Lisa Garland
Monday Morning
6.15: I was rudely awakened by 2 damn pigeons having a brawl in a tree outside my window. As I reached for the alarm, I noticed the time, if only birds were more understanding they would just lemme sleep! after a ten-hour shift.
Furiously I flung a chunk of coal at the goddamn rats. They deserve it, too, waking a girl up before her freaking alarm. Well I am up now, my shift starts in half an hour thank god Alchemilla Hospital is around the corner.
6.35: I threw on my uniform, gobbled some toast and washed it down with some extra strong black coffee burnt my tongue in the process. I grabbed my keys, lip balm and handbag then rushed out the front door.
6.55: I managed to get in on time, I love my job but the head nurse is a damn witch and I don't want her bitching about me. I took out my compact mirror and my god I am a wreck, bags under the eyes and my hair has split ends. I tell ya its all well and good having a uniform which is the fantasy of all men but if the woman in it looks like a pile of shit then you kill the fantasy.
7.10: I started to do my rounds; I am on the paediatric ward which I love because the kids are such darlings. Silent Hill is quite a small town though, so I am still amazed about the amount of kids that come in.
At the moment we have 8 children in recovery and 2 in critical, one poor kid came in yesterday covered head to toe in burns.
7.20: First patient for today is Mary Thomas came in a couple of days ago with a very high fever, we later found out that she had been eating White Claudia it's not a real surprise as it grows wild everywhere, seems to have hallucinogenic properties, that would explain her strange behaviour, kept telling us she was hearing her dolly whispering to her, thankfully she has recovered and happily requests extra helpings of jell-o at lunch. Her vitals seem fine she is happily drawing in her notepad.
7.30: Next patient is little 6 year old Sam Goldwin, sad case really his father recently died car accident I think, sadly the mother has never been that stable was caught up in drugs and joined this strange cult, no one really knows too much about it but she started getting very aggressive toward little Sam, he came in with burns and cuts on his hands and he looked so thin. Child Services will be in tomorrow to place him in foster care and his mother (if you can call her that, the evil bitch) is going down for 20 years.
Sam seems okay today still very tearful and stares out at the rain most days. Poor little darling.
8.30: Finally finished on recover ward, head up the corridor to the critical ward, first on my list is Colin Harris. Colin came in on Saturday, was caught up in a hit and run.
He is in a very bad shape, he is on a life support machine, both his legs are broken and he has damage to the back of his skul if he survives he will be confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life, he seems stable but I will get the nurse on late shift to keep an eye on him.
9.00: Last on my patient list is Alessa Gillespie. This is the poor darling with the burns, I still can't understand why she is alive, burns like this should in theory kill a person.
She is a real fighter. I check her burns, they are very raw and there is heavy infection, I gave her some painkillers and make sure all thequipment is functioning.
Her flowers are wilting; I'll just run down to the shop and grab some more.
9.30: I came back with the best I can find I think that the best type of Flower to cheer you up are sunflowers, She seems to approve I can't tell for sure but there is a glint in her eye.
Poor darling all she has really are her thoughts I wonder sometimes what she must be thinking.
9.45: I grab a snack from the vending machine, I'm really wiped I could murder a chocolate bar. Well 2 hours left; better get on with the paper work before handover.
