The repercussions of Hosu are revealed and while Midoriya is safe from the consequences Ida and Todoroki are not. Elsewhere Mineta's lack of sleep has finally caught up to him, and dark forces are starting to stir once again.

Chapter 6 - Fallout

Hosu: Hospital Day 3 (10:30 PM)

"So how's the boy?"

"Midoriya's injuries were fairly minor, nothing that couldn't be treated on scene," Hawks smiled, "He did fairly good, the surprising thing was that Nomu attempting to abduct him, any ID on who it was originally?"

"No, not yet, good job on saving the kid though, you were in a bad situation having to deal with a bunch of Nomu..."

"I didn't save him."

"Well who did?"

"Stain," Hawks answered nonchalantly.

"What? Why would... Oh his declaration about fake heroes."

"Yeah, apparently the Hero Killer thinks Deku is someone worth keeping alive," Hawks grimaced, "I had to catch Rocky as he nearly fell to his death."

"What happened?"

"Well, someone attacked Rocky as he flew in on his standard take down attack, blinded him," Hawks answered, "ironically, Stain chose to spare him at that moment and went for an attack that knocked him out. When he came to those three boys had taken down Stain, then the Nomu showed up and he tried to get elevation to pursue, when Stain intervened and caught it instead, then he fell because he lost his balance. Stain's disabling attack did some damage."

"What's the prognosis?"

"His vision is extremely blurry right now, though doctors expect him to make a recovery, though that initial attack on his vision did a real number on him. He's lucky it didn't cause permanent damage. Then he got a bad concussion to top it off, though I suppose it is better than getting his head lopped off..."

"I see," as irritating as he had been for her, she really didn't want him dead, irritating was better than corrupt, "So how long will he be out of commission?"

"The rest of the week," Hawks commented, "That and they want him grounded for another week, which means desk duty."

"Or he can guest teach at U.A..."

"That's a possibility," Hawks admitted, "You hear about what happened to the guy that killed the student..."

"Yes, it would seem that someone was displeased in who he killed..."

"If that boy was in fact the traitor, then someone was really ticked about the death of their spy... However, someone was trying to spy on us in that hallway at U.A., are you sure the cameras didn't record anything?"

"Yes, Nezu has gone over everything, I've never seen him that frustrated."

"So any word on the fallout over the Hero Killer?"

"Due to Nighteye vouching for Midoriya and having foreseen the event, your apprentice is not in any trouble for this," she commented, "It will make it harder to sweep under the rug for the other two though."

"I don't think that will be a problem," Hawks commented, "Midoriya doesn't really like being the center of attention, as you know he can be incredibly shy."

Okinawa (On way back from fashion showing/charity event): 10:40 PM

Minoru Mineta was asleep against Nejire on the train. At first albeit briefly, Ryukyu and Nejire thought he was pulling something perverted, but they quickly realized he'd completely passed out. "He's cute when he's acting like this but jeez," Nejire commented.

"Tsuyu, no..." Mineta whimpered and started breathing heavily, almost panicked. Ryukyu shook him awake, "Grape Shot wake up... MINETA!"

"What's happening, where's?" Mineta's face went from looking panicked to looking embarrassed, "Why are you two staring at me like that?"

"You had fallen asleep," answered Nejire, "On me..." Mineta gulped, his face turning ghost pale.

"Look I'm sorry, I didn't mean..."

"We know Mineta, your quirk hasn't been as effective lately either, has it?" Ryukyu sighed as the small boy nodded, "Looks like you've been having nightmares too, about what?"

"USJ."

"Okay it's been a really long day for you," Ryukyu commented, "Mineta have you seen anyone regarding your PTSD?"

"N-no, why?" Mineta's eyes grew wide, "I-I don't want to be benched, I can keep..." He was well aware of the potential stigma that could be associated with him if it was discovered he was in therapy, particularly over something that should be part of the job.

"Relax, when we get back, I have some herbal tea that will help you sleep," Ryukyu promised, "Then tomorrow we can talk about what all happened, I know your quirk depends on your emotional state, so you do need people to talk to."

True to her word once they got back and he got changed out of his hero costume, the tea put him out like a light. "Did you use too many sleeping pills?" asked Nejire as Ryukyu carried the passed out Mineta, to the room where he was sleeping during the internship.

"Sleeping pills? Given his height and weight, I'm not a doctor so that'd be dangerous. No, it was just the tea," Ryukyu commented, "I promised it would put him to sleep and boy does he need it, I don't think he's really slept a single day he's been here." She laid him down and tucked him in, "I don't expect him to wake up till tomorrow evening..." She closed the door,

"Midnight you should have put the kid in therapy," she muttered.

Hosu General Hospital: Day 4 (8:50 AM)

Todoroki, Native, Rocky, and Ida were all laid up in the same room, and Ida reflected on what happened that night upon waking up. 'I really screwed up,' he thought, 'I tried to be just like my brother and everything just went so wrong.' The door opened and in came Midoriya and Tokoyami. Hawks had apparently managed to flag someone to get Midoriya's suit fixed in record time, because the cuts in the suit were gone. "Hello Midoriya," said Ida bracing for a scathing verbal beat-down but instead Midoriya walked over to a stool to sit down while Tokoyami elected to stand off to the side leaning against a wall.

For a moment there was a heavy silence, until Midoriya finally began talking. "Hey Ida, I wanted to say that I'm not exactly happy with what you did, but I understand why," began Midoriya fishing for words, "Stain crippled your brother, I get that, but you acted out of revenge. What's worse, Todoroki got dragged into this..."

"I got where you were from your cell phone Midoriya," interrupted Shoto calmly.

"That's cause that was his general distress beacon if we stumbled across the Hero Killer while looking for Ida, so as many heroes as possible could converge on the location as quickly as possible," Rocky commented weakly from his bed, "Please no yelling my head hurts."

"Midoriya and I talked with Hawks last night regarding the potential legal implications of all of this," Tokoyami calmly jumped in, "Midoriya is in the clear, given the learner's permit and he was carrying out orders to find Ida. If it weren't for the permits both Midoriya and I would be in serious trouble for our actions last night instead of getting commended, regardless of how many people were saved."

"You might have gotten off, concerning it is debatable as to whether or not the Nomu are still people."

"That is not the point," Tokoyami commented.

"The point is the actions you took while leading to a positive outcome still could result in severe consequences," a man with a dog head walked into the room along with Manual and Hawks.

"This is the chief of police, Kenji Tsuragamae," said Hawks. Midoriya didn't have much of a reaction since they'd already met.

"Woof! Of the three of you, only one of you had the legal authority to use his quirk," the chief sighed, "When quirks first appeared it led to all kinds of issues and it was decided police would not use these powers, thus the profession of "Hero," came into being. This was heavily criticized but eventually accepted because they acted within the law, and in a moral fashion, woof! Of the three of you, only one of you had the permission of the police and powers that be..."

"You mean Ida should have just let..."

"Todoroki calm down and hear the chief out," demanded Hawks.

"Given, that we managed to suppress most of the footage of the incident, and can sweep this under the rug, we can say Endeavor took down the Hero Killer," the Chief stated, "Or we can give the three of you credit, and the three of you would be publicly lauded, but two of you would also suffer serious consequences."

"Endeavor can have the credit," Midoriya commented, "It's enough for me to know that people are safe."

"That isn't fair to you, Midoriya," objected Todoroki, "my dad shouldn't be getting the praise for this one."

"Well technically we were going to say Midoriya ended up in the stumbling onto the scene, before Endeavor and managed to hold his own long enough for Endeavor to get there," Hawks interjected, "Credit would still go to your dad, but Midoriya would still get recognition."

"I really don't care about..."

"Midoriya, you're not very good at deception, and this way you can tell the truth without giving away what actually happened," Hawks stated, "Fact of the matter is that the footage of Stain rescuing you did end up out in the open, so we had to let out the fact that Midoriya fought him until he got snatched by the Nomu. Then Stain elected to save you, only to end up in a fight with Endeavor whom ultimately took him down."

"I don't really want any credit though..."

The Chief chuckled at that, "It's rare to see a hero that isn't interested in recognition, woof! You have a good protege. Now that the lecture is over, I can unofficially thank you for your service." After that the chief left.

"He could have just led with that," said Todoroki.

"No, he couldn't," Hawks stated, "I understand why you didn't want any recognition at all."

"But..."

"Just listen, Stain is going to end up with disciples, he has a charisma about him and that draws people to his ideology like moths to a flame. Stain isn't entirely wrong either, there are quite a few heroes that should be in jail." He shot a glance at Shoto, "No, your father isn't one of them, I know how your fire quirk works and your fire resistance isn't at the level it should be for someone your age. That is because you refused to use it for so many years, that is downright dangerous because your quirk has grown more powerful and now your body has to play catch-up. Midoriya here has a similar problem, but unlike you, Midoriya actually has a legitimate excuse for his problem, he suffered from Delayed Quirk Manifestation Syndrome, you were just being an idiot." Ignoring Shoto's glare, he turned his attention back to Midoriya, "Ordinarily the fact you were involved in his take-down would make you target numero uno, however with Stain going out of his way to save you like that changes things," Hawks grinned, "The video showed you down, but Stain had no interest in taking you down, he protected you. That means that any potential followers of his ideology will try to avoid seriously injuring you, because Stain recognized you as someone special."

"If you say so, I'm really not that special," Midoriya shrugged, "I just did what anyone else would do."

"Midoriya, credit should have gone to you," said Ida.

"It's a good thing he isn't jumping at getting credit for both Todoroki's and your sake," Hawks interjected, "I don't want Endeavor-sama's youngest son dragged through the mud, because of the antics of a classmate." The youngest Todoroki opened his mouth to object but hesitated as Hawks held up his hand, "People handle grief in different ways kid, trust me in this when I say your dad is really bad at handling it."

Ida looked really ashamed of himself, "I should probably withdraw from the hero course, I..."

"Don't you dare!" Rocky spat. "Rocky calm down, I know how hurt you are," Hawks admonished him.

"Ida, you screwed up," admonished Midoriya, "However, the worst thing you can do is give up! You can either fall apart or learn from your mistakes. You are not your brother, even if you take up the same hero name, that's not the important. The important thing is you had your priorities wrong, just focus on doing the right thing, that's what your brother would want."

"This also falls on us mentors for doing a poor job," said Manual, "I hope you learned your lesson Ida."

"I intend for my left hand to serve as a reminder," answered Ida.

"What?" asked Midoriya.

"The doctors said I have nerve damage which limits feeling and movement in my left hand, they believe it could be largely fixed with a nerve transplant, but until I've become a hero, it will serve as a remind," Ida explained.

"So Rocky, you're going to be stuck here the rest of the week?" Hawks asked.

"Well at least for today and part of tomorrow, I don't know, bad company, the food sucks..."

"I get it," said Hawks, "Got a job for you when you're out."

"Okay? What is it?"

"I'll tell you when you're out," Hawks and Manual started walking out the door, "Come on you two."

"Y-yes sir!"

"You don't have to be so formal..."

"S-sorry!"

'Man we've really got to work on your shyness,' Hawks thought.

Hawk's Hero Agency: 2:00 PM

Hawks, Midoriya, and Tokoyami were sitting around eating a late lunch in the lounge. "Sir, I don't get this, shouldn't we be on patrol?"

"Midoriya, we just got back from an extended assignment, unless there is an emergency you should take time to recover from it," explained Hawks, "You have to have a balance or you find it will eat away at you. Plus this isn't fun and games."

"Then why the gaming consoles over there?" asked Tokoyami.

"That's for fun time, but we're not crashing for games at the moment," Hawks explained, "You see some heroes can't be out in certain weather. For instance, Rocky and I are useless in extremely bad weather, while some of my other sidekicks are at their best. Additionally there are times we all need to unwind. Though you wouldn't believe the number of times we've had to drop everything due to an emergency. Anyways, we're still working," he lifted up a folder and set it on the table, opening it for the three of them to see.

"Wait are these photos of the stuff from our stakeout?" Midoriya asked.

"Yup," Hawks commented then his phone started ringing, "Why is Aizawa calling me?" he muttered, "Hello?"

"What's this I hear about you having my students go after the Hero Killer?"

"I didn't send him after the Hero Killer, I sent him to look for a missing person and he stumbled onto the Hero Killer."

"He shouldn't be engaging in..."

"He has a learner's permit, it was well within the law," Hawks assured Aizawa, "Midoriya is fine, he came away with minor injuries that were treated on site. Two of your other students didn't fair as well though."

"Let me guess, Ida was one of them..."

"Yup," said Hawks nonchalantly.

"The other is Todoroki..."

"Wow are you psychic?" Hawks was sounding so nonchalant about the phone call that both boys had to struggle to keep from cracking up.

"No, given Endeavor supposedly took down the Hero Killer, it was fairly obvious, where were you and Rocky?"

"I was busy taking on a Nomu along with Tokoyami. As for Rocky, well he got taken down early, he's still in the hospital."

"I see..." The was some talking in the background, "No All Might, Midoriya is fine, there is no reason to boot Hawks into the stratosphere."

"Okay, I'm going to get back to eating now, bye..." Hawks hung up as Midoriya was looking at the shipping manifests. "Okay where were we?"

Ryukyu's Hero Agency: (Day 4) 7:30 PM

"I'm up, I'm up!" a panicked Mineta scrambled down the stairs, "I'm sorry I'm late..."

"It's 7:30 PM at night," Ryukyu commented.

"I'm so sorry!"

"Don't worry about it, we wanted you to sleep," the Dragon Hero assured him.

"Where's Neijire?"

"Picking up the carry out order," she replied gestured to a chair, "I think we need to talk."

"About what?" Mineta asked sitting on the chair as directed.

"About your nightmares," she replied, "I know the stigma about seeing therapists, so I guess I'm the next best thing."

"Well you already know about the situation with my mother and how I got moved to the Midoriya residence for the time being," he started, "No they haven't done anything bad to me, the nightmares started not long after USJ." He slowly recounted what had happened in the flood zone and the resulting death of one hero student, then proceeded to talk about how Asui and Jirou got hurt. How the lead villain had commented he wasn't even worth killing. He started breaking down, "I felt so angry, yet so helpless, Tsuyu could have been killed. I'm just a pathetic..."

"Minoru, you're still a kid, you're a 1st year student, hell you just started your classes," Ryukyu interrupted.

"What?" the boy trembled while looking up at her, tears still running down his face.

"I heard about the match you had where you went toe to toe against the younger brother of Ingenium, a boy that had serious training with his quirk and various other skills, starting from when he was only four. You beat him, that was before USJ," she explained, "I didn't just pick you up just for your abilities with fashion design. You were put in a position that you were out of your depth, I couldn't have handled it much better when I was your age."

"You mean it?"

"Of course I mean it, I think the villain underestimated you, don't make the assumption that they will make the same mistake again, given you placed 4th in Sports Festival. We had to pull you from the operation because it looked like things would get combat intensive and without a provisional license, you could have gotten in real trouble," she sighed, "It sucks because there were some situations where your quirk would have helped immensely. You're a genius, quite literally given you won that chess tournament some years ago, you can be incredibly funny, you're kindhearted, you're also somewhat of a pervert, but we're working on that, good job keeping that in check." Mineta chuckled at that comment. "The gymnastic training is a good start, but your greatest weapon is your mind. Don't sell yourself short. I'm going to start having you work on calming exercises, that should help you quite a bit."

"Thank you."

"You don't have to thank me, when you're motivated you are a very hard worker, and you do have the makings of a hero. Hell if that showboat, Mt. Lady can make it, so can you."

Bar: (Day 4) 7:45 PM

"So all that destruction, and all they can talk about is Stain!" Tomura Shigaraki was furious, "and the way he threatened me over All Might's love child!"

Flashback:

"And here I was starting to lose respect for All Might, then I discover why," Stain snarled with a knife at Tomura's throat, "It's because scum like you would target his kid the instant people found out about him, mark my words you harm so much as a hair on the boy's head and I WILL TAKE YOUR HEAD!"

Present:

"I would advise not going at the boy directly," came All for One's voice from the television, "Stain has followers now, and while they can be useful to the cause, those followers will not cooperate with harming the boy, especially with the video of him being saved by Stain, "Besides you know about the setback USJ caused."

"It did give us a spy though," Tomura pointed out, "One that doesn't even know what they're doing."

"True," All for One commented, "If you're going to target the woman, you must be sure it is successful and it can't be traced back to you at this time."

"Or what if we just let things take their course," Tomura smiled.

"Oh?"

"If I've made the connection, then others have as well, and All Might has plenty of enemies, heck even just a random fame seeking moron could target them."

"You do realize we don't have confirmation that he is even related to All Might, aside from being his protege," Kurogiri finally spoke up.

"True, his quirk could just be similar, but it doesn't matter, he's obviously close to All Might, and if he can't be targeted directly, and it can't be traced back to me, let someone else whom has an ax to grind do it."

"I have someone that may be interested, though he currently isn't in Japan," All for One admitted, "He is planning for a different operation, but this would be simple enough even with HPSC agents watching her."

"Have his fake father killed too," Tomura suggested, "Leave the boy all alone."

"Also simple enough, I think it is easily do-able, let me handle the logistics of this one Tomura, the further you are from this the better."

"Right, so Stain's followers won't be out for my blood," Tomura shrugged, "Not as enjoyable, but it still accomplishes the objective."

Journal:

The rest of that week's internship was fairly uneventful. There were a few quiet patrols and we got to meet some of Hawk's other sidekicks. Hawks actually had the two of us study for our midterms, saying it was best if Tokoyami and I lay low and make sure to keep our grades up. It made sense given that our records would reflect on Hawks. Rocky made it back to the agency the day we left to head back to U.A. He still couldn't do strenuous activities but he could at least man the office, knowing him, he'd be back to work in under 48 hours on the account of going stir crazy. Little did we know was going to happen in coming weeks, the calm before the storm, the day... - Izuku Midoriya

Notes:

Figured wouldn't much would happen in the rest of the internship arc after Stain.

Dark times are ahead for Izuku Midoriya.
