I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC.
Hello guys, Badger here. I hope you all enjoyed the previous chapter. This chapter is a bit shorter then others, because of college work, I couldn't write a big chapter, I hope you don't mind. Anyway, I am glad to see people enjoying the story and please, do give me ideas, for I love seeing what you come up with, I know I keep saying that, but I just love seeing ideas other people make. Anyway, please enjoy!
Chapter 6
The birth of a Seeker
"Sir, not to be disrespectful" Flint said "But he is just a first year, what makes you think he can be our new seeker?"
"Because I have seen it for myself" Snape replied "By the way Mr Potter, what were you doing up in the air, whilst everyone else was on ground?"
"Malfoy sir" Harry said "He…he took one of Neville's possessions and threw it across the grounds"
"Malfoy?" Snape asked "Do you still have this possession?"
"Yes sir" Harry replied, removing the glass ball from his pocket
"Give it to me" Snape said "I'll see that it is returned to Mr Longbottom and I'll definitely have a chat with Mr Malfoy"
Harry nodded and handed it to Snape. He pocketed the glass ball, before he turned back to Marcus Flint, who still looked confused.
"I want you to give him a trial for the team" Snape said "If you think he is good for the team, then I expect him to be on the team, understood?"
"Understood sir" Flint nodded
…
"I must say, I'm impressed" James whistled
Harry was walking down one of the many corridors of Hogwarts, after coming out of one of their lessons and heading towards the great hall for lunch. He told James everything that happened after he caught, what James informed him to be a remembrall.
"Do you think I should do it?" Harry asked
"Of course" James replied, looking at him, as if he was an idiot "I think you will be a great seeker"
"But what if I mess up?" Harry asked "What if I make a fool of myself?"
"Harry you aren't going to make a fool of yourself" James said "being a seeker is in your blood"
"W-what do you mean?"
"Follow me" James said, heading down a different corridor.
Harry followed behind James, confused as to where James was taking him. He led him down some stairs, through more corridors, before they came across a row of trophies, which James stopped in front of one of the larger cabinets and turned to Harry.
"I found this not to long ago" James smiled, gesturing to one of the trophies "I think you should take a look for yourself"
Harry moved closer to see what was written on the trophy. It was a wooden plaque, with small metal shields, the name of each player engraved on them. However, there was one that caught his eye. SEEKER: JAMES POTTER.
"See what I mean" James smiled "Your father was a Seeker, just like you…one of the best seekers if what I've heard is true…so you see, I have no doubt you will be just as good as he was"
Harry smiled softly, as he looked at the small shield with his father's name on it, feeling more confident than he was before.
…
It was later in the day and Harry was following Marcus Flint, who had a trunk levitating behind the two of them, with Harry holding a broom. They headed onto the Quidditch pitch, before Flint had the trunk gently drop to the floor. Usually, Harry would be trying out with the other hopeful students, but Snape had requested a private trial, where Flint will decide at the end, whether Harry was good enough for the team.
"Okay, do you know anything about Quidditch?" Flint asked, as he began undoing the lock on the trunk
"A little bit" Harry replied "James told me what I need to know, earlier"
"Good, then you at least know what to look out for" Flint said "Of course, should you make the team, you will have to train and given time I'm sure you'll be a natural…also, don't be afraid to ask for anything if you need help"
Harry nodded, as Flint opened the trunk, revealing several balls. The largest ball was brown in colour, which Harry remembered to be called a Quaffle. Next to it, were smaller balls, that were black in colour, which were shaking about, as they were chained in place. Those were Bludgers, he remembered commented on them, calling them "Nasty little buggers". Flint ignored them both, as he opened up a small compartment in the trunk, pulling out a small gold ball.
"Seeing as James has told you about Quaffles and Bludgers, I won't go on about what you already know" Flint said, holding up the golden ball "This is all you need to worry about…the Golden Snitch… a nasty little devil, extremely fast and almost impossible to see, it will be your job to catch it…as you know, the game ends when the Snitch is caught, earning the team who caught it 150 points, though doesn't always mean the team wins…for your try out, I will have you try and catch the Snitch, as many times as you can…we have two hours until sundown, which is when we'll end the try-out…if I like what I've seen and depending on how many Snitches you've caught, you are on the team… understand?"
Harry nodded, as he mounted his broom, remembering the instructions from Madam Hooch's flying lesson. He waited for Flint to release the Snitch before flying into the air.
…
Harry felt alive as he flew around, looking and chasing after the Snitch. There was something about being up in the air he enjoyed. Maybe it was because his father was a Seeker? Maybe it was his genetics? He couldn't be too sure, but he enjoyed every moment of it. He wasn't sure how many times he caught the Snitch, but Flint seemed to be impressed with each catch. When he returned the Snitch one last time, Flint called the try-out to an end, as the sun was just going down.
"So…did I do good?" Harry asked, taking a breath
"Good?" Flint said "Good? You were bloody amazing! You must have caught the snitch about 20 times…maybe more"
"Does…does this mean I'm on the team?" Harry asked
"Of course, you idiot" Flint smiled, rolling his eyes "There is no doubt that you are Slytherins new seeker!"
…
"I told you" James said, as Harry told him the next day "It's in your blood…you must be the youngest seeker in, how long exactly?"
"A century" Harry answered, smiling "At least, that's what Professor Snape and Flint told me"
It was then, when Harry felt two arms wrap around his shoulder. He looked to see the Weasley twins behind him. Where they came from, he wasn't too sure.
"Congratulations Harry" Fred said
"We just received the news" George continued
"Maybe now we'll have some proper competition" They finished in unison
"Thank you" Harry smiled
"Maybe you should join the Slytherin Quidditch team, James" George said, turning to look at James
"I'm fine on the ground" James smiled, rolling his eyes "I like flying but I'm not so sure about Quidditch"
"Shame" Fred replied "The two of you being on the same team would sure be a force to be reckoned with, with Harry being a Seeker and you being a Chaser, with that mean throwing arm of yours"
"I'll consider it, okay?" James said, sighing
"That's all we ask" The twins said in unison "We look forward to our first game against you Harry"
The twins then walked off, saying their goodbyes and disappearing round the corner. James couldn't help but roll his eyes again.
"As much as I love those fellas, I do wish they would stop asking me to join a Quidditch team" He said "Ever since I first played against them, they've been going on about it"
"Well, there is no harm in at least trying out" Harry shrugged
"Yeah I guess" James replied, before Susan popped up
"Hey guys" She said "Congratulations on making the team Harry"
"Thank you Susan" Harry smiled softly
"I can't wait for your first match against Hufflepuff, I'd like to see how you fair against Cedric Diggory, apparently he is a natural too" Susan said "Anyway, see you around"
Harry watched Susan leave, surprised at how sudden she left. James was also surprised, though not for the same reason.
"That sly little Hufflepuff" He said
"What is it?" Harry asked
He turned to see James holding a letter, that he has opened, reading through its content, smiling slightly, before he looked up to Harry.
"She snuck this into my hand, before she walked off" James said
"What is in it?"
"It's a response from her aunt" James said, his smile growing "you don't have to worry anymore, by the end of the school year, those relatives of yours will see themselves locked up"
"Really?" Harry asked, feeling excited and nervous at the same time "D-Do you think she will be able to get them arrested?"
"Of course" James smiled "Like I said, Amelia Bones is part of the Alliance…plus she has a mean streak towards things like this…which explains the words she used to describe your relatives…with her in charge, they won't stand a chance"
Harry smiled, as the two made their way down the corridor. He had been nervous about the letter since he gave it to Susan, but now he can relax a little, knowing that by the end of the school year, he will be free of the Dursleys.
…
There was Chapter 6. I hope you enjoyed and again, I am sorry with how short it is.
I hope you don't mind with how I pretty much skipped through Harry's try out. There isn't really much to work with from the books or movies, as there are just a brief scene. I also hope you don't mind with what I am doing with Marcus Flint's character. I wanted to do something different and, though he won't be a main character, he will be there as a Quidditch Mentor for Harry.
Speaking of Quidditch, what did you think about the twins wanting James to join the Slytherin team? Is that something you guys want to see? If you do, [or don't], please let me know. Also, though I don't remember the authors name, I have read a few fanfictions where Susan sneakily places letters in Harry's hand when she passes him, so I decided to use that here. And before I get people mentioning it, I know Cedric wasn't the Hufflepuff Seeker until 1993, but there was no information on the Seeker before him, so I thought 'screw it, lets have him as the Seeker'.
The Dursleys are also in hot water now, even if they don't know it. Now that James has a response from Amelia, we shall see them handled with soon enough. There will be a small time jump in the next chapter, where we will see the Halloween feast with the troll. I find there isn't much to work with, for the first Harry Potter book/slash movie, which makes it the harder year to write about, but do expect changes to the story, big and small, from second year onwards.
One last thing, a friend from college has started reading this fanfiction, so if they are reading this, what's up man? Anyway, they also had their own theory for what might be on James' photo that he hid from Harry, but was wrong. It makes me smile when someone comes up with a theory for what it might be, so please leave suggestions for what you think it is. That's all for now, I hope to see you in Chapter 7.
Badger out!
