Finding Happiness Ch. 2

He was so small, Luna observed. It wasn't uncommon for preemie's to be small, but the ones that were born with drugs, alcohol in their system always seemed smaller to her. Standing to the doctor's left, she was handing him all the tools that he needed to finish closing. Once Dr. Nameed tied the last stitch, he looked around the OR, "Great job everyone."

Quickly counting all the towels, tools, and the rest of the equipment, the cleaning staff entered and started the process of turning over the OR.

Dr. Nameed looked down at the young scrub nurse, "I just got an emergency page to OR 3, I need to go now, would you go update the family?" he asked.

Tara couldn't believe it, not only did Dr. Nameed ignore her, but he was also going to ask a nurse to talk to the family? "I can do that. I mean it would be better coming from a doctor." She said looking her nose down at Luna.

Not wanting to get in the middle of this pissing battle, Luna just looked over at Dr. Nameed and waited for his final decision, this wasn't the first time, or would it be the last when a doctor chose her over another. "Dr. Knowles, I appreciate your eagerness to give the family information, but don't you think that the doctor that almost popped the first stitch causing all our hard work to go down the drain talking to the family would be disingenuous?" With that he turned back to Luna, "Please update the family, Dr. Knowles, you update this chart information and return to it to me so I can proofread."

Without sticking around to see the look of disgust on her face, Luna made a beeline towards the waiting room. Turning the corner, she could see several SON's as well as Gemma waiting. It was an intimidating sight, this kid may not have had a great start to this life, but it seemed like he would have a great many uncles watching his back. Good, the little man needed all the love he could get. Coming up towards the family it was the bald one that noticed her first. She saw him nudge Jackson, and as soon as he stood up, every member and Gemma was standing at attention.

Before anyone could speak, she held up her hands, "Abel did great. The hole in his stomach was repaired, there was a few moments of touch and go, but Dr. Nameed was able to stabilize him and now he's on his way to recovery. You should be able to see him in about 30 minutes or so." Looking around the room she could see the relief on all their faces. Before she could take a step back Gemma embraced her in a hug.

"Thank you, sweetheart." Gemma wasn't known for her displays of affection, especially towards outsiders of the club, but she couldn't help the rush of emotions that came through her. Soon enough she pushed herself away from the young woman and looked around the room, her husband and son's surprise were enough to make her smile.

Jax couldn't help but give her a small hug as well. "Thanks, not that I'm not happy to hear this information, but where was Dr. Nameed?"

Stepping back from the hug, "He was paged to an emergency, so he needed to handle that. He sent me because I was there from the start of surgery to close, so if you had any questions, I could answer them for you."

Anything else that was about to be said was silenced by her pager. Looking down at the number, it was Wendy, she was awake. "If you will excuse me, it appears Ms. Case is awake, I need to check on her, a NICU nurse should be here momentarily to take you to see your son." With that Luna headed towards the elevators.

As the doors closed, she could see one the RN's from NICU was making her way towards the family, but it was the bald guy with the deep coal eyes watching her that made her tingle. This was not good, she really didn't need the attention of a tall, dark, and deadly man. She wanted the quiet life.

Wendy was looking all kinds of nervous, her eyes were darting back and forth, Luna couldn't help but stare at the woman. "Ms. Case, I need you to relax, I just need to take some vitals, and I promise that I will give you some time alone."

"It's not that I need to be alone, I just want to know about my son. How's Abel?" she asked.

Luna really couldn't look at the woman, she knew that her eyes would give her anger away. Taking a moment to breath through her nose, Luna centered herself. "He's in recovery now, they were able to repair the tear in his belly, if he pulls through the night, tomorrow Dr. Nameed and the team will go in and repair his heart."

Wendy couldn't help but feel relief, she knew that Gemma wasn't going to let her anywhere near the baby, but perhaps she could convince this nurse to let her see Abel. "I want to see my son." She demanded.

Luna finished up her check on the vitals, everything was reading normal, good, the sooner she could get out of this room, the better it would be for her career. "I can't help you there Ms. Case, the hospital has contacted DCF about the meth that was found in his system, until they determine you are not a threat to the child you are not permitted to see him unless supervised by a social worker or his biological father." With that Luna left the room.

Heading towards the nurse's station, she put all her chart information in for her vital check on Wendy. She couldn't help but type on the keyboard with a little more force than necessary, but she was mad, that woman demanded to see the kid. Where was that concern when she was pumping the poison into her body? Being so focused on the task at hand she didn't notice that tall, dark, and dangerous was watching her.

Happy waited about 20 minutes before he started his search for one Luna Erickson.

After he left Jax the night before, he went straight to the clubhouse, and found Juice. He was already doing a deep dive into the woman, he figured he could get the information himself, because he was sure that unless Juice came up with something Jax wasn't going to share that she was fine. He wanted to know everything about her.

"So how's the background check coming Juice?" he rasped.

The smaller man looked up and could see that Happy wasn't going to mess around. While he knew that Happy respected him as brother, he was always a little scared of the man, he was crazy. "Uh.. she's clean, no affiliations with any clubs, or gangs. Lived in Chicago her whole life, nothing major to report on her personal life, no indication of something happening to her that would make her leave Chicago. Funny thing, she lived near Tara, a couple blocks away. They probably never even talked before landing in Charming. Other than that, she seems normal, nothing standing out." Juice looked over at Happy, he seemed satisfied with the information, and with that left Church. Juice took the time to call Jax and let him know the same thing.

Happy walked straight up to the nurse's station and waited for her to notice him, he was pleasantly surprised that it only took her a moment. As soon as her eyes landed on him, he could see that she was quickly assessing what he wanted. Taking the question out of the equation, "How's the junkie?" he rasped.

Luna was taken back by his deep gravely voice. Causing her insides to get all melty. Luckily, she had practice of keeping her professional face plastered on. "She's doing well, hopefully she'll get the help she needs."

Happy smirked down at the small woman. "That junkie has been in and out of rehab, she's not going to change."

Shrugging her shoulders, "Not my place to say one way or the other." Turning her attention back towards the charts. She was keenly aware that the man wasn't going anywhere. Putting the last note in, "Is there something else I can help you with?"

He couldn't help the smirk that landed on his face, "No, I'm good, just feeling like hanging out to keep an eye on the junkie, got a problem with that little girl?" he rasped.

Standing up from the desk, "You can do what you want, not like I'm going to be able to stop you." She wasn't trying to piss him off, but it was the truth, unless her life was directly in danger, there was no need to throw down with a biker. Her mother didn't raise an idiot.

The dark chuckle that escaped his lips sent a shiver down her spine. He watched her closely as she made her way around the desk, "I'd really love to see you try, little girl." Looking her over, he could see that she was curvy, not rail thin like the whores at the clubhouse. She had a body of a natural woman, but what really caught his attention was how she moved, gracefully, he could tell under those scrubs she had muscles.

Tilting her head towards him, "Well, I guess I'll save that party trick for another time, but for now, you can keep an eye on Ms. Case. I'm going to head up to check on Abel." With a polite nod, she turned and headed up to NICU, as she turned the corner, she could see that he was always watching her. It was very unnerving. She really wasn't looking forward to the day he made his move and she said no, he wasn't going to like that, but it had to be done, she wasn't one for one-night stands, and he definitely didn't look like the keep 'em type.

Getting off the elevator Luna was greeted again by several SON's, all of them turned to her as she entered Abel's room. "I'm just checking his vitals; I'll get out of your space soon enough."

Gemma was looking down at her grandson with love in her eyes, she turned her attention to the blonde coming into the room. "His numbers seem to be holding steady." She remarked.

Luna took the time to read the monitors and pull up the last hour of his readings, "Yea, he's doing great. Numbers are keeping where they need to be, if they keep on this course throughout the night, he will be taken to surgery for his heart tomorrow, if that goes as planned, this young man went from 20% survival rate to 80%." For her, this was one of those happy endings, she could feel it.

Gemma looked over at her, "That's great news sweetheart, thank you so much." Her thank you's were joined by several of the other men in the room.

Placing her hand on Gemma's shoulder, "I didn't do anything, I was just the one handing the tools to the doctor, he did all the hard work."

Jax smiled at her, she was kind and not willing to take any credit that wasn't hers, not like Tara, she came by not too long ago to check on Abel, but mostly to talk to him. She couldn't help but brag that she did the stitching. Jax had to tell her to back off, not that he wasn't happy to see his first love, but things haven't changed, she didn't want the MC life, but it was a part of who he was, he honestly couldn't see himself without his club. It would be like cutting off a piece of himself. She didn't get it, she never would. He made a mental note to have Juice look into her past and see if there was a reason, she came back to the one place she always said she hated.

Turning his attention back to the present, "So how's Wendy?" while he would never allow her near his son again, he didn't exactly want her to die.

"She's stable, awake, nothing new to report on that front, the social workers will be in with her sometime today or tomorrow, I explained that until the courts deem her fit, she can't come see the baby without their supervision or yours." Luna didn't really want to get into the family drama, but figured it was important to let them know that she was already asking to see the baby.

Gemma was livid, how dare that junkie even think she would raise this baby. "That woman will never get to raise this baby, she gave up that right when she almost killed him."

Luna took a quick survey of the room; she could see that the rest of the SON's were in agreement with the queen. "Understandably so, look I've seen cases like this back in Chicago, some judges can be very bleeding heart to a mother that is trying. Get a family attorney they will be able to give you advise and how to proceed."

Clay watched the young woman, he could see that Gemma didn't immediately hate her on the spot, so that must count for something. "Don't like junkies as moms?" He asked.

Luna couldn't help but wonder, what these men did that made their voices so deep. Sparing the graying man, a quick once over, she could see that his patch said President, putting him in charge of the men in this room. "The truth, I can give credit where it's due, from my brief interactions with her, she's not ready to deal with the stress of being a mom as well as work on getting clean, she'll only fail, which in turn will make her use, then continuing the vicious cycle. She needs to focus on well-being before she can even think of becoming a mom." That was exactly how she felt about it, while she could never agree with walking away from your kid, sometimes you needed to, in this case Wendy needed to focus on herself if she wanted any chance to get clean.

Clay smiled at the girl. He could respect her honest opinion, but what really impressed him was that she was standing in a room full of bikers, not showing any intimidation or fear, not too many people would be comfortable in this room. She didn't seem to care, she was here doing a job, answering a question that was asked of her. Nothing more, nothing less.

Gemma couldn't help but smirk, she knew that she read this girl right, smart, able to read a room, understood where and when to give any information. This is the kind of girl she wished that Jax would find, but no, first was Tara, then after a long line of whores, he ends up marrying Wendy. He was smart, but sometimes he was just an idiot.

Jax looked around and realized that Happy wasn't in the room. He turned towards Luna, "Have you seen Happy?" he asked her.

Blinking rapidly, Luna had to keep her smirk in check. The scary biker was named Happy? HOLY SHIT! "The tall bald guy?" She questioned.

The room filled with a few chuckles because of her quick description of him. "Yup. The one and the same." Jax replied.

"Last I saw him, he was sitting outside Wendy's room." She answered.

Opie couldn't help but wonder what she thought of him sitting outside the room like that. So, he voiced what most of them were thinking. "You allowed him to do that?"

Turning her attention towards the voice, damn he's even taller than the bald one. The fuck do these guys eat? "I made a calculated choice, figured let him sit there or I could flex my hospital muscles to have him removed from the building, but I figured letting him hangout was the path of least resistance."

The guys couldn't help but chuckle, Clay laughed. She was smart. Gemma had good instincts when it came to shit like this.

Gemma was laughing too, "Yea, he doesn't exactly scream approachable."

Luna was glad that she didn't offend anyone, she was just here checking on her patient, and getting ready to head out for the day, if everything went according to plan, she would be back tomorrow doing the second leg of the surgery with Dr. Nameed.

"No, he doesn't, but I'll keep to my corner if he keeps to his." With that she headed towards the door, "I am heading home for the night, the charts and everything have been updated, but if you need anything the charge nurse has my contact information, you can have her page me if you need me throughout the night."

Jax and the rest of the SON's gave her a polite goodbye and watched her walk out the door.

Clay turned to Juice, "You do a background check on that one?" he asked.

"Yea, she's clean, Jax had me do it last night. Nothing special in her background, clean, no affiliations with other clubs or gangs, nothing in her credit or social media gave any indication that she left for any other reason that for a change." Juice was grateful, he always liked being an asset to the club.

Jax couldn't help but smile, it was nice to have someone in this town that was just here, not wanting anything from anyone. Looking over at Juice, "Yo, find out what you can on Tara, she could have gone anywhere, but she came back to Charming, she hates it here, see if there is a reason she came home."

Gemma and Clay both looked surprised, they both figured that given enough time, he would start up again with her, but they were both impressed that he was taking a good look at the situation before doing something stupid.

Juicy was on cloud nine, he loved hacking, especially when it came to someone that hurt a brother. "I'll head to the clubhouse now and get started, should be done by the time we head to Church." With that Juice took off towards the club.

Happy watched Wendy sleep, god he wanted to strangle her with the pillow, but figured that it would look bad if all the members of the SOA were here and she was murdered. He'd wait, and if his Prez or VP gave him the go ahead, he'd make this junkie whore disappear. But for now he would be just keep watch, make sure that she didn't go see the kid, that bitch almost killed him for a fix, that was something that he would never forgive. His mind drifted to a little curvy blonde, he wanted her that's for sure, but he wasn't looking for an old lady, he didn't want one. But he was sure she would be a great fuck. Perhaps he would fuck her, it's been a long time since he fucked someone that wasn't affiliated with the club somehow. Yea, he needed her. She would be his, at least for a while.
