I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. Back with another chapter. I'm surprised how many people seem to be enjoying this Fanfiction so far. This Chapter is slightly shorter then the others so far, but I hope you'll enjoy it. Something I also noticed, is that, I forgot to add the moment in the Sorting when Harry feels his scar burn when looking a Quirrell, so I made sure to add it here. I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 5
A burning scar, and flying lessons
Professor Quirrell might have been a brilliant wizard, like people said he was, but his stuttering was beginning to drive Harry mad. Every sentence the nervous man said, took ten times longer then it would someone else. Harry had to resist rolling his eyes, or hitting his head hard on the table. He will say this though; he definitely has better self-control then James, who was banging his head on the table over and over, a red mark slowly spreading across his forehead after every hit. There was something odd though. Harry couldn't explain why, but every time Quirrell looked at him, or glanced his way, his scar prickled slightly, like a small burning feeling. It was faint, but it was there. He had to rub it a few times, which helped a little. Then, when the man turned to write something on the chalk board behind him, Harry felt his scar burn, as if it was about to set alight any moment, causing him to hiss in pain, which caused James to look at him.
"You okay?" He asked
"I'm fine" Harry lied "Just a headache"
"Not surprising" James replied "Why he was made the Defence professor I don't know…I don't condone murder, but if it will shut up that stutter of his, I can make an exception onetime"
Harry chuckled slightly, before turning his attention back to the lesson, as best as he could.
…
Quirrell watched as the students left his classroom. One student in particular, one Harry Potter. He knew what he had to do. His master had given him an order and he will always do his masters bidding. There was also the matter of his friend, James Badger. Quirrell felt like the boy might be a problem, and his master agreed. His master didn't care what Quirrell did with Badger, but he needed to go either way, as well as Potter. All in good time.
…
James and Harry had only just left the classroom, when they were stopped by two identical red headed boys.
"Ah, just who we were looking for" One said
"How are you, James?" The other asked
"Fred, George, I'm perfectly well" James smiled, before turning to Harry "Harry, let me introduce you to the famous Weasley Twins, Fred and George"
"Nice to meet you" Harry said, smiling
"Ah, Harry Potter" They said in unison, bowing in perfect sync "Two great, handsome, legendary twins at your service"
Harry smile grew. He liked these two already. It was then when one of them pulled out a box.
"Fancy one of our sweets" They asked, opening the box, to reveal an assortment of sweets and chocolate, varying in different shapes and colours.
"Don't bother guys" James rolled his eyes "I already warned him not to eat whatever sweets you offer to him"
"Oh, why?" Fred asked
"Come one, James, why spoil our fun?" George added
"27th August 1989" James replied, with a serious look
Harry was confused, but judging by the looks on the twins face, they knew perfectly as they got rid of the box.
"We understand" George said
"We understand perfectly" Fred nodded
"Now, why were you looking for us?" James asked
"We heard about everything going on with Ron" Fred sighed
"We'd like to apologise, to Harry especially, for his behaviour" George said "We just hope you don't think the rest of us to be the same"
"Don't worry…I won't judge you because of him" Harry said "But…why does he keep trying to befriend me"
Fred and George looked at each other, before they sighed.
"Ron, has an…inferiority complex" George said
"He always wants more" Fred continued "never takes a moment to think about what he does have"
"He also expects things to just…happen for him" George added "He never tries hard for anything…our older brothers Bill and Charlie worked hard to get to where they are, but he just doesn't seem to understand that"
"I hope he understands, sooner rather than later" James said
"We hope so too" Fred sighed, before smiling "Still, it was a pleasure to meet you Harry"
"Indeed" George said "Whilst its disappointing that you aren't a Gryffindor, we are still glad to have met you, if you need anything just ask"
"I'll keep that in mind" Harry smiled, before they left "I like them"
"Told you they were fun" James replied "More fun than Peeves"
"Who is Peeves?" Harry asked
"A poltergeist who enjoys pranking, and tormenting, students" James replied "I'm surprised he hasn't done anything yet…he's probably planning something"
…
The next day, Harry stood by James as they, along with the Slytherin and Gryffindor first years, were waiting outside, each with a broom lying at their feet. Daphne had also said hi to them, choosing to stand on Harry's other side. Both she and James, were rolling their eyes, as they heard Malfoy bragging about his skills on a broom. They weren't waiting long, until a woman arrived, in black robes with silver-grey hair, and yellow eyes.
"Hello first years" She said "I am Madam Hooch and welcome to your first flying lesson…now, before we start any flying, I want you to hold your right hand out and say 'Up', off you go"
Every student simultaneously held their hand out and said 'Up'. Immediatley, Harry's broom effortlessly shot into his hand. James gave him an impressed look, before his broom flew into his hand, with a fluid, elegant grace. It took quite a few minutes but, eventually, all students had their brooms in their hands.
"Now, that you have got your brooms, I want you to mount it" Madam Hooch instructed "Grip it tight…don't want to go sliding of the end, I will then check your grips, before moving on"
Everyone started to mount their brooms, gripping hold of the end and standing ready. Madam Hooch then proceeded to check every students grip, amusing James greatly when Malfoy was told he was gripping his broom wrong, and has done for years. She then looked over at Harry and James.
"Now that is a good way of holding a broom" She praised
Malfoy scowled, as James sent him a small smile.
"On the blow of my whistle, I want you to kick off the ground, hard" She said "Keep your broom steady…hover for a moment, lean forward slightly, then touch back down…ready, 1…2…3…"
As soon as she blew her whistle, Neville's broom started hovering up into the air, before shooting off, Neville screaming as it went off. The entire class went after him, with Madam Hooch using a spell to slow him down.
"Will he be okay?" Harry asked
"Don't worry, I'm sure he will be fine" James replied
It was that moment, when Neville got his robe caught on a statue, which caused him to fall off of his broom and hit the ground, hard.
"Okay…" James said "I'm going to shut up now"
Madam Hooch rushed over to Neville and gently helped him up, as his whimpered slightly.
"Oh, poor boy, it's a broken wrist" She said, before turning to the class "I'm going to take Mr Longbottom to the Medical Wing…if anyone is riding their broom whilst I'm gone…the one riding it will see themselves out of Hogwarts, before they can say 'Quidditch'"
"Did you see his face" Malfoy said, once she was gone, holding up some glass ball "If the fat lump remembered to give this a squeeze…he'd remember to fall on his fat arse"
The rest of the Slytherins, besides Harry, Daphne and James laughed.
"Give it here Malfoy!" Harry said, approaching, adopting some of the confidence James had
Malfoy slowly turned to him, a sneer on his face.
"You have no authority over me Potter!" He snarled, juggling the ball in one hand "You are a disgrace to our house…a shame really…as for this, I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find…how about the roof?"
Malfoy then jumped onto his broom and rode up high into the air, overlooking them.
"What's wrong Potter?" He called down "Bit beyond your reach?"
"That sounded like a challenge" Daphne spoke up
"You're right about that" James said "Feel up to a challenge Harry?"
Harry said nothing. He just narrowed his eyes at Malfoy, as he mounted his broom.
"Harry, no way!" Hermione spoke up "You heard what Madam Hooch said, besides, you don't even know how to fly!"
Harry just ignored her, as he shot up into the air. Surprisingly, he found it very easy to ride. He expected to struggle slightly. He kept going up until he was level with Malfoy, a good few feet away.
"I don't want to hurt you Malfoy" He said "But I will if I have too!"
"Don't make laugh Potter!" Malfoy smiled, as he kept chucking the ball in the air
Harry growled slightly, before he shot forward to grab it. Malfoy was shocked at the speed for a moment, before he dodged, but only just. He looked back to Harry, holding the ball up.
"Have it your way then" He shrugged, before he threw it across the school grounds
Harry immediatley shot after it and, for whatever reason, slapped Malfoy on the back of his head as he passed. He wasn't sure what made him do it. He flew across the school grounds, chasing after the glass ball. When he was close enough, he reached out his hand, catching the ball, coming to an abrupt halt as he did so. He smiled, staring at the ball, before he slowly made his way back down. Most of the students, minus Malfoy's goons cheered, when they saw him holding the glass ball and ran to congratulate him.
"Potter" A silky voice spoke
Everyone turned. Harry looked slightly worried, when he saw it was Professor Snape, who was approaching them. Snape had a look of mild surprise on his face, as he approached. He stopped in front of them for a moment, before he gestured back to the castle.
"Follow me" He said
Harry swallowed nervously, as he followed after him. Everyone watched them leave, Malfoy in particular was smirking as they walked off.
"Is he in trouble" Daphne asked James
"I'm sure he'll be fine"
…
Harry was sat inside the potions classroom. He was currently alone. Professor Snape told him to wait, before he left again. If Harry was being honest, he was nervous. Was he in trouble? Was he going to be expelled? He hoped not. It was then, when Snape came back into the classroom. This time he was accompanied by a boy, who Harry remembered to be Marcus Flint, who looked at Harry quizzically.
"Mr Potter" Snape said "I'm sure you know, this is Marcus Flint, captain of the Slytherin Quidditch Team…Flint, I think I have found you a Seeker"
Both Harry and Flint looked at Snape in surprise.
…
So there we have it, Chapter 5. I hope you enjoyed.
The Weasley Twins have been introduced. What did you think? I always loved their characters, so of course I was going to add them at some point. Also, it may be odd to introduce Peeves in a weird place, but it will make sense soon, you'll see.
We have also had the first flying lesson. I don't know how different the books and movies are, but I searched the timeline of Harry Potter so I didn't get anything wrong and the flying lesson came before the Halloween feast. For some reason I thought it was after. It also seems Harry is starting to be influenced by James, especially with how he slapped Malfoy on the back of his head, on the broom. Do you think its too soon for that? Or do you want to see more of Harry adopting James' antics? One of the reviewers, I believe it was Magitech, gave me the idea of Harry being disinterested in Quidditch. I thought about doing that, but would involve changing quite a bit of plans I had and I feel like Quidditch is kind of important to Harry's character, so I left it in. I hope you don't mind Magitech. Also, I know I kept calling the remembrall a glass ball but remember, Harry is a Slytherin. He wasn't there when Neville recieved it, so he wouldn't know what it was called. Hope that makes sense.
Magitech, and a couple of others, also gave me the idea of Harry being paired with an older witch, who is not a BWL fan girl. What do the rest of you think? If it is something you would like to see, give me ideas for who you would like to see, whether they already exist, or an OC. Also my friend told me that, seeing as I have always had a childish crush on Tonks, I should do a James/Tonks pairing. I think he may be joking, but I want to see what you think. [Lupin, back off, she is mine!]
Before I forget, Magitech, James and Daphne aren't already together, just not properly dating like you said they are. I know I told you this in a message, but just thought I'd say so here, though I can see why you may think of that they are together.
One last thing. Do you guys like the frequent chapter posts, every couple of days, or do you want it to be more of a 1 chapter a week kind of deal?
I hope you enjoyed the chapter and I hope to see you for the next one.
