CHAPTER TWO
Reasui walked up to Moraha, clearing her throat. "Ahem. Moroha right?"
The black haired demon stopped her pacing. "Yup. That's my name!"
Reasui glanced at the village, which seemed so silent.
"Is….there anybody else in this village? Or just you?"
Moroha seemed to deflate, her happiness gone. "Oh. The village has been abandoned for awhile now. I'm just camping out here for now. I'm a bounty hunter. Or rather, I kill demons and then demand ransom. But this village has been raided a long time ago."
Reasui gazed over all the huts, noticing that they were actually pretty run down.
"So…void of life. It kind of…makes me feel hollow."
Moroha hopped up beside her, leaning and looking into Reasui's eyes. "There's…something about you. I can't quite put my finger on it."
Reasui stepped back, uncomfortable with that statement. "Oh. Really? What do you figure?"
Moroha looked ahead. "It feels like, you're looking for something. That's why you asked if anybody else lived here right?"
Reasui twitched. "You read people really well."
Moroha placed her hands behind her head. "Haha. Well, a lot of people tell me that."
She glanced sideways at the kitsune. "Y'know. If you want, you can travel with me! A life of demon slaying sounds fun doesn't it?"
Reasui twitched an ear. "Um, well. I do happen to be looking for something. Or rather, some people. If I travel with you maybe I'll get to find them."
Moroha offered a hand. "Then let's shake on it!"
Reasui grasped her hand, and they shook. "Great! The days of roughing it out solo are gone!"
The other demon leapt into the air, laughing.
Reasui watched her as Moroha jumped around.
"You…must've been lonely then."
Fwump
Moroha landed on her back. "Ah…I wouldn't say that. It's just…two people are better than one right?"
Reasui walked up to her, standing at her head and looking down at her. "That is true. However, if there is ever a need for me to go elsewhere, I'll leave."
Moroha blinked at her. "Well sure! I mean, it's not like you're stuck with me or anything. You can go wherever you want."
She paused, then smiled at her. "You're being a lot more friendly. Does this mean you want to be friends?"
Reasui stiffened. "Friends? I mean, we just met. We're practically strangers right? I was just showing some common courtesy and…." She trailed off as Moroha pouted at her.
"Well fine. I guess we can just be associates for now."
Reasui laid down beside her, staring at the sky as blue birds chirped and sang. "Days can be so peaceful, and yet, you never know when a day might be your last."
Moroha leaned on one elbow. "You mean to say you've lived your life with that train of thought?"
Reasui closed her eyes, remembering a distant memory. "I have to. A peaceful day just like this was a last for some people I knew."
Moroha flopped down again. "I see. I'm sorry."
The kitsune shrugged. "Don't be. It won't bring them back. I just have to keep searching. One of them must be alive. It's only been a year since I set out. And you've been the nicest demon I've met. The others just screamed bloody murder at me."
Moroha snorted. "Hahaha. That's usually what they do. Scream and then scream some more when you kill them."
Reasui smiled. She opened her eyes, sand yellow irises thoughtful. "Thanks. That was funny. You know, before we set off, I need to visit the hut you're staying at for a bit."
Moroha sat up. "Okay. Why?"
Reasui sat up as well, one tail pointing towards the village. "I need to teach you how to cook."
