I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here, this is my first fanfiction. I have mentioned this in my profile, but I enjoy putting myself in the worlds of Harry Potter and other places, so my fanfictions will be about me in those worlds, and his/my adventures with those characters. If that doesn't sound something you are interested in then go ahead and find something you prefer to see. If you are interested though go ahead and read the first chapter and I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 1
A chance meeting
Harry nervously walked down the Platform. Everything so far had been overwhelming. Finding out he was a wizard, and that he was going to Hogwarts like his parents, was one of the most surreal experiences he had ever experienced in his short life so far. Hagrid, the softy that he was, was also very kind, even if he was a bit strange at times. However, as good as a man he was, he could have at least pointed out where the Platform to Hogwarts was, a Platform titled 9 ¾, instead of just giving him his ticket and disappearing in a blink of an eye.
Harry had asked a nearby train conductor, where such a platform was, but he had just asked him if he was some kind of joker, before walking off. Now, Harry felt completely lost and stupid, as he stood there, holding his trolley, looking the picture of a lost kid. "You okay?" A voice asked Harry turned to see a boy, possibly the same age as himself, standing next to him, looking at him with a small look of concern. The boy was interesting to say the least. He was taller then most their age, by at least 4 inches. His face was thin, with some kind of aristocratic look to it. His eyes were a Hazel, mixed with Green. His Hair was deep purple, with short back and sides, with the top being sideswept in smooth waves. He was dressed in a short leather jack, a faded iron maiden shirt, with black ripped jeans and black converse.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine" Harry said nervously "I…I'm just…a bit lost"
"Hogwarts too, huh?" the boy asked, looking at his trolley
"Yes" Harry let out a small sigh of relief "Hagrid just gave me my ticket and disappeared without giving me directions"
"Hagrid?"
"Yeah, he is the Groundskeeper at Hogwarts, he was helping me with getting everything I need"
"Hmm" The boy hummed, before gesturing for Harry to follow him "Follow me"
Harry had to quickly follow the boy, as he seemed to have a quick pace in his steps. He was feeling quite confused when they stopped a few feet away from a wall.
"Okay" The boy said "All you have to do, is run into the wall between signs 9 and 10, it will take you to the platform…take a runup if you are feeling nervous"
Harry looked at the boy wondering if he was pulling his leg, but he saw no amusement anywhere.
Deciding to just go for it, he took a steady breath before he walked forward, which slowly went to a jog and then a full sprint. He closed his eyes as he got closer to the wall, expecting to crash. Instead he felt some weird kind of warping feeling and when he opened his eyes, he found himself staring at a beautiful Crimson train, with the sign Platform 9 ¾ above it. He stood still staring in awe, until he heard a voice behind him.
"You may want to move out the way"
Harry turned to see the boy standing behind him and quickly moved out the way. Just in time too, as a few seconds later, someone else came running through the wall.
"T-Thank you for helping me" Harry said "What is your name?"
"Oh, where are my manners…I'm James Badger, nice to meet you" He replied, extending out a hand Harry looked at his hand for a moment, before shaking it.
"I'm…Harry Potter" He replied, wincing as he said so
To his surprise, James didn't look shocked or acting strange around him, which other people have done when they realised who he is.
Instead, James just smile as he leaned back slightly.
"You don't say" He said "I was expecting you would be going to Hogwarts…interesting"
"What is interesting?" Harry asked
"You aren't anything like what the books say" James shrugged "Guess I was right in assuming they were fake"
"There are books about me?"
"Dozens of them, they were labelled as non-fiction, but seeing as you haven't been heard of, or seen in ten years, I knew they had to be fake"
"You don't care that I'm famous?" Harry asked
"Of course I don't" James replied "Famous people are just normal people like everyone else"
"Do you want to be friends?" Harry asked, before he could stop himself
"If you wish to be" James smiled "Now come on, train leaves in five minutes"
"Wait, what about your stuff?"
"Shrunk them down" James shrugged, patting his jacket pocket "Now come on"
…
Thankfully, they were able to get on board and find a compartment, just before the train pulled away from the station. Harry wasn't quite sure what made him ask James to be friends, there was just something about him.
"So, do you know what House you'll be in?" James asked
"No" Harry replied, a bit startled with the unexpected question "I have been told about them, but I am unsure…what about you"
"I expect either Ravenclaw or Slytherin" James shrugged
"Slytherin?" Harry asked timidly, remembering what Hagrid had told him
"Is there a problem?" James said, not out of annoyance, but out of curiosity
"Well…its just…I've heard bad things about Slytherin" Harry said, trying to use the right words so he wouldn't upset or offend his new friend
"Ahh, I see" James chuckled "Yeah, I will admit, Slytherin doesn't have the best reputation, thanks to Dark Lords and Pureblood Supremacists…however, I will let in to something knowledge not many people know…not all Dark Wizards and Dark Lords are from Slytherin, there have been some from all other Houses"
"I didn't know that" Harry said, surprised
"Yes, people like to forget that" James sighed "Hell, Vold…sorry, You-Know-Who, though most of his followers came from Slytherin, some came from Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and even Gryffindor…he also tried to recruit my family to his cause"
"Why would he do that?" Harry asked
"My family have more darker backgrounds then most" James replied "Don't get me wrong, my family have always fought for the light, but we just aren't afraid of using darker and more lethal spells and curses"
Harry thought for a moment, about what he has been told.
"So, how do we get sorted into our Houses?" He asked
"Something called a sorting hat" James shrugged "It is placed on our head, it pokes around in our mind for a bit, before it places in where it believes we fit best, though apparently it does take our desired house into account"
"So if I asked to go to whichever house you go in, it will put that into consideration?" Harry asked
"Indeed" James replied, before looking at him "You wish to be in the same house as me?"
"I…I have never had friends before" Harry said nervously, "I don't want to be alone"
James looked at him for a moment, a small look of concern on his face.
"I'm sure that hat will definitely put that into account" He said, smiling gently
Harry smiled back, but before anything else could be said, the compartment door opened. Harry looked to see a lanky boy, with pale skin, face full of freckles, blue eyes, long and thin nose, and a thin face that was framed with carrot red hair. Harry also took note of his clothes. Harry's clothes may be hand-me-downs from his cousin, but this boys clothes looked like they had been handed down across generations, they looked worn and dated.
"Badger" He said, in a slight sneer
"Weasley" James replied, in a polite, yet forced, tone
"I have heard the Boy-Who-lived is around here" He said "You seen him?"
"No, haven't seen him" James shook his head, much to Harry's shock
The boy sniffed, before he looked at Harry. His eyes narrowed slightly and his head tilted.
"Do you.."
"I said he isn't here Weasley" James interrupted "Now leave"
"Fine!" The boy spat, before storming off
"Who was that?" Harry asked, after a moment
"That was Ron Weasley" James sighed
"He didn't seem happy to see you" Harry noted
"That's an understatement" James chuckled "He has a serious glory problem…he just wants to make friends with people who are rich, or people who are famous for some reason or another, just so he can climb higher on the social ladder…he tried making friends with me years ago, but I knew he only wanted to be friends because of how rich my family are so I refused…things have been rocky between us since"
"Is that why you lied about me?" Harry asked
"Yes" James nodded "He'll only want to be your friends because you are the Boy-Who-Lived, being your friend means he'll get some share of the fame… you see, he comes from a large, yet poor family and doesn't take a moment to appreciate what he has…the twins are fun though"
"Twins?"
"Fred and George Weasley, identical pranksters, if we run into them, I'll introduce you" James replied "Just don't accept whatever sweets they offer you"
"Why?" Harry asked
"Trust me, you don't want to know" James replied, seriously
"Okay" Harry said "Is there anyone else I should be careful of?"
"Draco Malfoy for one" James answered, almost immediatley "His father was one of You-Know-who's most trusted lieutenants and his family are all for Pureblood Supremacy…though it wouldn't surprise me if Draco tries to befriend you, to turn you to their side"
"Thanks for the heads up" Harry said, appreciatively
"Don't mention it" James smiled
The sound of a squeaky trolley was heard and Harry looked to see an older woman pushing a trolley stocked full of sweets, each one looking weird and colourful. He had never seen so much sweets.
"Anything off the trolley dears?" She asked, looking into their compartment
"You want anything Harry?" James asked, looking at him
"Yes please" Harry said softly
"In that case" James smiled, turning back to the woman and pulling out a small pouch of coins "We'll have one of everything"
The look on Harry's face was priceless.
…
The two of them spent the rest of the journey talking and Harry had been taught a lot about the Wizarding World and it seems that not everything that Hagrid told him was true…especially what he said about Slytherin House. He also enjoyed James' company. He was kind and truthful, however he did see something in his eyes. He wasn't sure what it was, but there was almost a guarded look in his eyes…subtle but noticeable. It was much later in the day when they arrived at Hogwarts. It was dark by the time they arrived. An hour before they arrived, James told Harry they should get changed into their school robes, which seemed like the right thing, as all the others were in their robes too. Harry was slightly worried about changing in front of James, because of his scars, but luckily he didn't notice, as James had his back turned.
When they got off the train, they followed the other first years to the boats, where they boarded one with two girls. One was a blonde haired girl who introduced herself as Hannah Abbot and the other was a bushy haired girl called Hermione Granger. Harry wasn't sure what to think about Hermione, as she kept talking about everything she read about Hogwarts and magic. She was a bit too much for him. He hoped they weren't in the same house. They continued to ride the boat, where they passed a cliff face and Harry saw it. Hogwarts in all its glory. The castle was huge and seemed beautiful in the moonlight. Harry was in awe.
"Welcome to Hogwarts" James said, smiling at him

There we are, the first chapter of my first fanfiction. How was it? Good? Bad? Let me know down below and let me know what you would like to see happen in the story, we have the whole series to go through after all. Now, question time: Who do you want to be part of the main trio? I won't be having Hermione in the group as I'll have her as an academic rival instead of a friend. Also, give me ideas for pairings. I haven't decided who will get with who yet, but don't expect any relationships until at least fourth year. I hope to see you for chapter 2. Will Harry be sorted in Gryffindor, or will he be placed somewhere else?
