I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. I am sure you have been looking forward to the fight with the Basilisk. I do hope I did okay. I am not used to writing fight scenes, so I don't know how good it is. Please let me know if I did okay. If it needs work, I'm sure I will do better giving time.
I am glad to see the previous Chapter did well. I won't say who, but one person made a small complaint about the story, to them, was beginning to get boring as it has stuck close to canon. I have said this on a few occasions, the story will stick close to canon for the first couple of years. Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are where the story moves further away from canon. Please understand this, I don't like having to remind people. Also, if you find the story is boring, then move on to something else, as this fanfic clearly isn't for you.
That is all I will say for now, please enjoy the new chapter.
Chapter 26
Enter the Basilisk
"I don't believe you" Harry said "You're lying!"
"Why would I lie?" Tom asked, raising an eyebrow "It may be something no one seems to know, but it is true…"
"We've known James for years" The Twins spoke up
"There is no way he is an Heir to Slytherin" Fred added
"There are many things about James you don't know about" Tom smirked "Then there is you Harry Potter"
"What about me?" Harry asked
"Ginny Weasley spent a lot of time writing about you in my diary and it was interesting" Tom spoke, silkily "After the attack on James and Luna, she became aware of what the diary was doing and it scared her…she tried to remove it, by deposing of it, inside the girls bathroom…where you would soon find it…the one person I have been anxious to meet…you see, right now, mudbloods and blood traitors aren't my main concern right now…for a while now, my main target, has been you"
Harry looked confused for a moment. Tom smirked before he turned, taking out a wand, which he used to write with a spell unfamiliar to the trio. Harry shared a look with the Twins, as the words Tom Marvolo Riddle were written in the air. With a flick of Tom's wand, the letters moved and shifted spelling out something different: I AM LORD VOLDEMORT. Harry's eyes widened.
"You…you are Voldemort!" The Twins exclaimed, both looking fearful
"Wait…that means…you are the Heir of Slytherin!" Harry spoke
"That is correct" Tom grinned "Do you really expect me to keep my filthy muggle fathers name…no… I wanted a new name…a name that would bring fear into those around me…a name worthy for the Heir of Slytherin…then, Ginny wrote in her diary about you Potter…I find it hard to believe that I would be defeated by a mere infant, who could barely walk on his own…the fact that you shook off a killing curse, coming out relatively harmed with nothing but a scar…whilst Lord Voldemort was destroyed!"
"I don't know how I escaped" Harry replied "I do know that whatever you have planned won't work…in a few months the Mandrake draught will be ready and those that are petrified will be all right again, as well as anyone else you may try to petrify before then"
"Not that he will!" Fred spoke up
"Because we're going to stop him!" George continued
Tom smirked, as if the very idea amused him. His hand gripped his wand tightly, as he tilted his head to the side. Before anything could happen, they heard a sound, that reminded them of flames, coming from behind them. They turned to see Dumbledore standing in the chamber, wand in hand, a Phoenix on his shoulder, which flew off. The aged wizard looked slightly shocked to see Tom, but he quickly composed himself.
"Well, well, well" Tom sneered "the old man himself chooses to arrive"
"I don't know how you are here, or what you hope to achieve here Tom" Dumbledore replied, calmly as he stepped in front of Harry and the Twins, as a mean to keep them safe from any harm "But your attempts will be in vain"
"That's what you think Dumbledore" Tom smirked, where he turned to the statue of Slytherin, before anyone could do anything "Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the four!"
A loud rumbling sound comes from the statue, where it begins to shake, as the mouth begins to slowly open. Tom smiled, as he looked back at them.
"Let's just see how you do against the Basilisk" He said
Dumbledore looked in fear, as the group watched the mouth open, where the Basilisk slowly slithered out, where it looked to be about 60 feet in length.
"Don't kill them with your gaze, I want to give them a chance" Tom spoke to the Basilisk, which seemed to nod, before he turned to the others "I wouldn't bother trying your Parseltongue ability Potter, it only obeys me"
Harry and the Twins got their wands out, as the Basilisk rose to, almost, its full height, as it looked down at them, the protective shielding over its yellow eyes, before it lunged at them, mouth wide open and its teeth shining. Dumbledore immediatley sent a small banishing hex on Harry and the Twins to save them, as well as using a spell to get Ginny's unconscious body out of the way, before he got out the way himself. Just in time to, as the Basilisks head hit the ground a second later, where it recoiled in pain. Tom watched, smiling to himself as he stood to one side, as he watched what was, to him, going to be a massacre. Harry shook the cobwebs from his head, after being sent flying on his back, before he got back up, with the Twins doing the same. They each stood, side by side, as they all sent a cutting curse at the Basilisk. Due to the thickness of its skin, the spells barely did anything, only causing a few scratches and irritation for the serpent. The Basilisk let out a roar, before it swept its tail, hitting the three, sending them flying again, the impact knocking the wind out of the them, a few bones most likely broken.
With the three currently incapable of doing anything, the Basilisk lunged in for another attack, only to recoil, as it hit a transparent wall, with a sickening crunch, blood rushing across its snout. Dumbledore let out a small sigh, as he dropped his shield charm. He then sent a small blinding spell, as well as a spell, which sent a high pitch noise affecting the Basilisks hearing, as well as causing it irritating pain, which made it thrash around slightly. Dumbledore kept the spell going, to stall for time, for Harry, Fred and George to recover from the impact. Fred and George recovered first, slowly getting to their feet, wincing in pain, as the both of them felt that they, at least, had a few broken ribs as well as a few broken bones in their arms and legs. Ignoring it for the time being, they moved forward and sent a few more spells at the Basilisk, Fred sending a few cutting curses to irritate the serpent and cause recoil, whereas George sent stinging hexes, as well as cutting curses, at the eyes, in hopes of blinding the Basilisk, with Dumbledore helping to disorientate and confuse the serpent.
Whilst they were busy with the Basilisk, Harry was slowly getting back up. He knew he had a few broken ribs, and he suspected that some bones in his arms and legs was broken too and possibly even a mild concussion, though he wasn't sure. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he looked to see the others attacking the Basilisk as best as they could. He was about to move forward to help them, when a bird call interrupted him. He looked to see the Phoenix that brought Dumbledore into the Chamber, flying to him, with something in its talons. When it flew above its head, it dropped what it was holding, which Harry caught. He could no see it was the Sorting Hat. At first, he was confused as to why the Phoenix thought the hat could help, when there was a small light coming from where someone would usually put their head, before the hilt of a sword appeared. Harry looked at the sword in shock for a moment, before he grabbed the hilt and pulled it out. Surprisingly, the sword was light and felt as if it was made for Harry. Putting the hat to one side, Harry approached the Basilisk. He had an idea, but first, there was a short climb ahead of him.
Dumbledore sent another spell to disorientate the Basilisk, impairing its hearing and causing it more pain, at the same time as George, who sent a cutting curse at the Basilisk, which impacted its eye, making the serpent recoil, as the spell connected, leaving a deep gash, where the eye once was.
"No!" Tom growled "You may have partially blinded the Basilisk, but you still have no chance of making it out of here alive!"
As Tom was talking, Dumbledore and the Twins noticed something behind the Basilisk, which made them smile.
"I wouldn't be so sure of that Tom" Dumbledore replied
Tom growled at the calm demeanour of the Headmaster, as well as the twinkling in the mans eyes, that always used to irritate him. He sneered once more, before he turned to the Basilisk, which stopped thrashing around from the pain.
"Kill them!" He said
The Basilisk hissed and was about to attack, when something stopped it.
"Stop!"
The Basilisk did, looking confused at the voice it didn't recognise. It turned to face where the voice was coming from, to see Harry standing on top of the statue, sword in hand. Seeing Harry, it roared, before it lunged at him.
"Gotcha" Harry smiled
Grabbing the opportunity, Harry thrust his sword up, stabbing the Basilisk, through the rough of the mouth and out of its head. This caused the Basilisk to cry out in pain, whilst Harry felt a massive pain shoot through his arm, as he felt one of its fangs pierce through the skin and into the muscle. Harry removed the sword, which immediatley caused the Basilisk to recoil, where the fang remained lodged in his arm. Harry removed the fang, but he could already feel the venom begin to take effect. Everyone watched, as the Basilisk thrashed all over the place, before it fell to the ground, dead, with a crash. Tom stared at the dead form of the Basilisk, unable to comprehend what happened. Harry slowly made his way down the statue, where the Twins helped him walk, as he staggered to Dumbledore, before he collapsed, sword clattering to the ground. Dumbledore rushed over to Harry, to inspect the wound on his arm.
"Extraordinary isn't it?" Tom asked rhetorically, voice calm but anger evident on his face "How the venom in the blood penetrates the body…"
"Don't worry Harry" Dumbledore interrupted "I can get you help…"
"Even if you could old man, it would do no good" Tom sneered "Soon Ginny Weasley will be dead and I will cease to be a memory…Lord Voldemort will return, very, much, alive!"
As Tom was talking, Harry noticed that the diary was gently glowing an ominous green glow. Whatever was going on, the diary was definitely playing a part in it. He pulled out his wand and, with what energy he had, he summoned the diary to him, lifting up the Basilisk fang, which caught the attention of Tom.
"What are you doing?" Tom asked, nervously
Harry stared at Tom, his eyes glowing intensely.
"Go to hell" He said, before he slammed the fang into the diary
As the fang pierced through the cover and its pages, Tom Riddle let out a bloodcurdling scream, as he seemed spark and disintegrate, whilst the diary spurted thick black ink all over Harry's hand and the stone floor. Harry glared at Tom, as he continued to scream, before he exploded into nothing but dust. The Twins looked at each other, as if they were trying to process everything they just saw, whilst Dumbledore looked at the diary in shock. He couldn't believe that a Horcrux had been right under his nose the whole time. He had a suspicion as to what it was, but wasn't sure until now. A pained hissing sound coming from Harry broke the headmaster out of his shocked state, where he immediatley grabbed Harry's wounded arm, ignoring the protests that came from the weakening boy.
"Fawkes!" Dumbledore called
The same Phoenix from earlier flew toward them and landed next to Harry. Seeing the wound on his arm, he knew what needed to be done. He lent over slightly, where some tears fell from his eyes, which landed on the wound. There was a slight burning sound, as the blood seemed to evaporate and the puncture hole closed up, leaving unblemished skin, leaving Harry in shock.
"Sir…what was that?" He asked
"A Phoenix's tears have healing powers Harry" Dumbledore explained "Thankfully, the tears have seemed to have done the trick and just in time to save you too"
"T-Thank you, sir" Harry replied, though he didn't trust the man, he was grateful that he did something to help him, for once
A small groaning sound, came from behind them. They looked to see Ginny slowly sitting up, looking confused as to where she was.
"Ginny!" The Twins exclaimed, as they rushed to her
"Fred? George?" Ginny asked, as they gathered her into a hug, where she then noticed Dumbledore and Harry "H-Harry….P-Professor Dumbledore, sir…it wasn't me…please believe me…Riddle made me do it…I didn't want to but…"
"Miss Weasley" Dumbledore interrupted, holding his hands up in a calming gesture "Calm yourself and don't worry…we know it wasn't you…Riddle has been destroyed"
"Really?" Ginny asked, to which Dumbledore nodded
"We should get you out of here and see a mind healer, just in case" Dumbledore spoke, stroking his beard "There is no telling what being possessed in such a manner could do to ones mentality or their mind"
Ginny nodded, before the sound of people approaching alerted them. They looked to see Amelia Bones, Susan and Daphne entering the Chamber, with a group of Aurors following after them. They stopped when they saw the scene in front of them. Amelia looked at the dead body of the Basilisk, to the sword laying on the ground, to the fang and the diary, and then to the small group gathering around Ginny, who was still being held by Fred and George, who looked like they weren't going to let go anytime soon.
"Dumbledore, I want an explanation about all this" She said
…
There we go guys, the new chapter is over.
What did you guys think of the fight? As I said, I am not well experienced with writing fight scenes. I'm sure I will get better in time, but I tried my best with this one. It was actually a last minute decision to add Dumbledore into the fight, as I always found it weird that Dumbledore sent Fawkes alone. I have seen reasons why he didn't go himself, but I still felt like he should have been there at least. Because of that, the original chapter was scrapped and I wrote a chapter involving Dumbledore.
I know he only had a brief appearance, but what did you think of Tom Riddle. Did I do a good job with his character? I do not know what I will do with a Voldemort's character, just yet, but I do plan to have him be this insane psychopath, due to splitting his soul several times. If you remember a few chapters back, I asked what you guys think would happen if Tom Riddle rose to power and Voldemort from Goblet of Fire onwards found out and what he would do. The idea actually made me interested to do a fanfic based on the idea at some point in the future. When this Fanfic is finished I will plan other fanfics and see what you guys think of the ideas I have planned.
That is all. I hope you enjoyed and I will see you in the next one.
Badger out.
