"But you don't believe in heaven."
"But you do."
He moved to leave, but turned back, only to find that she was still watching him.
"Stunning."
Brennan raised an eyebrow, confused.
"You look very stunning."
A look of realization crossed her face, and she smiled. "Ah. Thanks."
"But you should've, uh…" he trailed off.
"Should've what?"
Booth looked slightly embarrassed, but continued just the same. "Worn your hair, uh, down. It looks better that way."
She nodded. "Good to know." Giving him one last smile, she turned to leave. His voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Put on your jacket. It's cold out there."
Brennan gave a quiet laugh at his protectiveness before complying. Booth watched her struggle with the coat and the purse for a moment before crossing the distance between them in a few large steps. He took the jacket from her hands and held it up for her. The look she gave him conveyed her gratitude as she turned and slipped her arm through the sleeves.
She turned back to face him, somewhat shocked by how close they were standing to each other. When he spoke, his voice was quiet. "I'll see you later, Temperance." His hand brushed her arm for a fraction of a second before he turned and left.
Brennan watched him walk away, her left hand unconsciously coming to rest on the spot where he'd touched her. After he'd disappeared from her line of sight, she pulled a small mirror from her purse. She held it up, examining her hair.
Slowly, she reached up and carefully undid her elegantly constructed ponytail.
Booth watched from his post around the corner as Brennan's hair fell loose, framing her face in sleek, brown tresses. He smirked as she left the building to catch the limo.
Her hair really did look better down.
