Hello, and welcome to another experimental My Hero Academia fanfic. Once again a new inspiration struck my head during the post-summer season, and while working on my other fanfictions, I happened to scroll some clips on YouTube, and saw a brief portion about Thor: Ragnarok, where it featured the Hulk. This in turn caused my head to work on a random whim and began to do some research, and this led to coming up with a new fic.
This started after researching on Wikipedia, and in the process, I discovered the VERY FIRST TV series that aired way back in 1978. I began downloading the episodes of that series and watched it at home, where I get to see the two stars, Lou Ferrigno and the late Bill Bixby. Although its TV adaptation is loose due to at that time being aired in the 80's which the writer and director wanting to give audience something take seriously without boring them using the same concept from its comic book counterpart, I find it quite okay and appreciate it a lot.
Bixby's performance as Banner was good, and there my mind started working as it gave me an idea and decided to adapt the Hulk TV series and turn it into a fanfic, and then it struck my mind and decided to have it set in the My Hero Academia universe. Midoriya came to my mind since both he and Bixby's character are somewhat relatable, and the rest is history.
This fic is semi-AU and will only partially reflect the canon version of the MHA universe. This means that while UA Academy would be mentioned, Midoriya won't be enrolling there…
And while some pro heroes from MHA are slated to appear…they are going to have a slightly different role…
You'll soon find out why…
Well then, read on and enjoy!
Ch. 1: Higeki-tekina jōkyō e no jokyoku
Japan.
The country that is located within South East Asia, quite near different Asian countries such as China, Taiwan and the Philippines, is seen and that country is ruled by the Diet, and are handled by the Emperor and the Prime Minister. After their defeat at World War II, the country began to change for the better, and for several decades Japan vastly improved, mostly in the technological department yet their culture and values remained the same, as most Japanese citizens remained hospitable to visitors, residents and tourists alike.
The scene then zoomed further and you can see that the scene shows that the place being shown is Tokyo, which is bustling with people who are walking the busy streets, some riding vehicles, and others riding on bicycles. There are several types of people seen on the streets; adults, children, and even infants being carried by their parents. Businessmen, businesswomen, students, policemen, all kinds of persons are seen, and they were doing their usual activities as if they do not mind it.
Shops are open and the merchants are selling their merchandise and are enticing people to buy them in hopes of earning money. It was a typical day and it seems that people today are lively and felt that their lives are full of blessings and couldn't ask for anything more, as some are happy with stable jobs, students studying in the best schools, and more, and some even chatted with one another feeling that today is a good day.
"Hey!"
"Nice day, isn't it?"
"Today is a good day..."
"I love my job..."
"Life is so good..."
"I wish I have a good day..."
"Lots of money..."
"Lots of girls...".
-x-
The following days, the scene shows that life in Tokyo us business as usual, and it was definitely a peaceful day, where pedestrians are crossing the streets and walking by the sidewalks, many are hanging out at certain places, some went on a date and others are meeting up in front of malls, and some gathered at snack bars and you can see lots of people socializing with one another.
It shows how typical the day is here as everybody is relishing their moments and do not seem to have a care of what would come tomorrow as they all enjoy about what comes today.
"Hey there..."
"Today's a good day..."
"Ah...life is so good..."
"Let's have lunch...?"
"Will you be my girlfriend...?"
"Let's get married..."
"Stop right there!"
"EEEP! COPS!"
The scene later shifts to a residential area somewhere in Tokyo, and there you can see that it is a subdivision where a group of houses are there, which appeared to be ordinary, as it is not posh or extravagant, simply a simple area where the residents there are living normally yet happily, and the subdivision is not quite big, yet it can be improved if the area is under construction where the land developers can put up a huge high-rise residential area such as condominiums and hotels that can cater the rich and financially powerful.
But for now, the said area is occupied by ordinary residents living there.
The scene shifts at an apartment, where a five-year old boy, sporting green, curly hair and having a freckled face, is watching a live footage on his computer, where several pro heroes are seen doing heroic deeds like stopping crime and saving people. The little boy is so fixated that he aspires to become a hero himself when he grows up.
The boy is identified as Izuku Midoriya, and he appeared to be an avid fan of the number one pro hero All-Might. As the little boy is watching in awe and admiration, his mother, Inko, smiled as she felt that her son has found inspiration, and there the little boy told his mom that he wants to become a hero like All-Might, which his mom smiled and said he would one day become one.
"Mom! Look!"
"Yes?"
"All-Might is amazing, right?"
"Yes, Izuku."
"Can I become like him?"
"I'm sure you would."
"I'm going to become a hero when I grow up!"
"Yes, Izuku."
However, as fate would make itself apparent, the Midoriya family learned from a doctor that Izuku is Quirkless, and told Inko that they should just give it up, and accept the fact that Izuku is just an ordinary boy and can never become a pro hero, which Inko was in disbelief, asking the doctor how is this possible as she and her husband possess Quirks.
However, the doctor said that Izuku is one of the rare cases where he is born Quirkless and tells her that Izuku should just become an ordinary citizen, attend an ordinary school and live an ordinary life, and tells her that this is how life is, nothing more.
At their apartment, Inko went to her son's room to check on him and saw that Izuku is facing the computer watching All Might's exploits, but saw that her son is heart-broken at the fact that he is Quirkless, as he feels that his dreams will never be achieved and Inko consoled her son, seeing that he is depressed at this and apologized to her son, though all he could do is cry silently at this as he is forced to face the harsh truth and reality.
"M-mom…"
"Izuku…?"
"C-can…I…still be…a hero…?"
"Izuku…"
"…"
"Oh, Izuku! I'm sorry!"
"…"
"I'm sorry!"
-x-
In the years that passed, Midoriya's status as a Quirkless became known to his neighborhood, and neighborhood bullies uses their Quirk to torment him, mentally, and physically, to the point of badly injuring him, and as a battered and bleeding Midoriya lay on the ground, the bullies are ready to inflict more harm on the hapless boy, seeing that he could not fight back due to lacking a Quirk.
"Hah!"
"Look at that!"
"He really is Quirkless!"
"He couldn't even retaliate!"
"You're a loser!"
"You should commit suicide!"
"Yeah, you're a failure!"
"A trash!"
This made Izuku's childhood life unmemorable and Inko tried hard to make her son realize that all is not lost and that she is sure that something good is bound to happen and that a bright tomorrow awaits him and he shouldn't give up on life.
Inko's love for her son proved to be the factor that made Izuku hold on and persevere the challenges that came and he fought the misfortunes that tried to pull him down, and so far he is able to move past the fact that he is born Quirkless.
In the years that passed, Midoriya attended school, and still he is depressed that he did not have a Quirk, as many of his peers are displaying theirs, and even bragged in going to one of Tokyo's prestigious high schools where they teach heroes-in-training so that when graduated, they can get jobs as pro heroes, and even bragged that they will become famous.
"I'm going to this…"
"Me I'm going to that…"
"Once I graduate I'm gonna be a famous hero!"
"I'll be a popular one."
"I'm gonna be a hero that will attract fangirls!"
"Me too!"
"Glad we got Quirks!"
"Yeah!"
Izuku remained silent as he just stared at his notebook while doing his homework and ignored his classmates as they kept on bragging that once they graduate middle school they would try enrolling at several high schools where they teach freshmen on how to make use of their Quirks and how to become a pro hero, mentioning that they want to emulate popular pro heroes that they saw on the news and on other media.
The students felt that they are entitled due to having Quirks and this made them cocky and arrogant and as they glanced at the silent Izuku, they began to pick on him as they asked what career would he take once he starts high school, which they taunted him by saying that he would become a NEET, or worse, a garbage collector or even a janitor.
"Hah! You suck!"
"You're Quirkless! So you should work at the dumpsite!"
"Or maybe you should work at the park picking up garbage!"
"Yeah! You're a nobody!"
"No Quirk means you're useless to society!"
"So why bother go to school when you should be living at the streets?"
"Quirkess idiot!"
"There is no way you can become a pro hero!"
Izuku just ignored them as he continued to do his homework, not wanting to pick a fight with his arrogant classmates, but then they began using their Quirks and physically humiliated Izuku, almost to the point of injuring him, and the arrogant classmates began kicking him around, taunting him that he is nothing because he is Quirkless.
The other classmates were quite scared to intervene as they had weaker Quirks and opted to turn a blind eye and ignore what is happening, which they told the others to forget what they saw, worried that the bullies might vent their ire on them.
"Its okay…"
"Just ignore them…"
"Then they'll ignore you…"
"That's right…"
"It has nothing to do with us…"
"So it's better to leave them be…"
"Yeah…"
"Just don't mind them…"
A teacher came and told the bullies to go back to their seats, and then told Izuku to get up and take his seat, not bothering to check on the boy despite sporting obvious bruises on his face, showing how incompetent the teacher is, and after several hours, classes ended and Izuku went to the school clinic and the nurse is quite incensed upon learning what happened, and she promised that she will tell the principal about what Izuku told her just now.
As Izuku left the clinic he is about to head for the gate when the bullies began to physically harass the hapless boy again and began using their Quirks, which they reinjured the bruises on his face and body, and there they told him that he is better off dead because everything in this world is Quirk-based, and since Izuku is Quirkless, he has no future for him.
"Haha! You really suck! Big time"
"You're Quirkless! So you should just quit school and be a prostitute!"
"Or maybe you should go to the dumpsite and start picking up garbage for food!"
"Yeah! You're a nobody! Just a dog scavenging!"
"No Quirk means you're useless to society! And that's a fact!"
"So why bother go to school when you should be living at the streets? You are just an excess baggage! So get lost!"
"Quirkess idiot!"
"There is no way you can become a pro hero! You should be a criminal!"
A guard showed up and verbally chases the bullies away, but he ignored Izuku's plight and nonchalantly told him to go home and cry to his mother, saying that there is no place for crybabies in this school, as he went back to his post. A group of adults who happened to be visiting the school saw this and are pissed about what happened and the guard's insensitivity, and they helped Izuku up, asking if he is okay and said that they are willing to help him by complaining to the principal about what they saw.
Izuku was silently sobbing as this situation is almost constant, and as he gets up, he began to clutch his head in pain, as something happened to him as the headache is somewhat unbearably painful as if he felt that his brain is about to split apart, and he knelt down while clutching his head while in pain, which alarmed the persons who are trying to help him.
"H-hey…"
"Are you okay…?"
"Is there something wrong, kid?"
"…"
"I think the beating this kid got must be too much…"
"It looks different…look how he is clutching his head…"
"Hang in there, kid!"
"…"
Concerned, two of the visitors hailed a taxi to help bring Izuku to the nearest hospital while the other took Izuku's cellphone and after scrolling through the directory, contacted Inko and informed her of what is happening to her son, and several minutes later, the scene shifts at the hospital where Inko arrived, and there the kind strangers are there, and after confirming Inko's identity they gave her Izuku's cellphone and explained to her the events that took place before bringing Izuku to this hospital.
Inko became concerned and wondered how this happened and why none of the school officials are doing anything to help her son. She became more concerned after hearing about her son clutching his head and asked them where her son is, and they said that doctors and nurses are checking on him at the moment.
