Finding Happiness Ch. 11

For the first time in his life, Happy was terrified, it was like his body was moving on autopilot. Getting the call that Donna and Luna were in a shoot had his blood run cold, Clay, looked like his soul was sucked out of his body.

Rolling up to the scene Hale and ATF were standing around, red & blue lights flooded the streets. Opie was screaming for Donna, she was sitting in the back of an ambulance crying, she was covered in blood, he barely could move seeing Donna like that damn near broke him. Looking around he didn't see Luna. Busting past the police barrier, he walked up to Donna and Opie, "Where is she? Where's Luna?" His voice was breaking, she wasn't here.

Hale stepped in front of him, "She's in shock right now. Ms. Erickson is on her way to the hospital; I don't know anything else."

Staring down the cop, he did his best to keep himself from strangling him. Without a word he turned towards the hospital, he could hear his brothers calling his name, but he was too focused on getting to hospital, he needed to know she was OK. The person responsible will die, regardless, but if she dies, Happy was going to kill every person in his family and make him watch.

Speeding the whole way, Happy didn't give a shit, the primal need for him to get to his mate was borderline obsessive. Running into the ER, "WHERE IS LUNA ERICKSON?" he yelled at the first nurse he saw at the desk, the woman looked terrified.

Turning her attention towards the computer, knowing that she needed to get him the information. "Uh, she's in surgery, no new information. 5th floor is the surgical floor, there's a waiting room." She kept her eyes down, not wanting him to speak to her again.

Without a word he headed towards the waiting room, it was like walking on Jell-o, being completely off balance. Making his way into the waiting room, he found a black man in scrubs sitting in the waiting room looking terrified. He recognized him as her friend from the ER. At first Happy didn't like this guy being around Luna, but he realized that he was gay, and no competition for him. "What have you heard?"

Charlie jumped up and stared at him. Blinking rapidly, "She was stable going into surgery, from what we know from the EMT, she took 2 bullets in the shoulder area of her body. They just started, so it will be at least a couple hours, unless…" he didn't want to finish the sentence, "unless there are complications." He couldn't help but cover his mouth, Luna was the only person that knew who Charlie really was and never poked fun at him.

Happy couldn't believe what he was hearing, sitting down, he just stared at the doors, willing them to open with the doctor performing her surgery. His eyes were burning a hole into the doors.

It didn't take long for the rest of the SONs to show up, Gemma was unnaturally quiet, her eyes kept darting to Clay, and Tig. Happy watched the quiet interactions. Years of experience told him that they knew something. For now, he would put that shit on the back burner, but God help them if Luna doesn't make it.

Hours of not knowing went by, as the time kept creeping forward, Happy started pacing, his mind unable to stop thinking about the worst-case scenarios.

Clay watched his enforcer pace like a caged animal, how could everything go so wrong? Why was he so convinced that Opie was dirty? Looking over at Tig, he knew that he was feeling guilty for putting this in motion, he was convinced that Opie was dirty, and willing to kill a brother. Clay needed to re-evaluate himself, why didn't he have Opie sent to the cabin until the name of the witness came out, was he so cold blooded that he would kill a brother behind the tables back? Rubbing his face, he could see that Happy was watching him, if he didn't pull himself together Happy would figure it out and kill him in the hospital. Oh, he was going to own what happened to the club, he needed to, but right now he just wanted to be there for Luna.

In what seemed like forever, a doctor came out of the double doors. "Luna Erickson?"

Every member present stood. Happy was front and center, "Is she alive?" That's all he wanted to know. Would he get the chance to love her?

Standing tall, the doctor locked eyes with the scariest SON, "Yes, she's on her way to recovery now. We removed 2 bullets from her shoulder, no permanent damage, she's very lucky. I'll have a nurse come out when she's in her room, give it about an hour." With a that he turned to leave.

Standing still, he heard what the doctor said, but it was like a weight has been lifted off his chest, he could finally breath again. He felt the slapping of his brothers on his shoulders, everyone saying their thank gods, but he just wanted to see Luna, he didn't need or want anyone right now, he wanted her.

Charlie stood up, "I'm going to find her," looking at Happy, "Let's go."

It didn't take long for Happy to get his ass moving, following the young nurse to her room, as he entered her room his heart stopped. She was lying there with all these monitors and tubes coming off her body. Taking slow steps towards her, "Baby." He was terrified to touch her; he didn't want to cause her anymore pain. "Little girl you better pull through, I need you little girl."

He sat next her holding her hand, staring at her. In the first time in his adult life Happy felt weak. As his family piled into the room, he didn't give a flying shit that they saw him at the point of tears, this was personal, not business, he can be a human now. Out there he'd be the outlaw that the club needed, cold and calculated. She needed him to be there with her, she deserved it, the opinion of the rest of the SONs about how he was with her was no longer up for a debate, if they thought he was a pussy, he'd welcome them to the ring.

BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Luna could hear the faint noise of monitors. Ow. Fuck. Pain. The white noise started clearing and she could hear voices around her. Familiar. What happened? Her brain was foggy, almost as if she couldn't focus on an image, it was distorted; as if seeing in through a wave of water. Never in her life had she wanted to open her eyes, but it was as if they were 10-ton weights. She kept trying to shake the lead on her off her body. Giving another attempt to open her eyes, she finally was able to get them open, slowly blinking her eyes focused on the lights above her, "Ow." Was all she could get out.

Happy's eyes darted to the sound coming from the bed. "Little girl? You with me?" his voice was frantic. Damn near pleading with her to be OK.

She was able to turn her head slowly towards his voice. "Donna?" her voice sounded similar to Happy, raspy.

"She's fine baby, some minor cuts, you saved her life. How are you?" he asked.

Donna was safe, good. "Sore, want to go home."

Several chuckles were heard, taking a second, she looked around the room, she could see all the SONs standing over her with a look of relief on their faces made her smile. "I'm fine guys." Looking around the room her eyes fell on Donna, she was clinging to Opie. Slowly lifting her head, "I'm glad you're OK."

Donna couldn't hold back her tears, sitting on the edge of the bed, "Thank you for saving my life, I can never pay you back for what you've done for me or my family." She saw her life flash before her eyes, and if it wasn't for Luna, she would never see her kids again.

Luna reached over to touch her hands, "You do everything for family." Luna felt like her body was on fire. Breathing through her pain she turned her eyes back towards Happy. "Hey, you doing ok Biker?" She could see that he was holding it together, but barely. She held fear in her heart, she knew that Happy was pulling away, this was more than enough reason for him to end their relationship, but for now she'd keep those fears to herself there was no reason to bring it up with a room full of his family.

He was stunned, here she was laid up in the bed, and asking how her was doing. "I'm fine little girl, how you doing?" Grabbing her hand, "You scared me little girl. Don't do that again."

Chuckling hurt, "I'm sore, but seems I'll live. Or so I'm assuming. I'll do my best to stay out of trouble."

Squeezing her hand, "You better not, or I swear to God I will lock you in the house until you are a old gray woman. You hear me."

Returning the squeeze, "That's a little harsh, but OK." Looking around the room her eyes fell on Charlie. "Dark Chocolate, will you please stop looking at me like that, and get me an ice-cream. Please."

Wiping his eyes that was full of tears, stepping over to her, "I agree with your man here, you keep yourself safe, you're the only one around here that keeps me sane." With that he headed out the door to scrounge up something for his girl.

Watching Charlie leave, Luna turned her attention to the rest of the club. She wanted to ask about what happened, but Hale and Stahl walked in. Rolling her eyes, she knew what was coming, but she was grateful, right now she couldn't even fake not knowing, so her actually not knowing was a good thing.

Happy stood up in between her and the cops, "You're doing this now? She just got out of surgery, so back the fuck off." He couldn't believe that they would come so soon after her getting out of surgery, what the actual fuck.

Hale bristled, he knew that the SONs were going to dig into this, but his suspicion on the club was focused on Clay, he knew that Stahl was setting Opie up to look like a rat, it didn't take a genius to know that Clay found out when he found the bugs in Opie's truck. Looking over at Jax and Clay, he knew that Clay had a hand in this, Jax would never do anything against Opie without concrete proof. Looking past Happy, "Ms. Erickson, do you want to talk about what happened?"

Luna could see that Happy was on the verge of snapping. But she needed to speak with them, if anything to get them to back off. "Sure. Ask. Remember in pain. Make it quick."

Stahl stepped forward, "What do you remember?" Stahl was reeling from her guilt. She knew this landed on Clay's lap, but it was her that put this in motion. Grateful that these women didn't die because of her bad judgement call or Clay's need for vengeance.

Grabbing Happy's hand, "Honestly I don't remember anything, I remember talking to Donna about Abel coming home, I remember us hugging for some reason, and that's it."

Stahl spoke to the doctor, he told them that with the shock and trauma there would a be a chance that she wouldn't remember anything. But with her experience with speaking with her before, she wasn't a liar. "I'm sorry." Taking out her business card, "If you do remember anything, please call me." Tapping Hale on his arm, they exited the room.

Without missing a beat, she handed the card over to Happy. "Toss that out please. I don't need it." Reading the faces around her, she could see guilt on Gemma, Clay, and Tig. No way. Not wanting to give away her thoughts, this was something that she would need to talk to Happy about. She wasn't surprised, Stahl did a great job making Opie look like a rat, Clay's reaction to protect the club wasn't surprising. She just hoped that he got it out of his system. "So who did it?" she asked.

Happy was livid, crushing the card that Luna gave him, his eyes locked with Tig for a second, then he focused back on Luna, "No little girl. We don't, right now, you need to rest, tomorrow we'll figure this shit out." Looking around the room, "Everyone out, she needs rest." While he was glad that his club was here supporting his girl, but he wanted to be alone with her.

Gemma looked around the room and could feel some of the tension leave, now that everyone knew that Luna was going to pull through and Donna wasn't hurt. "OK baby, we'll head out, call us if you need anything." Looking down at Luna, "You get better sweet girl, if you need anything, have your old man call me."

Smiling at her, "I will." Looking around the room, "Thank you all for being here. I love you guys."

Each one of the of the SONs said their Love you's and get betters. Soon enough she was alone with Happy. She held up her finger to her lips and pointed to the door, a second later Charlie came in with her ice-cream, handing it over, he quickly checked her vitals and bandages, "Everything is good, you should be out of here by noon tomorrow." Looking over at Happy, "Find who did this." With that he left the room and a stunned Luna.

Happy smirked, "He's got guts."

"Anyone that looks you in face and speaks to you is badass." She couldn't keep the laughter out of her voice. Taking a moment to breath, "Did Clay order a hit on me, or Donna?" she wanted to know.

His jaw was ticking. "I don't think it was meant for you. Opie, he was supposed to be in the truck. I think he ordered Tig to handle Opie because he looked like a rat. I promise you Luna, I will kill Tig for this."

Closing her eyes, she took a moment to breath, "Don't do that, he was reacting to what Stahl set in motion, it's his job to protect the club, it's just lucky that I saw the gun and pulled us down. I want that bitches head Happy."

Sitting on the bed with her, "Clay and Tig need to pay. This can't go unanswered." He was furious, not at her, but at his brother and President.

Putting her hand on his, "Take Tig to the ring, and beat his ass until he is barley conscious, as for Clay, it's within his rights to act on the club's behalf, right?"

Taking off his kutte, he laid down next to her, being careful not to cause her anymore pain, "When it calls for Mayhem, no, he needs to get unanimous vote. This goes behind the club and the rules. Problem is, I can't accuse him directly without proof, suspension will not do anything."

Wrapping her arms around him, "Fine, I'll let you handle that side of it, but Tig, he gets beat in the ring for not checking his line of sight before opening fire. Rookie mistake."

Growling into her ear, "Shit's not funny little girl. I was terrified tonight, I thought I lost you."

His emotions surprised him, especially after the last couple days with him, "I'm alright, I'm tougher that I look."

Tilting her head he kissed her, slowly, he needed to keep her safe. Using his thumb he rubbed her cheek, "I love you little girl."
Luna was stunned silent, she never believed in a million years that he would ever say anything like that. She couldn't believe it, she hoped, but she didn't want to put too much energy in something that may not happen. "I love you too."

Her pain meds were finally kicking in, and she felt herself start to doze off, before the darkness took her under, she felt him pull her closer to his body.
