Chapter 59: Bert to the Rescue

Meredith stopped in her tracks, halfway to her car. She couldn't believe… that voice… Her heart squeezed painfully. Was she in such a bad state already that she was imagining him calling her name? And then she heard it again. She turned around… and there he was! Setting her heart in furious fire. Derek fucking Shepherd was back in Rachel. With his perfect hair, dazzling cocky smile, stupid brand clothes… Her gaze shot a little past him to a bright red SUV. There were some people with him peeking curiously out of the car, including… the red headed whore! She would recognize that hair anywhere.

Her jaws clenched angrily as her mind went back to the painful evening. Who the hell he thought he was coming back as if he had done nothing wrong? Bringing his little whore for vacation? If he thought she was going to greet him with her arms wide open, he had another thing coming.

"Meredith!"

He was catching up with her when she decided to let it all out. She needed to vent. Cristina was telling her for days that she needed to open up. This felt like a good moment.

Her eyes narrowing into slits, she rummaged into her grocery bag pulling out a tomato. Seconds later it soared in the air stopping right against his chest. Unfortunately, it wasn't ripe enough to burst, it simply bounced off his chest, hopefully leaving a bruise. Maybe she should squeeze it first before throwing it at him?

"Bastard!" she hollered at the top of her voice. Why should she stop herself? The whole town was aware of her personal life. Besides, they felt for her. Derek Shepherd wouldn't have an easy life here…

Another tomato targeted him, this time leaving a red mark on his previously pristine shirt.

"Mer!" he frowned at the not so enthusiastic welcome, slowing down a little. He knew what Meredith was capable of and she seemed quite enraged.

"Asshole!" she screamed and threw another tomato which was this time avoided by a spectacular duck. He tried to walk up closer, bending down.

"Don't you get near me, you son of a bitch!" The last tomato hit his arm with a spectacular splash.

"Mer, love, just hear me out!"

"I'm not your love, you bastard!" she hollered, and this time hit him with an apple.

"Ouch!" he grimaced, rubbing his chest.

"Did it hurt? I hope so. I know something that will hurt even more," she said looking down at her dog. "Bert, get him!"

"What?" Derek cringed at the mad growling that coming from the spaniel's jaws. "Seriously, Bert, sit… sit! You're my dog…"

"He's not your dog anymore! He's my dog! Go get him, Bert!"

Finally, Bert lunged forward barking loudly while Derek couldn't do anything else than break into a run. He didn't get away very far when he felt a pull on his trousers on the level of his ass and heard the material rip in Bert's teeth. He didn't slow down. Bert surely would be luckier the second time around. Seized with desperation and hope to save his butt he climbed onto the hood of the first car on his way. He stood up panting and grabbed the torn material of his slacks, looking down warily on Bert who was jumping up trying to reach him.

"Stay away from me, loser!" Meredith warned him, successfully flinging the last apples and a can of tuna at him. "Or you'll lose more than a pair of pants! Bert, come on! You're a good boy!" she stroked his head as she hoisted the remains of her shopping. She sent Derek a deadly glare and jumped into the jeep followed faithfully by Bert.

"Meredith!" he called after her, ignoring the fact that dozens of people around were staring at the incident, and that his family was watching when he was making a fool of himself.

"Smooth, Shep! Real smooth!" Mark burst out with laughter. He was not the only one. The others were equally amused, even his mother had tears in her eyes. "Now, I know what love-struck really means!"

"You sure she's in love with you?" Mia roared with laughter. "I think she has one thing on her mind only – your total annihilation!"

"It's not funny!" Derek tried to argue.

"I would agree, Sir," a voice he well knew said behind him. He turned around to see Rigsby looking at him grimly. Crap, he was standing on the hood of the Sheriff's car… "Derek Shepherd, you are to step down and abandon all attempt at resisting."

Ah, Rachel solidarity. Derek obediently got to the ground suspecting where it was going. His suspicions were confirmed when Wayne firmly gripped his arm just above the elbow and turned him around.

"You're being arrested for disrupting public order and vandalizing a vehicle belonging to the sheriff's office. Also, I believe I had had complaints of a sexual assault."

"Oh, come on!" Derek groaned as Wayne pushed him forward, not even trying to be delicate, and put handcuffs on his wrists. "You know Meredith and I were just arguing at the time!"

"You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law."

Trust me guys... trust me! I would never do y'all wrong!
