Spoilers - Season 2 'Charge of the Post'

"I'm going to get you through this, Don."

"Those words echo in my mind as if they are a bad dream. Don Flack. My Friend and Colleague in a critical condition in hospital, and there is nothing I can do."

"And that's what gets me most. I can do nothing. I sit, and wait. And let fate take its course. I'm not sure I believe in fate. I know where that word originated from. The unseen power that rules the destinies of men, personified by the ancient Greeks under the name of Moirai or Fates. Three sisters called Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. A belief that the destiny of men and gods alike were fixed."

"But I don't believe this. I know that though God knows from the beginning of time, to the end of time what is going to happen, He does not will everything to happen. He does not will Sin to happen; He only permits it. Sin is the act of Man and man alone. Yet I'm still angry Father…"

Mac sat silently. Waiting for Father Lucas to reply.

"I understand your anger, yet you must have faith. It is through these testing times that we must persevere and stand strong."

"I understand Father…"

Mac was sat down on the front pew, watching Father Lucas lead the congregation. But where he would normally find comfort in his words, he found nothing. Mac was about to rise and leave, but it was then he heard Lucas say:

"Now If you could please turn to page 562, where I shall recite Psalm 35."

Looking up at the Father, he saw that he was looking directly at him. Then gave a slight nod. Mac nodded back, understanding that these words were for Mac. And so he brought his hands together as a gesture of prayer. He let his eyes slide shut, as the familiar words were recited.

" Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me!"

Mac closed his eyes, as the familiar words were recited to him while his hands came together a the gesture of prayer.

" Take hold of shield and buckler,
and rise up to help me!"

I know my faith is strong, but at times I feel you are absent.

" Draw the spear and javelin
against my pursuers;
say to my soul,
"I am your salvation."

You may stand by me and protect me. But what about Don? Does he not deserve your love and protection. Don't you offer him salvation?

" Let them be put to shame and dishonour
who seek after my life.
Let them be turned back and confounded
who devise evil against me."

I care for my friends Lord, what of those who seek their lives?

" Let them be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the LORD driving them on.

Let their way be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the LORD pursuing them."

Where are your Angels? Where are you ,my Lord?

"For without cause they hid their net for me;
without cause they dug a pit for my life."

My life! Not Don's. Why is he the one that is suffering?

"Let ruin come on them unawares.
And let the net that they hid ensnare them;
let them fall in it--to their ruin…."
