Luckily Peter was just sitting in the bench at the park near the shop. Joline had a pretty keen eye and was relieved to saw Peter slumping on his seat. She slowly approached him.
"Hey," She said with a slight smile, making Peter look up to her. "Can I have a seat? If you charge, I can pay with coffee and donuts?" She tried to joke to make him feel better. Peter just looked up and sighed, and Joline took that opportunity to sit down.
They sat in silence for a while next to each other. After 10 silent minutes Joline finally huffed.
"Are you going to take the cup of coffee from my hand or what? I want to dip into my donuts here," She scowled as she felt her tummy rumble.
"Sorry," He apologized softly and appreciatively took the coffee from her hand. Joline smiled happily after that, hands free to get her favorite mint donut. Just as she was about to munch on the donut she stopped and looked at Peter who looked like he had a lot on his mind, then sighed.
"Fine, here. Have this," She said as she gave her favourite mint donut to him.
"But that's your favourite--"
"Just take it. It'll make you feel better." She motioned for him to take, which he did, appreciatively.
"Thanks."
He drunk in the coffee and ate the mint donut in thought. He never expected Ned and MJ to get together. It kinda hurt in a way, but that was the price he had to pay when he made a 'deal with the devil'... Or, wizard.
He eyed Joline through the corner of his eyes. She was staring at a flock of birds in the distance. She occasionally munched on the plain donut that was supposed to be his and drank her apple juice.
"They got together a week ago, you know?"
Ned and MJ.
His breath trembled.
"Turns out they've liked each other for a long time." She explained, and Peter snapped his head to look at her in shock.
"They said that?"
Joline turned to look at him and nodded.
"I asked them." She answered grimly. "Sorry, Peter."
He blinked.
"Why are you apologizing for something you didn't do?" He asked, curious.
"Because I don't want you to feel bad." She answered truthfully, looking down. "I dragged you to the shop not knowing-"
"It's not your fault." He said softly, making Joline look up and to his eyes.
"I'm alright." He convinced her with a slight smile. "I've got to move on anyways," He added with a whisper.
It was the 22nd of December. Peter laid in his bed in thought. He stared at the ceiling, thinking about that day he and Joline met MJ and Ned.
He then stared at the suit in wonder and sighed. If only things happened differently...
His head turned to the door as he felt someone's presence. It must've been Joline. Who else? she was always there.
"Peter? Are you there?" Joline knocked on the door to his apartment. It looked more tidier than before, but still messy. A lot of his Spider-Man related stuff lie out and about his room, and Peter quickly panicked and hid them all.
"I'm coming!" He replied back, quickly throwing his uniform into the closet. He always have webshooters on him though, as he could hide them under his long sleeved plaids because of winter. Come to think of it, he doesn't wear short sleeved shirts much. When he does, he usually wears an outer jacket.
Peter almost stumbled over a stack of books on the floor but finally got to the door. He opened it just enough and covered his room with his body. Joline haad commented on it the few occassions she knocked on his door, and finally concluded that he was just hiding his messy room.
"Hey, Joline." He greeted breathelessly as he took the sight of her in. Joline was wearing a beige long sleeved turtleneck sweater and black jeggings. Her hair was in it's usual waves, and the look was completed with a burgundy beanie. She looked warm.
"Hey, Peter." Joline smiled and gave him a wave.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked with a smile.
"Are you free?" She questioned, head tilting.
He thought back throughout every moment she asked that question. She ended up taking him somewhere to do various activities. A few times he had declined because he had stuff to do, and at those times Joline's sparkly eyes quickly turned dull and sad. She quickly hid it with a smile and simply went back to her apartment.
"Peter?" She snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Oh- sorry." He apologized. "Yeah, I'm free."
She giggled excitedly.
"Good!" She clapped "So, If I took you... Somewhere... Would you like to go?" She asked nervously, still smiling.
Peter didn't dare to reject as he saw her smile that made his heart warm.
"Yeah, why not?" He answered with a chuckle.
Joline squealed and jumped around excitedly.
"Great! Wear something warm, I heard that it'll be cold outside." She said with a smile, then gasped.
"I forgot something in my apartment!" She said, walking to her apartment. "Meet me downstairs in 5, okay?"
"Sure." Peter smiled and they went back inside to their own apartments.
His back meets the door as he closed it in thought. He chuckled as he remembered how giddy Joline was as he said yes, then shook his head. He went to his closet to change into warm clothes.
"I wonder where we'll go this time..." He muttered to himself.
It's always a fun time with Joline around.
"Huh," He realized,
"We..."
