Present Day
The past two days had been a dream come true for Olivia. She was still coming down off the weekend she had with Fitz. Their reunion was too good to be true, but the weekend they shared, including an unforgettable Valentine's Day would forever fill her heart.
They didn't get much sleep that night. They kept waking each other up, for reasons well known, and when the actual alarm went off, neither one of them wanted to go back to reality. It was just too magical and they both knew what they had to do to move on as a couple.
Fitz had agreed to come to dinner to meet her parents. Now, Olivia had butterflies in her stomach again. Tonight, he would meet her at the train station and they would head to her parent's place. She took a hard swallow. She didn't think this was going to be easy with her father.
She didn't worry about her mother too much; it was her father who could be difficult. That's something that shouldn't be worried about now. Four principals coming in from two middle schools and two from high schools to talk to Olivia bout the grant. Things had to begin to move to make this a success, and Olivia had to move slowly and correctly on this grant.
She was about to ask Bess to come in when there was a knock at the door. Bess couldn't take it anymore. She saw the glow in Olivia, one she hadn't seen in the two years she had worked for her.
Bess knew Olivia from the time Olivia met Jake and all throughout the year relationship and Olivia never came in as glowing and as happy as she did this past Monday morning. What happened over the weekend to get her boss so giddy? Bess wasn't waiting another minute to ask her, it had already been two days, and the glow was still there.
Once Olivia instructed her to come in, Bess opened the door. "Ok, spill it, what's gotten into you?"
Bess sat across from Olivia, and it was at that moment she noticed two things different she hadn't noticed before. Olivia was wearing a sparkling, yet delicate bracelet and a new picture was on her desk. Bess squinted at the bracelet and lifted the picture; she knew that face.
Olivia put her hand under her chin and waited, smiling the whole time. She watched Bess pointing to the picture deep in thought.
"That's, what's his name? He's in the Navy, gorgeous fellow, the Lt. Commander." She turned to Olivia with her mouth wide opened. "OH MY GOD. LIV!"
Olivia shook her head in happiness. "That's him Bess, that's my guy, I've loved him since I was 16 and when he came here the other day, well, my heart stopped momentarily. I just can't explain it." She felt her eyes filling with tears.
"Oh, I need to hear all about this Olivia, what the hell?"
"You will Bess, I promise. Right now, I have a crazy schedule with the principals and tonight I am taking him to dinner at my parents. My nerves are on edge."
Bess took Olivia's both hands. She rubbed her thumb over her bracelet and looked around at the still fresh roses in her office. "Judging by the way he's treated you in the past few days, you have nothing to worry about with your parents." She looked down at the bracelet. "Let's do a long lunch on Friday and you can tell me all about it, Livvie." Bess smiled and walked out of Liv's office.
Liv covered her face in her hands. She could only hope Bess's words were true. She wanted everything to go right tonight, but she felt everything was going to go wrong. She hadn't seen Fitz since he dropped her off at work Monday morning, both just working too much to see each other.
They fell asleep, well, Olivia did anyway on the phone with him the past two nights. Now Liv was finding it hard to concentrate, worried too much about the dinner tonight and seeing him again.
Ten Years Ago
Liv just finished up her summer courses. She had exceled in all of them, and the softball coach had announced to the team that Olivia would be starting third base and batting leadoff once the season started up again in March, her senior year.
Being named to All-State, first team and able to keep her ankles healthy, proved to her father the right choice was made. He wanted to be impressed, Olivia was well on her way to break the record of scored for Alabama Prep. Olivia knew what her father risked to send her there and there would be no regrets.
It was Liv's first time coming home to New York since she left heartbroken back in February. She still wasn't truly recovered from her heartbreak, having left Russel at the prom and not really facing the full wrath of her father. She stood in Newark airport back in New Jersey for the first time since she last saw Fitz.
Taking a deep breath and finding her father's car waiting for her outside the terminal, Olivia waved. Her father put her bags in the car for her as she waited in the front seat just fiddling with her cell phone. She heard his door open, and she braced herself for her father's lecture.
"You have no idea how proud of you I am. First team all American, honors, and now starting third base for Alabama Prep. Your dreams are coming true." He began driving, the car moving slowly out of the airport.
"Aren't you going to say anything about Russel? We can't just keep ignoring how angry you are about that, I know you're angry dad, so just let it out."
Her father tried to compose himself. He shook his head. "It's been something I have tried to put out of my mind, but I will admit it's hard. It doesn't make any sense. I work with his uncle; his father's brother and it didn't take well with Russel's family."
"Well, dad, how about it didn't take well that you just decided to use me and set up a date? I am not a prize to be won. I think it's only fair I get to choose who I want or don't want to date." Olivia crossed her arms, feeling the anger set in.
"It's fine honey, I get it. You were uncomfortable in that surrounding with Russel. That's why I have invited him to dinner tonight. He's in town visiting his family and he wanted to see you. The two of you can talk, chat, and maybe get to know one another all in the comfort of your own home." Eli hit a cruising speed now, towards the GW Bridge and Olivia just stared at him.
"You did what? Dad, seriously? Did you even hear a word I just said? I am not interested, God, what don't you get? What kind of deal did you make with his family, did you arrange a marriage or something? No, just no." She began tearing up and she couldn't wait to get home to talk to her mother.
Present Day
Fitz was just finishing his favorite time of the day. He had a 45-minute class every Wednesday with the youth cadets in the Youth Challenge Program on base. He loved the interaction with the kids, and it gave him a sense that he was making a difference in their lives.
His usual lecturing and teaching the students about the design of the latest Naval aircraft going on, Fitz felt he had a bit more enthusiasm. He had his mock engine, a smaller version of the aircraft one they were studying, for the students to see first hand and one of the students noticed the happiness as he presented his lesson today.
"Commander Grant, you seem happy today, more usual than normal, you in love?" Brandon started giggling and when Fitz side eyed him, Brandon stood at ease and cleared his throat.
The Youth Challenge program gave at risk youth a second chance. Brandon was in no position to lose his second chance having almost been incarcerated and already kicked out of his high school. He looked back at Fitz, sorry he said anything at all.
It was a relief when Fitz patted the young man on his shoulder. He smiled at him and said "Brandon, you are very observant, and you are not wrong. Yes, I am in love, and I can only hope and wish for you that one day you find the love I have found."
Brandon smiled back at him. He lifted the engine and began talking to Fitz about the risk in it getting too hot. As the young boy was speaking, Fitz got lost in his daydream.
He wouldn't admit it in front of the students, but he was a barrel of nerves today. Knowing he was seeing Olivia after work and heading to her parent's house for dinner had his brain on overdrive.
He had no idea what to expect. This was the very thing he avoided. He didn't want to meet parents, well he did want to meet Olivia's, but after she left him, he didn't want to meet anyone else's parents. The reason he could never get serious with a woman in his life, he didn't want to be too vested. He just didn't want anyone else.
Now, tonight he was meeting them, the parents of the girl he's loved for ten years. Her mother knew everything and that had him freaking out as it was, what about her father?
Liv didn't talk much about her father, but he didn't get good vibes from him. He seemed to have an agenda for Olivia, and that didn't seem to change even as a working, successful adult. His Livvie was looking forward to this dinner and he wasn't going to let her down.
Young Brandon was right, and he wasn't the only one that noticed Fitz's change in attitude Fitz noticed it in himself. Fitz's body was still numb from the weekend. Holding her, kissing her, and waking up next to her. It was all his dreams for the past ten years come true in one weekend and Fitz couldn't forget it.
Her radiant smile, her loving touch, and how stunning she looked at the dance all played on repeat in his mind. Yes, young Brandon, he was in love and will be for as long as he lived. He would make tonight special for his Livvie, and they could continue to move forward.
He missed her, more than she would know. It had only been two days, but when you wait ten years, two days feel more like ten days. He anticipated meeting her at the train station, and….he heard a loud clang.
"I am sorry, Commander, I lost grip." Fitz looked at the engine that toppled to the ground. All the cadets had gathered around, picking up the pieces. Fitz helped collect them all.
"It's fine. Next Wednesday, we work on putting it back together. Have a good week and continue to remain diligent in your studies." They all stood at ease, saluted their commander and synchronized a "Yes sir" as they departed the classroom.
Ten Years Ago
The third week into Top Gun training, the soldiers were given a two-night break. Connors couldn't wait to go to the bar, get as drunk as he could, and find some woman to make him forget the screw ups he's been making in training.
Fitz had been helping him out of the messes he was making. It was no secret the gifted pilot Fitz was, and he kept getting recognition and awards at every training category at every level. Connors felt Fitz deserved a night out.
Fitz was chosen as the pilot to lead the next round of training into the air. On the next mission he was the one to beat, as he had proven he was the best thus far. Fitz just wanted to take this news and call Olivia with it, talk to her about everything he is doing is for her. Connors wanted him to go out though to celebrate.
Fitz did not want to go, not by a long shot, but Connors wouldn't take no for an answer. None of the Top Gun students would be on base, and it would look dumb, maybe even suspicious if Fitz hung around, so of course he said yes to Connors.
The music was blaring, and the crowd was loud, Fitz just took in his surroundings. Over on the back wall was Leon "Sphinx" Gordon. He had his lips locked with a gorgeous blonde, and he wondered if he'd come for air at all. Fitz just shook his head.
The table next to him, three pilots were having a loud disagreement about the best planes to be used in combat. One of them looked over at Fitz. "Join us Fitz, we could use your input." Fitz put his hand up with his glass of scotch.
"No thanks, guys, I am good, carry on, the conversation is interesting." He lied, and when he looked over at the bar, he saw her.
She was a beautiful brunette, staring at him and Fitz immediately looked away. No woman he looked at ever gave him the spark that Olivia gave him. The girl still took it upon herself to walk over. "Hey soldier, the name is Veronica, care for some company."
As Fitz was shaking his head no, she sat down at the table with him. "I'm not staying too long Veronica, but I will buy you a drink." He signaled for the waiter and pointed at the woman. The waiter nodded his head, knowing what she was drinking and walked away.
Veronica grabbed his hand. "Oh, one night won't hurt, honey, I know how hard they work you guys in Top Gun, let yourself go for one night."
Fitz felt a hand go around his shoulders. "Yeah, buddy, that's what I am talking about. I'll be over there," Connors pointed to the back table with two women seated. "I have a decision to make, or maybe not." He laughed, a rather drunk laugh, "you two have fun, you hear." He walked away patting Fitz on the back.
Fitz's focus went back to Veronica. "I am flattered, thank you, but I am just here to take in the surroundings and relax, really."
Veronica got up and Fitz thought she was leaving, having taken the message. He was shocked when she plopped herself on his lap. She wrapped her hands around his neck and gave him a small kiss on the cheek.
"You are so handsome, so built," and she ran her hand down his bicep. "I am not asking you to marry to me, you won't be taking away my virginity, and you're not going to meet my parents, I just want a night with you, some fun, you know."
Fitz closed his eyes. He was slowly understanding the hurt he caused Olivia. She would never do something like this, pick up guys for a one-night stand. He only hoped he didn't ruin her in any way to cause her to become like Veronica.
He stood up, carrying Veronica with him. She giggled for a moment, thinking he was taking the bait. He put her down, left a cash deposit on the table and walked towards Connors.
He patted Connors on the shoulder. "Turtle, I am out of here. Take your time. This scene isn't for me." Connors watched as Fitz exited the bar, but he continued to his conversation with his two ladies.
Once outside in the hot Nevada air, Fitz rubbed his hands through his hair. "meet my parents." If, down the line, sometime in the future there was chance with Olivia, could he ever meet her parents, be accepted by her family.
He walked back to base slowly, sadness still overloading his heart. With all the women in that bar, Fitz had only one on his mind, and she was 2,000 miles away. He could only dream of the future and one day being important enough in her life to meet her parents.
Present Day
"Let me try to get this straight", Eli was talking to Maya. He was finishing up the biscuit dough as Maya was getting ready to put the roast in the oven. "Jake is history, and we are meeting a NAVY guy named Fitzgerald tonight? What is Olivia doing with her personal life?"
"That's just it Eli, it's personal, it's her life, let her explain it to you." Maya closed the oven. She turned towards Eli. "Take it easy tonight, you hear me, I don't want you upsetting Olivia."
"Exactly how do I upset her? I tried. I thought her and Russel would have made a good match. I still think she put it out of her mind because it came from me, then Marcus" Eli shook his head, "Marcus is now working in the White House, the White House Maya. Olivia could have…."
"Eli, enough, we do not control the narrative of our daughter's choice in men. Stop it. Don't hold your grudges with what could've been with her tonight, I am asking you to accept this."
"So, she just broke it off with Jake? She never brought him over to dinner though, we met him at that restaurant, I didn't care too much for him though. Why did they break it off and it's awfully fast for her to have another man, and he's meeting us?" Eli was trying to put two and two together.
"Hand me the spoon there, please, Eli, and just let conversation take its course tonight. Don't let it get to the point it got ten years ago when you had Russel over."
"That was all Olivia. She was the one with the grudge, something to prove. I really liked Russel, I won't deny that she didn't even give that boy a chance, Maya."
"And she shouldn't have had to, you were the one with the fears. You feared she would get hurt again, lose her scholarship to Alabama and you wanted her to have someone to lean on, that isn't how love works and you know that. You cannot make someone fall in love."
"This Fitzgerald guy, he's from California you say? Wait, last name is Grant? Is his father the Senator?"
"Don't bring up politics either. Eli, please, just let Olivia be who she is." Maya began stirring whatever was in the pot and she watched cautiously as Eli walked out of the room deep in thought.
Ten years ago
Maya heard the knock on the door, and she was not expecting the person who greeted her when it opened.
"Good evening, Mrs. Pope, I am Franklin Russel, but you can call me Russel. It's good to meet you ma'am". Russel was standing there with the most hideous display of flowers she had seen. No offense to the young man, but he must have purchased them from the bodega at the corner.
"What can I do for you Russel?" No sooner did she ask the question, she heard Eli's voice in the back entering the building. He was wheeling in one of Liv's bags.
"Ahh, Russel, perfect timing, please go on in. Maya, this is Russel, Olivia's…"
"I know who it is. Who invited him?" Russel was walking into the living room, ignoring the remark made by Maya. Trudging slowly behind was Olivia, carrying her other bag. She looked anger filled and frustrated.
Seeing Eli go towards Russel, Maya closed the door to a crack and stood in the hallway. "Baby Girl, what is this all about?"
"He insists I date that boy. I don't want to mom, I don't know why he invited him, what is his problem? Mom, it's still too soon. I am not over him; I won't ever be over him, now this. What am I going to do?"
Maya hugged her daughter close to her. She loved Eli, but sometimes he could be impossible. When it came to his daughter, he thought he could control the narrative on her dating life. If only he knew how her heart was hurting.
The awkward silence at the table when dinner was served was deafening. Eli tried to small talk, but Olivia really didn't answer any of his questions. Finally, Russel got some nerve and spoke to Olivia.
"You know, I am not upset about the prom. I understand you got sick, Jaz told me you were nervous and all. That's why I agreed it would be better if maybe we were here, close to home. I would love to get to know you better."
Liv fidgeted in her seat. She crossed her arms, having not eaten a crumb, and rolled her eyes. She pushed her plate away. "Look, Russ, I am not interested in dating, not you, not anyone right now. Why don't you tell my dad how you hit on Jaz as soon as you saw I wasn't at the prom, so much that she felt uncomfortable being ten feet close to you. You are arrogant, conceited, and self serving. I want nothing to do for you and I will not apologize for my father inviting you here, that's on him. Whatever your family did for him, thank them for me, but I am not repaying you with a date or by being your girlfriend." She turned to her mother. "May I please be excused now?"
Maya, tight lipped, but proud as hell for her daughter nodded her head and watched Olivia walk to her room. Whatever that Fitz boy did to her was not going away, and it's something Maya had to understand.
Eli left the table going after Olivia. He sat on her bed as she looked the other way. "Please go back out there, that was rude."
"No, what was rude was you trying to set me up with a boy for your own gain. I don't know what was promised to you if I got into that school. I am not someone you can just auction off for a date. What is your problem?"
"What if you get injured again, what if you can't go to Alabama? What will happen with your education, your dreams? You have to have something to fall back on."
"Are you even listening to yourself? So, I marry Russel because he is rich? Really dad, no thank you. Please think about what you are saying and ask yourself if that makes any sense, if that's fair to me? Don't worry I won't get hurt, and I will make it to Alabama. I'll be a lawyer if it means taking loans out that I pay till the day I die." She kicked her feet under the blanket and turned her body away.
Present Day
Olivia thought of that whole exchange as she waited for Fitz to arrive at the train station. Her father never did forgive her for not giving Russel a chance and she didn't even want to think of Marcus. Now it was her turn to wonder if her father would accept this.
You're an adult Olivia, so whatever happens, happens, it wasn't going to change the way she feels for Fitz, it never will. She loved her father, no matter what, she will always love him, but he deserves to know the truth. She should have told him when it happened, it would have saved a lot of heartache and unnecessary fighting. Liv was trying to outrun these thoughts in her head.
The door of the station opened and in walked the face Olivia had missed for the past two days. As she stood up, Fitz picked up his pace, not being able to be away from her for another minute. He gobbled her up in his arms and gave her a long kiss on the lips.
Olivia received and gave, holding him close to her and running her hands through his hair. It took a minute for her to realize they were in a public train station. She pulled back. "I missed you."
"Yeah, I couldn't stop thinking of you. I am ready to do this." Fitz took a deep breath and began walking with his arm around Olivia.
"Don't take anything my father says to heart ok, it's all geared towards me, so don't take it personally."
"Whatever that's supposed to mean. I think I'll be fine. We're adults now, right." Fitz took a hard swallow, trying to convince himself.
It felt weird knocking on her own childhood door, but she didn't want to just walk in interlocked with Fitz's arm. Not sure what to do at the moment, she took another look at Fitz as they stood outside the door.
Fitz looked back at her, confused. "Are you in the right place?" He gave a chuckle.
"Yeah, I guess I should knock, but first." She pulled the collar of his coat and gave him a kiss because it may be a while before she could again. Just as she locked lips with him, the door swung open and her father was standing there clearing his throat.
Fitz quickly pulled back. "Sir, I apologize. I…" he really didn't know what to say.
"Dad, this is Fitz, Fitz this is my father." Liv broke the tension. "Is mom in the kitchen?"
"I'm right here Baby Girl." She greeted them both as they walked in, Fitz shaking Eli's hand despite the death stare he was getting.
As Maya waited for Fitz to take off his coat, Fitz reached in and pulled out a small envelope. "For you Mrs. Pope, well for you and Mr. Pope to have a nice dinner out."
Maya took the card and Eli came over to examine it. It was for Ale's Steakhouse, their favorite place to eat, but very pricey. Liv took Fitz's coat as they looked at the card. Liv looked at Fitz. He was in khaki pants and had his collared polo on that read NAVY in the corner. It was a dark gray shirt and it brought out the blue in his eyes.
Eli noticed the way his daughter looked at the this Fitz person. Before Liv could see, Eli looked back down at the card. "Young man, this is enough for three dinners at the place, thank you."
"My pleasure, sir."
Before dinner was served they sat in the living room, Fitz's hands on his lap while Liv placed her head on his shoulder and interlocked one of her hands with his.
"How long have you known my daughter?" Eli took the glass of wine from Maya as he asked Fitz the question.
"Umm, well, we met…." Liv didn't let him finish, she knew he wouldn't know what to say.
"I met Fitz when I was at the prep in New Jersey, dad, we've known each other for ten years."
Eli nodded and Maya gave him a look, waiting for the click.
"You were friends at the Jersey prep?" Again Eli waited for Fitz to answer.
"We played, well I played baseball, and I met Liv on a scrimmage, and well we" Fitz was trying to find the right words.
"Dad, we've known each other a long time. Fitz was one year ahead of me and when I went to Alabama, we lost touch. We met up on a project I am doing for the Attorney General. Fitz is in the Navy, he served four years as a Top Gun pilot. Is dinner ready mom?"
Fitz was just following Liv's lead. He knew her mother knew the history and she didn't seem too upset over it, he still couldn't read Eli.
Fitz followed Maya to the dining room while Liv stayed behind with her father. "Is there anything I can help you with Mrs. Pope?"
"Please, call me Maya, and everything is fine. Thank you for the kind gift. I understand my daughter has loved you for a long time. I know all about Valentine's weekend ten years ago. I am not happy your broke her heart, but she has made it clear she broke yours as well."
"All that is in the past now, Mrs…" Fitz caught himself, "Maya, we are together again, and I vow to never lose her, to never hurt her again. I love her more than my words could ever express." He blushed admitting it and had to look down as to not get emotional.
"She has loved you as well, Fitz, for a very long time. I had to call her every year on Valentine's Day just to see how she was holding up. I am rooting for you and for her, after all you have been through, you two deserve a chance at happiness."
Dinner
"Everything is delicious." Fitz began conversation.
"Olivia, did Jake just leave, or what?" Eli was curious.
"Dad!"
"Eli!"
Maya and Liv both at the same time called him out. Fitz suddenly felt the heat rise in his face.
"Well you dated for what, a year, and all of a sudden you show up here with Fitz. Isn't a father allowed to be curious? Are you pregnant?"
Fitz coughed, having to take a sip of water. Liv patted his back and Maya stared angrily at Eli. Eli shrugged.
"It's a legitimate question."
"You're out of line dad. You want the truth, here's the truth. Ten years ago, I lied to mom about staying with my friend Quinn on the Jersey campus. I spent the weekend with Fitz, losing my virginity to him and falling in love with him. The reason I ditched Russel and Marcus for that matter, is because I never stopped loving Fitz, ever." She took a deep breath, a big sip of wine and continued through the stunned silence.
"I never got over him, and I drowned myself in work and softball so I could try to forget about him, but I never did. About a week ago, Jake stupidly asked me to marry him as if anything we had was real, when it wasn't. I said a flat out no and he walked out of my life. Two days later I found Fitz again. Don't ask the reasons why we broke it off after that weekend ten years ago, because that's none of your business." She stopped again. Fitz had glanced over at Maya, who had the proudest grin on her face, and then he looked down at his food, suddenly losing his appetite.
"This past weekend, I spent it with Fitz, we had the most amazing time, making love and getting to know one another again. I can't even say I fell in love all over again because I never fell out of love with him. Now, if you will excuse us, I would like to spend time with Fitz rather than sitting here being uncomfortable with you. Accept that I never dated or had a serious relationship with anyone you wanted me to because I already made my decision. I love Fitz, he loves me and that will never change."
Liv got up and walked to the room to get their coats. Fitz's face had to be beet red by now. He cleared his throat and looked at Eli.
"Sir, what she said is true. I do love her and for ten years until this very moment, I do still love her. I hope you'll understand I will never hurt her or mistreat her."
Liv arrived back, handed Fitz his coat. She walked and gave her mother a kiss goodbye. "Dinner was wonderful mom, I apologize for leaving so abruptly. Before leaving, Liv grabbed her half full glass of wine and downed the rest.
She interlocked arms with Fitz and was out the door. She stopped outside the building and took a long deep breath, burying her face in Fitz's chest.
"This is over for now, Fitz, but rest assured we'll go through this again. Still willingly to hang on?"
"I'm on this ride for life Livvie, with you every step of the way."
Liv's place
After a long train ride back to Trenton to get the car, and a longer car ride back to Liv, Fitz just sat on Liv's couch now, holding the love of his life. They didn't say much on the train or in the car, and he let her collect her thoughts.
"That goes back a long way Fitz, I don't want you to think you had anything to do with the tension between my dad and myself."
Fitz held her closer. "Russel? Marcus? Here I thought I only had Jake to compete with." Fitz smiled.
Liv took a breath of relief and chuckled. She straddled his lap and interlocked her hands behind his neck. "You have no competition. It never was a competition, it was always you." Her lips found his. She stopped and got up. "Meet me in the bedroom Mr. Grant."
Her shirt was thrown on the couch as she walked away from him and he began to undress as he followed her down the hall. By the time they both reached the edge of the bed, they were naked and kissing once again.
Fitz pushed his body on top of hers and before he entered her he looked at her. As if knowing what he was thinking she said, "My father already thinks I am knocked up, let's give him something to talk about."
Fitz used his hand to guide his erection into her, so wet waiting for him, and he had to moan. He didn't know if it was possible to love this woman any more than he already did, as he looked at her eyes, moving in sync with each other.
She pulled his head down, devouring his mouth again and raised her legs to rest on his hips. She let her body weaken with his movement in and out of her, and she finally closed her eyes as the climax overtook her body, slowly, but heavenly.
Just weak, as her legs fell, Fitz caught one to keep his momentum and guided his lips to her neck while holding up her leg. His kiss stopped as he grunted and emptied himself into her. Unless there was a problem, he didn't know how she wouldn't be pregnant the way they have been going at it.
After a few minutes of silence, he asked if she was alright.
"Me? I am fine, he had that coming to him for ten years. Don't worry about my father. This is nothing new. We will work this out."
"So, when do I get to meet Mr. Grant?" Liv kissed his chest as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Soon enough Ms. Pope, soon enough, although it won't be as exciting as tonight, I can assure you that." Fitz heard his phone ring and went to the living room to get it.
"Hey sexy, whatcha been up to, care for a visit from an old high school buddy?" Fitz heard Mason's voice come through. "So, how's the NAVY in Jersey, are you the designer for next fighter jet yet?"
"Mason, you'll never guess who I have in the other room with me."
Liv's phone rang as Fitz was going to answer his. Assuming it was her mother to let her know the fallout, she answered it "what"?
"What to you too bitch, I can't check in on the friend that stood me up on Valentine's Day?"
"Quinn, hey, I was expecting someone else."
"You know Charlie surprised me on Valentine's Day anyway, so I didn't spend it alone, hope you didn't either Liv."
"I didn't, in fact I think it's time you know the truth of who I spent it with."
