an annoyed tone as the female smirked and playfully pressed her face against his. "What do you mean, Dylan? I'm polishing the banisters!" Dolly pointed at the stairway rail before gasping, "Oh! I missed a spot! AGAIN!" She laughed as she returned to the top of the stairs and slid down the banister once more with an outcry of "BOW WHACKA WOOOOW!" which had prompted many of her and Dylan's younger siblings to follow suit as the latter was unfortunate enough to being literally dog-piled by the army of puppies, in turn leaving more dirt for Dylan to clean up.
It had been thirty minutes but for Dylan, it had felt like an eternity to clean up most the mess his siblings had left behind as he was wiping one of the front windows when he noticed through said window that the house opposite of his and his family's home was now occupied as he saw two adult humans conversing through one of the house's front windows.
"Oh? Seems like someone actually moved in. To think that one house was going to be abandoned forever." Dylan muttered to himself before sighing as he looked around the room he was in. "I just hope they don't come and visit with how filthy this place is." Dylan complained before leaving the window to continue with his chores, unaware however that two of his younger siblings had been listening in.
"Hear that, Dizzy?" One of the two pups whom had a single black stripe on her face that ended at her nose and ears that were wider than the other pup's asked her sister as they both watched Dylan leave.
"Sure did, Dee Dee!" The other pup responded. Unlike Dee Dee, one of her ears was black with white spots and she sported a fur pattern around her eyes that resembled a bandit's mask. She and Dee Dee both smiled as they both looked at the house across the street, both with an idea.
"Se let's invite one of them over and welcome them to Dalmatian Street!" Dee Dee suggested as she and Dizzy rushed out through the door's dog flap with Dizzy replying with "Yeahyeahyeahyeahyeahyeahyeahyeah!"
Despite the front door having no lock, the two pups somehow made their way inside without any of the humans knowing as they looked around the place, a little impressed before they entered the living room.
"Who shall we invite?" Dee Dee asked as they first noticed Lou who was conversing with Didi.
"Now I remember when I was actually serving London sometime before the war! I was currently visiting to make a business name for myself in this town so that these British fellas would know about the one who could fix almost anything and it would take only fifteen minutes!"
"Nooo!" Dee Dee droned, finding Lou's story to be boring as she and Dizzy moved on before finding Chas talking with Betty.
"Now, I'm not saying I don't appreciate England having more open areas with countrysides but I'm just more worried that I won't be able to handle the amount of pollen those fields might have which me and Chuckie might be allergic to." Chas said before letting out a sneeze, which seemed to happen out of convenient emphasis.
"No way!" Dizzy said, having been put off by Chas' nasal voice and neat freak personality.
"Just you wait, Cynthia! When I become princess, I'll make sure those dumb babies will always be my loyal servins and they will have to do everything I say or they'll have to eat broccoli!" Angelica said to her doll with a cackle, unaware that she was currently being watched by Dizzy and Dee Dee, the latter of which immediately said "Definitely not!" upon noticing her nasty uptight impression.
The two girl puppies were now in the living room near the play pen as they caught sight of Dil who was just sitting on his pillow babbling innocently. The other babies were currently taking a nap after their game as Dee Dee smiled at the youngest infant.
"That one's cute!" Dee Dee grinned to Dizzy as they both approached Dil. "Hello! You must be our new neighbour! Would you like to come with us and say "Hi" to our family?" Dizzy said to Dil whom would only hear excited yips and barks from the pup.
"Doggy doggy!" Dil exclaimed with a giggle.
"I think that means "Yes"!" Dee Dee said to Dizzy as the two took hold of Dil's onesie with their teeth and started to drag the baby back to their home, Dil laughing all the while.
Hello all, JackCryo here.
This idea has been on my mind for quite a while especially after recently reading Fenris' '101 Ed Street' which I really enjoyed and I thought, what if I crossed over 101 Dalmatian Street with one of my favourite childhood cartoons? Thus, this idea was born.
If you have the time, I strongly suggest giving '101 Ed Street' a read if you want to get a good laugh like I did. See you all on the next update.
