A/N

this is an original story and i hope to use it later. the plot is my creation, and(though it is a bit twisted)i hope to use it later and really publish a version of it.

here we see the nicer ballancing side of Henric. try and judge him now!

we also meet Henric's only "friend" a large man named Stennett, who i would describe as a Lenny figure, (from of mice and men) i honestly didnt plan that and it scared me when i realized that, i hated the ending of the book. too depressing.

well any way, we meet the vain and superflous/pompous Wizard Menkar, one of the rogue Wizards that Saul was talking about earlier.

to those of you who are thinking "what? when did he mention that? look back to chapter 7. it's in the middle, and next time pay attention!

Chapter 10

The mercy of Prince Henric

After calling upon another servant to clean up his mess, Henric called on one of the Guard Captains, an Ox-like man named Stenett, a fairly young man, whom Henric personally liked for his brute force and slow thinking mind. If Henric had ever allowed himself to trust someone enough to call them a friend, Stenett would have been his only one.

"I need you to go into the town of Hadsworth," began Henric slyly.

"There is someone that I need to help me with a new plan I've been working on. His trade calls him Rigel, but his real name is Edward Harps. He is a wizard."

Stenett visibly blanched, "A - um- A wizard your highness?"

Henric glared at him, "Yes, a wizard, He has been in hiding for some time, and I have just received some new information about his and his accomplices' whereabouts. You will take my personal Wizard, Menkar, find Rigel, and bring him here, along with whoever he is hiding with. He may have some guests with him that I should like to speak with."

Menkar walked into the room, tall and graceful, but he had an air about him that frightened many. His eyes were a grainy yellow, a side effect from the black magic he performed. The strange eyes were bordered by extremely high, thin and gray eyebrows. He wore a cloak of deepest gold, whose sleeves draped elegantly in the most fashionable way.

He had left the Wizard's Confederation Council because of his intense desire to be the head of the Council. However, Aldebaran and his apprentice had stopped him. The apprentice was the one who had discovered Menkar's plot to overthrow the council.

The boy himself had caused many problems over the 10 years he had been an apprentice. He acted above his station, like he was the commander of the council, and not a lowly apprentice. Menkar' punishment for plotting against the council was to be banished, but he was able to keep his life.

"If we ran the council the way it was a thousand years ago, you would have lost your head." Aldebaran had said. "Consider yourself blessed by the stars that we will not give chase once you leave the council hall."

Menkar wanted revenge on the council for forcing him out because of his hatred.

"Ah, my lord, there you are! I have been looking for you all over the castle. Who am I to take on my glorious quest of devastation?"

Henric greeted him with a civil nod, but the ice in his voice was apparent, Henric did not trust him. "Menkar, you will take my friend Stenett with you. I trust he will be of great use to you." Henric shot Stenett a glare that clearly said what he would do if that was not the case.

"Y-yes that's me sir." gulped Stenett in response. "We are headed to Hadsworth right?"

Menkar stared haughtily at the bulky Stenett. "Yes," Menkar eyed him head to toe. "My lord, is there no one a little more… refined? I believe that this one is only fit for a trans-mortification spell. Perhaps a nice bull. Or maybe a llama?"

Stenett's eyes grew wide with fear.

Quickly sensing that he would soon need a new captain, Henric stepped in. "Now Menkar, please, we need Stenett. He is the only one…err…" Henric thought for a moment. "…capable enough for such a task." Menkar seemed satisfied with this and huffed a dramatic "If you insist!" and swept out of the room, leaving Stenett and Henric in a stony silence.

"Thank you my lord." whispered Stenett in a quiet voice. He too left the room. When Henric was alone, he resumed his pacing, this time cursing himself for being too soft.
