Author's note: Hello everyone,

Well, it is kind of strange to post a story after a 6 year-ish writer's block/pause. I feel a bit ashamed since I have also left some stories unfinished, but I'm picking up the pieces and I intend to go through them all.

I'm still into anime and manga after all these years, and discovered a lot of great series and characters. BNHA is maybe not my favorite one of them, but I find every character very interesting in his own way and I felt like trying to write about two of them, Denki Kaminari and Kyoka Jirou. I like each one of them indivually, and I like their chemistry too so here goes. I couldn't get this idea out of my head, and it is thanks to it that I'm diving again in the writing world. Maybe it was a way to vent my feelings too, who knows?

Anymay, I hope you'll enjoy this small stories, and I hope you'll forgive me if some mistakes and grammar errors bother your reading experience. I tried my best to proofread, but I know my writing can be clumsy since I'm not a native speaker.

See you around!

Disclaimer: I do not own My Hero Academia.

Hero too, I am a hero too…

A soft humming echoed in the room, along with the melody strummed slowly on an acoustic guitar, slightly calloused fingers gliding on the strings. A dissonant sound broke the harmony, followed by a disappointed grunt.
His amber gaze dropped on the textbook displayed next to him, eyes searching for the score, fingers rehearsing their placement.

"Still the same chord I'm messing..."

Straightening his back, Denki let out a loud sigh, taking in the faint orange light entering his room by the glass-door: shaking his head, he looked for his alarm clock, indicating that it was nearly time for dinner. He had been practicing for 2 hours straight without noticing, and the sudden realisation of the time made him feel a bit dizzy, like he was waking up from a trance-like state.

"Crap, I forgot the maths homework for tomorrow…" he muttered while sretching, "well, guess it will have to wait until after dinner! "

Several knocks on his door made him jump : he got up on a hurry, still gripping the guitar in his other hand.
Whoever's knocking seems pretty impatient… Maybe Iida or Koda got fed up of listening at my voice !
Preparing for another possible lecture from the class rep, Kaminari half-opened his door, his eyes falling on dark ones.
"Yo, Jamming-Whey… You're on table-setting duty tonight, remember ?"
"Ah Jirou! Guess I've forgotten about this too! Be there in a sec!", he said while fully opening the door, gesturing for her to come in.

Jirou stayed at the entrance of his room, leaning on the side of the doorframe.
"You're having a case of fried brain? Let me guess, you short-circuited by charging your phone?", she teased with a sardonic grin on her lips.
He turned his head toward her, sticking his tongue out and waving the hand holding the guitar.
"Oh my dear, a human charger like me can handle much more than that, who do you think I am?" he playfully replied, while carefully putting the guitar on its stand.
"His Majesty, the king of dorks?"

Kaminari rolled his eyes while sighing theatrically, "I just lost track of time while praticing, heck, I've even forgot about Ectoplasm assignement! Guess I'm up for a late night..."
Kyoka inwardly smiled at the way he was oh so gently putting the guitar down, double-checking if he stored it well. Despite his idotic antics, he was in a way very meticulous, especially about stuff related to art. His books and sketch material were always neatly stored, and he was very careful of everything that were leant to him. If only he could pay as much attention to his textbooks...

Her gaze focused on his bed, where the textbook she made him was still opened: the sardonic grin softened, as she thought of the last week. He was truly giving his best, and she had to admit that he had some basic knowledge. She watched him as he was tyding up his bed, putting the textbook on his night stand. A false jaded sigh escaped her lips as her signature grin returned.

"Well, if you give me a hand with Present Mic homework, I'll help you with the maths stuff..."
"For real? I already took a look at it, but you're good in English too, I doubt that I can be of any help..."
"Deal's off, then?"

Kaminari's eyes widened, his head and hands frantically going from left to right.
"No, no, no, it would be a great help ! Just wanted this to be fair: you already did a lot with the band, so you have to chill too", he said, flashing her one of his high voltage smile.
Jirou averted her eyes, careful to not blurt out what she had in mind: she felt kind of guilty that he was focused more on the band than his studies. He had been the most supportive of her hobby, and she wanted to support him too, in her own way... Even if she would not admit it out loud to him.

"If you are able to keep your focus, we might get it done faster with one and half a brain, so I'll be able to chill out too", she snarkly retorted, her eyes still looking sideways.
"Aye Aye M'am, I'll do my absolute best!" replied Denki, heading out of his room.
Kyoka followed him, poking his forehead with one of her jack as a playful "Such a dork" escaped her lips.

Fully energized by the spicy curry cooked by Bakugo, Denki met up with Kyouka in the living area, her maths and english textbooks already opened.
"Jirou-sensei, I'm in your care!" he shouted while bowing exageratly.
Kyoka snickered at his antics, while gesturing him to sit down.
"Well, first thing first, sit and focus: if you want me to chill out, we have to get it done as fast as we can, and I don't think it will be possible while laughing all the time."

He sat and inhaled deeply for a few seconds, exhaling very slowly, like if he was blowing on a candle without extinguish it. He always had trouble focusing and handling stressful situations, and he had been trying several things to get better at it. It is a side of him that he was not very proud of, but Jirou has already witnessed it during the USJ attack, and she even gave him some advice while they were reahearsing for the cultural festival.

Two breathing exercices later and they were ready to vanquish the dreadful maths homework, leaving the easiest one for later. After several desperate groans from Denki and some frustrated sighs from Kyoka, the last problem including mysterious x & y was solved.
"I think it's the first time since the beginning of the year that I have been through all the questions...", Kaminari said, his head sprawled on the table.
"Grats' Jamming-Whey, welcome to the light side of the student body... even if it's a bit to early to celebrate, we still have the English one to do."
"Yay but let me catch something to drink first", he replied, getting up and stretching his shoulders, "do you want something?"
"Nope, I'm good. You said you've already began to work on it, can I see what you've done?"
"Sure!"

She took his textbook and his answer sheet, while he was heading in the kitchen.
She giggled at the sight of a doodled Present Mic in the margin, screaming "Plus Ultraaaaaaaa!". But he seemed to have paid attention at this class, since his notes were almost as complete as hers. It always stunned her that he was able to talk about various subjects, to have a lot of cultural references but such bad grades. She often made fun of him in his Whey mode but she knew he wasn't that dumb. The answers he already wrote on his homework were proof of that, she was sure they were correct: on this point, he remained a mystery for her.

Kaminari entered the common living place with a can of iced tea in his hand, observing the concentrated look on Jirou's face. Honestly, he would still be stuck with Ectoplasma riddles if they hadn't studied together. He knew that he had a hard time putting effort on subjects that didn't appeal him, thus his desastrous results in maths and sciences. However, English and litterature were his forte, even if he wasn't the most brilliant either.

He tried, every day, really, to get better but without real success: group study sessions helped only if he was in the right state of mind, and he didn't want to rely to much on the others... Because sometimes, it hurt to be stuck in this dumbness loop. And as the class goofball, he wasn't supposed to show hurt or any displeasant feelings.
Repressing his thoughts, he took his seat in front of Kyouka, sipping his drink.

"So, what is your verdict, sensei?"
She rose her eyes and gave him a slight grin.
"Not bad, but you're only halfway through, and the mini-essay seems to be quite the challenge."
"I'm usually passing thanks to that type of exercise, though."
"Really? It's either a meh or a great result for me, it totally depends of the subject. And I have a hard time with the argumentative speech, that's not my kind of stuff."
"Time to work some of my magic, then!", he enthusiastically said, grinning from ears to ears.

And as the evening went on, they succesfully achieved the goal they had earlier: at 9.30, she was in her room chatting with Momo and the girls, while Denki was playing Mario Kart with Kirishima and Sero in the redhead's room.

"Hey, Kami, sure it's ok for you to be playing with us? You said at lunch that you were overwhelmed by homework", asked Kiri, while launching a red turtle shell at Sero, who vehemently groaned as the red-head laughed out loud.
"Hmmm? Ah yeah, no prob!", he replied while munching on a lollipop stick, "got it covered thanks to Jirou!"
A knowing grin appeared on both of his friends' face, as they exchanged a glance: Denki was so focused on the race that it went unnoticed to him.
"How's that? It's not really like her to help desperate cases...", Sero chuckled mockingly.
"Hey, that was an almost equivalent exchange of favor, since I gave her a hand in English!"
"I'm more curious about how you convinced her to help you with your homework...", Kiri asked, toughtful.

"Well, since I was practicing for the cultural festival, I kinda lost track of time to the point I had forgotten about the maths assignement and the table-serving thing, so she came to fetch me and she offered the trade Maths/English, since I had done some of the exercises", Denki shrugged while throwing the stick he was munching on in the trash can."Whooop, 3 points!", he hollered when the stick landed inside.
Kirshima raised an eyebrow, looking at Sero with a surprised look. Kaminari catched on this exchange and exclaimed, "What? Is that so surprising that I scored so easily?"
"Yeah, but I'm more stunned that you managed to help Jirou with homework, and that she was ok with spending time studying with you", replied Sero.

Kaminari had a toughtful expression while observing his friends. He didn't see why they were so surprised about this whole thing. He was seated next to Jirou in class, and their daily banter were proof that they were on friendly terms, so what whas the deal? He resisted the urge to pout at the look Sero gave him, and to the implication that he was utterly incompetent.

"First, I'm a master English speaker, so duh, I totally could help her with some things". Sero scoffed, earning a fake growl from Kaminari, who launched himself on the tape hero.

Kirishima laughed at the fake brawl happening in front of him, his tought drifting to their previous conversation. The resident Pikachu of class 1-A wasn't maybe as good in English as he pretended, but it was true that it was good at it. He often helped the Bakusquad with it.

He was more intrigued about the bond between him and the leader of the A-band: it's been a while since he observed how his friend tried to get Jirou's attention and how he spoke highly of his classmate. If there was a thing he knew about Kaminari, it was that he was always sincere. Certainly tactless and awkward, but always well-meaning and willling to bring the best out of the people he cared of. There was way more than the funny wannabe playboy facade he carried everyday in front of everyone, if people were willing to take the time to know him. Kiri got out of his thinking by Kaminari's voice, who began to speak again after he tried without success to headlock Sero, to stop his teasing.

"Second, we're friends, and we've been continuously practicing with the band: we're all pretty busy, so it was kind of logical to share the amount of work. I mean, Jirou has a lot on her plate, so it's normal to do my best with what I'm supposed to do for the band and to help with whatever I can do", he said matter-of-factly before adding with a low voice, scratching the nape of his neck, "but I have to admit that she helped me more than the other way around, maths are definitely my archenemy".
The two boys smiled a small smile: that was so a Kaminari thing to do. But this was another tease trigger that Sero couldn't ignore.

"It doesn't change the fact that she was the one to suggest that... Ara, my little Pikachu is growing so fast that he now has a crush!", he exclaimed while fake crying, setting Kirishima in a fist of laughter.
"Wait, whaaat? It's nothing like that!" Kaminari exclaimed while launching himself on Sero again in a desperate attempt to shut him up.

A loud bang echoed through the room, making the three boys freeze.
"Uh oh... Guess we have awaken the final dragon boss", Denki whispered, wincing, "Sorry mate!"
Kirishima sighed as Sero glanced at the wall between his friend's room and his explosive neighbour, an anxious expression on his face.
"Oï, you'd better shut the fuck up or I'll atomize you all!", Bakugou roared, banging another time on the wall with force. Hanta and Denki took it at their cue to leave, with an apologetic smile on their faces, while Eijirou shouted an apology for disturbing the blond's sleep, promising to make it up for it by doing some of Bakugou's chores as payback. A muffled "You'd better not forget it, Shitty Hair!" came through their shared wall, and Kirishima knew he was out of this tough spot... for now.
He ought to have a small chat with the chaos bringers that led to this mess: he wouldn't be manly of them to run from their responsibilities, right?
