Kion was still in a coma of sorts, and he didn't stir one bit after his little fall. His whole family were so scared and startled, they didn't even expect it to happen like this, and they all feared for Kikn's safety and well-being, particularly, Simba.
"How is he?" asked Nala
"I sense a pulse on him." said Rafiki. The wise old baboon was checking on poor Kion, and no one could treat a sick or wounded animal like he can. "He is still alive, but he appears to be in a coma-like state. "When he will be conscious again, I am not so sure about. It could he a day, a week, or more than that.
Suddenly, Kion grunted and slowly began to awaken. "What? What happened?"
The family crowded around Kion and hugged him tightly. "Kion!" Kovu said, "we're so glad you're okay, buddy!"
"I thought we'ed lost you forever." said Kiara.
"Are you feeling okay, son?" Simba asked as everyone let go of him.
"Well, my head hurts a little bit. But, I'm confused."
"Confused about what?' Zira asked.
"Who are you?"
every one of the royal family gasped hearing that, and they didn't want to believe it at first, and pretended that he was only joking. Simba and Nala began to laugh in denial, and the mong said: "oh Kion, you are kidding, right?"
"No." said Kion in a confused tone of voice. "I... don't remember anything."
Everyone frowned, and looked shocked. "You really don't remember anything?" Nala said.
"Nope." the cub nodded his head a no to his mother.
"Oh no," said Kiara. "He has amnesia."
"Do not panic, my friends." Rafiki calmed everyone down. "Do not panic." he was feeling Kion's head with his hands as if he has a fever. "Kion, how do you feel?"
"My head hurts. And is that my name?"
"Of course it is, silly." Kiara said. "Short for Kiongozi, but we all just call you Kion."
"Oh."
"Hmmmm... well it is just as I thought. Kion has suffered memory loss in his brain from the impact of the fall. Yes, he is very very lucky to survive that."
"Will he be alright?" Vitani asked
"Not to worry, everybody." Rafiki said. "Kion will, indeed, recover normally overtime." the family sighed in relief to hear that.
"How long will it take?" asked Simba
"It usually lasts about two, to three days, or even a week, but time will tell you the right time. However, he must not receive any more blows to the head. Otherwise, he will lose his memory forever.
"Permanently?" Nala asked
"Just go about your lives, give him as much love and support you can give him, keep him away from ledges so he will not fall again, and he will be just fine."
"Okay Rafiki." Simba sighed. "Thank you."
"But I might suggest that Kion will need something a little cold to place on his head so that his head will heal faster than it usually does."
The family went back to Pride Rock, and Kion was behind them as he looked at his surroundings. "Can you tell me your names?" he asked curiously.
Everyone in the royal family stopped in their tracks, and looked back at the poor cub. "Of course." said Kiara. "But we'll tell you when we get back to Pride Rock. We'll tell you the whole story."
"Well, okay." said the cub flatly. "I'll wait."
Zira was one thing, but now Kion has amnesia. His whole family hoped that he will be back to normal soon, and that he will recover from the fall. The one most worried about this were his parents, for it was their job to worry about their children like this.
As soon as they headed back to Pride Rock, the cub was greeted by Zazu. "Kion, you're awake! What a relief."
"Who are you?" Kion said. "Are you trying to attack me?"
"What? Where did you get the gall to even think something as ludacris as that?"
"Uhhh, Zazu, can we talk?" Simba pulled him away from the cub and they were both talking jb private. "Look, Kion suffered amnesia from the fall, and he doesn't remember us, and he doesn't even remember who he is."
"What? That's terrible." said the hornbill. "What can we do, sire?"
"Well, Rafiki said he will recover over time, but he can't suffer any more falls or being hit on the head again. And the least we can do is give him love and support love a good family we are, and he'll be fine. He probably just needs to relax for a while."
"I see. Well if you need my help, please do let me know." Zazu volunteered himself.
Simba smiled. "Thanks Zazu. I can count on you."
as the hornbill flew off, Kiara went up to her father, and she said: "daddy, I just remembered: how will the Lion Guard patrol if Kion lost his memory? He is the leader after all."
"Ooh, you're right." said Simba. "We can't just make his memories come back out of thin air, and there's no telling for sure when he will get them back. Someone else should take his place."
"I'll do it." Kovu volunteered.
Simba and his daughter looked at the future king. "You want to take charge, Kovu?" Simba asked him.
"Well, yeah. I did it before, right? I can do it again."
"True." said Kiara, "you did fill in for him before. I wonder if he still knows how to hunt."
"We can teach him, but for now, I think we should bring him food for today. He's already hungry enough as it is." Simba thought. "Lucky for me, I found a couple of eland outside the rock that we can catch for Kion. Not all the eland of course, but some of our share to him."
"Good idea, dad." Kiara smiled. "It's still morning."
Meanwhile, Vitani was making sure that the cub was alright and not hurting himself any further. Sue heeded Rafiki's words, and she couldn't let him hit his head. Even the slightest bonk or tap can make him have amnesia forever. "So, you're supposed to be my sister-in-law, Vitani?"
"Yep. Kovu is your brother-in-law, buddy." Vitani remarked. "Do you still know how to hunt."
"I... I think so, but my head hurts, like a headache."
"I understand. Do you remember any of your friends?"
"Well... no." Kion bowed his head.
"Got it."
It was just then, Bunga, Beshte, Fuli, and Ono came by to see if their leader was ready for a usual patrol. "Hey Kion." said Fuli. "Ready for patrolling?"
Kion had a blank look on his face, and did he know exactly how yo respond. "Do... do I know you?" he asked
His friends all laughed and thought that he was joking. "Ah Kion, you're a card." Ono laughed while wiping a tear from his eye.
Kiara came up to them looking serious, and she began explaining to the kids: "guys, Kion has amnesia. He hit his head hard and he lost his memories."
The kids realised that if the future queen says it, then it must be true. "Are you serious?" Bunga asked.
"I swear Bunga," Kiara answered. "I am telling you the truth. You guys know I'm a terrible liar, right?"
"Oooh, good point." Fuli said. She looked at Kion and asked: "you really don't remember anything?" and she looked quite concerned.
"No. I mean, I want to remember, but I don't. I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault." Kiara said. "These things just happen. But anyway, I'm sorry guys, but I don't think he is able to patrol today."
"I'll be happy to help him out by taking his place again." Kovu said confidently.
"Oh. Well, if Kion is unable to lead us, then I guess Kovu can do it." Bunga replied.
"Yeah, he did it before." Fuli added. "I guess he can help us again. He's more powerful in fighting than Kion, minus the Roar of the Elders."
"The what?" the poor cub asked
"Well, we'll tell you later." said Kiara. "But why don't you just rest up? You should have some after that fall you had."
Kion was thinking about this, and he said: "Okay. I guess that's a good idea. I wish there was a way to fight this headache I have." he gently touched the top of his head where the tuft of red mane was, and it did hurt a little.
"Well, if you don't remember out names," said Fuli, "I'm Fuli, this is Beshte, Bunga, and Ono. Together, we were the Lion Guard. But... you don't really remember, right?"
"The.. Lion Guard?" Kion looked like he had heard it before he hit his head, and when it looked like he was regaining his memory, he said: "I'm sorry, but yeah, I don't remember."
His friends groaned at the respond, and realized that he has truly lost his memory. "Well, we understand." said Ono. "Well, come on Kovu, let's go patrol."
The future king smiled, and said: "sure thing, Ono. Till the Pride Lands end,"
"Lion Guard will defend!" the kids answered with enthusiasm. Kovu, and the guys ran off to the Pride Lands for some patrolling, and with the future king in charge of them a second time. Perhaps Kovu is a better fighter than Kion, since he is a full-grown lion and the original leader was still technically a cub. Still, Kion needed his memories recovered and needed to use the Roar of the Elders some time.
Amnesia (unless if hit in the head hard enough,) does not last forever in animals. So, everyone wasn't going to give up hope on the poor cub. Meanwhile, Kion himself was laying on the tall rock that made up the king's bed, having his chin above his arms as he was thinking things over, and wondering who he was. He was really trying to remember, but it just doesn't seem to be coming back to him.
Simba and Nala were looking on in a short distance from where their son was. "What are we going to do, Simba?" Nala asked
"Well, you heard Rafiki." Simba replied. "We need go let Kion's head heal on its own. Give him love and support and make sure he will be alright.
Zira came in the chamber, and she said: "how is he feeling?"
"Well, he's not getting hurt." Nala replied. "But I'm still worried about him "
"We're all worried about him, Nala." said Simba. "But he needs some rest and maybe it will hell heal his head faster."
"Sleep can be the best medicine." Zira said. "Perhaps you are right. I mean, take it from me, I have had amnesia before and I have had it for a long while."
"Yeah, but you didn't hit your head into a rock from rapids." Simba said.
"Good point. Say, maybe Kion can have a walk with his sister and talk to the other Pride Land inhabitants to help get his memory back."
"Zira, I think that is a good idea." Simba smiled with hope. "After he is done resting, and maybe he can visit Chikelu and Kifaru first."
