I know the progression seems slow and that Link has not officially appeared yet but I really want to setup correctly how Zelda is adapting to her condition.

Link and the champions are coming soon no worries. Also Tears of The Kingdom got it's first trailer recently ... I'm just disappointed, Zelda is gone, and there is basically nothing "new". Feels like Nintendo is just not taking any risk , at this point I'm not following canon, I'm just writing what I liked from Breath of The Wild and what I would have liked to see.

I miss Twilight Princess so much ... anyway thank you for the reviews, even if the TLOZ category is slowly dying. I was just done seeing countless Katuski X Izuku in BNHA (Hell, a bully is a bully, stop trying to make them repent, a little karma strike back is good from time to time.)

Back to Hyrule now ...

The truth hurt so much, Zelda felt Khoga's hand gripping her shoulder, holding her back ... from running away ? From collapsing ? Far from that, at the moment the princess felt her insides twisting, her heart racing, her head buzzing.

She had the whole scene pictured, her father and Impa unable to find her, her friend and even the whole Sheika clan being blamed for her disappearance ... and her father, hateful as always, but so exasperated by this event that he would simply pretend nothing ever happened. Instead swearing another young woman to secrecy and forcing her to act as the princess of Hyrule.

"We do not have all the details, but this is what we know, the rumour was spread by our own agents when "you" weren't following your usual schedule, it's a tactic we use to distract the army and prepare sabotage or thievery. I will announce that "you" reappeared tomorrow ... I'm- ... I'm sorry."

Zelda gestured for Khoga to let her walk for a moment, to distract herself, as a result she almost tripped but Khoga managed to catch her. Khoga began to regret, but it had to be done "You should stay still, process the fac-"

"I know ..." the princess answered, holding back a sob. "I'm fine I-I left for a reason after all but-" her voice was failing her, she had to stay strong, like she always did.

"Crying is fine, I won't mock you ... just let your emotions out for once." The princess tried to hold back, she didn't want to listen to Khoga, a princess should never be this weak. But she couldn't find any strength, Zelda was too exhausted mentally.

So she cried ... and the princess hated to admit it, she wanted to cry, to scream her pain, to yell it as loud as she could not the rest of the world and that felt good to do so.

Impa had been relieved of her duties. The king had been less than polite when he did so, she was the one who discovered that the princess was gone, she had to handle the shock and the panick.

The king though ... when he learnt that his daughter was nowhere to be seen, he simply spent the next thirty minutes blaming Impa and all her clan for their inability to protect the kingdom. Then he proceeded to sent back if not banish most of the Sheika back to Kakarico.

Impa though was "invited" to keep the princess disappearance a secret, so most of the Sheikas didn't even understand why they were being kicked out of their homes in castle town. The king most likely knew he couldn't simply cut all his connections with the Sheikas.

And then before being escorted out of the castle Impa was forces to discover the king's emergency plan, a double ... she barely resembled the princess and Impa could read a sentiment of distress in this young woman's eyes.

Roham Bospharamus Hyrule had gone mad ... if he wasn't totally before that is.

As she was "rushed" out of the castle Impa's attention was caught by a young man travelling on a horse, she felt something odd about him ... no it was probably nothing.

She never thought she could fail that much. The princess, her friend was gone, kidnapped ? Perhaps even worse, the king didn't bother to search for her, this day was just so wrong ... no she wouldn't give up, she had to find Zelda, she had to save her friend.

Khoga stayed with Zelda as long as it was necessary, the princess had stopped crying eventually, in fact she managed to calm down sooner than the Yiga had expected. Her face was shining, her trails of tear tears reflecting the dim light of the torches and the fire pit. And her eyes, red and tired ...

"You are very strong, despite what he might have told you. If you had any power, you would definitely have the mental to unlock them. And I know what I'm speaking about, using magic, no matter under which form is no simple task." Kuoga tried to comfort her, he didn't really know what he could say but it was better than nothing.

It made the princess smile and that was more than he could hope to obtain "Thank you ... I- ... I'm glad you told me now, it's-it's painful but it doesn't hurt me as it would have before. I crossed that line already, I should go back with Freya and-" khoga handed Zelda her mask, she needed fresh air and there was no point in keeping her here any longer.

"Go, and if you need to speak, you can just ask me or Sooga. I'm not letting anyone in my clan going for a mental breakdown. You can trust people ... I mean you can trust us, even though we wanted to kill you ... I mean- ... it's getting akward is it ?" Zelda laughed.

It was, the princess didn't mind, she had learned that honesty was precious recently.

"I- ... I will get back to my task tomorrow, I promise I won't let this slow me down." Zelda took back her mask and left the room. Khoga wondered how many time she had said something similar to the king or anyone else.

Zelda headed back to her room, Freya was changing to go to sleep when she entered, her roommate didn't waste any time to see that something happened.

"Sheik what's- ... did you cry ?" Zelda close the door behind her, she gestured for Freya to make less noise. Freya literally dragged the princess to her bed and forced her, more than invited, to sit down for a moment.

"I'm- ... I'm better than I was a few minutes ago, master Khoga spoke with me and- ... Freya can I trust you ? You are the one who told me that most people here try to find a new life right ?"

"So this is what it's all about ... yes, you can trust me. I would never betray a fellow Yiga. If you want to speak-" Freya dragged a crate from under her bed filled with- "Wanna add some Noble Pursuit to the conversation ?"

The princess had no idea how Freya managed to get these drinks out of Gerudo town, but she had to admit that she wasn't against some alcohol for once. She only ever drank with Impa or Urbosa, considering they were the only people she trusted enough to keep quiet about these kind of liberties. Mipha could have but discretion was never her best aptitude.

"I'm not against it at all, you do not mind ? It must have been hard for you to get these from Gerudo Town" Zelda wondered.

"Hard ? Pfff, not at all, a lot of us can just enter the town and pretend to be simple travelers, you should come with me one day." The princess didn't think twice, she would never be able to take a step into Gerudo Town again now, not without encountering Urbosa and ruining her new life here.

Zelda shrugged and opened a bottle, Freya did the same and offered a cheer to the princess. They didn't speak for a whole minute, perhaps to let the liquid do it's part with their moral.

Once she felt relaxed enough Zelda began to speak "My father has always been- ... strict, he has an important position and I was expected to do my part as well. But for reasons that I do not want to specify I was just "physically" unable to do so, so instead I tried to help in all the places I was able to, even if it meant hurting myself in the process. My father never seemed to recognise my efforts, always complaining about my- ... disability. I left because he-"

Freya suddenly looked at Zelda with an expression of shock and apprehension, she was placed her hand on Zelda's arm and seemed to be searching for bruises or scars on the princesses body, she wouldn't find any, or nothing left from the king's tantrum.

Zelda nodded her head negatively to reassure the engineer. "It's not what you think, He didn't do anything that terrible to me but he definitely went too far one night. Later I happened to met someone who knew how to help me to flee. And well I am here now, it's not much but I thought you deserved to know more about me. I- ... I feel like I do not belong here, it's getting better but I left so many wonderful people behind me and I don't know how they are reacting after I run away. I have been trying for so long to keep going and not give up but I snapped that night and what I feared the most happened ... I do not know if i made the right decision or if everything I have been doing so far was guided by hate and pain."

Freya took another sip of Noble Pursuit before speaking "I understand what you went through, my story is a bit similar, I will spare you the details but basically, I am from a family of fishermen. You can already guess what kind of environment it was, if you aren't a men you are basically useless, well you take care of the house, the food and any other tasks that those simpletons won't do for themselves."

The engineer put down her bottle on the ground to lay down on her bed and stare at the ceiling "My mother died from a nasty sickness she developed during rain season, that's what the local doctor said officially but it was clear that my father and my brothers had their share into her death. She was strong, courageous, I wanted to help her, to run away from this place but she simply never had the occasion nor the means."

The princess felt Freya's pain mirroring her distress back at the castle. She had never felt threatened the way Freya's mother had been. This men expected nothing of her and yet they just- ...

"She didn't like this family, she never did, one day she told me that we don't pick our destinies but that we can still fight to drag them in a desired direction. She wanted me to go and study in Castle Town, I always liked antic technology and science in general. My father was strictly against it, he wouldn't lose a secondary personal slave like that. He somehow managed to spread the rumour that I was "retarded" and as a result anyone who used to support me and my mother before had become quiet."

The engineer grabbed the bottle once again and this time she completely emptied it. "I was- ... well, my father wasn't completely wrong, I wasn't mentally disabled at birth but in my current state I wasn't mentally alright. I overheard his conversation with my brothers one night, he wanted to "sell" because the fishing activities had been bad this month ... I didn't waste any time, I knew what herbs to use, I knew how to poison them and start a fire. Everything happened so quickly that I barely remember the details but the result was the same. I destroyed them and everything the represented, I keep asking myself if I was right to do so, or if I could or should have thought about such a plan and executed it when my mother was still alive."

Freya was a bit too drunk to cry properly but the high pitched tone that her voice was slowly gaining gave Zelda enough hints regarding Freya's emotional state. The princess hugged her, she didn't care about etiquette or any kind of social boundaries she had been taught. "You-You think that you didn't do the right thing Sheik? Well- ... I don't know either, but one thing I know for sure is that we are both safe here, and that these people will never be able to hurt us anymore."

The engineer was laughing ... Zelda knew that murder was wrong, but these disgusting men, if they weren't already monsters judging by their actions, they deserved to die, to suffer for their crimes against Freya and her mother. Any doubt that remained into Zelda's mind was erased.

There is no good or bad action after all, only consequences, and she didn't care about side consequences. Coming here was the right thing to do. "Thank you Freya ... I'm sorry for bringing back such horrible memories."

The engineer rubbed of her tears with her hands "Do not apologise, I brought back the bottles for this kind of situations after all." Zelda noticed that she had also emptied her bottle, at least she get a long night of sleep too ...

"Freya I- ... there is something else I need to tell you ... I- ... I am-" Zelda was interrupted by a pretty loud snore, it seemed Freya had collapsed in her arms. She didn't want to wake her up and- ... after all it wasn't so uncomfortable. So the princess tried to lay down on Freya's bed as slowly as possible in order to not wake up the engineer.

The next day Zelda woke up with no Freya resting over her body, but she definitely recognised the smell of alcohol from their conversation last night. The princess felt like she had slept for an entire day, which seemed to be a miracle and a disaster at the same time. She checked on Freya's mechanical clock, she had been sleeping for about nine hours, a record truly. Freya was still in their room, she was now resting on her desk, she moved during the night obviously but Zelda was worried that somehow the engineer felt like the princess stole her bed when she decided to not move last night.

Zelda had to go work though, she prepared herself silently, before leaving their room she wanted to check if Freya had been working during the night. It seemed that the clawshot was finally completed.

Zelda was surprised to find a few of the Yiga she met yesterday waiting in front of the storage room. They explained that they wanted to help her a bit since they were gonna have to move the content of the room to their own stocks anyway.

Zelda's task might as well be completed by the end of the day. Whatever could be recycled or sorted as raw materials and equipment was quickly documented, moves out of the room and given to whoever wanted it ir needed it the most.

At some point the princess thought that a group of Yigas were about to fight over a crate of opals, she knew that the shouldn't attract any attention to herself that way but if she was forced to Zelda would try to prevent such an accident. In the end she didn't have to do anything. The Yigas just shared the content of the crate and moved on.

By the time the Yigas went for their lunch break more than half of the storage room had been cleared. Satisfied with her progress Zelda went back to her room to check on Freya. The engineer was awake this time, and quite busy on a new project.

"O-Oh Sh-Sheik Hey Hum ... I-I need to know ... did- ... did we do- ... no we didn't right ?" Zelda had to processed what Freya was stuttering about for a few seconds.

"Oh no ! Haha we-we didn't do anything naughty like that I-I just didn't want to disturb you last night and you just happened to fall asleep on me so- ... no, nothing to signal. Just a normal uh "sleepover" between girls." Zelda had no real idea though of what was an actual sleepover, unless it meant ordering Impa to make sure that the princess finishes her work even if she was in fact insisting for her to go to sleep.

"Ah good good I just- ... I mean I didn't want to invade or anything and there was alcohol in the mix so I panicked a bit but everything is fine, just some fun time between girls and uh ... Oh wanna have a look at my next project ?" The engineer gently dragged Zelda toward her desk. The clawshot had been discarded back to a shelf and replaced by what looked like a small guardian, Zelda had never seen such design, and it looked really "recent" compared to the larger one they found.

"Is that a guardian ?" The princess did not know exactly why, this guardian despite his unusual appearance seemed very familiar.

"Not exactly, you see, I have a theory regarding guardians, I think that they do not have a mind of their own. The big ones that the Sheika have been uncovering around Hyrule are merely like soldiers or- ... bees taking orders from their queen, this one though has some sort of "brain" ... but it doesn't look like I can connect any power source to it." Freya removed the top frame of the guardian, revealing it's messy inside and some big spherical component.

"Now here is the interesting part, you must be aware that during blood moons the Great Calamity manifests itself randomly around Hyrule right ? Master Khoga says it happens when a great disaster or crime has been committed which make sense considering what we fight against ... uh anyway, a few weeks ago during the last blood moon the guardian actually actived for a few moments, it was glowing all red and exploring the room. It ended up noticing me and we just stared akwardly at each others for a moment. Eventually we were about to interact with each other when the blood moon stopped and the guardian just turned off."

"You- ... you mean-" Zelda was shocked, Ganon could take control over guardians like that ? It meant- ... no impossible, the bigger guardians never had any incident like this one. And if such an event happened in the past then legends or even bits of record would have mentioned it to prevent such a catastrophe to happen. But the question lingered "It can take control of guardians ?"

"I'm not sure, I guess it can disrupt their processors for sure considering that they are both relying on pure energy to materialise or function. But I got curious and well ... master Khoga says the next blood moon is going to arrive soon, of course it will mean that monsters and human alike will go a bit crazy during this time but ... well, would you like to go on out with me on an expedition ? I have made some adjustments and modifications to the guardian to allow it to be able to produce some kind of vocalisations. And I wanted to take it out of the hideout to see if perhaps we could get into contact with the Great Calamity that way."

The idea was, scientifically interesting, but in reality Zelda instinctively thought it was a terrible and risky idea ... and yet it was more than tempting. "Yes ... yes that would be more than interesting to attempt, is Khoga aware of this ?"

Freya smiled "Well that's the thing, this guardian was stolen from the castle and master Khoga just sent it to me as he does with anything related to ancient technology. I informed him of the accident of course and he told me to keep looking into it. Communicating the Greath Calamity is a bit weird ... sometime people get visions, they always say it's either from the future or a totally random place in Hyrule. And you know the weird part ? One day someone actually predicted an eruption at Death Mountain, the exact time and was supposed to begin and the duration of the whole event."

"I do not remember anyone ever documenting the effects of a blood moon, I guess it was impossible before considering Ganon wasn't ..."active" ? So what is your plan ? Why not just leave it here like last time ?"

"It's too confined here, during blood moons a lot of us gather into the pit to "bask" into the red light in hope of conversing with the Great Calamity, most of us just do so to feel better. I- ... I tend to forget what happens after such events and it makes me uncomfortable to forget something I just did so I just stay in my room instead."

"I have seen a few blood moons myself ... but I never felt anything special, are some people more affected than others ?"

"Again it's my own theory but I think it has something to do with traumas that you may have experienced in the past ... you know about mine already, and you have your own, so who knows ? The Great Calamity is a manifestation of people's pain and resentment. No wonder why we are more affected than others." Freya put back the small guardian into a crate.

"Anyway how is your task going ? ... oh we should go eat actually, you will tell me everything on the way."

Zelda informed Freya of her progress, the engineer was impressed, she explained that Yigas do not have specific posts unless their talents are needed somewhere. Freya has done a lot of different things since she joined the clan, documenting ancient technology and studying it of course, crafting bombs and other chemicals, she helped to design new outfits depending of what missions Khoga and Sooga were planning.

Apart from Sooga and a select few no one had an actual rank in the clan.

"So how does one become ... a lieutenant for example ?" Asked the princess has she bite into a fruit, she felt comfortable enough to place her mask above her head while she was having lunch with Freya at the cantina. Her blond hair didn't seem to catch that much attention after all.

"Oh well nothing really, you just have to do something that would "earn the respect of the whole clan and the Great Calamity itself" to quote Master Khoga, Sooga is the best example for that he went on so many solo missions that everyone believes him to be invincible, you could poke him with a fork that he wouldn't budge from even an inch !" Freya was right, Sooga had a remarkable warrior profile.

"That he is, I wonder how he even manages to blend into a crowd."

"He has his ways ... say, if I manage to get some hair die, would you like to go to Gerudo Town with me ?" Freya was way too enjoyed with this idea of yet another girl time, the princess was not against it if it meant people would have a hard time to recognise her but Khoga would most likely not trust her enough to let her out yet.

"I-I will think about this, I should go back to work now. People are waiting for me." Zelda put back her mask over her face and waved at Freya before returning to her work.

Urbosa was absolutely furious, Impa had travelled across the desert as fast as she could to bring back news from the castle. The leader of the Gerudo knew the Roham had some nasty temperament but this crossed the line, hitting her baby bird like this ... her blood was boiling, at the same time the guards present in the room knew that a storm was approaching for the following days.

Rain into the desert, a miracle really, but the Gerudos knew that it meant one thing, their chief was enraged and Hyrule would suffer the consequence.

"Do you know where is the princess now ?" Asked Urbosa as she tried to keep her composure.

"No ... I sent our best agents to search around the whole kingdom but so far nothing, either she doesn't want to be found or something else happened to her." Explained Impa, sitting on a chair and trying to recover from her long run across the desert. "I haven't warned anyone else yet, Mipha and Revali are too close from the king to properly help us and Daruk is- ... well he is him. And it seemed obvious to me that is the princess really ran away she would definitely be here. Her majesty trusts you the most, she- ... she sees you as-"

"I know." Interrupted Urbosa, Zelda knew how to defend herself and how to survive in the wild, she was smarter than what most people would think. If she wasn't here it only meant two things, one, she didn't trust her enough to not send her back to Hyrule, and two, if she wasn't here yet there was still the possibility that her baby bird met someone hill intentioned.

Urbosa stood up and gestured at her captains "Block the frontier and make sure the king knows that he doesn't have our support anymore. I will not follow that fool's plan to hide his crime, anyone who has informations regarding the princess will be rewarded depending of what they have to share. We can't organise search parties without any intel. Impa can I count on your clan's support ?"

"Most of the Sheika clan has been forced to go back to Kakarico, and as the head of the clan I can make sure that the elders won't try to help the king ... but my actions are limited, if the king decided to make an example we won't be able to defend the village for long. Compared to the Gerudos we do not have an actual army. Let's say for now that if you need our talents you can ask me anything."

"Perfect ... you should try to look into the Yiga clan's activities first, if something happened to Zelda there is a big chance that they have something to do with it."
