Chapter 7: A Guest Teacher's First Day Part 1 / Underground Mall Arkham Style Part 1

It was the first day back at classes and while Midoriya thought Bakugo's hair was pretty funny. He thankfully managed to keep a straight face even when Bakugo blew his top.

"Hey didn't you take on Stain long enough for Endeavor to get there?" asked Kaminari, "Man working under Hawks musta rocked."

"Taking on Stain wasn't exactly fun, I was just kind of lucky Rocky managed to show up and delay things long enough for his quirk to wear off?"

"Huh?"

"Blood type, the duration of Stain's quirk depends on blood type, since I have O negative, I have the shortest duration for his quirk's effectiveness," Midoriya commented, "Then, I ended up getting snatched by a Nomu in the midst of all of that and Stain was the one to rescue me go figure..."

"Well his declaration was really cool..."

"Kaminari..."

"Huh?"

"While some of his ideals make sense, he went about it the wrong way," replied Izuku, "He targeted heroes that were good people, so that shouldn't be praised. Also it's kind of tacky to praise the guy that crippled a classmate's brother don't you think?" Kaminari went pale at that comment.

"Thank you Midoriya," said Ida. Midoriya just shrugged in response.

"Dude, you just can't go anywhere without mayhem occurring can you?" Mineta shook his head, "Though at least you made it out okay." The kids were getting to their seats when Aizawa walked in.

"Good, people got to their seats in time, first we're going to have a bit of a discussion regarding an incident in Hosu. As most of you are aware Midoriya and Tokoyami were engaged in activity that would ordinarily have resulted in severe disciplinary repercussions possibly expulsion, except for a loophole their mentor took advantage of by getting them Learner's Permits as they started the internship. So I don't want anyone getting the idea to copy their behavior because that would be vigilantism. There are certain limits on a Learner's Permit, that a Provisional License doesn't have, and certain limits a provisional license has that a full Pro Hero License does not have."

Midoriya knew Bakugo was steamed over this, 'Oh great that's just what I need this morning, Kacchan losing his temper.'

"Midoriya can you explain why your actions in Hosu were within the bounds of the permit," Aizawa was giving an order while making it sound like a question.

"Yes sensei, it is because I was actually looking for a missing person when I stumbled onto the Hero Killer and an actual attempted murder in progress. I was also coordinating with one of Hawks' sidekicks at the time," Midoriya answered, "Only times I could take offensive action is if people's lives are under immediate threat of imminent bodily harm or death, or at the direction of Hawks or a sidekick that was put in charge of me, or another pro-Hero that Hawks put in charge of me. It also gives me the authorization to use my quirk if I'm attacked, but I'm not supposed to engage in Hero related activities without direction from a valid authority otherwise. That means I cannot intervene to catch a robber or initiate pursuit of a fleeing suspect without the aforementioned preconditions being met."

"That pretty much sums it up," Aizawa stated, "I wasn't even aware that the Learner's Permits were still legal, until your mentor mentioned it to me in the phone call and then the Principal then informed me that Hawks was right. As I mentioned, they have restrictions that a provisional license does not have. This also means you won't have to compete with them to get your provisional licenses, since they should be getting their provisional licenses after the midterm exams..."

"WHAT!" Bakugo exploded at that, "What the fuck Deku!?"

'And there he goes,' Midoriya sighed inwardly trying desperately to come up with a way to calm Bakugo down.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" came a familiar voice and sure enough there was face he had expected to still be in the hospital, "Hawks didn't choose them as apprentices just based on combat ability alone. If that were the case Bakugo, he would have requested you instead of Tokoyami. In fact that's the lesson I'm here to teach today, while All Might gets to observe."

"Okay so who's the runt?" Bakugo was distracted from blowing up at Midoriya by the newcomer.

"Meet Keito Kurinsumi, hero name Rocky," stated Aizawa, "He's a U.A. alumni and a sidekick of Hawks, prior to that he interned under Ingenium. He specializes in high mobility operations, as well as recon, hostage rescue, and logistics."

"As you can tell from my size and body weight, I'm not exactly good at taking on villains in a straight up fight."

"Awww, he's so cute!" Hagakure commented.

"Okay I can see why the midget doesn't specialize in combat..."

"I never said I didn't specialize in combat," Rocky grinned maliciously showing off his teeth, "My quirk is Flying Squirrel, I can do pretty much anything a flying squirrel can do, my elder sister has the same quirk, but I also got more of the looks of a squirrel to top it off, and well she's taller... One thing people overlook is that squirrels have a nickname in certain parts of the United States, 'Buzzsaws with a tail', though I don't use my teeth for combat. When it comes to combat I specialize in ambushing and silent take-downs."

"That doesn't sound manly..." Kirishima commented, "that just sounds cowardly."

"Well consider you have a hostage situation and there are people with guns, or powerful quirks like loud mouth," Rocky shrugged as Bakugo shouted angrily. "That's your first mistake," he commented, "You're not letting your guard down as bad as most people would, but you are doing it. Anyways, in that situation you don't want a straight forward approach you want to quietly pick off the villains one at a time. Preferably when you have the villains focusing their attention on someone like Explosion boy. Your teacher goes by the same playbook when working with Present Mic. Okay folks suit up and meet me at Ground Beta."

Ground Beta: (Above Underground Mall)

"Okay folks, the bulk of you are playing villains, you are currently taking hostages and there are going to be a team of 5 heroes verses the rest of you," Rocky grinned, "You will have capture tape, handcuffs, etc. rendering your target unconscious is also a valid option, but no killing or permanent injuries ..."

"Excuse me, but I have a question?" Who are the the teams going to be and what is the objectives of this exercise?" Ida asked doing his trademark chopping motion.

"That's two, but both are valid," Rocky explained, "I'm not going to let the Hero team have the human equipment factory, because it would make things just too unfair, especially since she is the class representative and Midoriya is Vice Rep. I was tempted to have Midoriya and Tokoyami sit this out because they have an unfair advantage, but I figured the three other heroes would need two people with experience for this demonstration."

"Wait why are those two on the Hero team?" whined Kaminari.

"Because they've run this kind of an op before and know some of the obvious potential pitfalls," Rocky said in a deadpan tone, "be grateful it isn't me. Also remember folks this is underground, and while the place has been reinforced, you don't want to go too wild."

Tokoyami and Midoriya were discussing among themselves as to who they wanted on the team. "We want someone that can provide recon, someone that can get into tight places, and chorale people, and someone that can focus attention elsewhere, they also have to be able to keep Dark Shadow under control..."

"Agreed," said Tokoyami in a low voice, "The recon pick should probably be Jiro, she's smaller than Shoji and Koda wouldn't be able to use animals." Midoriya nodded, "That makes our infiltration person either Mineta or Hagakure, though I'm leaning Mineta for what I have in mind. Then the final person should be Kacchan."

"What?"

"He has better fine control of his quirk and with his gear, he can go toe to toe with Todoroki, we need someone who can be really loud when they want to be, for what I have in mind you and he would be our big guns. Also, we can predict each other too easily, if he's on the villain team it's going to end up being Kacchan versus me and the entire operation would go sideways." At this Tokoyami nodded.

"So do you guys have the three? If not I'll pick at random."

"We do and it was a tough series of choices," said Midoriya, "Jiro, Mineta, and Kacchan."

"You sure, remember they have to be on site, so you can't have someone just sitting topside and providing recon." Both boys nodded. "Okay villains, you get a ten minute head start, this exercise is over when it's over so you have the rest of the day. Don't worry you'll get to watch Class 1-B flail about tomorrow, or they could swallow their pride and request help from some class members of 1-A, they won't get to see how you did till the day after."

Hero Side Plan of Attack:

"Okay listen up," Midoriya started.

"Don't tell me what to do nerd!"

"Just shut up and let him talk, if you see a problem with what he's come up with then voice your objections," Mineta interjected, "They had to deal with this kind of operation in real life, and I'm guessing it went off the rails."

"It did," Tokoyami stated.

"Someone likely had the ability to see heat or was just able to see in the dark, like squirrel boy. Can those goggles you two are wearing do that?" asked Bakugo.

"No," Tokoyami replied, "They weren't going to get us the fancier goggles until we had licenses."

"So we have to hit them hard and fast," Bakugo directed, "before they can fortify."

"Or we can just go around it," Midoriya grinned, "We at least have access to the layout of the mall, we aren't allowed to cut the feeds for the teachers, but we could cut main power to the mall..."

"Oh I get it, there's a sporting good store here on the first floor," Mineta pointed to the location on the map. They should have some thermal goggles and batteries, if not they would have stuff we could use to create fake heat signatures."

Bakugo was considering the options, "Problem I'm seeing is the choke points to get there."

"Jiro can you hear breathing?"

"If I'm close enough, why?"

"Ears and the runt will raid the sporting goods, Deku you are going with them as back-up in case it's a trap, four-eyes wouldn't be able to figure this out, but ponytail could," Bakugo ordered, "I have to go with Bird face over here, I would prefer to be the one backing them up in case there is any other handy gear that would be of use, but I'm the one that will have to keep his quirk in check. After you get enough batteries, goggles, and hopefully re-breathers, for everyone, we meet up and distribute them. Then next step will be to kill the lights, but we'll discuss that once we have our first objective."

"Re-breathers?"

"In case of a gas attack," Midoriya explained, to which Bakugo nodded. "Though I don't think that'd be likely underground, the problem would be ventilation the lower we go, particularly with main power cut off."

"Which also limits Icy-Hot's quirk usage if we cut the power," Bakugo finished.

"So how do we get in?" asked Jiro.

"The air vents," Bakugo, Midoriya, and Mineta answered at the exact same time.

"One final thing," Midoriya stated, "Remember about Shinso's quirk, until he's out of the picture, use hand signals as much as possible, his quirk doesn't work through electronic devices though. Good luck everyone and good hunting." At this Bakugo grinned ferally. Now it was down to checking their gear and waiting.

Villain Side Plan of Defense:

"Okay this is bad, they have Bakugo," Kaminari whined.

"This is supposed to be stealth oriented, why didn't they choose me?" complained Hagakure angrily.

'Is it cause they need Mineta for something?' Yaoyorozu wondered, 'It could be they plan to kill the lights, though we would still have an advantage...'

"We should guard the stairs and cut power to the elevators," Ida stated definitively, his costume was still out for repairs.

"Did anyone see a sporting good store?" asked Yaoyorozu.

"Huh, why would that be important?"

"Night-vision goggles!" Kirishima shouted excitedly, "that's why they wanted Mineta!"

"I saw one on the first floor, another on the second, didn't see one on the third, and there should be one on this floor," stated Kaminari helpfully.

"We won't be able to secure the first floor one in time not and fortify elsewhere if they get past that floor," Yaoyorozu stated after some thought, "Kaminari, you and Ida bring back as many night-vision goggles and batteries that you can find. Todoroki, can you ice up the Elevator Shafts after they get back?"

"On it."

"What about the ventilation shafts?" Hagakure commented.

"Do you want to suffocate?" Mina asked incredulously.

"Kaminari?"

"Yeah?"

"Add walkie talkies to your shopping list."

"Already way ahead of you on that, let's go Ida."

"I don't get why she put you in charge given your grades?" Ida commented.

"Do you know your way around sporting goods stores?" asked Kaminari in a deadpan tone.

"Well no?"

"Well there's your answer," Kaminari said definitively to which Ida had to acknowledge his teammate had a point.

"Ojiro when they get back here, I want you and Kirishima to start rounding up 'hostages.'

"Koda can you?"

"No animals," Shoji replied helpfully as the animal speaker gestured.

"Okay Koda you and Shoji are working together, no scratch that I want Shoji with me. Shinso, you and Sero will be working together," she stated.

"Works for me, though I don't get why Midoriya didn't pick me..."

"I do, Bakugo is their noise maker, if Todoroki wasn't on the field, he would have picked you instead of Bakugo."

After a little waiting Kaminari and Ida made it back. "Okay, here are the grouping and objectives for your group:"

Todoroki / Ashido - Elevator shafts then patrolling the 2nd floor.
Ojiro / Kirishima - tracking down and securing hostages
Kaminari / Ida - 5th floor patrol but be ready support other floors
Koda / Sato - 6th floor, guarding hostages and backup batteries
Shinso / Sero - 3rd floor on standby
Shoji / Yaoyorozu - 4th floor
Uraraka / Asui - 2nd floor tracking down and securing hostages
Hagakure - solo / tailing hero team and providing intel

"One last thing," Yaoyorozu stated, "Shinso be careful, your quirk will likely not work on Tokoyami and Midoriya."

"I can understand Tokoyami, but why Midoriya?"

"It's just his quirk can be rather weird, but it's more complicated than just a strength enhancement."

"So there is a mental component?"

"I guess," Yaoyorozu couldn't go into more detail, but she couldn't let her teammate go in blind either.

The villain teams arrived at their locations as a voice came out over the mall loud speakers: "Okay heroes you may begin!"

Teacher's station:

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" asked Toshinori Yagi.

"It was the only way we could simulate a night ops while it isn't at night," Rocky commented, "Also it makes the point to the heavy hitters that there are times they have to be careful with using their quirk. I don't get why he chose Bakugo given that boy's attitude and quirk."

"I agree, Shinso would have been a wiser choice," Aizawa commented, "As would Hagakure over Mineta."

"Nah, I think I get it," Hawks grinned, "The villains can't afford to block off ventilation shafts, so with Jirou on the Hero team, so Mineta essentially has free access to a lot of the building. They also needed either Todoroki or Bakugo to help reign in Dark Shadow, the last person was more of the wild card, but they went with someone that can register locations by sound waves." They watched Mineta drop into the sporting goods store on the first floor almost like a cat, and look at a particular aisle and started down it ignoring the goggles for a second. "Wow looks like we have a budding gymnast on the team," Hawks complimented.

Sporting Goods Store First Floor:

"Mineta the goggles are over here," hissed Jiro as Midoriya dropped down.

"I just hit the jackpot," Mineta replied smirking as Midoriya dropped down to the floor.

"What do you mean..." Midoriya's eyes went wide, "grab 5 pairs and as many batteries as you can, Jiro and I will get the goggles and re-breathers, then we meet up with Tokoyami and Bakugo."

Mineta started pulling the noise cancelling headphones. "I don't get it," said Jiro.

"They're electronic, and any noise we hear will hopefully only be heard through those microphones and speakers in the headset, if Shinso's voice is heard through those, the electronics will cancel out his quirk, and it will give us the effect of having acute hearing otherwise, except for loud noises."

Teacher's Station:

"See what I mean," Hawks commented, "They picked Jiro probably so the villains team wouldn't have that extremely acute hearing of hers."

"How did he..." Aizawa commented, "Crap, how did he know about the limitations of Shinso's quirk..."

"Don't tell me you underestimated, your class's walking quirk encyclopedia..." said Hawks as they watched the Hero team meet up and distribute the gear.

1st Floor By Elevators:

"So which of you grabbed these headsets," Bakugo asked.

"I did," answered Mineta hesitantly.

"Good call, Runt."

"So how's it look?" asked Midoriya as Mineta started putting batteries into the goggles grumbling until he found the right batteries.

"Not good, they've walled off the elevator shaft with ice," commented Dark Shadow.

"We could blast through it," suggested Jiro.

"No, this can work for us," said Midoriya as Mineta powered up a pair of goggles and put them on.

"Cool these thermal goggles are amazing, I can still see you guy's normally you just glow slightly from your body heat, it would be a really cool addition to my costume... We got company!"

'Oh crap!' Hagakure thought as she tried to escape by got stuck by one of Mineta's hairballs, Jiro did the honors of wrapping the capture tape around her."

"Hagakure has been captured by Jiro with an assist by Mineta!" came a voice over the speaker above their heads.

"And I was in full stealth mode too!" Hagakure pouted, "Mineta you perv!"

"Do you want to be stuck there for several hours or not?" Mineta asked lifting up his goggles, while working on getting her unstuck from the floor, "There." While what he had seen from the thermal goggles was the silhouette of a very attractive body, Hagakure's attitude towards him, was really starting to annoy him. Plus his friend needed him to be a good teammate at the moment. They waited until she had left then went back to their planning.

"Well they can't watch all the stairwells," Midoriya pointed out.

"They don't have to, they can ice the ones they aren't watching and not all of us can fit in the vents," Bakugo commented.

"What about the dumb waiters?" Mineta asked.

"She'd think of that," Bakugo stated, "If it were anyone else on their team leading them, they'd miss it, but not her. Not a bad idea though." Midoriya could tell Bakugo wanted to charge in full throttle, but he was being careful because they were underground and he didn't want a cave in, he also understood how methodical Yaoyorozu could be.

"I can take out the main power junction for the mall from the first floor by throwing the cutoff switch, but they'd still have backup power," Mineta offered.

"Do it," said Bakugo, "It will also cut the fans that you have to watch out for in the ducts.

"After we do that, we can check if the dumbwaiters can be manually operated, cause that restaurant goes from the first floor all the way to the third. We should send Jiro and Mineta down as far as they can having Jiro search for people as they go," Midoriya commented, "if the way is clear, I'll head down next, if not we pull them up and go a different route. Meanwhile Bakugo and Tokoyami should try to make it look like we plan to use the elevator shafts." The lights flickered as he said that and the emergency lights came on to replace the main lighting. A few minutes later Mineta came back.

"Okay that's done, I've been thinking maybe we should trap the main stairs..."

"That might be a bad idea," Bakugo commented, "we don't have to take the main stairs back up anyways, but the traps could catch people we already eliminated. Did that sports good store have any two way radios?"

"Just the cheap kind, not the kind that would allow us to communicate between floors, too much metal and concrete."

"Runt, I've got a job for you," said Bakugo, "I want you to climb down to the lowest floor and figure out where the hostages are being put. Ears you go with him. The Octopus will be one of the guards. The rest of us are using one of the maintenance ladders to get between the first and second floor in the crawlspace."

"Huh?!" Midoriya looked floored, "But what about the dumb waiter?"

"Too easy for our people to get ambushed. You seriously didn't think of the maintenance ladders huh nerd? Good cause if you haven't she probably hasn't either."

"Let's go, Mineta told Jiro, "it will take a while for us to get in position and we won't just be using the ducts, let's go." The pair left the other three teammates discussing what route they wanted to take.

Villains Team:

Yaoyorozu waited to hear a report back from Hagakure, initially not taking into account the possibility that she wouldn't be notified if her teammates were taken down, then it dawned on her, "Teams report in!" One by one they reported in except for of course Hagakure. "All right I want teams to check in every 5 minutes, and report anything suspicious immediately."

Teacher's Station:

"So what have I missed?" asked Nezu finally arriving.

"Hagakure got taken out by Jiro and Mineta," Aizawa stated, "Also none of the hero team are currently visible to the regular security cameras, not that it matters because the villain team hasn't thought to try using the mall security station."

"That is a pretty big oversight, considering those cameras would still be active in a power outage," Nezu commented, "but then I'm not sure the students would have been aware of that fact."

"The hero team split into two groups, Bakugo is leading Midoriya and Tokoyami in maintenance crawlspaces between floors where the electrical wiring would be readily accessible," Hawks sat back drinking a soda, "Mineta and Jiro are using the air ducts and some other crawl-ways to get to the bottom floor."

"Shouldn't Midoriya be in charge though?" Toshinori asked, not too happy that Midoriya caved so easily to Bakugo.

"What the kid has been coming up with has made sense so far," Rocky shrugged, "I'm surprised though, it's rare someone with such an ego has the talent to match their ego and isn't ahead of their skis."

Ventilation Shaft: (Between 3rd and 4th floor)

"It was no surprise Bakugo would try to take charge, but why are Midoriya and Tokoyami letting him?" asked Jiro, "Also why is he acting so calm about it?"

"Midoriya and Tokoyami think what Bakugo is coming up with makes sense," said Mineta quietly, "also while Midoriya is good at planning, he's more of a slow and methodical thinker which wouldn't be good in this situation, since it can require quick changes to the plans, like speed chess."

"You also seem very different, it used to be you'd be trying to hit on any girl, or crack jokes. What's wrong?"

"We're on the clock at the moment," Mineta said simply, to avoid answering her question, "Do you hear anyone?"

"Checking... yeah, they don't appear to have noticed us though."

"Who?"

"One is Yaoyorozu, she seems to be giving orders, I can't tell who the other one is..."

"I'll check and see," Mineta stated, "If it is then we need to hit hard and fast to take out the person she's with and her at the same time."

"But Bakugo..."

"If we don't think we can pull it off we'll abort, and go back to the original mission, but taking down their command and control would cripple them," said Mineta, 'Just please I don't want to fight Tsuyu.' He crawled ahead further and looked through the vent saw who was with Yaoyorozu and crawled back.

"Well?"

"Shoji, I don't think he noticed me..."

Jirou was listening with her earphone jacks however, "Crap he did, there was an order to Kaminari, Kirishima, Ojiro, Kirishima, Shinso, and Sero to try to get cut you off, they don't know about me yet."

"Wow, that many just for me..." Mineta looked scared, but then put on a brave face. "Okay Jirou get going," Mineta stated, "I'll make enough ruckus that they follow me, and scramble back to our heavy hitters, I'll use the shafts we didn't go down because you were too big." He scrambled away, banging on a one side as he ran like he slipped and fell, and Jirou listened as Shoji and Yaoyorozu relayed where Mineta was heading. Then she quietly slipped away to head down a different direction.

Notes:

Mineta has essentially made a sacrifice play, granted Yaoyorozu is over-reacting considering that many to take down Mineta would be considered overkill, but normally Jiro wouldn't be expected to be a forward scout.
