Chapter 24: Rolling Out

Hawk's Agency - 8:30 AM

"Keito, you didn't have to come in to work you know," commented Hawks while shaking his head.

"Do you know where they are shipping Midoriya off to now?"

"Summer-camp..."

"I should be there," began Rocky, "I already failed his mom and..."

"You're not going," interrupted Hawks while trying to keep a straight face as his diminutive sidekick shot him a furious look, "Seriously, if something goes down what can you do in your condition?" The number three pro-hero's face softened, "Look Keito, I don't know where they are going and I'm too high profile, he's going to have those prototype gauntlets with him, as well as his hero suit and the Mark I's."

Keito Kurinsumi sat down in a chair taking the weight off the crutches, which if he had been honest with himself, he really was in no condition to even run a light patrol, "Do we have anyone keeping an eye on them?"

"Unfortunately, no right now secrecy is their best defense," he shook his head as Rocky bristled, "When will you be out of the casts?"

"Tomorrow, thanks to Recovery Girl, she's having to heal me in stages."

"Well that's good, but you should still take it easy, your injuries were no joke."

U.A. Front Entrance:

"What some members of Class A getting extra lessons, does that mean they failed," snarked Monoma mockingly.

"Dude, just shut up," replied Kaminari rolling his eyes, "Or would you like me to get started about how you play with dollies..."

"Say what? You have 5 members of Class A..." Kendo cut off Monoma with a karate chop to the back of the neck.

"Sorry about that, hey Izuku, Minoru," greeted Kendo, while some of some of Class 1-A were clearly startled by Mineta being addressed by his first name, it wasn't all that surprising to others. After-all, Mineta had been staying at the Midoriya residence, so he had to generally hang around after school during school council meetings.

"Hey Itsuka, still need that leash for Copy-boy?" asked Mineta.

"Unfortunately, Vlad said he wouldn't allow it," Kendo sighed.

"Hey, so how did your class do?" Midoriya asked curiously, causing Kendo to glare for a moment, then she realized that Midoriya didn't actually mean anything by it.

"Well the only one that actually failed was Monoma..."

"Huh? How did Copy-boy fail?" asked Mineta.

"A really bad match-up, he got taken out by Midnight," she replied, "To be honest it wasn't really a remotely fair match-up. Only worse match-up for him would have been Eraser or the Principal. I'm guessing the same happened to Mineta."

"Actually I passed," grinned Mineta.

All the girls in class 1-B's jaws dropped, "For real?" Kendo asked.

"Yeah, Midnight took down his teammate immediately, but Mineta managed to bait her away from the entrance and then left her stuck in the middle of the training area, I saw the video," explained Midoriya.

"Hey ladies pay up," Yosetsu Awase held out his hand, "I think you all owe me 50 yen."

"It was to the charity of your choice remember," Kendo retorted.

"Okay everyone on the buses," Aizawa ordered, breaking things up, 'I think I'm forgetting something, well better I say something, before who knows what happens.' He was sorely tempted to not say anything, but he didn't want to deal with the headache later. He put his hand on Midoriya's shoulder, "I need you to sit up towards the front, I need to brief you something."

"Uh sure."

"Is it something I should know?" asked Mineta.

"Midoriya can tell you later," Aizawa replied.

"Come on Mineta," said Kaminari while Shinso decided to sit just behind his Sensei. Tokoyami on the other hand decided to sit behind Midoriya.

As the ride got started Asui who was sitting on the other side of the aisle from Mineta spoke up, "Hey Mineta..."

"Yeah?"

"If you can behave yourself during summer camp, I will go out for a date with you, as long as there is nothing perverted..."

"What are you crazy?!" Ashido stuck her head up over the back of the seat looking back at Asui.

"Well you're assuming he actually can behave the entire time," Uraraka pointed out looking thoughtful.

"What makes you think I can't?"

"Well it is you..." Ashido pointed out.

"Excuse me?" Mineta replied looking annoyed, "You're on!"

Front of the Bus:

As the bus began to roll out, Midoriya looked across the aisle at Mr. Aizawa. "So what's up?"

"I need to brief you on someone that is going to be at camp," Aizawa passed him a photograph and a note for Midoriya to read through, that also informed him not to give out clues where they were going.

"Okay so this kid is like me?" he passed the photo and note back after reading it.

"Yes, he lost his parents in a villain attack."

"So what happened?"

"You'll find out more when we get there," replied Aizawa, "Just know he is handling it...differently than you are."

"You're not going to tell me anything else are you?"

"No, if the kid chooses to tell you more, that's up to him."

"Okay," Midoriya yawned, "I think I'm going to take a nap." At that he dozed off.

"Sensei?"

"Yes Shinso?"

"Are you going to tell me?"

"No, you'll find out the same time as everyone else, Midoriya doesn't even know where camp is being held."

"Okay?"

"Don't feel bad, they didn't tell us bus drivers where we were driving you guys until this morning either," spoke up a black haired bus driver wearing sun glasses whom Shinso noted looked fairly young.

"So you going to tell us where?"

"No."

"So Shinso, how was training under Mr. Aizawa during the internships?" asked Tokoyami changing the subject, however he still kept one eye on the bus driver at least the back of his seat anyways.

"I don't think I picked up everything I needed to learn given how badly my team did in the finals..."

"You shouldn't beat yourself up too much on your performance," commented Aizawa, "We had a hard time figuring out teams and who was versing who. You were a real wild card in the mix."

"Huh?"

"I believe I understand why," Tokoyami answered, "The teams were set up so every team would be facing their weaknesses yet still have a chance at victory. At the same time, the matches were set up to try to minimize the chances of fights going off the rails."

"You mean?"

"I see you're picking up some of Midoriya's habits..." commented Aizawa.

"It's hard not to when we're both Apprenticing under Hawks' at his Agency," Tokoyami admitted, "As Midoriya would point out, there were only certain staff members that could face off against you: Principal Nezu and Mr. Aizawa. Present Mic and Thirteen could as well but for various reasons but those two are either a real unknown or too much of a chance of someone getting hurt."

"Present Mic could potentially drown out my voice with his quirk so he isn't responding to me, or him using his quirk would mean I could auto win, one or the other. Thirteen's black hole quirk could be extremely dangerous if she came under the influence at a critical moment someone could have gotten seriously hurt."

"Your weakness your quirk's effectiveness is entirely dependent on what you're facing," stated Aizawa, "This is more true for you than any of the other students, while your quirk is incredibly powerful, it has its limitations. For instance it can't work on someone who is deaf, nor can it work on robots. Another weakness is if you have no idea where your adversary is. You need to be able to compensate for those weaknesses in the field. Unfortunately, you are only just a novice when it comes to using a capture scarf at the moment, thus your maneuverability was extremely hampered."

"I see."

"You probably had to face Principal Nezu because you were interning under Eraser given when you got to join the Hero Course," the bus driver spoke up, "Eraser would have had a conflict of interest that if you had passed, it could be said he went easy on you, and if you failed it would reflect poorly on him as a teacher."

Some of the students started singing at that point, which of course woke up Midoriya, who started grumbling about being woken up before the crack of dawn. "This is going to be a long trip," the boy groused.

Camp:

"So why do I have to come with you to meet a bunch of wannabe heroes?" asked nine year-old Kota Izumi cynically, "They're just a bunch of posers out for fame."

Shino Shozaki handed him a tablet, "Read this."

"What's so special about this guy?" Kota asked glancing at it disinterestedly.

"He's like you," Mandalay answered, "his parents are dead too."

"So he's a sap trying to uphold..."

"His parents weren't pro-heroes," she interrupted, "In fact, they were targeted because some people got the idea he was related to a pro hero when he wasn't. His mother was murdered in their own home while he was at school, he saw his mother's dead body, before the police could haul it away..."

This caused Kota to pause for a moment, 'He lost his parents only a few weeks ago, based on the article.' He shrugged trying to think of what to say, "So why are you telling me all this?"

"I don't know if Eraser Head will brief Midoriya about you or not, but if so, he may try to talk with you," Mandalay explained as they walked to the car.

"Okay, I get it, try to be on good behavior," Kota grumbled, "Stupid hero wannabes..."

'I'm not entirely sure this is a good idea, why did I let Aizawa talk me into this?' she thought as they got in the car.

"So Mandalay, you know Aizawa wanted us to..." began Ryuko Tsuchikawa (hero name: Pixie-Bob).

"Just don't send the Midoriya kid over the side," reminded Mandalay.

"Why not?" she asked while Kota just rolled his eyes, his attention focused on playing a videogame.

"Because Mandalay wants to give Midoriya and Kota a chance to talk without everyone else being present," Tomoko Shiretoko (hero name: Ragdoll) shook her head, "And that doesn't give you the green light to hit on the poor kid."

"We shouldn't have to be dealing with giving a kid emotional therapy," Yawara Chatora (hero name: Tiger) commented from the driver's seat, "I mean other than your nephew..."

"That's pretty cold Tiger," Ragdoll admonished, "I mean you read about what happened and then I-Island..."

"Yeah, and the guy somehow got loose, I know," he sighed, "I guess I can see why they are bringing him here, that guy's quirk would be completely useless where we live."

"Wait hold on, what?" Kota looked up befuddled, only it had distracted him at a critical moment causing him to lose his last life.

"They apparently sent Midoriya to I-Island thinking to keep him from doing anything rash or keeping him safe from his mother's killer..." Mandalay began.

"Only for the same villain to attack I-Island, thankfully All Might caught him," interjected Pixie-Bob, "Rumor had it that he was All Might's secret love child... I wonder if All Might's still single."

"You should really stop hitting on every guy you come across," muttered Kota.

"Kota, that wasn't very nice," admonished Mandalay as Pixie-Bob's left eyebrow twitched.

"Doesn't change the fact it's true..." Kota grumbled causing Tiger to snicker.

Top of pull off:

Mandalay looked over the ledge wide-eyed; Pixie-Bob had managed to not only send the entire Class 1-A over the side of it, but her nephew too, "Pixie-Bob..."

"Look he's just fine, I'll make sure my Earth Beasties won't hurt him," Pixie-Bob commented shrinking from Mandalay's glare, then looked over the side, "You guys need to make through the Beast's forest, and try to look after Mandalay's nephew okay?"

"YOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE!" Kota shouted up at her. The boy was covered in dirt and to his disgust he discovered his game pad was smashed.

"You know, Kota is going to get you back for this Pixie," commented Ragdoll.

"If I don't get her back first..." muttered Mandalay.

As she was saying that the bus driver was walking up to them, "So are these the Wild Wild Pussycats?"

"Eraser, who is?"

"Meet Koichi Haimarawari," introduced Aizawa.

"You mean the Kreuller?"

"The Crawler..." corrected Koichi.

"What's a Vigilante..."

"Former Vigilante, I've been a pro-hero for a few years now..."

"In the States maybe..." muttered Tiger.

"Yeah well, my license is just as good in Japan as it is in the United States..." he rubbed the back of his head grinning.

"Okay what's he doing here?"

"He's here in case the place is attacked," Aizawa commented, "I figured it would be good to have a wild card that only a select few know about."

"Great, Eraser what did you rope us into and aren't you being too hard on your students?"

"They need to be ready to take the provisional license exams so they can defend themselves, certain villains seem to have an unhealthy obsession with my class."

"Don't two of your students already have their provisional licenses?" Mandalay asked walking back to the car.

"Midoriya and Tokoyami," acknowledged Aizawa.

"Midoriya, Tokoyami, could you two please keep an eye on Kota? It seems Pixie-Bob got a little carried away..." Mandalay projected to the students with her quirk.

Pixie-Bob meanwhile was grinning, for now the fun would get to start.

Notes:

Originally I planned on having Rocky along for the ride, but considering his injuries I didn't think that would be an option.

As far as who knows about Koichi being present, only the following people know Koichi's real identity: Nezu, Aizawa, Midoriya, Vlad, and the Pussycats.
