I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. Are you all okay? I hope you are. I'm back again, this time with a slightly longer chapter, so hopefully that will cheer you up if you are down. Once more, we have a fair few newcomers who have come across this story. If you are reading this: Hello, I hope you are enjoying the story. Anyway, I meant to post this chapter yesterday, but there were personal problems, which meant I was unable to finish writing the chapter, but it's here now and I think you will like what I have in store here.
That is all for now. Read on, and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 68
Treacherous Umbridge
The next morning, Harry sat with Harry and Daphne, as they ate their breakfast. The air was still tense, many still fearing a possible attack. The younger years would always walk around in groups, or with an older student, as they were scared the most. Harry hoped the fear would pass soon. Voldemort's return made Harry wonder if Dumbledore knew he would come back. If he did, why did he not say anything sooner? A few people seemed to be looking to him to do something about it, as he was the 'Boy-Who-Lived'. Like that meant something. He was a baby, he just sat there, he didn't even cast a spell. The more Harry thought about his so-called fame, the more confused he got. According to what he knew from Hagrid and Sirius, as soon as Voldemort was 'destroyed', Harry was immediatley taken away and dropped off at the Dursleys. If that was the case, how did people know what he looked like, or that he had a scar on his forehead? He remembered when he was eleven, people's eyes would always move up to his forehead when he introduced himself. How could they possibly know about it? A clink glass averted his attention to the Teachers Table, where he saw Dumbledore standing up.
"I hope you have had a good breakfast" He said "Before you go, I do have an announcement to make…no doubt, some of you are worried about the recent Daily Prophet article, I assure you, you are safe in these walls…however, I understand some of you are concerned, Professor Flitwick was approached by Mr Potter and Mr Badger about such concerns, because of this, I have given Professor Flitwick permission to start up a Duelling Club for all to attend"
There were cheers and applause all across the Great Hall at the news. Many were cheering and thanking Harry and James, where Harry blushed a little, still not used to the attention, whereas James just gave a small wave and smile, not bothered by it at all. Harry looked over to the Teachers Table, were he saw Flitwick smiling at him, giving him a small nod, which made Harry smile in return.
…
At the Teachers Table, Umbridge was not looking happy. With the look on her face, you could be forgiving for assuming she was chewing on a wasp. If looks could kill, Harry and James would be six feet under by now. She knew what they were trying to do. As she felt her arm burn slightly, she knew what she was going to do. The two were going to pay.
…
As they had a free period, Flitwick asked Harry and James to join him in his classroom, wanting to discuss plans for the Duelling Club.
"Glad you came" Flitwick said "Usually the teacher would be the one to teach the Duelling Club, however, as you two came to me with the idea, and considering your performance in the Tournament last year, I thought it would be fair if you helped teach any that apply to the club as well"
"Really Professor, are you sure?" Harry asked
"Of course, I believe students can learn a few things from you two" Flitwick replied
"So, what is the plan?" James asked
"I took a moment to think about it, but I think it will be fair if I teach the First, Sixth and Seventh Years, whereas you two teach everything in between" Flitwick replied "That way I can introduce the basics to the First Years and teach more advanced and complex spells to the Sixth and Seventh years, with you two doing the same for the rest"
"That seems fair" Harry nodded, after sharing a look with James "James and Sirius have taught me a few things I can teach them"
"Despite my family's wide range of magic that some consider dark, there are a few safer spells I can teach the younger years" James added "I can also teach the older years a few more advanced spells"
"That's good to hear" Flitwick smiled "As I understand it, the two of you know the Patronus Charm, I wish for you to teach the others as well"
"Why is that Professor?" Harry asked
"During the first war, You-Know…Voldemort, recruited them to his cause" Flitwick replied, shocking Harry and James as he used his name "Considering that, and the fact they disappeared shortly before the Azkaban attack, many believe the same thing will happen…regarding that, it may be unnecessary, I want the other students to learn as well"
"I think that's fair professor" James nodded
"Good, now off you go, I'll send a message regarding the clubs timetable soon" Flitwick said
Harry and James nodded, before they got up. Before Harry left however, he had one last question for Flitwick.
"Professor, do you think there will be a war?" He asked
"I hope it doesn't, but it's possible" Flitwick sighed "Cornelius Fudge and Amelia Bones have done a good job regarding Death Eater threats so far, but I fear it won't be enough…"
…
Umbridge watched as the students began packing their things. Her gaze was on Harry and James. Before the two left, she called out to them.
"Mr Potter, Mr Badger, would you please stay behind?" She asked "I wish to speak to you"
Harry felt uneasy at her tone, as the other students were leaving the room. As the two of them sat down in their seats, Umbridge discreetly waved her wand, locking the classroom door.
"Professor, why are we here?" Harry asked, in forced respect
"Oh, I think you know" Umbridge replied, her sickly sweet tone now gone "I know what you two were trying to do"
"We have no idea what you are talking about professor" James replied, raising his hands in a defensive manner
"Oh I think you do" Umbridge said, her eyes blazing with rage, as she stood up "I was just going to punish you with Blood Quills, bide my time, but now…I think my master will love it if I brought your heads to him"
"Your Master?" Harry asked, suspicious, discreetly flicking his wand into his hand, under the table
"Yes, you know him very well Potter" Umbridge smirked "And I will make him proud…Avada Kedavra!"
Harry and James immediatley jumped out the way, narrowly avoiding the Killing Curse. Harry immediatley fired a Bone Crusher, as he rolled along the floor, which Umbridge easily swatted away. James, feeling a sense of Déjà vu, conjured a nearby book into a sharp spike and fired it at her, which impacted her shoulder. Umbridge let out a hiss of pain and fired a Cruciatus Curse at James, who ducked under his desk to avoid it. Not giving James another chance, she fired a blasting hex at the desk, which shattered, causing James pain as several splinters pierced his skin. Harry quickly fired a cutting curse at Umbridge who blocked it.
"Is that all you got Potter?" She snarled, firing a Killing Curse
Harry jumped out the way, as Umbridge fired more curses at him. With Umbridge distracted with Harry, James was able to fire a cutting curse at her, severing her wand hand off of her arm. Umbridge screamed in pain, before she was put in a body bind. Umbridge start screaming profanities at Harry and James as they approached. James just backhanded her across the face, before he rolled up her sleeve, confirming their suspicions. On her arm, was the Dark Mark.
"Son of a bitch!" He growled "That's two teachers in a row now"
"What do we do about her?" Harry asked
"You stay with her, I'll go and make a few calls" James replied
Harry nodded, as James left, unlocking the door. Harry leant against a desk, as Umbridge struggled against the restraints, yelling profanities. Harry ignored her yells, until her retorts turned personal.
"You couldn't you of just died that night!" She yelled "Why couldn't my master kill you, just like he did with that Mudblood whore, you call a mother!"
"What did you just call my mother?" Harry asked, voice venomous, as his eyes darkened
"You heard me!" Umbridge snapped "Your mother was nothing more then a whore, a worthless mudblood who tried to make herself seem better than everyone else!"
"Crucio!" Harry yelled
Umbridge began writhing and screaming, as pain shot through her body. Harry's eyes were glowing with cold fury and a dark smile spread across his face, as he watched Umbridge scream and twitch from the effects of his Cruciatus Curse. Something then snapped in Harry, causing him to shake his head, like something in his mind cleared itself. When he realised what he was doing, he cancelled the curse. As Umbridge continued to twitch from the effects, Harry thought about what just happened. He enjoyed seeing Umbridge suffer, he enjoyed the cold, dark feeling he felt inside. He shuddered slightly, wondering if there was something wrong with him.
…
Cornelius Fudge paced about the room, a mix of emotions on his face. Shock, disbelief and rage to name a few. Amelia Bones was with him, taking notes from what Harry and James were telling her, whilst Umbridge was being watched over by a couple Aurors.
"Thanks you two" Amelia said "That's all I need…We will need to search her house, see if she is hiding anything...I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, I know the woman was vile, but I didn't expect her to be a Death Eater"
"It must be a recent thing, she always used to wear short sleeve shirts, but a few months ago she started wearing clothing with longer sleeves" Fudge sighed, turning to Harry and James "I should never have agreed to her taking a job here, for that I apologise"
"There is nothing you need to apologise for Minister" James replied, before glaring at Dumbledore, who had been unnaturally quiet "I do, however, find it concerning that me and Harry are attacked by a teacher, who is secretly a Death Eater"
"I agree with Mr Badger" Amelia spoke up "I would've thought, after last year, you would've placed the necessary wards to alert you of such things Dumbledore, to avoid such a thing happening again"
"It was something I meant to do, but alas, with everything going on, it slipped my mind" Dumbledore replied "For that I apologise"
"Indeed" Fudge said, not really listening, as he kept his attention on Harry and James "Delores will be taken into a Ministry Holding Cell until we can set up a trial…considering Azkaban has been burned to the ground, I can't say what could happen…we'll send a message, if we need you as witness during her trial"
Cornelius and Amelia left, but not before Amelia gave Harry a hug and a nod to James. As they left James turned to Dumbledore.
"A secret Death Eater teaching students is already bad enough" He said "But for the same thing to happen a second time, the following year, that's where things become concerning professor"
"I understand your concerns Mr Badger" Dumbledore replied "I assure you, I don't wish for something to happen a third time…of course, I will now need a temporary Defence Professor for the remainder of the year…I'm sure either Remus or Alastor will gladly take that spot"
"I guess that means we no longer need the Duelling Club" Harry muttered
"I think otherwise Harry" Dumbledore replied "I do believe the Duelling Club is a splendid idea, I do hope you won't be teaching them something you shouldn't"
"Of course we won't professor" Harry said
Dumbledore nodded, though he was concerned. He may not know what happened in that classroom, but the cold look in Harry's eyes gave him a small hint. He had seen the same look in Tom Riddle many years ago. The last thing Dumbledore wanted was for Voldemort to be replaced by another Dark Lord.
…
And that's a wrap!
I think it's safe to say, we are all happy to see her gone. However, I don't think anyone was expecting her to be a Death Eater, unless you were. I left a few hints, with Umbridge constantly rubbing her arm, because of her Dark Mark burning. This won't be the last time we will see Umbridge either. I won't say what will happen, but things don't look good for her.
I will admit, this was supposed to happen later in the story: there would have been one or two Duelling Club events before this moment, however I felt like it made more sense, story wise, if it happened here. Also, originally I planned for the fight to last longer and be more grand, but I felt like I would just be repeating myself, with everything from Goblet of Fire, so I kept it short and quick. Then again, Umbridge is a weak bitchy toad, so...
Anyway, I'm afraid there is no QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER today, as there isn't anything I can think to add, but I will try to add one in another chapter. Until then, I hope you enjoyed and I will see you in the next chapter.
Badger out!
