A Hylian, An Organization Member, and the Crown Prince

Chapter 1

From a tree located near the village academy, the famed Copy Ninja, Kakashi Hatake, observed the three children who were to be his new students. Initially, he hadn't thought much of them when he first read their reports; just that they would be an idiot, a fangirl, and angst incarnated. His interest had piqued hours earlier during the team selections, when he overheard a couple of the academy instructors discussing the three and how they'd apparently undergone some 'changes', and how said 'changes' had caused much surprise to the other teachers and students in their class. His curiosity now one hundred percent genuine, Kakashi decided to take advantage of his reputation for being late and spy on his potential students.

Needless to say, he no longer doubted the rumors he overheard. Rather, he thought the rumors were downplayed.

In one corner of the room sat Naruto Uzumaki, who, up until today, had been a hyperactive loudmouth who constantly played pranks to get attention. Now however, he was the complete opposite of hyperactive: the boy was sitting cross-legged on the floor, several feet away from the backboard. His attention was focused on a rectangular device in his hands that, in Kakashi's opinion, looked ancient. Setting aside his curiosity as to how Minato-Sensei's son had acquired such a device, Kakashi returned his attention to Naruto's outfit; instead of his trademark orange eyesore, Naruto was wearing a light blue tunic with white trimming on the edges, long beige pants and brown boots. Strapped to his back was a broadsword inlaid with what looked like goat horns, and an intricate purple shield with three yellow triangles and a red outline of a bird printed in its center. It wasn't just Naruto's outfit that had changed either; his blond hair, formerly spiky, was now laying flat on his head, tied back into a small ponytail.

Next was Sasuke Uchiha, who was sitting in the back of the room. His left arm was propped on the desk, with his head resting on his fist. Compared to Naruto, the young Uchiha's change wasn't as drastic, but it was still visible: his jet black hair, while still spiky, was no longer as exaggerated or messy. His clothing had also changed from a blue shirt with the Uchiha crest and white shorts to a black short-sleeved jacket, a dark grey shirt with leopard print, black trousers that extended just past his knee caps, and black buckled boots with blood red soles. Kakashi also noticed that Sasuke was wearing a black, fingerless glove on his left hand, an accessory he lacked before this change occurred.

Finally, there was Sakura Haruno, who was sitting at one of the desks closer to the front of the room, reading a thick black book. As he didn't know of her like he did Naruto or Sasuke, he couldn't compare her appearance to a previous one; nevertheless, she still looked rather strange to him. The girl was dressed in a full-length black coat with a large zipper, silver drawstrings for the hood, and a chain fastened in a loop on the coat's collarbone region. The coat's sleeves were somewhat tight fitting and bell-shaped, and the black boots the girl was wearing had slight heels to them.

Kakashi shook his head. Were the three playing a prank? He wouldn't discount the possibility if only Naruto was acting strange; however, with all three of them in the act, he wasn't sure what to think. Deciding to get things over with, the jounin left his observation spot and quickly made his way into the school and down the hall to the classroom.

When he opened the door, the three looked up from their various pastimes to gaze in his direction. Surprisingly, it was Sasuke who spoke first.

"Hey. You're our new sensei right?"

Sakura spoke next, closing her book and standing up. "You're several hours late sensei. Tardiness is a sign of a poor work ethic. As a jounin, you have to present yourself better."

Kakashi was flummoxed. Not only had Sasuke willingly spoken in a polite manner, but Sakura, who was all but described as a teacher's pet in her report, had (rightfully) called him out on his lazy demeanor. Also interesting was how Naruto, usually being the first to speak up, hadn't spoken at all, and was instead studying him with a sharp gaze.

The masked copy ninja stroked his chin thoughtfully, "Hmm… my first impression of you is: you're all quite unexpected." Chancing a minute glance at the three, Kakashi saw that none had shown any reaction to his statement. "Meet me on the academy roof in ten minutes."

Once the four had situated themselves on the rooftop, Kakashi asked his possible students to introduce themselves, half expecting them to demand he do so first. When they didn't, Kakashi instead pointed at the blond boy, indicating he should go first.

Naruto, now wearing a long green cap to go with his new outfit, straightened from where he was sitting and looked Kakashi directly in the eye.

"…"

Despite the silence, Kakashi was somehow able to understand that Naruto had introduced himself as Naruto Uzumaki, and that his hobbies included training, hunting, music, cooking, and playing on his 'sheikah slate', which the masked jounin assumed was the device Naruto was fiddling with earlier. His dislikes were those who oppressed others, and his goal was to become a hero that everyone could rely on.

Kakashi was stunned at the maturity of the boy's nonverbal answers. Beforehand, the loudmouth would screech to anyone who would listen that he would become the next Hokage. The instructor was also glad that Naruto had seemed to move on from his obsession with ramen; Kakashi liked the dish as much as the next guy, but Naruto ate so much of it, many wondered where he put it all.

Noticing that the boy's two classmates were giving small nods to indicate they understood as well, Kakashi then gestured to Sakura, who for some reason, had pulled up her hood after arriving on the roof.

"My name is Sakura Haruno," The girl began in a smooth voice, "My hobbies include playing the sitar, gardening, gazing at the moon, and getting ice cream with my friends. I dislike disloyalty, and those who treat those around them as objects instead of as people. My dream for the future is to further my research into the heart, and how it affects living creatures. Got it memorized?"

The masked jounin took a moment to collect his thoughts. Putting aside the girl's unexpected hobbies (he didn't even know what a 'sitar' was), the girl's dislike of put downs was something he felt was similar to his own dislike of those who refused to work as a team. On the other hand, her goal about studying the heart was slightly puzzling. Did that mean she wanted to become a medical ninja? It was possible, but Kakashi couldn't help but think that there was a deeper meaning to the pink-haired girl's goal.

When it was his turn to talk, Sasuke seemed to fidget slightly before responding. "I'm Sasuke Uchiha. My hobbies are fishing and playing King's Knight. I can't stand vegetables, and uh, I never really gave my future goals much thought. Maybe, to be the world's best angler, or to travel the world I guess."

Much like his teammates, Sasuke surprised the silver-haired jounin with his introduction. While the young Uchiha still carried an air of refined aloofness, it seemed he was much more willing to show his unsure and quirky side. This was a pleasant surprise; not once did the boy mention restoring his clan or killing his brother. Although, Kakashi had to wonder: what was King's Knight? Some sort of game perhaps?

After introductions were done, Kakashi discussed the genin test, and how failing it would mean the three would be sent back to the academy. He then finished by warning them not to eat breakfast in the morning before disappearing in a swirl of leaves.

The next morning, Kakashi was once again spying on the students assigned to his team. And once again, they were going against his expectations; although he expected the three to lounge around and complain, instead each was absorbed in their training activities.

Naruto and Sasuke were engaged in a light-hearted sword fight, with both demonstrating unique fighting skills. Naruto was making use of backflips to avoid Sasuke's swipes and his shield to deflect, while the Uchiha was keeping a fast pace by materializing swords out of thin air. When Kakashi looked closely, he could see multiple crystalline silhouettes surrounding Sasuke before materializing. Off to the side, Sakura was practicing with a large, elegant scythe with a light green handle and pink blade. To Kakashi's astonishment, the scythe the pink haired girl was using had suddenly been replaced by eight yellow-blue knives, which the girl clutched between her fingers and used as claws, before turning into a pair of sliver and red chakrams.

Interesting; so the three had new skills to back up their sudden change. The question was, would it help them pass his test?

Entering the training field, Kakashi cleared his throat to gain the attention of the three genin. Acknowledging the small nod from Naruto and the slightly awkward greeting from Sasuke, while ignoring Sakura's polite reprimand, Kakashi explained the concept of the test.

Once he said, "Start!" Sasuke and Sakura jumped away from the clearing, leaving only Naruto. Kakashi inwardly sighed and pulled out his book. It would seem the knucklehead still retained some impulsiveness within him after all.

At least, that's what the silver jounin thought before the blond boy sheathed his sword and shield, and unhooked his sheikah slate from the side of his belt. Kakashi barely had time to raise an eyebrow before Naruto pointed the slate at him, and he suddenly couldn't move an inch.

Getting closer to the immobilized jounin through constant rolling, Naruto pulled out a ball and chain from who-knows-where, and began swinging it overhead. Each time the ball hit Kakashi, it made a clanking sound, but the sensei remained where he was. After hitting his instructor with the heavy ball at least a dozen times, Naruto once again pointed his slate at the frozen Kakashi, who suddenly found that he could move.

In fact, he was moving backwards at approximately 150 miles per hour.

Replacing himself with a nearby log at the last second, Kakashi retreated into the woods, where he nursed his bruised belly. What on earth had Naruto just done? In all his years as an active shinobi, the copy ninja had never seen a tool that could immobilize an opponent like that! It wasn't just immobilization either; that slate of Naruto's seemed to have the property of storing momentum from physical blows until the paralysis wore off.

Unfortunately, the silver jounin didn't have anymore time to ponder the situation, as he heard a familiar voice several yards away.

"It would seem that you're a little winded there sensei."

Turning toward the voice, Kakashi saw Sakura, who then proceeded to lower her hood. "I've been doing some research since we last spoke. It would seem that you possess the sharingan, despite not being a member of the Uchiha clan. That is the reason why you hide your left eye, correct?"

Kakashi didn't have time to respond, as Sakura summoned a large weapon of some bizarre design: the weapon vaguely resembled a claymore with a white handle, a pale yellow semi-circle acting as the weapon's guard, a dull gray middle, and a pale blue, vaguely spiked circle on the top of the weapon's tip.

"I should tell you one thing Sensei," Sakura said casually, as if summoning a spiked weapon out of thin air wasn't anything out of the ordinary. "Did you know that, even if the sun is out, the moon is waiting beyond the veil of light, waiting for its debut?"

As Sakura spoke, the moon, although dimmed by the midday sun, began to appear overhead.

"In fact, you could say that, unlike the sun, the moon is always with us, gazing into our hearts; measuring the light and darkness within," As Sakura spoke, Kakashi couldn't help but notice how her pink hair, which had recently been cut into a neat, chin-length bob, was steadily lengthening and turning quite messy. When she looked up and met Kakashi's gaze, her pupils had all but disappeared, giving her an eerie resemblance to the Hyuga clan.

"THE MOON SHINES DOWN!"

At Sakura's shout, her spiked weapon split open at the top, with the spiked circle expanding and becoming two identical halves, before the dull spikes lengthened to become much more pronounced and lethal.

Letting forth a guttural cry, Sakura shot towards Kakashi at an astonishing speed. Even while injured, the copy ninja was still able to dodge her initial attack, but even he was unprepared for the pink-haired berserker to turn around and start swatting downwards at him with her spiked claymore, each blow causing immense shockwaves to the earth that began to uproot several trees.

Hoping to put some distance between them, Kakashi backtracked to the forest's edge, hoping to come up with another plan. However, it seemed Sakura was intent on stopping him, as when he was less than five feet from the exit, Sakura's claymore smashed down in front of him, forcing the copy ninja to halt. When he looked up, he saw the little menace standing on a nearby branch.

"THIS FIGHT IS OVER! I CALL ON THE MOON'S PALE LIGHT!"

Sakura's chant brought forth half a dozen copies of her claymore that floated around her, before she unceremoniously hurled them at her winded sensei.

Kakashi barely made it out of the training ground's forest before it exploded.

Jumping back several more feet, Kakashi could only watch in horrified fascination as what once was a lush, teeming forest was now a smoking crater. That girl had such power! If she was as proficient with her other weapons as she was with that odd-looking claymore, he would be in trouble if this test dragged on any longer.

As before, the silver copy ninja was forced out of his thoughts by a voice somewhere to his right.

"Roar, Zabimaru!"

Disoriented, Kakashi barely got out of the way before what appeared to be a serrated whip swiped at him. Gaining his footing and getting a closer look, the jounin realized that the 'whip' was actually a segmented blade, with each segment wider than the one preceding it. There was a sharp protrusion at the end of each segment, in case the target was just out of reach; as an example, Kakashi had gained a small nick in his arm that he barely registered.

Standing several feet away, holding the sword-whip by its hilt, was Sasuke Uchiha.

"Tch. I thought I had you," the Uchiha grumbled before reeling in the weapon he called 'Zabimaru', before dispersing it into crystalline light. "Anyway, it's nothing personal, but I gotta finish this test soon. It's almost time for that prime fishing hour."

"What?", Kakashi thought through his surprised and exhausted brain. "He has MORE up his sleeve?!"

Almost in answer to his sensei's mental question, Sasuke conjured numerous crystalline weapon outlines, all in the shape of a katana or wakizashi. The weapons circled around him for a bit before he settled on one, and materialized it. The weapon of choice was a katana with an orange hilt and a teardrop-shaped guard.

Holding the katana behind his back, Sasuke intoned, "Cry, Suzumushi."

The last thing Kakashi thought before he fell unconscious was: what on earth happened to these kids?
