When Ray led Peter out of the room, Victoria asked the remaining two, "is Ray okay?"
"Yeah, I'm sure he's fine," Egon answered with a closed-lip smile.
"Do you know something that I should know?" she asked then.
"What?" Egon asked, first confused by the question. "Oh! No, sorry. You're going to have to ask Ray." Secretly, Egon knew that there was some hint of a crush going on between Ray and Victoria. Nevertheless, he thought he would leave it to the two to tell each other that.
Twelve minutes later, Ray and Peter came back into the room.
"Winston. Egon." Peter called them over to the door while Ray walked back over toward Victoria.
"Yeah, Pete?" Winston asked as they walked over to him.
"We're gonna let these two alone for a little while."
Spengler and Zeddemore walked out first, and before Peter shut the door behind them, he looked over at Ray and Victoria, who was looking back at him either expectantly or confusingly. "We'll be out here waiting for you in the waiting area." He smiled and left.
As the three walked toward the waiting area, Winston asked, "Wait, did I miss something?"
"Tell me you're joking," Peter gave him a weird look. "Where've you been?"
Before Zeddemore got a chance to answer that, Egon replied, "Ray and Victoria have a crush on each other."
"Really? How did I not notice that?"
"That's a good question, Winston," Venkman responded.
"So, I take it he's in there asking her out right now?"
"Well, he was hesitant at first, but I talked him into it."
As the three ghostbusters left the room, Victoria turned to look at Ray, "Ray?"
Ray looked at her shyly and swallowed a nervous lump that stuck in his throat. His mind was going a mile a minute, trying to find the right words on how to ask her out. "I, um," he cleared his throat, "I was wondering if, if you'd like to, uh, go, go out sometime? With me, I mean."
Victoria shared that same shy look, blushing at his words. "You want to go out with me?"
"I do. I know-why am I asking so soon when we've only met twice?" Ray sucked in a breath then let it out slowly. "Well, how we were talking for two hours yesterday, I've gotten to know you some. And, Peter pretty much told me that if I don't ask now, I'll lose my chance at asking a gorgeous woman out."
As if Victoria could not blush another shade of red, she smiled at him and answered, "I would love to go out with you, Ray."
Ray and Victoria were shy toward one another; They both seemed lost but fixated on each other. It was as if they had never dated someone before. As if love was new to them.
Back in the third-floor waiting area, about fifteen minutes after they left Ray alone in the room with his crush, the Ghostbusters were either sitting or standing against a wall.
"He sure is taking long," Winston said aloud, looking toward the room's direction.
"Hey, they're into each other," Peter told him. "Give him some time."
"I'm going to suggest that she said yes. Hence, why he's still in there," Egon noted.
Unexpectedly, Winston saw someone he recognized walk in the direction of Victoria's room. "Hey, guys," Zeddemore said, using his head as a pointer, "That nurse from downstairs, who has a thing for Ray, is up here. And look where she's headed."
The two looked toward Winston's direction and saw Nurse Grovers slow down her pace as she began to get closer to Victoria's door.
"Why on earth would she bother Ray when he's here visiting someone?" Egon asked aloud to himself.
"Now that's just impolite," Peter said, shaking his head slowly.
"I say we stop her in her tracks," Winston suggested.
"Agreed," Egon answered, getting to his feet.
The three rushed toward Grovers and stopped her five feet from the door by blocking her path.
"Your name's Grover's, right?" Peter asked, his arm around her shoulders.
"Yes. Is there a problem?"
"No, no, no. Not at all. We just thought we'd allow Miss Trisity to spend some more time with her hero."
The three Ghostbusters turned her away from the entrance and started walking her away from it.
As they started walking, Egon snuck a peek at the medium-size window of Victoria's room. He saw Ray holding Victoria's hand and the two laughing it up at whatever they were talking about. Then he saw Ray lean over and kiss her on the cheek.
As he tapped Peter on the back and nudged Winston, indicating toward the window, he noticed Grovers did not glance through the window herself to see what Ray was up to. Egon was even confused on why the nurse wanted to see Ray in a patient's room in the first place.
When Peter saw Ray close to Victoria, he thought, Way to go, Ray! Told you you were going to get the girl!
"If you wouldn't mind my asking," Winston began…
"No, go right ahead," Nurse Grovers said, looking back at him as they all continued to walk.
"What is a downstairs nurse doing up here?"
"I'm on my break, and though I know Raymond is mainly here to see Miss Trisity, I thought I'd try again on asking him to lunch."
"Oh yeah!" Peter said, pretending to forget what Ray told them, wanting to stay in character for the hope that she did not know what any of them were up to, keeping a secret from her. "I almost forgot about Ray telling us that!" He looked back and forth between Zeddemore and Spengler, "Did you guys even kindly remember what Ray said?"
"No, I guess I haven't," Winston answered, knowing where Venkman was going with this. "We've been so busy. It slipped my mind."
Egon, going a different direction so they could keep the lie as natural as possible, responded, "I remembered, I just didn't say anything because I didn't know you two forgot."
"That's alright, Egon. We forgive you," Pete said, giving him a small, fake smile.
They were already back in the waiting room, none of them sitting in a chair.
"Another thing that just came to me after being reminded is," Venkman started, "Didn't Ray say he'd have to take a rain check?"
"Yeah, he did," she answered. "I just wanted to see if he changed his mind or even found an opening in his schedule."
Oh, he changed his mind, alright, Peter thought to himself.
Knowing that it was really up to Ray to tell this nurse the truth, Peter only said, "I'm sorry, but we really are booked. I don't know if Ray would have time to go on any date."
"Oh." Then out of curiosity, Melinda asked him, "How's it working out between you and that lady you saved last year?"
"Slow. We hardly see each other," Peter answered truthfully. Peter rarely saw Dana since they both were busy with their work. However, he did see her when he could.
"So, you mean, the relationship isn't going too well?"
This time he lied, "Yeah." He made a sad face.
"So, it may end up the same way with Ray and me?"
"Pretty much."
"I'm curious, though. Since you four are the main creators and are the ones in this ghostbusting business, don't you have the right to take off as many days as you want? Vacation like the rest of us?"
"It's true we indeed could use a vacation," Egon agreed. "But there are too many ghosts out there that the people need our help dealing with."
"But people die all the time. There's going to be new ghosts every day," Melinda pointed out. "Your business, I'm sure, has grown a lot since you started. You need more workers."
The three Ghostbusters only shrugged at that since there was not anything they could do about it now until they were to find some more people sometime in the distant future.
"We'll deal with that on our own time. But thank you for your concern," Egon replied.
Both Egon and Winston were facing the hallway from which they came and saw Ray come out of Victoria's room.
"Would you excuse me?" Winston said. "I have to use the little man's room."
"Of course," Grovers said with a smile.
Egon was going to excuse himself, as well, until his friend beat him to it, and it was a good thing too because he realized that his idea was the other direction.
Winston made his way over to Ray and pushed him back into Victoria's room.
"What're you doing?" Ray asked, confused as he was pushed backward.
Once they were in the room, Zeddemore answered, "Nurse Grovers is out there."
"Oh…"
"What's going on?" Victoria asked.
The two turned toward her, Winston taking another glance at Ray, wondering if he would tell her.
He did. "Well, there's this downstairs nurse who has a crush on me. And, before I asked you out, she asked me, and I told her I'd take a rain check." He stopped there.
Okay, maybe half of the truth, Winston thought to himself. "Ray," he elbowed him.
"I knew there had to be more to that," Trisity said, crossing her arms.
Ray looked down guiltily, brushing his hand through his hair. "Um, there is one other thing."
"Yes? And that would be…?" She motioned for him to continue.
Stantz took a breath, "I have yet to of told her that I've asked you out instead and cancel the rain check."
"Oh? Then what are you still doing here?"
"I guess I should have done that already, shouldn't I?" He sucked in his lips.
"Only if you want to be with me," she told him.
He walked up to her, "of course I want to be with you." Ray took her hand, "it was a mistake that I didn't say anything to that nurse, and I'm sorry. I swear, I'll tell her today."
"Well," Winston started, "we can't have you hide in here forever from that nurse."
Ray looked back at Winston and nodded. Before rejoining Zeddemore, he told Victoria, "Tomorrow, I won't be able to swing by. The guys and I are going to be really busy. But I will come and see you on those other days when I can." He smiled at her as he then said, "On your last day in the hospital, I'd like to pick you up if you don't have anyone going to do so, that is."
"The only thing I was going to do on my last day here was call for a taxi, but I like your idea better." Victoria smiled back at him.
Ray leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.
Ray and Winston rejoined their two friends and the nurse in the waiting area.
As they got closer, Ray asked Nurse Grovers, "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
"Sure," Melinda answered.
Ray found them a secluded spot to not be disturbed; he felt that what he was about to tell this nurse may cause a scene.
"So, what is it that you want to talk to me about?" she asked.
Ray cleared his throat before beginning. "Well, um…" He paused for a moment before continuing. "There's not going to be a rain check…" he stopped so that his words would sink in.
It turned out Ray sensed correctly, for Melinda slapped him in the face even before he got a chance to explain himself.
Ray touched his stinging cheek as she stormed off back downstairs.
Peter, Winston, and Egon must have seen her run off, for they jogged up to Ray. He was not too far from where they were.
"Nice red handprint, Ray," Pete joked, seeing the mark on his left cheek after Ray moved his hand from it.
"It hurts."
"Only for a little while. You'll be fine."
