I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hey guys, Badger here. How are you all today? Things have been pretty chill the last few days, meaning I could properly relax and write this chapter without any hassle. Thank Christ. How was the previous chapter. I can't be too sure. I hope you found it all okay.
This chapter was written the day after the previous chapter was published. There isn't much else to say here. I find it difficult sometimes to write Authors Notes, as I feel like I'm repeating myself. I just wanted to remind you that there is a new poll up, so please feel free to leave a vote. That's all for now, read on and I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 36
Seeing ghosts
The air had been thick with tension for the past few days, as Harry stewed in anger, nothing but Sirius Black on his mind. In Harry's eyes, the man was a traitor who deserved death for what he done. He didn't want to believe that the man was his godfather, but the thought festered in the back of his mind. Eventually, he decided to ask someone about it. He needed to find out if it was true. When his Potions class was over, he asked Snape if he could speak to him.
"What did you wish to tell me Harry?" Snape asked, as he sat down at his desk
"I want some answers" Harry replied "I need to know…is Sirius Black my godfather?"
Snape leant back in his seat, giving Harry an apologetic look, as he rubbed a hand on his face.
"I'm afraid so Harry" He said "He was named as your godfather shortly after your birth…he, your father and Lupin were inseparable"
"Wait, Professor Lupin knew him?" Harry asked
"Yes" Snape nodded "he was often there to stop your father and Sirius from doing something stupid, though did get involved with their pranks from time to time"
"None of this makes sense!" Harry exclaimed, dropping down onto a chair "Sirius and my dad were close friends and yet he is one of Voldemort's most loyal followers?"
"I agree that it makes no sense" Snape replied calmly "He may have been from the Black family, but he never agreed with his families beliefs…whether it was a façade, I can't be sure…though he never possessed the qualities that Voldemort's allies had"
"So people have said" Harry muttered "Can I go now sir?"
"Of course" Snape nodded
Snape watched Harry leave his classroom, a sad look on his face. It was a shock to a lot of people when Black was put in Azkaban, though only a few like himself believed it was untrue. After all, he worked as a spy for Dumbledore, posing as a Death Eater and not once did he see Black in any of the meetings. Harry was indeed correct in the whole situation not making any sense. Snape rolled up his sleeve, looking at the tattoo that caused him misery all these years. A tattoo which has faded over time. If Black was a Death Eater, it is possible he may try to bring Voldemort back and Snape knew what that meant. He glared at the tattoo in disgust, before he rolled his sleeve back down. If Voldemort did return, he would need to play spy again. He just hoped that when that happened, Voldemort would be killed for good.
…
That night, Harry was looking through the Marauders Map, as he was unable to sleep. Whenever sleep refused to come, he would spend time watching Filch and other teachers patrolling the halls, to make sure students were out after curfew, especially now with Black's recent sightings. As he was looking through the map, one name caught his attention: Peter Pettigrew. He leant closer to the page, rubbing his eyes, making sure he wasn't seeing things, but it was there clear as day. But that wasn't possible. Pettigrew was dead. Black killed him. He looks to James, wondering if he should tell him about it and investigating, but James was flat out asleep and, as Harry knows by now, nothing would get him to wake up. Sighing, Harry got out of his bed, deciding to look on his own. It should be easy. None of the teachers were patrolling where Pettigrew was wandering about the halls.
The corridors were dark and dim, a small chill in the air. Whilst he held the map in one hand, keeping an eye on Pettigrew and any nearby teachers, Harry held his wand in the other, a small ball of light on the tip, to light the way. He walks down many corridors, climbing a few staircases, before Pettigrew and his own name were mere meters away. Just round the next corner. Harry stopped as Pettigrew's name turned and started moving towards him. His wand arm trembled slightly as he got closer, until his name was right next to his. Harry turned to see…no one. He looked back at the map, to see Pettigrew moving away. Harry made the light on his wand brighter, to see that no one was there. He stood, confused, until a voice made him jump.
"Harry, what are you doing out here?"
Harry turned to see Lupin looking at him, looking more then exhausted, his clothes ruffled.
"Umm…" Harry replied "I…I was…"
"Where did you find that?" Lupin asked suddenly, noticing the map in Harry's hand
"Fred and George gave it to me" Harry replied
"Okay, follow me" Lupin said "You have some explaining to do, but we aren't going to talk out here"
Harry used the counter spell on the map, putting it in his pocket, as he followed after Lupin. None of them said anything, as they walked down the corridors and into the Defence Classroom, with Lupin closing the door behind them.
"Okay Harry" Lupin spoke "How come you are in possession of the Marauders Map?"
"How do you know of the Marauders Map?" Harry asked
"I made the Marauders map" Lupin replied "Well, me, your father…"
"And Sirius Black?" Harry interrupted "I know you were friends"
"Yes we were" Lupin sighed "I thought I knew him but…I'm not sure what to think anymore…"
"You aren't the only one" Harry muttered, causing Lupin to give him a sad look
"Anyway, you didn't answer my question" Lupin spoke up, after a moment of silence
"Fred and George gave me the map earlier in the year" Harry explained "They found it in Filch's Office during their First Year…if it's yours, would you like it back?"
"No, keep it" Lupin replied "There were maps made for each of the Marauders, of course one of use got ours confiscated…besides, mine is somewhere in my luggage, I just never really saw a point in opening it…You better go back, I'll let you off this time, but only this time, understand?"
"Yes sir" Harry nodded
"Good, I will see you on Saturday for our next Patronus Lesson" Lupin nodded "Now off you go"
Harry nodded and went to the classroom door, but stopped as he put his hand on the door handle, turning back to Lupin.
"By the way sir, I'm not sure the map works the whole time" Harry said "I found a name of someone who I know to be dead"
"Who is that?" Lupin asked
"Peter Pettigrew" Harry replied
A look of surprise came across Lupins face, as his eyes widened.
"That isn't possible" He said
"That's what I thought" Harry replied "But…that's what I saw"
"Okay Harry, I'll take a look into it" Lupin said "Now, off you go"
Harry nodded, before he left, leaving Lupin alone in the classroom, thinking about what he had been told.
…
And...done. New Chapter. What did you all think. Good? Alright? Terrible and I should just give up now and die? Do let me know.
This was a bit of a shorter Chapter, so not much going on. The small moment with Harry talking to Snape was added, as it has been a while since there was a moment between the two talking. I hoped there would be a few more moments between the two in this story, but I guess we can't have what we want. Also, is it just me who found it weird that the Marauders didn't make another map, after it was confiscated by Filch? I know it may have taken a lot of time and magic to make, but surely they would have made another one at least? This is why in my story, each member of the Marauders have their own map. It's something I would do.
That's all for now, just another reminder about the new poll that's up. I hope you enjoyed the new chapter and I will see you in the next one.
Badger out.
