Chapter 6

Ten Years Ago

Shortly after they made love for the second time, Liv felt her body's exhaustion. They had been up most of the previous night just talking. She had about an hour of sleep after watching him and then being woken up to eat breakfast.

She didn't mind the lack of sleep; she was in another dimension spending time with only Fitz in his dorm room. They were in their own little corner of the world, and she didn't want the weekend to end. After feeling him for the second time as amazing at it was, she felt bad, but she really couldn't keep her eyes opened anymore.

He had gone to the bathroom, and she turned to her side and fell into a sound sleep. It didn't even phase her that she was naked in his bed. She felt that connected, that comfortable with him. She couldn't understand the hold he had on her. As she closed her eyes, she felt like the luckiest girl at the school.

Fitz returned from the bathroom and noticed her sleeping on the bed. He stopped the music from playing, the song being interrupted was "Only Girl in the World." Fitz gave a chuckle. She told him all the songs on her list were for him. For him, she was now the only girl in the world.

He cleaned up the breakfast plates and put on a pair of boxers. He hadn't told her this was the first time he ever made love twice to the same girl. The other three were just one and done. Olivia was different though. His body responded to her in ways he couldn't control.

Before he joined her in the bed, he looked at her. She was slightly turned to her right, her cheek was resting on her fist, her other hand on her beautiful stomach, and her breathing was so peaceful, as he saw her hand move up and down with the rhythm of her breathing. He saw some eye movement and he could only hope he was in her dreams. He still couldn't believe she didn't have a boyfriend.

He told no one about his liking of her, he didn't want any competition. He wanted to be with her, endlessly on campus. He wanted to hold hands with her and walk her to classes. He would meet her at the train station and walk her to her first class. They would meet for lunch, ending the day walking her back to the train station.

He looked forward to playing baseball, but he wanted to be there for her softball games also. It would be great if the schedules allowed for them to watch each other play at times. Fitz had a lot to look forward to, especially if she would start out by going to the remainder of the basketball games he had left.

He took a deep breath. There really wasn't anything he wouldn't do to spend the remainder of his senior year being by Olivia Pope's side. He gently lifted the blanket, she stirred a bit and turned completely on her right side opposite facing him but didn't wake up. He put the blanket over her and him simultaneously. He got comfortable next to the girl he fell in love with.

The last thing Fitz remembered was looking at the time. He couldn't remember the last time he took a nap, let alone fell asleep at 1:30 in the afternoon. His body was coming down from so much excitement, though. She really pulled it off, got into his dorm, and here they were. He would sleep until Wednesday if it meant her being by his side.

He wrapped his arm around her, his chest against her back. He softly kissed her shoulder, and he felt her hand interlock with his. It was such an amazing feeling and his heavy eyes closed with his forehead resting gently on her shoulder blade.

Present Day

Olivia was the first to wake up. Her hand was interlocked with his somehow. They had fallen asleep with Liv's head resting on his chest, but they had obviously moved around, and she was on her side, his arm wrapped around her, and their hands interlocked. She was facing the window and her back was to him.

She felt his chest on her back, and she rubbed the top of his hand gently. So, here they are, now what? Liv didn't want to move just yet; she didn't want to wake him. She just wanted to feel this moment a bit longer.

She blinked, looking at her window. It was still daylight out, barely, making it around 5 in the early evening. She had to think. She still couldn't believe what was happening. He was here, back in her life.

She waited ten years for this. For ten years she fantasized, she dreamed, and she imagined what a reunion with Fitz would be like. She never thought, not in her wildest dreams, it would be this amazing. Love making twice in less than 12 hours, holding one another, talking, and cleansing.

She closed her eyes, bringing her free hand up to rub them. Could they really make it work? They had so much catching up to do, so much to talk about. They had to get to know one another again. What was he doing for ten years besides serving in the NAVY? Most of all, could she trust him again? Would she be able to tell him the pain that whole ordeal caused her?

She thought about her parents. How was she going to explain this to her mother? Her mother was consistently telling her to stop stringing Jake along and to look up Fitz. She wouldn't though, she felt if he didn't look her up there was a reason.

"One day Olivia, he is going to walk back into your life and what are you going to do?" Her mother never betrayed her trust, never told her father what had happened to his little girl. Now, she was concerned with Olivia knowing she had never gotten over him.

"I don't know Mom, I really don't, but I don't anticipate that happening anytime soon. He could be anywhere in the world and as far as stringing Jake along, I am not. Jake is aware of my feelings towards him." At least that's what Olivia thought.

Her parents still lived across the river in NY in the childhood apartment she grew up in. She visited them often, and her mother called her every 14th of February to check in on her, a yearly ritual. Usually, Liv was just drowning her missing Fitz in a bottle of wine. She didn't even go out last year when she was with Jake, making up an excuse she wasn't feeling well.

She felt his hand now, begin rubbing her bare stomach, still interlocked with her hand. She felt his warm lips connect to her neck and she let his hand go and reached back to rub his neck. She turned her body around, so she was on her back, and he raised his head to look into her eyes.

"Hi" he said in a groggy whisper.

"Hi" she said back. "So now what?"

Ten Years Ago

Olivia was the first to wake up. She felt her bare body underneath a blanket. She stared at the window, blinking to get her bearings. She felt her hand interlocked with his. She closed her eyes and thought about the past night.

Now what, she thought. How was she going to tell her parents? They were clear on her focusing on her studies, no dating. This was so different though, she wasn't dating, she was more like living. She wanted to be with him, and for always.

She imagined a life dating Fitz. She would step off the train, he would be waiting for her. They would walk hand in hand on the campus walking each other to class. She would never walk alone again back to the train station, because she would be with him.

He still had a few basketball games left, too. She never watched him play basketball, but she will now. She would be his biggest cheerleader in the stands. She would not hold back her love for him from anyone, and she didn't care. She had held it in for far too long.

Softball and baseball games may be difficult to get to for each other, but they would try. She closed her eyes. She had to perform well; it was detrimental to getting accepted to Alabama. The one thing she wanted was to start third base for the Crimson Tide, but she didn't want it more than she wanted Fitz.

She could hear her father now, "No time for love and dating Olivia, keep your ankles and body healthy, and get that starting spot." Her mother wouldn't be much better. "They'll be plenty of time for boys later in life, focus on your studies."

She felt his hand begin to rub her stomach. She closed her eyes, anticipating more time with him. She saw the daylight fading just a bit. It had to be around 5 pm and the night was just beginning. He placed a gentle kiss on her shoulder blade, and she reached around to the back of his neck, turning on to her back.

"Hi", he said half awake.

"Hi" she said smiling. "So, what happens now, tell me about being Fitz's girlfriend."

He smiled right back at her. "How about I tell you about being Olivia's boyfriend?"

She smiled wider now and turned to completely face him. They were laying now, just facing each other, no touching at all, smiling at each other. Just two lovestruck teenagers discussing their future together.

"Well, tomorrow is Valentine's Day, so with the morning light, I am going to give my girlfriend a kiss, that will be first on my agenda."

"You can do that now, you know, you don't need to wait until morning."

He leaned in and gave her a peck on the lips. He shook his head. "No, that isn't the same as a Valentine's Day kiss, you'll see Livvie." He rubbed her nose with the back of his finger as she scrunched her face.

"Tomorrow, when I head home, you're going to walk me to the train station. I can walk holding my guy's hand, interlocked fingers. Will you carry my bag for me?"

"I'll carry you if you want me too."

Liv laughed at that. "That's what I am looking forward to the most, the fun times with you. You make me laugh; you make me smile."

"I love to see you smile, it's more radiant than the sunlight."

"Fitz." She moved in and kissed his cheek. "When is your next basketball game?"

"We have a home game next week, next Sunday, you want to come, I can buy your ticket."

"I wouldn't miss my boyfriend's game for the world. You're averaging 12 points a game, you lead the team in assists, and you are ten points shy of your 2,000th point. Last year you earned All-American honors and are being scouted by some top schools."

'Impressive. I am turning them all down though, I want Top Gun second to wanting you."

"So tell me about Top Gun." She finally put her head on his chest and listened as his passion to be a fighter jet pilot came out in his words.

Present Day

"Now, I get to begin my life and date Deputy Attorney General Olivia Pope."

Olivia turned now, facing him fully. "You really want to do that?" Olivia looked down. She didn't mean to say it, it was just the insecurity.

"Well, you tell me, does Olivia Pope want to date Fitzgerald Grant."

"Lieutenant Commander Fitzgerald Grant." She corrected him.

"It's just a title, and he wants Olivia Pope with every beat of his heart. You know, tomorrow is the 14th of F…tomorrow is Valentine's Day. I plan on beginning my day by kissing my girlfriend."

"You can do that know you know; you don't have to wait until tomorrow."

He leaned in and gave her a kiss on the lips, it was identical to what they did this time ten years ago, and Liv couldn't help but smile at the thought.

"Nah, that wasn't the same as giving you a kiss on Valentine's Day."

Liv took a deep breath. "I remember our kiss that morning when we woke up. I am sure if you didn't get that text, we would have gone a third time." Liv stopped, she turned away.

"Hey, Livvie, come on, don't do this. Let's just continue talking. How about this? Alabama Prep Gatorade Player of the year senior year. Two-time first team all-state, and set Alabama Prep single season runs scored senior year."

Liv turned back towards him. "Those were my stats my senior year in high school. How do you know that?"

"You think I didn't follow it? I was so proud of you. Oh, and I forgot to mention Defensive player of the year two years in a row. I was so upset I couldn't be there to watch you."

"I looked for you Fitz. Every game I played, no matter home or away, I looked in the stands for you. When you met me at the batting cages that night, on the high school campus, I knew you were there, and I had a spark that made me do better. When I thought of you, I exceled."

"How do you think I made it through Top Gun? Those were the hardest twelve weeks of my life. You know I had a picture of your all-American shot on my dashboard. I named my plane the The Livvie. It was within the Squadron, the nicknames, you get ones for yourselves on your helmet, I think the pilots would have deemed me crazy if I named myself Livvie."

Liv laughed. "Your fighter name was Fitzgerald "Fitz" Grant. In 2014 your squadron was in Operation Enduring Freedom. You led the attack on Syria and your team, The LIONFORCERS got the prestigious Battle award and the award for the outstanding attack squadron in the Navy. You were the commanding officer."

Liv looked down. She put her forehead in her hands. "God, how I feared for you Fitz. Then I lost track with school and everything."

"I did also. I wanted to follow your college career, but I was over there. How did you know about that?"

Liv shrugged. "A friend of a friend in the NAVY reserve."

Ten Years Ago

"Do you see that door over there?" Fitz pointed to the corner of his room.

"The bathroom door? What about it?"

"It has a shower." His eyebrows went up and down.

Liv shrugged, "Ok". Do you like the water hot or cold?"

"Oh, no Livvie, I wasn't suggesting I take one with you…well, now that you invited it, I'd be happy to."

Liv put her head in her hand. She was so embarrassed. "I'm sorry Fitz, oh my, what do you think of me. I am not that seductive."

"Oh, it's fine Livvie, if it's with me, and only me. Yes, I am really that possessive. I like the water hot, you?"

"Let's go find out Mister." She pulled him up from the bed. She pulled his boxers down. "You won't be needing these in there."

"Hmm, and you're not seductive." She ran towards the door, and he chased after her. He caught up to her and he picked her up hearing her squeal with happiness.

"Wait, just grab my body wash from the bag."

The water was steaming up the small room. It was a standing only shower. They let the water beat down on them, as Fitz held her close to his body. As her hair got wet, he was in awe of her natural curls. He pushed her gently off him and stared up and down at her body.

"You are stunning Olivia, so beautiful. I want to know your body; I want to know all your weak spots." He got down on his knees and began kissing her inner thighs one by one. Liv gently caressed his soaked hair and when his lips rose towards her center, he gave the softest kiss with a small lick around her clit.

He heard her moan and she felt him smile. Liv couldn't talk, this was all new to her, and he was getting to know her body more than she did. His kisses continued up her wet stomach and went to each curve along her stomach.

Liv was completely lost now, her hands resting on his shoulders. He never did this, only fantasized about doing this one day to a woman, now he was living his fantasy with the girl he loved. He heard her moan again as he got close to her breasts.

He kissed in between her cleavage, up her chest and landed his lips on to hers. He swung her around, so he was in the stream of water now, and they stayed lip locked like that for a few minutes, just feeling each other's bodies.

It took a moment for Liv to realize her hand was around his hard erection. She heard him moan and she looked down. She looked up at him and his head was up with his eyes closed. "Livvie", he whispered. She just began stroking not expecting to do so, but just went along with it.

As she was weakening him, his lips came down on her breast and he circled the nipple with his tongue, while his other hand caressed her other breast. Liv never felt such pleasure on her body, and she fell weak into his arms, having an orgasm she was not prepared for.

Watching her fall forward into his chest, knowing he did that to her, he felt himself come in her hand. He held her tight close to him, then they just danced slowly around letting the water beat down them again.

Fitz picked up the body wash and lathered her whole body, foam from chest to toe, then turned her back into the steam of water. He kissed her while the water and soap circulated down the drain. He reached out of the shower and grabbed her towel.

She stepped out and he wrapped it around her, as he grabbed his and wrapped it around his waist. He rubbed the towel up around her body. She looked at him. "That was amazing, I didn't think…" She stopped looking down embarrassed.

"It's fine Livvie, you don't only orgasm while making love, you orgasm because you make the person you love feel good. I love you, Olivia Pope."

She leaned into his chest. "God, I am dreaming. I love you too Fitz."

Present Day

"Speaking of NAVY, there's a dinner tomorrow on base for families. It's a Valentine's Day Dinner, a bit fancy, would you…" Then he stopped. "Remember that dance you wouldn't go to ten years ago?"

"Yeah, it just wasn't something I was interested in, but if you want me to go to the dinner, I will."

He smiled. "You will?"

She shook her head. "Mmm hmm..it could be our first date. I will just have to tell Quinn I am not going out with her. We were supposed to go to a club."

"Yeah, definitely don't do that please. I don't think I think I can take knowing you are at a club."

"So, you see that door down there to the left?" Liv asked him.

"The bathroom door? What about it?"

"There's a shower in there."

He scooped her up. "I take it your body wash is in there already."

She squealed in laughter as they entered the much bigger bathroom this time. They took a much more adult version of a shower this time, but they still had to rediscover each other's bodies.

Fitz did the ritual of kissing her whole body again, but this time he took her in his mouth, tasting her. Her leg up on his shoulder, unknowingly pulling hard at is soaking hair, as she breathed his name. He was relentless with his tongue, and she would swear it was just payback for missing her for ten years.

There was nothing she could do but lose herself in the feeling. Her head went back so far, her face was now in the stream of water going down onto him and he had to hold her steady as her body shook with pleasure.

She wasn't ready when he stood up and kissed her relentlessly. What did she miss for ten years? God, she was so mad at him for what he did, because of that, she missed this. Before he could stop her, she kissed her way down his body and took him completely in her mouth.

He fell against the shower wall and held her hair gently. "Geez, Livvie." He watched her engulf him fully in her mouth and was able to feel the back of her throat. She didn't let up, and he could only move with the rhythm of her head.

She backed off for a moment, stroked it, then took it all in again. "Livvie, I'm going to.." His head went back, and he grunted through deep breaths as he felt himself let go in her mouth.

She stood up, breathing heavy. She rested her head against his chest. "I hate you for making me miss something this good for ten years."

He tightened his embrace on her, kissing the top of her head, as he rubbed her body dry, he stopped to look at her. "After all these years, Olivia, I love you."

She cupped his face with her hand. "I love you too Fitz, the hold you have on me.." She just shook her head and looked down. "I need to feel trust for you again."

"You will, baby, I promise."

They ordered take out and after dinner, they decided to talk.

"Is this dinner tomorrow formal? What kind of clothes do I need?"

Fitz shrugged. "It's my first time going. Most military bases have one of these, but I don't have to worry about clothes because I just wear my uniform. I have never gone to one, I just drowned myself in Livvie scotch every Valentine's Day."

"I am sure I have a dress to wear; I rarely went out also. I had my bottle of Fitz wine. Hey Fitz, does anyone know about us? Did you tell anyone our history?"

"I told Mason on graduation day. He was floored. He couldn't believe what happened. He was so upset with me quitting the teams, not going to prom, and just shutting down. After I told him the reason, he understood. I keep in touch with him. He is going to have his mind blown. You said you were going out with Quinn, so you're still in touch with her?"

"I am, but she doesn't know. I never told her. She would have had you dismembered. She wasn't a fan of yours. I did tell my mother though the ending of my junior year. She had her suspicions though. She knew what happened that weekend, I just had to tell her the whole story." She rubbed her arms, getting a shiver. "Could you get my sweatshirt it's hanging on the back of my door."

He came out with her basic hoodie but had found his NAVY one. She forgot she hung that up with hers on the door. "Oh, yeah, I never got rid of that. I just took it out of hibernation for the ten-year anniversary."

He looked at the shirt, remembering when he put it around her that night at the batting cage. The shirt brought back so many memories.

"Was it bad for you Liv? I could never get that image of your fall and your face out of my mind. I just couldn't believe what happened, and it happened so fast."

"Fitz, you have no idea. Every boy that asked me out after that I wondered why. I never thought I was good enough for anyone to like me. I just thought I was someone's prize." Her eyes filled with tears. "It was unbearable the first year because I was so hurt, so in love with you still, and I never put your picture away."

Fitz just tightened his lips. He didn't know what to say. "I never forgave myself for saying your name to Simon."

"Why did you tell him? Why did you say my name? Was I a prize, was it all just a game? The train ride home was complete tears and numbness for me as I asked myself those questions over again. The emotional pain was worse than any physical pain I ever had."

Fitz looked away. He was so mad at himself. "I know the dean saw you running out of the building. He came to my room and asked if I did something illegal to you. I was so mad at myself I felt like saying yes, because I felt like I did. From that moment, I became a different person. I was no longer happy, and my insides were torn apart."

"The insecurity I had after that day; I can't explain it. I didn't have much self-esteem, I felt I gave my body away without even thinking about it, but what we had was so magical, I knew in my heart it had to be real, but I couldn't bring myself to believe that."

"It was real Livvie, as real as this weekend is, and I am so sorry you felt that way. I couldn't be with a girl without thinking I was just going to make them a mess, break their heart, so I just distanced myself as much as I could."

"And your father? Is he?"

"He's still a senator, still in California. He's getting ready to retire soon. He always wondered why I would never settle down. He knew something happened, but I couldn't tell him. I didn't need him disappointed in me."

Liv realized she should have called him. What harm would one phone call have done? She was too immature, too hurt at the time to know. "I wanted you to hurt Fitz. I wanted whatever the prize was to be worth it and to affect your life, so you never forgot what you did to me. That weekend was so amazing, much like these past two nights, I am almost afraid for tomorrow to come."

"Don't be. If your mom knows, what does she think of me? I don't know how I will ever face her."

"She knows how I never got over you. She checks in on me every 14th of February. She was pissed I was dating Jake and not looking for you. She warned me you would one day walk back into my life. She'll give you a stern talking to, but she'll accept you because she knows I love you."

"When I saw your name on that paper for the grant, I almost passed out. I couldn't believe fate finally found you for me. I had three dozen roses sent to my dorm room to surprise you ten years ago, that ten dozen I sent to your office couldn't multiply enough to prove the love I have for you."

"The military guys you brought with you the other day are jerks. I've dealt with it my whole college life, but seriously, you would think military would be a bit more mature. Are they really your friends?"

"Just Connors. We were in Top Gun together and in the Squadron together. They act like that when they see a pretty girl, a beautiful woman, you. Besides, I told you ten years ago, and I will tell you now, boys suck."

"Dumb ass games to ruin a girl's self-esteem. Bets, bribes, dares, and who knows what else, at least girls just…never mind, I am not giving you our secret." Liv yawned. It was getting late.

"Do you need to go back tonight, or can you stay until morning to go get ready for the dinner?" Liv wasn't sure if he was staying and chancing the morning.

"I promise to just hold you in my arms, stare at your gorgeous features, and sleep peacefully knowing you're by my side, ok. I can head back to the base in the morning, if that's ok with you."

Liv stood up, grabbed his hand and when they reached the bedroom, she stripped naked. "I want to feel your body on mine, it's the best feeling ever."

He stripped as well, and they entered the bed, no desire to make love, just the need to be in each other's arms.

"Fitz, we had unprotected sex, I am not going to lie, there's always a chance, well, you know, and I am sorry, that was selfish on my part. If you're not ready, just in case that happens, I understand."

He faced her now. "I knew what I was getting into, I am an adult. I wouldn't want it to happen this way, but if it does, then it does. There is no one in this world I want to have children with than with you Livvie."

She felt so much better now. Unlike ten years ago, they weren't up all night talking. They had both fallen asleep and with the morning light peeking in, Fitz woke up.

The 14th of February (ten years later)

"Livvie" he whispered. He watched her open her eyes. "Happy Valentine's Day."

Before she could even speak, he had his lips on hers. Her arm went around his shoulders, and she returned the passionate kiss. He pulled back and smiled. "Now that's a Valentine's Day kiss. I love you Livvie."

"I love you Mister." Liv rested her forehead on his chest. "You think we can really make this work?"

"Yes, I do, I will never be over you, so if it doesn't work, I am going to be miserable. You know what I need from you?"

"What?"

"I need pictures of you. You had my picture for ten years, I had nothing but a magazine clipping."

"I also need to go get a fresh set of clothes. My bag is in my car. I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Wait, give me your phone. I'll take a few selfies while your gone, if that's ok."

Fitz turned his phone on, handed it to Liv, and headed downstairs.

Olivia had a sudden feeling of déjà vu and she wanted to tell him to stay. Feeling ridiculous she didn't say a word and watched him head out.

As she held up his phone, about to take the first picture, it lit up. It was a text message from Connors.

Liv didn't mean to read it, but the message displayed on the front, and it was staring at her.

"Yo, Fitz, I left you alone for two nights, now give me an answer, you coming to the dinner?"

The display lit up again. "You there? Listen if I lose this bet and you show up with Olivia Pope, I am going to be one pissed off friend. Answer me back."

Before Liv could take a selfie, she dropped the phone. Fitz entered the room just in time to watch his phone fall. "Liv, what is it?"

She walked his way, stopped, and looked up at him in the doorway of the bedroom. Her eyes filled with tears. "You know, Fitz, you should go, this was a mistake, and we just weren't meant to be. Please, just go, and leave me alone."

With that, Liv went into the bathroom, slammed the door shut and fell into the corner, feeling just as naïve as she did ten years ago.

Fitz stood speechless, staring at the phone on the bed, wondering what in the world had just happened. There was no way he could lose his Livvie again.
