Plot:

When the countries of Tollone and Tarelia finally agree on peace, a greedy advisor steals it away during the naming ceremony of the Tarelian princess. The princess, is whisked away to safety, and rumors fly of her hideaway.

Years later, Anyé, the niece of a "Robin Hood" figure in the Black Forest, discovers that she is the lost princess. Shortly after her discovery, she finds a childhood friend, Garron, who also happens to be the royal heir to the throne of Tollone.

Together with the help of a young thief, a bold pirate, a maid, a puppy, and a terribly witty dragon (he was supposed to be ferocious, but how vicious are elderly dragons?), Anyé and Garron must overthrow the evil and despicable "Prince" Henric, who lusts after absolute power over the twin thrones of Eniram.

Prologue

The countries bordering the sea of Eniram, and the wild mountains of Arret had lived in peace for thousands of years. However much the human kings of Tarelia and Tollone would bicker like children (for that is the way of kings, especially those who have Wizards under their command) the faerie lord Athodemus, and devilish goblin kings of Brocklebania had made a pact to never allow a war between the other two.

The kingdoms were filled with amazing and magical beings, like faeries and wizards (who unfortunately never got along and used the humans as a middleman to deal with trade.) Fell beasts roamed the Charmed Forest (which was not as pleasant as it seemed) such as Minotaurs, giants, and the terrible dragon Fireke. The creatures mostly lived in peace with the Humans, and the mighty realms were prosperous.

Unfortunately, arguments between the faeries and Wizards (and Witches, but they were not nearly as common) continually threatened the peace. The disastrous conflict that nearly began afull scale war, ended with the deaths of a faerie and a wizard, and the burning of a village on the outskirts of the Forest.Neither side would let the other rest untiltheir cold justice prevailed. The horrible battles and human and magical being casualties sparked the human kings to intervene. They declared that if the two breeds of magic could not live in a relative calm with each other, that they would destroy themselves, and the rest of the world.

The faeries and Wizards reluctantly agreed to an uneasy truce, and to keep the promise, Lord Athodemus of the Faeries, created a small hidden Valley for Faeries to live in. His excuse for such an excessive use of magic was to have his people as far away from the wizards as possible, to keep trouble from brewing.

The Wizards continued to work and live with the humans, for that is what they truly are underneath their layers of magic.

A thousand years passed, and Athodemus' daughter Bernadette (vibrantly beautiful and young at 906 years old, for faeries are immortal unless they give their hearts to a human) married the mortal King Zan of Tarelia.

Then upon one late summer morning, the country of Tarelia was blessed with a beautiful baby princess. The whole country celebrated, because the baby was the answer to many prayers; King Zan would have named his advisor's young son, Henric, the new heir to the throne.

Lord Athodemus took the news of his granddaughter's birth very well...if you consider the fact that the 2,000-year-old fairy was skipping down corridors and kissing courtiers as he passed good things.

Not every one was as ecstatic as Athodemus. Zan's advisor Marco was furious, though he tried not to show his displeasure. His son would have been next inline for the throne if the princess had not been born... but there were many ways to fix that between now and the naming party in one year...

The king and queen loved their daughter with all their hearts, and in the first eight months they never let her out of their sight once, and their vigilance was surpassed only by Zan's relationships with his trusted knights, and wizards.

Marco could not get close enough to the princess without Zan's guard dog gaze, and Bernadette's suspicious stare following him. Plus he had more pressing matters to attend to.

'Sire you must listen to me!' Marco pleaded with Zan as they walked down a corridor in Caperoni Castle.

'Tollone has been moving our borders back! We've lost well over 1000 acres of the Charmed Wood already, and they're still pushing! We must put a stop to this!' Zan thought carefully for a moment,

'YES! Yes I have an idea!' he seemed practically giddy about it.

'May I inquire as to what this thought is, sire?' asked Marco hesitantly.

'A merge!' shouted Zan little too enthusiastically (several courtiers and servants looked at them quizzically)

'I think I'll write to king Gavin right now! His son is...hmm... how old is he now? Two? Maybe three?'

'Two sire' said the castle's resident Wizard, a well dressed man with black hair named Rigel. The king and Rigel were bonded by a trust deeper than that he shared with Marco, which angered the advisor greatly.

'But that's not the point!' blurted out Marco, glaring at Rigel, this would ruin everything he'd worked so hard for. Rigel simply smiled knowingly and continued walking down the corridor.

Zan shook his head at Marco's insolence. 'Now Marco, think of the good that will come of this! Gavin has just lost his wife, the poor man! This is a cheerful proposition! And if he accepts, the people will have more resources available, more protection, and they will have the original monarchs!' Zan had proved his point and would not be swayed from his decision.

A few days later a reply came from Gavin, agreeing to the betrothal of his son and the baby princess; they would be wed when the princess was 20, a tradition that all Tarelian princesses followed.

Marco knew he could not let this happen. At a routine meeting with Mortaro, king Gavin's advisor, it hit Marco- a way to get everything.

He quickly outlined his idea with Mortaro.

"We stage a war! All we have to do is nettle that self-obsessed Goblin King Yured into attacking!'

'How do we get rid of Zan and Gavin though? They will be guarded and the Brocklebanian forces will have to get them at the same time, otherwise whoever is left will send reinforcements, not to mention Athodemus' faeries."

"And if they split up, they will be out numbered for sure.' replied Mortaro, sipping his tea thoughtfully.

'True, true, if there was some way we could get them together and end it quickly...' Mortaro looked up.

'We? I never said I'd help, I hope you know I'm just humoring you, you can't be serious about this, I mean a usurping of this magnitude, if it fails...'

'Spare me the lecture I'm due to get one from Zan at that stupid naming party...' his eyes widened

'...THAT'S IT! They can attack at the naming party! Why didn't I think of it before! Both of them will be there as well as their knights, only dress armor too!"

On a second thought he added a final part to the plan, "We can blame it all on the Wizards! I'd love to see Rigel and his friends clapped in irons smirk at that! This is perfect! We have to get to work on this immediately!'

Mortaro stood up indignantly

'Now see here! I will not help you in this... this crackpot scheme!' Marco pulled a lethal looking dagger out of his belt, and pointed it at Mortaro.

'You will help me, or when I take over there wont be enough left of you left for a proper funeral...'

The princess' naming party went on without a hitch, elegant dresses, gourmet food, and laughter of all kinds filled the ballroom. The wizards present were performing magic for the crowds. Every one was enjoying themselves, except the faeries invited. Each one wore a look of unease and suspicion, Queen Bernadette especially. She and her father, Athodemus, could not enjoy the party.

'Something is going to happen.' Bernadette whispered to her father. 'And Marco has something to do with It.' she narrowed her eyes at the in dislike at the advisor, speaking with Rigel and his young Apprentice Edward, in a most unnatural way. She could see how uncomfortable Edward, at 16 acted around Marco. Bernadette knew that Edward liked most everyone, even faeries. And Most every one liked him, he was a very handsome young man with red-hair and pale green eyes, the daughters of many of Zan's courtiers had been eyeing him all night. But when Marco came near, he froze up, like he feared the advisor. Bernadette herself had never trusted him, his shifty blue-gray eyes unnerving her every time she caught his glance.

Zan on the other hand was as happy as ever, dancing with his wife and guests, his red hair easily distinguishing him from the rest.

Marco was especially pleased; his conversation with the Brocklebanian ambassador had been very reassuring,

'Don't worry about it,' the stick figure Goblin had said throatily, taking the small fortune Marco had given him for the service.

'It's all taken care of.'

As the party winded to a close, Zan prepared to announce his news.

'Ladies and gentle men, kings, and queens, creatures of high esteem, lords and ladies of the courts of myself and my friends,' he began

'I am pleased and honored to have you all here on such a momentous occasion'

Marco smirked, momentous indeed.

'Tonight, after the traditional year of waiting, my wife and I have chosen a name for our beautiful daughter!' cheering and applause greeted these words.

'We decided that since it was our people's dearest wish for her to be born,' he paused looking around; he could have sworn he heard something.

Marco began his countdown

'Five, four,'

'Her name shall be' continued Zan

'Three' whiskered Marco

'Desiree,' Zan announced, placing a thin filigree chain with a pendant on it around his tiny child's neck 'and she shall be...'

'Two, come on hurry!' Marco was fairly hissing.

'My heir to the throne!' more cheers met this, Marco was almost crying

'Wa-wa-one-huhu!' The ambassador had lied! He should never have trusted the goblin! His son would never be king now, never...

Suddenly the goblin army, evil creatures that lurked deep within the Charmed Forest, burst through the door with the Goblin king Yured at their front. Yured was smaller than any of his fellow goblins, but he was a vicious, cruel being. He had never adopted the ancient treaty with the faeries, and believed that it was every race for them selves.

'LATE!' shouted Marco at Yured in a rage. Everyone's screams disguised his voice, and none pointed the traitor out.

Zan and Gavin drew their swords to fight alone, but a great deal of their knights stood by them to help,

'Zan and I may have our differences, but we know when a fight must be fought alone!'

'That's right Gavin' agreed Zan,

'We will go down for country and valor then!'

The knights stood firm and all shouted together, 'FOR KING COUNTRY AND VALOR!'

Nothing would sway any of the men from their kings. No number of enemies would break their trust.

The Queen, lord Athodemus, ran out with many of the frightened guests. One of Gavin's Wizards, Aldebaran, a tall young man of 25, had scooped up the prince and run to catch up with them. Athodemus was looking worried as he glanced around.

'I can take both of them to the faerie realm, they'll be safe there.' he offered.

'No' replied Bernadette. 'They will come for you next, go back in and help Zan, they could use a faerie, don't worry, I have an idea.'

'Not yet, I'll stay here for a few moments, it might look suspicious' Bernadette nodded and turned to Aldebaran, who held the young, expressionless prince.

'Take him back to Tollone, he will be safer there than any where else!' Aldebaran nodded and began to leave.

'Wait!' Bernadette shouted after him. 'Take this,' she took the chain and pendant off the princess' neck.

'When you meet a man named Saul, give him this and tell only him, that it's from her mother.'

He took it warily, magical faerie gifts were created from wild magic, and were hard to control, but he nodded again to show he understood.

He looked at her and said, 'I will do everything in my power to help this boy grow, and understand what has happened here this night. I will take him on as an apprentice, and He will come out of hiding when he is ready, and take back the throne. He will avenge his father and your husband.'

Bernadette could not hold back the tears as she watched them go, knowing she would soon have to say good bye to another.

'Bernadette,' whispered her father, 'Do not cry, this is far from over, and you will see her again.'

' I will take her and go far from here, make sure she stays safe, I trust you will find a suitable place for yourself.' she whispered to her father. Athodemus hugged his daughter and the baby and hurried back inside. Bernadette winked at her small baby and all of a sudden, was not a young faerie any more, but a wheezing old crone. She and the baby walked surprisingly quickly down the road.

Back inside the castle the battle raged, faeries, knights and Wizards fought together against the furious onslaught of the goblins and their evil soldiers. Athodemus looked around as he entered and saw many of his friends, human and faerie lying slain on the tiled floor. He ducked several sling stones from the goblin horde, and positioned himself behind an upturned table.

Athodemus was surprised to see Rigel, a man who he did not particularly agree with also lying there. Rigel looked up at him and requested a favor. Athodemus realized that the great Wizard was fatally wounded; he was clutching a dagger's hilt to his chest.

"I must apologize for never showing you the respect that you deserve," began Rigel, wincing in pain. "But I must also tell you a grave secret, and you must swear to shed the light when the time is right. Do you swear?" Athodemus took Rigel's free hand and asked, "What would you have me do?" "Swear first! Please, it is of a serious matter!"

Helpless, Athodemus swore to tell the truth when the time came. "His majesty bid me see into the future for him last night and…" Rigel's breathing grew slower, and he coughed up deep crimson blood. "And what I saw was a terrible truth! This night was revealed to me,"

Confused, Athodemus asked "Why do you need to pass this to me?" Rigel nodded and replied "I informed the king, but he refused to listen, so I told my apprentice, but I have not seen him since the clash began. I cannot let this secret die with me!

I also saw a great dragon of the forest angered by something, but his vengeance was great. You must keep my vision from happening! If it becomes true, the kingdoms are doomed! The Dragon gave me this prophecy: "when the wizard becomes his star, and the light of the sun is revealed…'" the rest of his prophecy was drowned out to all other ears by the triumphant howl of a werewolf, who had managed to reach Zan and Gavin. The courtiers and guests where raked with grief. Their kings had perished; their last hope of survival had vanished.

Yured lifted up his iron helmet and surveyed the scene with angry red rimmed eyes. His green-yellow skin was spattered with blood as he approached the fallen rulers, but he stopped short, in the silence he heard whispering. Yured strode to the fallen table and with a powerful kick sent it flying over the head of Rigel. Athodemus had vanished.

Recognizing Rigel as the one who was to be blamed for the attack, Yured drew his long curved sword, and the light glinted pitilessly off it. He raised it up and prepared to end the life of the fading Rigel. A scream of rage broke the silence, and a rushing figure grabbed Yured from behind. "You will not harm Rigel!"

Edward, Rigel's apprentice had snapped.

His master was his only family, who had taught him everything he knew, and he was not keen on seeing him so sadistically disposed of. Edward fought madly, but was soon restrained by a large stone colored troll with a tuft of red matted hair on his enormous head. Tossed to the side like a rag doll, Edward looked up to see Yured nudge his master with a boot.

"The sport is over, this one has fallen." gritted Yured's steely voice. Though a vindictive goblin, Yured knew when he had gone too far. "Let us go," He said to his generals, "We have done what we had to do."

As the goblins left, the people of Tollone and Tarelia stared in awe. Edward pulled himself up and started to head after them, but stopped, he felt something was wrong. Marco was standing with a somber look upon his cunning features, and had begun to make a speech."People of Tarelia, and Tollone, I like you are devastated by the violence of this night. However, I do not think that our beloved friends would want us to weep, we must rebuild!

I shall hold the throne until the Queen returns, and if she does not, my line will gladly take the kingdom out of the ashes of this terrible occurrence, and raise us higher than we have ever been!" there was some applause for his stirring dialogue. Edward walked away in disgust. "These people know not what they risk to follow this maniac wherever he leads them." he thought. "I must see that the princess takes back the throne, no matter what." Edward vowed. He left the castle, and began heading down the road the opposite way the queen had taken the princess in disguise.

The crone-Bernadette whispered to the small bundle that was her daughter, 'My little princess, everything will be ok and turn out fine, you have so many friends and allies and you are not even aware of how you would use them.' she sighed and looked back at the palace where the peace three countries had been enjoying, was shattered by one greedy man. 'We must never give up hope.'
