Chapter 5: The Wrath of Inko Midoriya
A/N: Trigger Warning for self-harm ahead.
It was the day after New Year's, and Izuku was running off to an abandoned construction site to meet his idols' old mentor. He got to the train and did his traditional look around for Hiro, but he had no luck in finding him as usual. He got to the construction site at around 8 in the morning rather than the usual 5 because he was told by All Might in advance that his former mentor wasn't an early riser like he was. He saw his mentor in his usual skinny form, but he also saw a squat old man with a beard in a hero costume. Izuku paused because he recognized a lot of heroes in Japan, but he didn't recognize this one.
"Hello sir. I'm Izuku Midoriya, it is a pleasure to meet you sir." Izuku introduced himself to the old man.
"Hey there zygote!" the old man yelled out, and in an instant, he was gone… and Izuku was flat out on his stomach, and his head was aching. He made sure to feel his face and was grateful when he felt his nose wasn't broken. He eventually got up and then noticed All Might was shaking and doing a very poor job of keeping himself together. Now Izuku understood why he was afraid of his former mentor. It was at that very moment, that he remembered an old phrase: "Never judge a book by its cover."
Next thing he noticed was that the old man was next to All Might's side again. Knowing that there was a very high likelihood that he was going to attack again. Izuku immediately reached out and shot a couple fire balls at the old man, but he was gone again before the flames even reached him. Izuku instinctively turned around and saw the old man was behind him. He did not have the time to mount a defense before he was hit again by the old man. Fortunately this time Izuku wasn't down on the ground.
"Smart to attack back at once." The old man cheered. "However, your speed is terrible. You are stiff as a board, and your actions have no fluidity. You are nowhere near landing a hit on me." With that the old man was again right back at All Might's side.
"Young Midoriya, this is Gran Torino. He'll be here for the next few days to help train you, and then he'll be heading back home."
"Which means we have to make every second count then." Gran Torino responded, and next thing Izuku knew, he was on his butt again. "Come on boy! Show me why Toshinori chose you as his successor! All I see is a boy who keeps falling over!"
Izuku wordlessly got up, not daring to say a word because he felt that if he opened his mouth he'd be hit again for being distracted from his goal. He stood still and decided to conjure a wall of flames that encircled him. This was an ability that Izuku was still working on, the flames were weak and not all that hot, and it also took an immense amount of concentration just to keep them in existence.
"Smart move boy." Gran Torino mused. "Creating a shield and focusing on defense when you are up against an enemy you are poorly matched for." But next thing Izuku knew, he took a blow to the small of his back and his green flames were gone. "However your flames won't do a thing to me if I'm too fast for them to touch me!"
Izuku then retaliated by crushing anything Gran Torino landed on with his psychokinetic quirk.
"He may be able to land there once, but he would have unstable footing the next time he tried to land there. Let's see how you deal with that!"
However, Gran Torino was too skilled to be undermined by such as simple tactic. Izuku got more and more frustrated as he couldn't land a hit on the old man.
At one point after getting hit twice back to back Izuku stood still again for a moment. He felt One For All enter his system, he felt it rush through his entire body
"I can't punch Gran Torino with One For All though! I'd kill him! I have to find a way to tone down all this power before it hurts me and everyone around me!" Izuku thought to himself. "Think! Think! Think Izuku! There has to be something simple that can reduce this power! Dear goodness, it's starting to hurt! Come on Izuku! You are smarter than this! Something to dim the power down…. Wait! That's it! A dimmer switch!"
He slowly focused on turning the power down, and slowly he felt One For All stabilize within him. There was still one question remaining: "Okay I got that down. Now how to I stop an opponent that's so fast? Do I attempt to copy his style and try to catch up to him? Worth a shot!"
He jumped, and started to give chase to Gran Torino. However he couldn't catch him no matter how much he tried. It also didn't help that he had crushed nearly every smooth surface he could've bounce off of. While he managed to avoid getting hit for once, he failed to land a hit on Gran Torino
They eventually paused. "Excellent job boy, it seems that you have learned that you need to have One For All running through your whole body all the time in order to use it properly." Gran Torino mused as he did some stretches. "However, let's have another go right now." With that the old man started jumping around again.
This went on for another thirty minutes before they decided to take a break. Izuku was feeling broken and demoralized leaning against a cargo pallet of bricks. "How did you survive with him teaching you All Might?" Izuku gasped out after drinking from a bottle of water that he packed in his bag.
"I honestly have no clue Young Midoriya." All Might mused looking at his master who was eating a pastry. "I also have no clue how he is still alive given that all he eats is sweets."
"Are you saying he has never learned how to cook?" Izuku whispered, not wanting Gran Torino to hear him criticizing him.
"If he knows how to cook anything that does not involved a pre-packaged microwave meal, then I'll eat one of these bricks were laying against." All Might whispered back. "Then I'll be literally shitting bricks."
(Insert Deku shocked theme)
"Oh my God! All Might said a swear word! No this can't be! I must be having a nightmare! No this can't be happening!" His face had no emotion, no expression. He simply stared off into space, his eyes blank.
"Midoriya?" All Might asked looking very concerned, but Izuku didn't respond, and he stared blankly still in shock. All Might then shook Midoriya gently, but still to no avail. "MIDORIYA!" All Might shouted, changing into his muscle form.
"Wa?!What!?" Izuku stammered really fast.
"You were staring off into space my boy!" All Might mused. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"No I'm not okay!" Izuku screamed out, and this caused Gran Torino and All Might to stare right at him.
"What's wrong Young Midoriya?!" All Might said very worryingly
"I just heard All Might swear!" Izuku cried out, tears flowing freely like waterfalls from his eyes. Gran Torino and All Might just stared at him blankly as Izuku entered one of his unintelligible mumbling phases with tears coming out of his eyes.
"Woah calm down there Midoriya!" All Might gasped trying not to laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. "Midoriya! Do you honestly think we heroes act like holier than thou people when we aren't in the public eye?"
"YES!" Izuku cried, and this caused both Gran Torino and All Might to nearly fall over as both of them face palmed.
"Yes Midoriya, we are heroes, but we are also normal people with normal lives and do normal things when we aren't saving people." All Might mused, still trying to control his laughter. "Have you never imagined heroes doing ordinary things like laundry or accidentally spilling their food on the ground?"
"Ummm… No." Izuku mused looking embarrassed. "It never really crossed my mind actually." Izuku looked down at the ground looking ashamed at himself.
"Dear boy!" All Might kept laughing, he thought he himself was going to pass out from laughing so much. "Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved in being a hero?! We spend more time filling out paperwork than we do actually saving people. Did you know it takes on average two hours of administrative work for every person you save?"
"WHAT?!" Izuku exclaimed. "That's way too much paperwork!"
"Of course! Why else do you think one of a Hero Agency's top expenses involve secretarial work?" All Might mused. "You have to be familiar with all sorts of insurance protocols, government regulations, building codes and the such. There is a lot more to being a hero than being strong at fighting or rescuing people! You honestly didn't factor that into being a hero?"
"No, all I thought about was saving people." Izuku said guiltily, his face and body full of shame.
"Well no need to worry Midoriya. They'll teach that stuff to you at UA." All Might finished standing up. "I still remember the basics, but not enough to actually teach. When you become the number one hero, you can hire people to take care of that stuff for you."
"Anyways! Break time is over!" Gran Torino shouted and Izuku was knocked out from a swift kick to the head.
It was an hour or so later that Izuku awoke barely able to see All Might and Gran Torino discussing among themselves. "Young Midoriya! Finally awake I see!" He loudly declared in his power form. Izuku instinctively put his hands over his ears.
"Too loud All Might." Izuku moaned, now putting a hand over his head and another over his stomach. All Might went skinny again and walked over appearing to what Izuku with what appeared to be a concerned expression. However, Izuku couldn't really tell because his vision was blurry. Was he becoming like Iida and need glasses?
"Midoriya…" All Might whispered, kneeling down in front of him. "How are you feeling?"
"Like shit…" Izuku responded, and then immediately put a hand over his mouth, and this made All Might chuckle.
"No kidding kid, can you be more specific?"
"I feel like I might need glasses soon. I also feel like I'm going to puke, which won't help this massive pounding headache. Oh, and I feel like if I tried to stand up right now, I'd fall back down." Izuku mumbled clutching his body.
"Sounds like I accidentally gave you a concussion kid." Gran Torino responded mournfully. "I'm sorry kid. I was merely trying to knock you over, but I over did it. Toshinori, you'll have to take him to the hospital now."
"Hold on." Izuku mumbled, "Let me try and heal myself first."
"Midoriya, healing yourself requires a lot of stamina." All Might protested . "Doing it when you are too low on energy can do more harm than good."
"Let me at least try first." Izuku responded back with clear annoyance in his voice. "Besides Mom would flip out if she heard I got a concussion or wound up in the hospital while training. She already didn't like the cuts and scrapes I was coming home with before I learned I could heal them."
With that he put his hand to his head and a gold aura full of sparkles encircled his hand, and then his head. The aura persisted for around him for about 30 seconds before it faded away. "There, all my symptoms are gone." Izuku mumbled, "I honestly didn't expect to heal something like a concussion on the first go given all I've been able to heal fully are the scrapes and bruises I get in my training every day. Guess reading about human anatomy and biology was the training I needed for that quirk. However I want to go home and rest now."
"Good idea, we'll call it a day here then. Both of us will be here same time tomorrow." All Might responded kindly, "However that'll be the last day Gran Torino can be here. Something came up that needs his attention and he'll have to leave sooner than expected."
With that, the trio parted ways and headed back home. However, none of them noticed a black mist that was hiding in the shadows. However, once everyone was out of sight, the mist vanished.
Izuku ran home, once he got inside AND…. he forgot to take his shoes off which got him a yelling from his mother and then he was told to shower at once as usual. The concussion was gone, but he still rubbed his head in the mirror when he was checking his face out to see if he got facial hair. He had heard some boys get some at this age, but he had no luck. However he was grateful he didn't develop any acne during puberty. He eventually got dressed and sat down with his mother who had prepared his favorite dish, Katsudon.
"So Izuku how was your training today?" Inko asked her son, trying to see if he had any injuries, but unable to find any apparent ones.
"Training was great mom!" Izuku responded after a particularly large bite of pork. "I think I'll have no problem with practical portion the entrance exam."
"I'm glad to hear it son." Inko cheered. "I'm also happy you aren't covered in injuries like you were earlier when you started this routine."
"Oh that's only because I learned to heal myself with my quirk." Izuku muttered before he could stop himself, and then he felt his heart stop as his mother gave him…. The look…
"Izuku…" Inko said dangerously with what appeared to be a red demonic aura surrounding her.
"Mom…" Izuku responded with clear fear in his voice, "Why did I have to open my mouth and blab?"
"You have been getting hurt and injured, seriously for all I know, and I haven't heard a lick of it. Explain… Now…" Inko responded with a villainous voice that only a mother could produce.
"Well…" Izuku started, his face turning red. He felt his body's temperature rise dramatically, and fear run through his body as it started to tremor. "Come on Izuku think! There has to be a way out of this!"
"Well… WHAT!?" Inko responded, her eyes narrowing, and Izuku started to eat as an excuse not to talk. "Put your food down or that will be the last bite you eat tonight! Now answer my question Izuku Midoriya! Now…"
At this point Izuku could feel every single heartbeat in his chest. He wasn't afraid of many things. He wasn't afraid of Katsuki Bakugo anymore, and Gran Torino was intimidating, but his mother was apocalyptically terrifying. He swore that she had a second quirk that made anyone deathly afraid of her. He took a deep breath and spoke even though he desperately wanted to run to his room and lock the door. Although he knew that wouldn't work because she could simply knock the door down and he won't have any form of privacy after that.
"Well you know how I can heal my plants if they are hurt…" Izuku whisper mumbled.
"Well yes Izuku. Where are you going with this?" Inko pressured, her eyes full of what appeared to be malice.
"Well, it isn't limited to plants. It can apply to all living things, even myself." Izuku said, his head hanging because he was too afraid to look his mother in the eyes. "How can she quickly turn from the most loving person in the universe to the scariest thing alive?"
"That's why I come back tired after every day of training. We work up to the point where I have just enough stamina left to heal myself and then I head home."
Inko glared at her son. Izuku looked up at her and instantly regretted it and put his head back down. "And when did you plan on telling me this?" Izuku didn't respond out of fear, his entire body was shaking.
"Crap! Crap! I'm in serious trouble now! It never crossed my mind to tell my mom! Come on Izuku! THINK!"
"IZUKU MIDORIYA! ANSWER YOUR MOTHER'S QUESTION!"
Izuku literally jumped, his knee slammed up to the bottom of the table knocking over his glass of water. Now he really felt his heart pounding, like it was trying to escape his chest and fly away. "Mo… Mom…." Izuku stammered. "I… was… afraid to tell you… because I knew… you'd be mad…"
"You still haven't answered my question! WHEN! Were! You! Planning! On! Telling! Me!" Inko probed towards her son.
"I…didn't have a plan on when I was going to tell you?" Izuku mumbled in a slow but high pitched voice. "I never thought to tell you.." Izuku looked up at his mother who was visibly furious. "Can I go to my room now? I think I'm done with dinner…"
"No you are most certainly not excused young man!" Inko lashed back, Izuku winced. He thought he lost all motor functions in his face. "You are going to tell me every single injury you have healed on your body young man!"
With that Izuku muttered about all the times he healed scrapes and the such, he didn't mention the broken arm caused by One For All, he didn't want her to flip the table. However he entered one his mumbling phases and lost track of what he was saying, "And today I accidentally gave myself a concussion…" It was at this moment he realized he was mumbling and froze. "Fuck…."
"YOU GAVE YOURSELF A CONCUSSION TODAY?!" Inko yelled out.
"Yeah, but I healed it." Izuku whimpered, oh how he wanted to curl up into a ball in his bed.
"How do you know you healed it properly!?" Inko shot back.
"I feel better! All the symptoms are gone…" Izuku feebly argued back. "I've been reading up on medical textbooks to make sure I could heal my injuries properly…"
With that Inko slowly took a few long breaths, her eyes remaining closed. "Here is what is going to happen now son." Izuku braced himself, his hands gripping the sides of his chair, knuckles turning white.
"Well crap… There goes all my future freedom… I'm doomed…"
"Tomorrow we are going to go to the doctor and they are going to run EVERY test possible on you."
"A full examination!?" Izuku freaked out. "NOT THAT! NOT THAT! Please not that!"
Dr. Yamato had a quirk that allowed her to examine the entire body and then transfer the data she collected onto a computer so it could be archived. However, in order for her to use the quirk, Izuku had to deal with one of his biggest fears.
"Yes a full examination!" his mother countered back. "Now you will hand me your phone and finish your dinner. I want you to do all the dishes before going to bed, and I'm going in your room and taking your laptop away."
With that Izuku finished his dinner in silence, and cleaned up while his mother muttered furiously under her breath. "Could've broken bones and you wouldn't have told me. Did you ever consider I would care to know if you were getting seriously injured? Never! I swore you were more responsible than this Izuku than to keep something this important from me. For all I know you could've been deliberately hurting yourself to get practice with this quirk! I thought you were better than this! Oh you are so lucky your father isn't around! You think I'm scary? I couldn't hold a candle up to him when he lost his temper. Here I was thinking you were a responsible teenager growing up to be a wonderful adult, but no! You just had to go and be rebellious and go around your mother's back!"
"This is just so unfair…" Izuku thought to himself and he slouched back to his room. "How am I going to train with Gran Torino if mom has me on lockdown tomorrow? And that was the last day Gran Torino could be there too? I really am a worthless pile of trash. I didn't think about how mom would want to know I was getting injured. Perhaps she is right… I am a terrible kid."
Izuku kept pacing around his room not having anything to do really because his mom took away all of his electronics. His thoughts still racing, and he eventually angrily flopped onto the bed.
"How can I be a good hero if I forget to tell the one's the care the most about me what is going on with me? She doesn't even know I have One For All for crying out loud? Shoot! Do I tell her about One For All? Can I? Should I talk with All Might first? Or should it be my decision who knows about that quirk? I mean she's my mom… But she might flip the entire building instead of the table if I told her I'd been keeping that from her. She'd probably run down to All Might's agency and give him a lecture too! I'm so screwed! What do I do? What do I do? Crap! Crap! Crap!"
Izuku kept thrashing about in his bed, and punching his pillow violently and tried to suffocate himself with it. That however didn't go well because he let out a kind of frustrated scream with his mouth closed that did not go unnoticed.
"You are 18 years old Izuku! A bit old to be throwing a temper tantrum young man!" His mother called out through the door, "I thought we didn't really need to keep those kinds of secrets from each other. For all I know you were deliberately hurting yourself and no mother wants their child to be doing that!"
With that Izuku flipped around from being on his stomach to being on his back, using his pillow as it was meant to be used. He'd heard of people purposefully hurting themselves in order to feel better. They had speakers come to his school to give speeches about mental health. There was one person who came in and told the story about them hurting themselves, something about slicing their skin open with a razor blade to feel better.
The whole concept of that idea was totally ridiculous to Izuku as he was in the assembly. "Why would anyone deliberately take a blade to their own skin for pleasure? Are there really people like that in the world? What would even drive people to do something like that? How could someone derive pleasure from hurting themselves?"
That's what Izuku thought as he was in the auditorium listening to the speaker, his thoughts so loud he never really got the answers the speaker was giving him. Everyone one else said the speaker must have been completely crazy to think that any of them would do something so stupid. No one at this school could understand why they had to have that lecture in the first place.
"Did mom seriously think I was doing something crazy like that?" Izuku thought to himself, "No way I would do something as insane as taking a razor blade to my skin! I don't even have an excuse to have a razor blade! I can't even grow any facial hair, and if dad's family tree is anything to look at, I'll never have any. Not to mention the idea of putting a sharp blade down... Nope... I will most definitely not think about that!"
Izuku couldn't fall asleep, his mind was just too agitated to do so, and without his phone he couldn't tell what time it was. He kept tossing an turning, until he did it so violently he cracked the bottom portion of his spine which sounded gross but felt oddly satisfying.
"Come on brain! Focus on sleep! I want to go to sleep and end this terrible day already!" However his mind refused to comply and kept reminding him of embarrassing stuff, and a result he again got too angry to fall asleep which only aggravated the problem. However, after what seemed forever he did manage to fall asleep.
The next day at 7am his mother woke him up with a VERY loud series of knocks at his door and this had effect of him waking up with his limbs flailing and falling out of bed twisted in his sheets.
"Great…. Just Great…" Izuku thought to himself as his heart raced as he attempted to extricate himself from his 'sheet cocoon' on the floor. His mother kept knocking and he eventually made it to his bedroom door. He was still pretty tired, he assumed he probably only got a few hours of sleep last night given how his brain rebelled against him.
"Yes mom?" Izuku grumbled, his eye lids still half closed and unable to focus.
"You can have your phone back." Inko said handing his phone out to him, "It won't stop buzzing. That trainer of yours is very persistent, and the constant vibrating has gotten on my nerves."
"I'll tell him I won't be free today." Izuku groaned as he took his phone back from his mother where it vibrated again.
"Be sure you do," his mother scolded, she was still clearly upset as she left and he closed the door.
Izuku unlocked his phone and looked down to see he had over 100 texts from All Might. "This is just going to be wonderful…" he thought as he called his trainer.
"MIDORIYA! WHERE ARE YOU?!" he heard All Might scream into his ear. This caused Izuku to flinch as he yanked the phone away from his ear.
"I'm grounded from training…" Izuku mumbled guiltily. There was about ten seconds of pause before he added on. "I never told my mom that I could heal myself and now she's all angry at me for not telling her. I let it slip at dinner and she went completely psycho! She's gone crazy thinking I've been deliberately hurting myself or something insane like that. She also squirmed out of me that I got a concussion yesterday, and now she is taking me to the doctor today."
However that is when Izuku lost it again, "I really screwed up Mr. Yagi. I don't know what to do. I lost my mother's trust. She thinks I'm mentally unstable and doing something unrealistic like hurting myself for fun or something else crazy and stupid. What is wrong with me? Am I really just a terrible person or something?"
There was another pause before All Might responded, "Gran Torino isn't going to like this but to be fair you did get a concussion yesterday and should've gone to the hospital. And don't worry about your mother or let her words get to you. You are her only child after all. She has every right to be paranoid about your safety. The fact is you know you haven't been hurting yourself. And it isn't as crazy as you think. When you become a pro hero, a year won't go by where you come across or have to help someone who has hurt themselves. People actually do that, so it isn't a thing to be joked about. Call me when you get ungrounded so we can resume your training."
With that All Might hung up and Izuku had to go in and clear his notifications out back down to zero so he could use his phone normally again. He stood there in his room for a few more minutes before heading off to the shower to get ready for the doctor.
Breakfast was a cold affair, his mother wasn't really speaking to him. Izuku helped himself to a bowl of cereal while nervously trying to ignore his mother. The conversation he just had with All Might still going through his head. Eventually they went down to the parking garage to pick up his mother's car, a nice but very tiny yellow convertible, and went on their way to the doctor's office. The drive being a silent affair just like breakfast.
Once inside the receptionist immediately recognized Izuku. "Hey there Izuku, you are growing up into a fine young man aren't yah? I remember when you were a little tyke excited to find out about your quirk." She teased. "So what brings you in to see Dr. Yamato today?"
"It turns out he has been using his quirk to heal himself without my knowledge so I want EVERY possible test done on him." Inko growled, her teeth stuck together trying to hold her anger in that was clearly directed at her son.
"I thought young Izuku could only heal plants?" The receptionist mused curiously looking at Izuku who's hands were in his pockets and looking down at the floor.
"I thought so too until last night when he let it slip." Inko responded in a menacingly growl.
"I'll let Dr. Yamato know of the situation." The receptionist sighed.
"Yes ma'am…" Izuku muttered, still not making eye contact. It was about twenty minutes of waiting and reading magazines that were about eight months out of date before Izuku was called in to the examination area. He left his mother behind and went inside. The nurses took his height, weight, and blood pressure and then told him to wait for the doctor.
After a while a woman in her mid 40s came in. Dr. Yamato was a good doctor, in fact she was the same doctor who had originally helped his mom through the whole nightmare of filing his quirk(s) registration; that was mainly because the government didn't believe that she had done her job properly, given that she was fresh out of medical school when she opened up her practice. Inko in fact almost didn't have Izuku see Dr. Yamato when he was younger for that reason, but she gave her a chance after the doctor Mitsuki recommended just gave her the creeps, so she gave this new doctor a chance. In fact they became close and good personal friends not long after meeting one another, and thus she was the only doctor Izuku remembered ever seeing. He just wished that she could stop the teasing from time to time, but that was made her good friends with his mother.
"Now Izuku, what brings you into see me today?" Dr. Yamato asked as she closed the door and sat down.
"Well…" Izuku started feeling uncomfortable. "My mom wants every test that can be done on me performed because she found I've been keeping the fact that I can heal myself with my quirk a secret from her, and I let it slip I suffered a concussion in my training yesterday."
Dr. Yamato looked at him with professional curiosity. "Midoriya, only you could come up with something this unique. It has been known that puberty sometimes has an influence in altering a quirks function or in some other manner. However, it usually happens during the early Tanner Stages, but not at the end where you are now; not to mention healing quirks are very rare, not only that but they are extremely hard to master. I understand your mother's concerns in your ability to heal yourself, but a concussion too? How long have you been healing yourself?"
"Nine months Dr. Yamato." Izuku responded. "I discovered I could heal myself after I healed one of my plants in my garden. I noticed afterwards I healed all the scratches and cuts that were on my hand."
"Okay then." Dr. Yamato muttered while making notes on her tablet. "Now, give me a rundown of all the injuries you have healed." This caused Izuku to panic because he hadn't told his mom about the broken arm.
"Are you going to tell my mother everything I tell you?" Izuku asked, clasping and wringing his hands, looking nervous.
"I have a strict code of patient confidentiality Midoriya. My friendship with your mother falls bellow my oath." Dr. Yamato responded. "Even though you are now 18, you are still in your mother's legal custody till you turn 20. So, unlike when you were 17, I won't automatically tell her any information that is discussed between us. She has to be deliberately persistent to get it, and have just cause to do so." That caused Izuku to gulp.
"Can you perhaps omit… certain… pieces of information from your report?" Izuku asked. This caused Yamato's eyes to narrow with suspicion.
"Izuku, I've been your doctor since you developed your quirks; I think you at least would've learned to trust me implicitly. Besides, as your medical provider I need you to be 100% honest with me. What did you do to your body?" Yamato asked kindly, a polar opposite of how his mother reacted last night.
"Well you see…" Izuku rushed to think of an explanation. "I'm being currently trained by an assistant for All Might in order to get into UA, and during training I accidentally broke my right arm a couple weeks ago. My mother never found out and I prefer if she didn't."
Yamato looked at him blankly, blinking a few times before finding her words. "You broke your arm?" She mused, "But, now I need to perform a full examination, you know what you need to do Midoriya." It wasn't a question, it was an order.
With that Izuku turned a vibrant shade of crimson. "Have you found a way to make your quirk-"
"No I haven't Izuku, my quirk can't get past fabric. I've told you this during every examination I've given you since you first sprouted hairs down there." Dr. Yamato sighed, she had to deal with this for every shy and embarrassed teenager she interacted with in her office the moment that first started puberty and well on into adulthood. "Now get on with it before your mother barges in asking why you are taking forever. Don't worry, you aren't the only teenage boy I do this with."
"Is that suppose to make me more comfortable?" Izuku groaned.
"Yes." Dr. Yamato snorted as Izuku removed his underwear, throwing them on the chair in the corner where the rest of his clothes were piled. "You have nothing to be ashamed of Izuku, most boys with your physique would love to show off their body to a woman. You've developed into a fine young man."
"Not helping…" Izuku said frustratingly. "Can we please get this over with quickly?"
"It'll only take a minute." Yamato responded, "More if you keep shaking."
"Well I'm scared and uncomfortable…" Izuku retorted.
"Hey this is something you are going to have to get use to if you move into those new UA dorms." Yamato cheekily replied as she activated her quirk turning her eyes white, as a cord came from her wrist and connected to her computer.
"Yeah well I'll just change in the shower stalls and do it after everyone has gone to bed or wake up before everyone else." Izuku muttered, his face now looked as red as a stop sign
"Well, I'm all done now," Dr. Yamato sighed, "You can get dressed again. You'll be happy to know that you are in perfect health. Your body is almost done with puberty. You have no signs of any acne, I don't know how you managed to go through puberty without developing any, but that isn't the only thing your friends would be jealous of given that you are larger-"
"Doctor!" Izuku protested, "Please don't go there! That's inappropriate!"
"Very well." Dr. Yamato chuckled, "Well we aren't done just yet, you still have to have your blood drawn for some lab work, after all your father and both of your grandfathers had problems with their cholesterol." This caused Izuku's face to turn from a vibrant shade of crimson to an arctic white in a few seconds. Another thing he hated about the doctors…
It was twenty minutes later he was lying down with the phlebotomist having his blood taken. He hated this too, he had to be lying down facing away from the person taking his blood. However, it was over shortly and he was back in the room, except his mother was there. They sat in silence for ten minutes before the doctor came back in.
"Well Inko your son is in perfect health." Dr. Yamato smiled. "He appears to know what he is doing with that healing quirk of his." At this news Inko gave a large sigh of relief and it actually looked like a huge weight had been taken off her shoulders.
"That's all I ask." She mused, finally not sounding angry for the first time all day.
"Your son has amazing control over his healing quirk." Yamato said with an even bigger smile. "He was able to heal his concussion with amazing skill and mastery. He has a great future if he decides to become a doctor. Perhaps you should apply for 1-C at UA like I did."
"I'd rather be a hero instead." Izuku responded, and this caused Yamato to let out a sigh of disappointment.
"It's a waste of talent, I know you would've been accepted into that class on in an instant with a full ride scholarship because of your quirk after you complete your undergraduate degree."
"You are wasting your time Shiho." Inko responded for her son, "He has wanted to be a hero for as long as I remember, and you have no way of convincing him to get off that path."
"Very well," Dr. Yamato resigned with a look of disappointment. "Izuku here is your quirk registration update form that you need to take to the government office downtown. I suggest you get it done today. I just hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare like last time."
"You can do that on your own." Inko said bluntly, staring at the form with distaste, "It was a nightmare the first time, and I'm sure as hell not doing it again. I'll meet you back at home Izuku. Welcome to adulthood baby." With that Izuku split off from his mother as he headed out to Hosu to drop his form off while his mom drove home.
After dropping his updated form off, he checked his phone. There was a villain attack next to Dr. Yamato's practice. His heart skipped a beat when he saw that the building had been completely obliterated in the attack. The attack happened not long after they had left there. It was when he got home that he was told by his mother that all the data collected by the Doctor's quirk was safe in a cloud, but he'll have to go to the hospital to have his blood taken tomorrow morning, and that just made Izuku very… happy…
