A/N: This is an idea I'm rather infatuated with at the moment...

Harry at Cedric's grave...

Remembering a promise:

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep." From Robert Frost's 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.'

Harry walked silently between the snow covered trees, over the snow covered forest floor. Harry's son was asleep on his back, and he was growing rather heavy, but Harry didn't mind. It was nearly dusk, and they had been walking for hours, but Harry was not at all weary. He ploughed on relentlessly, but was relieved when he broke from the trees, and out of the snow, onto a cleared cobblestone path. He followed it up, passing gravestones on either side of the walkway. The sky overhead was dreary and grey.

Harry halted in front of a large marble tombstone, and carefully swung James to the ground. The name on the gravestone read Cedric Diggory. Harry stood there without speaking for a long time, until his son said, "Daddy? Who was Cedric Diggory?" Harry glanced down into his son's green eyes and smiled. "Cedric Diggory was a good man, Jamie." "Why did he die?" "Because of Voldemort." "Oh... were you there?" "Yes, Jaime, I was." "Did you try to help him?"

Harry closed his eyes, memories rushing back, "Yes. Yes I did. But you can't save everyone. Especially not when Voldemort's the one trying to kill them." Harry's heart was hurting. "But Voldemort's gone." "That's right, Jaime. Voldemort's gone."

Harry looked down at James again; his son was staring intently at Cedric's grave. "Jamie, I want you to promise me something." James looked up questioningly to his father. "What daddy?" "Promise you'll never forget Cedric Diggory." James looked confused, but he said, "O.k. daddy. I promise I'll never forget Cedric Diggory." Harry smiled, and turned back to his old friend's grave, James's hand tight in his.

Harry was standing there to honour a deceased hero and fallen friend. Harry was standing there to show Cedric he still remembered the promises he'd made when Cedric died. Out loud, Harry had promised to take Cedric's body back to his parents. He'd kept that promise. And in his heart, Harry had promised to never forget Cedric Diggory. He'd kept that promise too.

"Remember a boy

Who was good

And kind and brave

Because he strayed

Across the path

Of Lord Voldemort.

Remember Cedric Diggory."

Yes; he'd kept that promise too.

Fin.
