Chapter 6
I was used to Bow crying. It was by no means a rare occurrence. He was emotional and responsive to pretty much everything and so his sniffling and sobbing as he clung to his dads was expected.
Glimmer bouncing up and down with her eyes darting around was also predicted. She was hyperactive and excitable on the dullest of days and so her non-stop chattering and constantly interrupting her mom were also expected.
I didn't expect myself to be so emotional though. Glimmer and Bow had always been volatile and so I had trained myself to be level headed. To calm them down when they got to be too much for even themselves. I had always seen our arrival to Hogwarts as being the same. I would say goodbye to my moms, let Bow and Glimmer say goodbye to their parents and find us a compartment where I would sooth Bow and hype Glimmer up.
Instead I found myself biting my lip to keep myself from grinning too widely and blinking aggressively to stop tears escaping.
Mama grabbed my shoulder from behind me and whipped me around.
She pulled me into a tight hug, "You're going to do such great things at Hogwarts." she whispered, pulling back so she could look at me.
"Make sure to write so that you can tell me all about it." She told me firmly, through a watery smile.
"I will," I told her resolutely.
Mother hugged me then, "If you need any help with anything in any of your classes you can owl me or floo call me and we can sit through it together. Just like we did at muggle primary school." She said, "Remember transfiguration is all about the little things."
"I'll remember Mother." I laughed.
"Of course you will, you're going to be the greatest witch Hogwarts has ever seen. I just know it."
"I won't let you down." I said emphatically.
"I know you won't."
Glimmer tugged on my arm suddenly, "Come on Adora. Before all the good compartments are gone."
"All right I'm coming sheesh."
"Come on Bow" I called and Bow was next to us in an instant. Still sniffing and hiccuping.
Glimmer was either too excited to notice or too excited to care about Bow's sniveling and since I wasn't exactly the most comforting person Bow was left to pull himself together as Glimmer hunted for the perfect compartment.
She passed up at least a dozen perfectly empty ones until stopping so abruptly I almost rammed into her.
"This one." She said firmly, turning a walk in confidently, as though she owned the place. As far as I could tell it was identical to the ones she had vetoed but she looked as though she had just discovered electricity so I didn't ask any questions.
We all sat down and slid to the window. I could see our parents. Bow and Glimmer's parents were looking around the train and when Lance saw us he nudged George and pointed excitedly. I expected my parents to be there too but I could see them both talking on their work phones. They nodded before apparating away.
I sat back into my chair and squeezed my eyes shut. I knew Mama and Mother were busy being Minister of Magic and Head Unspeakable respectively. I couldn't expect them to just be around all the time. I couldn't expect them to be as selfish as me and sacrifice time that they could be spending helping others to do little things that say things that are already implied.
To do things that say "I love you."
"Hey guys," a soft voice said from the hall, "Is it ok if I sit in this compartment?"
We turned to see a tan blond girl in pink robes standing at the door of the compartment.
"Hey Perfuma!" Glimmer greeted.
"Of course you can sit with us!" I told her.
She glided over and sat next to me gracefully smiling at everyone in the compartment.
"How have you all been," she asked politely.
"No need for the stuffy pureblood formalities Perfu- Bow enough with all the crying. It's obnoxious!" Glimmer shouted.
"You're obnoxious," he fired back quickly, rubbing his eyes to stop the tears.
"At least I'm not a crybaby," Glimmer snapped.
"Oh that's real mature as usual Glimmer." Bow screamed as the train started to move. "And I will have you know I am a cryman."
Glimmer scoffed and the two of them started bickering loudly.
"Maybe we should all take some deep breaths," Perfuma interjected. She closed her eyes and began to hum.
"Ugh! Of course everyone on this stupid train is either a loser, in comlete chaos or me!"
Mermista stormed into our compartment and plopped down next to Perfuma. Sea Hawk followed close behind her.
"You two got here late." I commented with a raised eyebrow.
"Someone set my room on fire with their wand." Mermista glowered.
"It was an accident!" Sea Hawk moaned.
"That doesn't change the fact that my silk sheets are ashes now. Do you know how much that stuff costs you pyro!" Mermista shouted.
"A lot?" Sea Hawk gathered.
"Yeah, a lot," Mermista sneered.
"I'm sorry."
"That's good and well put I have to get that fixed and I have to do it before summer holiday."
"My wand just went crazy."
"Yeah the wand is what's crazy." Mermista said wryly.
Sea Hawk's mouth dropped open in shock and we all started laughing hysterically.
The rest of the train ride was spent laughing, teasing and catching up with each other.
Apparently Sea Hawk and Mermista had started to spend a lot of time with each other outside of balls and things; despite Mermista's generally irritated demeanor I could tell she didn't mind it.
"Ooh~" Bow teased.
"Sea Hawk and Mermista sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G" Glimmer sang.
Mermista turned bright red- "You two can't talk, look at how close you two are,"
Glimmer and Bow looked at each other before sliding to opposite sides of the seat.
"You two are pretty close as well." Perfuma pointed out. I wiggled my eyebrows suggestively.
Mermista slid to the floor and gestured between her and Sea Hawk's spot against the wall.
"Are not."
Glimmer opened her mouth to say something else when a loud scream came from across the hall.
We all jumped and looked to where the scream had come from.
A femine presenting person with long brown hair and caramel skin stood on the seat and had her back pressed into a wall. She was shouting something at someone. She looked disgusted and appalled like something shockingly gross just happened and she needed a moment to herself.
She turned her head and I noticed that her eyes were two different colors, blue and yellow. I'd never seen anyone with two different eye colors before or yellow eyes.
She was really pretty.
"Who is that?"
"Scorpia and Entrapta silly," Perfuma told me, "Although I'm not sure who that other person is."
"We should invite them over here." Bow said.
I was about to get up to do just that when an older student poked their head into that compartment. The person sat back down and smoothed out their hair. Before turning to the window with Entrapta and Scorpia.
The same older student came into our compartment, "You should change into your robes. We're here."
We all scrambled to look out the window but Glimmer pushed everyone out the way.
"We're here!" She squealed, "Hogwarts!"
