Chapter 12: ICU

Izuku had been pacing the living room for the past several hours, unable to sit still. All attempts by Iida and his mother to sit down and relax went unanswered, Yanagi had gone home already. They didn't let him go to his room because they feared he might try and sneak out the window.

They finally forced him to sit down for dinner, his mother had ordered in pizza, not wanting to add the stress of cooking, and watching her son.

"Izuku you have to eat."

"I don't want to. I'm not hungry."

"Midoriya you have to eat if you want to maintain your body."

"I said I'm not hungry."

"Izuku please!"

"No thank you."

He made to get up, but was stopped by a look from his mother, and he reluctantly sat back down glowering.

"Baby you have to eat please!" His mother called out.

"I DON'T WANT TO!" Izuku shouted, and that caused both his mom and friend to flinch. "I can't eat mom…" he croaked and teared up for the third time that day.

It was at that moment that Izuku's phone began to ring and he saw who was calling and immediately answered the phone.

"ALL MIGHT?!" he shouted into the phone before he could stop himself. Iida had a shocked expression. No doubt wondering why All Might had his friend's phone number in the first place.

"He's okay?! Please tell me Hiro is okay?" Izuku stammered through tears.

"He's okay Young Midoriya. He was just taken out of the Operating Room and he is in the ICU now under observation. He'll have to stay in the hospital for the next couple days before he can be released. Due to the severity of Hiro's injuries he needed to be sent to Shizouka General Hospital. You can come by tomorrow."

"And then we can bring him home to stay with us?"

"That's the plan Midoriya. We are pulling strings behind the scenes to get the foster placement fast tracked. Normally it takes months, but with his past and your family's willingness and your personal efforts that allowed the raid to happen in the first place. It'll be much sooner than that."

"Thank you All Might…" Izuku sobbed.

"No thank you Young Midoriya…" All Might then hung up and Izuku looked at his mom and Iida.

"He's going to be alright…" Izuku sighed, and his mom and friend showed signs of visible relief. "All Might said he's going to be alright, and he's at Shizouka General in the ICU now. We can see him tomorrow morning…"

"That's a relief…" Inko sighed, sinking her head on the table.

"Ummm… Midoriya…?" Iida asked, looking uncertain.

"Yes Iida?"

"Why does All Might have your phone number?"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"I'll tell you but, you can't tell anyone else Iida." Izuku finally said, "And I'm only telling you because your one of my best friends…"

"Okay?"

"Izuku…?" Inko asked, staring at her son with uncertainty.

"Remember how I said All Might wrote a workout plan for me?"

"Yes Midoriya."

"Well. I didn't just send the recording to you, I also sent it to my trainer, who then sent it to All Might, who then contacted me."

"But my brother was the one who gave it to the school."

"I didn't send it in right away." Izuku pleaded, still thinking of a way to get out of this situation he just dug himself into, "It was probably after your brother informed UA that I thought to send it to him. He hinted that he already knew what was going on but decided to keep me abreast of the situation because of my personal involvement."

"Ah, I see…" Iida replied, looking satisfied at the explanation

"Thank goodness. I thought I was going to have to admit it was either All Might actually training me himself or that he was dating my mom!"

Izuku woke up… if you could call it waking up. He slowly sat up rubbing the crust out of his eyes. He bent over the side of the top bunk, his lower back cracking with the motion. And then it hit him…

"Hiro!"

Izuku quickly rushed out of bed. Barreling out of his room and rushing into the kitchen to see if his mom was there making breakfast. However, she wasn't there. Izuku looked at the clock on the microwave.

05:37

"Crap! How am I going to go back to bed now? The hospital isn't even open for visitors this early!"

"Why are you having to make such a racket this early in the morning Midoriya?" his friend groaned as he slouched back into his room. "The sun hasn't even risen yet…"

"I'm sorry." Izuku replied, all sense of being tired forgotten in his excitement. "I usually wake up at four in the morning, so I technically slept in."

"And you call me weird."

"You are weird, but in a different way Iida."

"Listen just climb back in bed and sleep for a few more hours."

"I can't Iida! I can't go back to sleep when I know Hiro is in the hospital and I can finally visit him today."

"Well there is nothing you can do Midoriya. The hospital doesn't allow visitors till 09:00."

"Why don't they have visiting hours all the time?"

"Because people need to sleep Midoriya." Iida deadpanned, "If you don't want to go back to bed, then get some studying done. We still have final exams."

"Fine… I'll try and go back to sleep...," Izuku groaned, "I don't have concentration or the mindset to study. I'll pass anyways."

"Wait Midoriya…" Iida interrupted, as Izuku was about to climb into bed.

"Isn't it Tuesday?"

"Yeah…"

"Doesn't that mean we have school today?"

"I guess so…"

"Doesn't that mean you won't be able to visit Hiro till after school?"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"I hate you Iida…" Izuku growled as he angrily threw himself into his desk chair. "I'll just have mom ask the school if I could ditch school today like yesterday."

"But yesterday was different!" Iida protested, "It was a school holiday."

Izuku glared at Iida. "I'll just have to let my mom beg the school to make an exception. Besides, how are you going to go to school? You didn't come with a bag packed yesterday? Where's your uniform? I don't see your beige suit anywhere in my room."

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"I'm sorry Midoriya but I must be off to my place!" he apologized as he ran out the door in a comical fashion.

"You are still going to be late…" Izuku chuckled, but then his expression soured.

"How am I going to convince mom to let me skip class? Should I just ditch school and not show up, but rather go to the hospital instead? Perhaps I could call the school and ask permission not to come instead? If I properly explained the circumstances of what was going on, they may allow it."

Izuku sat there in his desk chair in his pajamas for the next hour or so before his mother knocked on the door before entering.

"Izuku?" she asked as she poked her head into his room.

"Yes mom?"

"I'm going to get a start on breakfast dear, just make sure you are ready for school. I plan on driving you there today. Where's Iida?"

"He ran off when he remembered he didn't pack his school uniform." Izuku chuckled at the memory of his classmate and friend running out of the condo in a panic. However, the smile didn't last.

"Mom… do I really have to go to school today?" Izuku asked, he looked at his mom in the eyes. He hoped that his pain was evident, and it clearly was because his mother's face fell, knowing how her son felt.

"Listen baby… I know you don't want to go to school today. But Hiro won't be able to come home for the next few days, and you have final exams to worry about."

"How can I concentrate on schoolwork mom?!"

"Listen baby. How about I take you straight there after school?" His mother was still looking at him nervously. "I know you are already accepted to UA, but you can't be skipping your last days of high school because of it."

Izuku just wanted to shout and scream. "She just doesn't understand…"

"What don't I understand son?"

This caused Izuku to visibly jump. "Did she just my mi-"

"No, I didn't read your mind…" Inko deadpanned, "I don't have a mind reader quirk. You are just behaving like an angsty, brooding teenager and are quite easy to read."

"But mom…"

"Listen Izuku." Inko sighed, "Sometimes you still have to act normal when the world seems to be going against what you personally want to do."

Izuku felt his anger building inside of him, he desperately fought to keep it in check. "But again mom, how am I supposed to concentrate at school when MY BEST FRIEND is in the hospital."

His mother's voice also started to raise in volume to match Izuku's, "The heroes say he is SAFE, and he'll make a full recovery. He just needs a couple days?"

However, at this point Izuku snapped, "BUT WHAT IF THINGS CHANGE WHILE I'M IN CLASS?! WHAT THEN?! WHAT THEN!? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THEN MOM?! HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO CONCENTRATE ON STUDYING IN CLASS? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET WORK DONE? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW HE'S ALRIGHT UNTIL I SEE HIM MYSELF?!"

Izuku paused, he was rapidly taking breaths after shouting at his mother who looked completely shocked and taken aback at her son's outburst. And then a new separate feeling of pain and dread filled Izuku. He'd just ruined his chances of going to see his friend in the hospital. He just knew it.

Izuku slouched and walked past his mom, who was still in a state of shock at her son's outburst and headed into the bathroom. He quickly turned the shower on but didn't get in for a while.

"The one time I needed to keep myself together and I blew it! No way in Hell mom is going to let me see Hiro today. Not after what I just did…"

He went to the sink to brush his teeth and after wiping the fog away he saw his extremely puffy red eyes. When he was done brushing, he heard a buzzing coming from the hamper.

"Crap! I left my phone in my sweatpants again."

After extricating his phone from his dirty clothes, he noticed that Yanagi was trying to video chat with had a moment of panic, he really did not want to do a video chat with a girl, let alone when he was fresh out of the shower. Ignoring the red flushing to his face, he denied the call and shot Yanagi a text saying that he had just gotten out of the shower.

He wrapped his towel around himself after throwing his sweatpants back in the hamper and hoped for the love of All Might that his mom wasn't waiting to ambush him outside the door. He really was not looking forward to the smack he was going to get for busting his top at his mom.

Fortunately, when he opened the door, he heard noises from the kitchen, and it sounded like his mom was still cooking breakfast.

"At least I won't starve this morning…" Izuku begrudgingly thought as he closed his bedroom door and went into this closet for his school uniform.

After getting dressed and inspecting his hair in the mirror on his nightstand for way much longer than an ordinary teenage boy reasonably would do. Especially for a boy who simply didn't care about styling or managing his hair in anyway shape or form, Izuku finally walked out his room and trudged backed into the kitchen.

"So…" his mother said as he entered the room,

"Crap. I'm in for it."

"I'm not going to ground you for what you just did."

"What? Is my hearing not working right? Did I just hear that I am NOT getting grounded for yelling at the top of my lungs and dropping an F-Bomb in front of my mother? My mother who is THEE DEFINITION of a strict, no-sass, no-attitude, no talking back parent? Or am I still asleep? I've never showered in my sleep before. The water felt realistic. Also leaving my phone in my sweatpants when I tossed them into the hamper was also realistic. What angle is my mother playing at?"

"Listen baby. I know you are under a lot of stress right now. And that's okay. It's okay to feel these things when these life events happen. Hell, I remember a time when your father was in the hospital in America because of his quirk, and I couldn't do anything to see him. He was in America, I was in Japan with a sugar boosted, extra hyperactive toddler who kept finding my secret stashes of chocolate."

That earned a chuckle from Izuku, he never really did stop the habit of finding his mom's stashes of chocolates and pilfering from them.

"What I'm trying to tell you is that I understand why you reacted the way you did earlier. I know what it is like to just… I don't know how to say it… let your emotions take control of you. Lose all sense of logic and rational thought. It happens to everyone, especially when those you care about are hurting."

Izuku's eyes seemed to heat and tear up for what seemed like the zillionth time that morning and he began to wipe them. His mother came around the table and gave him a huge hug.

"I love you mom…" Izuku croaked.

"I love you too baby. Now, don't think you are still getting off that easy. I want you to cook dinner for me tonight. Okay?"

Izuku nodded and dug into breakfast.

Izuku Midoriya and his mom were pulling up to his school, they had sat the entire car ride in silence, having exchanged all words that needed to be said earlier that morning. Inko had traded in her yellow convertible for a slick forest green sports sedan in order to help her to get approved to foster Hiro, since the convertible only had two seats and luggage space for one person really.

"I'll be here to pick you up from school later, okay?"

"Yes mom." Izuku then gave his mom a quick one arm hug before getting out of the car. He walked through the gates, ignoring the praises of: Hey Midoriya! UA's future number one hero! Will you sign my notebook? Can I have your autograph? Or the one he hated to hear the most: Will you go out with me?

He really did not like being the most popular kid in his school. All he wanted to do was leave this place and go to the hospital to see one of his best friends. But no, life just had to be not fair to him. As soon as he got to his home room class, he saw Iida rushing in behind him, not running, but pretty damn near close.

He simply couldn't pay attention in class. What really didn't help were the knowing glances that Iida would give him. For once Iida was actually called out by the teacher to pay attention. When the lunch bell rang his teacher asked him to stay behind.

"What's wrong Midoriya? You should be incredibly happy. You got into your dream school, and you even broke all the records they had for applicants."

"Not the written test Sensei." Midoriya replied, still looking downcast, "There were still other students who did better than me."

"But still something is up. It is not normal for students who get into the best hero program in all of Japan to be moping around and unable to pay attention in class."

"You see sensei… Did you hear about the hero raid on the orphanage last night?"

"Of course, Midoriya, it was the number one trending article in all of Japan. Well respected police officer responsible for running an abusive home as a front for an infamous criminal organization."

"Well you see… One of my best friends was living there…and he was really hurt by the people who worked there, and he's in the hospital-"

"And you can't keep your mind off him, can you?" His sensei asked him, drawing an overly concerned look upon his face.

"Yes…" Izuku replied quietly, his head down, "I didn't want to come to school today actually… I wanted to ditch class and run to the hospital, but my mom and I… we had a disagreement. We got into a fight and I lost my temper and shouted at her. She didn't trust me from the start and told me she would be driving me to class instead of me taking the train for that reason sensei."

"I see…" His sensei mused, "I've only heard rumors and heresy of what was going on in there. Do you know what condition your friend was in when they found him?"

"Sort of sensei…" Izuku croaked, tears starting to form, "I… We were told that the heroes found him. I wasn't told of the specifics of his condition other than he was rushed to the operating room and he's currently resting in the ICU as of last night."

"I see…" his teacher responded getting to his feet. "Would you please walk with me Midoriya?"

"Umm. Okay?" Izuku replied, unsure of what was going on. He couldn't figure out where he was going, they bypassed the cafeteria and he was taken to the administration building. It was then that he noticed he was being led to the school counselor.

"Umm. Sensei." Izuku stuttered, not sure what to say. "I don't think this is really necessary…"

"On the contrary." His sensei responded as he knocked on the door before entering, "You've been unable to pay attention in class because your best friend was being kept and tortured in an underground lair to the point that he had to be operated on and is in intensive care. You are clearly psychologically unwell and need help. You told me that you wanted to ditch school for crying out loud."

"Fine…" Izuku replied resignedly. He knew there was no way he could talk himself out of this and walked inside the counselors' office and accepted his fate of a torturous interrogation of his mind. Perhaps if he played along, he'd be able to skip the rest of class and have his mom pick him up and take him to the hospital?

Not long after he was sat down in the counselors' office the woman in question herself came in. There wasn't much to say about her because Izuku never had a reason to see her before now at least. Also, Izuku, along with the rest of the students at Soumei tried to avoid her whenever possible, given that her quirk gave her appearance something straight out of a Lovecraftian nightmare.

"So, Mr. Midoriya…" the woman quietly hissed, he felt goosebumps fly up his arm. "What brings you to my office?"

"My teacher…" Izuku stuttered, he desperately tried not looking into her many eyes, or her many tentacles.

"Come now Midoriya…" the Lovecraftian horror hissed, "A teacher doesn't bring one of the top performing students into my office for nothing…"

As much as he was uncomfortable, Izuku decided to spill the beans. He told the woman about the raid to rescue Hiro, how he had help orchestrate the entire thing, how he got caught sneaking out at night, how Hiro's current condition was like as far as he knew.

"I see…" the woman hissed, Izuku couldn't really tell where her mouth was, nor did he wish to find out. "I clearly understand why you would want to ditch school today. Please wait here."

"Why is she leaving me here? What does she plan on doing for me?"

A short while later the woman came back in.

"We've contacted your mother and asked her to pick you up. You shouldn't have come to school today in your current psychological condition. The best thing for you to do is for you to see your friend."

A wave of relief flooded through Izuku; he was finally going to see how his friend was doing.

Izuku climbed into the car, which was parked out front, shortly after his mother got in and turned the ignition.

"Don't say it…" his mother grumbled.

"Say what?" Izuku asked innocently.

"That you were right…"

"Right about what mom?"

"Don't talk back to your mother…" she deadpanned as they drove off to the hospital.

"But I wasn't talking back!"

"Don't push it…"

"Hey! It's not my fault that…"

"I said don't push it…"

It was about a thirty-minute drive to the general hospital. Upon entering the front doors, they went to the front desk.

"Hello?" Izuku asked nervously, it was his determination that brought him here, and now he couldn't muster up the courage to ask a simple question. The fear of seeing what condition Hiro was in after no doubt being tortured was now in full effect. However, he took a deep breath and asked the nurse anyways.

"I'm I-Izuku Midoriya, and I'm here t-to see Hiro Fuji." He eventually stuttered out; his legs were shaking with anticipation as the nurse looked down at her computer as she pulled the information up.

"Hiro Fuji…" the woman muttered as she went away at her keyboard. "And you said you were Izuku Midoriya?" he nodded, "You are on the approved visitors list. He's still in the ICU, room 1838 on the eighteenth floor."

"Thank you, ma'am." With that Izuku hurriedly rushed towards the banks of elevators and waited for one to become available. Once he was heading up his nerves got the best of him.

"What if he is still unconscious when I see him, and he doesn't wake up when I'm there? What if he's still covered in bandages? What if he can't wake up without being in too much pain? What if he is bound to a wheelchair? Or blind? Or deaf?"

It was at this point he felt a hand grab his forearm and he jumped about a mile.

"You need to calm down Izuku…" his mother whispered, "You are going to scare him if he sees you like this."

Slowly Izuku nodded as the elevator chimed that they had arrived on the 18th floor. They slowly walked through the hallways, following the signs leading them to room 1838.

They reached nurses station for the ICU, and they were stopped.

"Are you Izuku Midoriya?" a middle-aged man said as he approached the two of them, "I am Dr. Ryuga Yanagi. I'm the presiding physician for Hiro Fuji."

"Dr. Yanagi?" Izuku asked blankly, clearly taken aback, "Sorry for the intrusion, but do you have any relation to Reiko Yanagi?"

The middle-aged man chuckled, "Why yes, she happens to be my daughter. As I recall she tried to call you today to let you know that I was the presiding physician for your friend, soon to be foster brother. As I recall she turned a bright red when she couldn't get a hold of you."

It was Izuku's turn to blush, "Well she tried to Video Call me right after I got out of the shower, and I texted her that as to why I denied her call."

Dr. Yanagi let out a belly laugh, "So that's why she got really embarrassed! She turned bright red after you texted her and put her phone away, not touching it again till she left for school. She in fact forgot it at home and my girlfriend had to drop it off at her school for her to pick up before heading to her own practice!"

"Hold on," Mama-Midoriya imposed, "As much as I LOVE seeing my son get teased, Foster Brother? Does that mean the approval to foster has been approved? I thought we'd have to wait much longer for everything to get sorted. You know how much the government likes to drag its feet."

"According to Detective Tsukauchi, everything has been approved. Apparently, some people with some pull high up managed to get everything fast tracked." Dr. Yanagi replied, pointing his thumb towards the door with a label 1838, Hiro's room, "He's the detective in there taking Hiro's statement right now. He has the paperwork for you to fill out Mrs. Midoriya. Once that is done, I can legally inform you of Fuji's condition."

It was at this point that Izuku's stomach let out an audible grumble causing his mom and his friend's dad to look at him. He had skipped lunch, having been sent to the counselor's office instead.

"You can help yourself to the sandwiches and juices in the nurses' station young man." He said with a smile, "It will be a while before the detective is done, he arrived just before you did. I'll see if I can get that paperwork from him while we wait so you can fill it out. That way I can fully inform you two with what Fuji is going through when it is your turn to see him."

With that, mother and son went off to a corner in the nurse's station and sat themselves at a table eating sandwiches while the doctor brought an entire binder full of paperwork for Inko to sign. Fostering of course, wasn't something that could be done with signing a single sheet after all.

While they waited, Dr. Yanagi sat with them, it was also his lunch break right then. He thanked Izuku for befriending his daughter at the entrance exam. He told him that she had trouble making friends throughout middle school, he didn't say why though.

After about thirty minutes and after Dr. Yanagi left their table, Detective Tsukauchi approached their table.

"Izuku Midoriya." He said as he approached, "I was hoping to have a word with you, but I didn't expect to see you today. I thought you would be at school right now."

"Ah yeah," Izuku rubbed the back of his head, "Well, they thought it would be better for me to be here."

"Well in any case I need to have a quick word with you and your mother before you two see Mr. Fuji."

Both he and his mother nodded as she finished signing the paperwork, and the detective sat down next to them.

"I greatly appreciate what the two of you are doing for this young man. Many of the boys who weren't gravely injured have been sent to other orphanages across Honshu and onto Hokkaido and Kyushu. Very few have been sent to foster homes. Everyone knows that they lived in a quirk orphanage run by a villain. Very few are willing to trust the boys that lived there, thinking they were trained to be villains themselves. In addition, the reputation of quirk orphanages acting like villain pipelines hasn't helped much."

"But that's unfair!" Izuku shouted standing up, his plastic chair slamming to the ground, "They never asked to be raised in such a horrible place!"

"I know." The detective responded, putting his hands up in an effort to placate the teenager, "However, it is one of those old things the public hasn't gotten over since the foundation of quirks. No one has liked or trusted those who grow up in quirk orphanages. Anyways, I'm going to have to let you know that there is a strong chance that you will be asked to testify how you got the recording of Fuji's confession."

It was his mother's turn to protest, "But detective! My boy has already gone through enough. Does he really have to go to court to testify?"

"I'm afraid so Mrs. Midoriya. As he was the one who collected the evidence, he will have to take the stand."

"But I thought the head villain escaped." Izuku interjected, and this resulted in a grimace of shame from Tsukauchi.

"Unfortunately, he is still at large." He answered with gritted teeth, "However we did capture many orderlies and thugs in the basement. Their trials won't happen for a while as they must wait their turn. They are all sitting in jail right now and they have all been denied any form of bail."

"But won't they come after my Izuku when they find out that he was the one who got the whole ball rolling on your raid on their base?" Inko asked with a look of worry.

"That is why we will have someone stationed at your home when your son is not visiting home from UA. When your son is home, he will be allowed to use his quirk to defend his family. We managed to get a special provision from the judge that has been assigned to this case to have quirk usage approved." Tsukauchi reassured the weary mother, "However, if the rumors are true that you are indeed dating my dear friend Toshinori, then I doubt it'll come to that. His quirk is to say… unique."

"Oh, I already know what his quirk is." Inko responded kindly and this caused Tsukauchi to splutter in shock.

"Detective," Izuku deadpanned, "Do you honestly think Yagi would be 'training me' and dating my mother and not tell her? I already know you are in on the secret because he told me about you before."

"Ah." Tsukauchi sweat dropped, looking embarrassed, "I just didn't expect him to tell her…"

"I forced him to." Izuku sighed, "After all, it is my secret to tell now, and if he's training his girlfriend's son, she better be in on the secret for his own health and safety."

"I see…" Naomasa sweatdropped, "Well anyways, since you filled out the paperwork, I can now fill you in on Mr. Fuji's condition. I can easily tell you that your foster brother went through Hell. Multiple lacerations to his back, most likely permanent injuries. They also broke all the bones in both of his legs, he almost lost both of his hands due to a lack of blood circulation caused by the restraints they put on him. He was also suffering from starvation and severe dehydration when we found him."

After the detective listed off the injuries that Hiro had suffered, there was a moment of silence between everyone in the room.

"Is he awake right now?" Izuku asked nervously.

"Yes, he is," Tsukauchi sighed, "But I don't know for how much longer. They have him on numerous pain killers right now."

Slowly, the quartet (Dr. Yanagi had joined them,) got up and walked towards room 1838. However, before they entered Tsukauchi placated them.

"Let me speak to him again before you enter okay?"

Both greenettes nodded and allowed the doctor and detective to enter the room.

Hiro Fuji had woken up; his vision was blurry. He was laying on something… soft? He tried blinking several times and yet his vision cleared up a little bit, but then he realized he wasn't wearing his glasses. He tried moving his arms around but found he couldn't. They were covered in something, but he couldn't tell what. His body was in a state of agony though.

"Where am I? Why can't I move my arms? Why are they so heavy? Why does my body hurt so much?"

He tried to remember what had just happened, he racked his brain around to remember what had just happened. Did he just wake up from a nightmare or something? He then remembered something, a girl's voice.

"But take it easy little bro! We need to get you out of here and to a hospital. We are getting you out of here!"

Little Bro? He didn't have an older sister. Then it all came back to him in a rush. The days of torture, being whipped, being yelled at, by him… He let out a grunting noise as the pain of whatever happened to him flared up in full force.

It was at this point that he heard a gasp and a rushing of feet.

"He's awake!" a voice called out, "Get Dr. Yanagi right away and call that detective that wanted to see him!"

"Doctor? Detective? Where am I?"

A moment later he heard a rush of people entering whatever room he was in. People were calling out what sounded like gibberish to him. He couldn't comprehend what was going on.

"He's barley conscious of what's going on. I suspect some brain trauma or mind quirk was used on him when they tortured him."

"Didn't the report on him say he wore glasses? Where are they?"

"I don't know. The heroes said they didn't find any on him."

"Look up his prescription from his school's medical records. I doubt we could find anything from the records at that hell house."

"Yes Dr. Yanagi."

"Son. Do you know where you are?"

Hiro shook his head, he found it nearly impossible to speak.

"You are in a hospital right now. You are being treated for being tortured by the criminals who ran that orphanage. Don't worry you'll never have to go back there again."

"Criminals? Never go back?"

"Sir! He's in incredible amounts of pain!"

"I can see that for myself!" the voice of Dr. Yanagi called back out, "Administer another dose of pain killers, we can't afford to give him much more or he'll overdose."

It was at that moment his blurry vision started to darken, and he quickly passed out again.

When he woke again, he found that his vision was back to what it was. Someone must have put some glasses on him while he was passed out. There was a black-haired man wearing a beige trench coat in the room with him. He looked around and took in his surroundings.

He was in a hospital bed, or at least he thought it was a hospital bed, never having been to a hospital before. There were several contraptions he was hooked up to that made the beeping noises he heard earlier. There were also several pieces of teal furniture in the room and a TV. It definitely looked like the hospitals he had seen on TV, but he wasn't used to such a sterile smell.

"Are you awake now?" the man asked him.

Hiro simply nodded.

"I'm detective Naomasa Tsukauchi. I work as a detective for the police and I'm leading the investigation into Twist Orphanage."

It took several minutes of silence for Hiro to comprehend what he had just heard. "Investigate Twist Orphanage?"

"Yesterday, a couple of pro heroes who are staff at UA arrived at your orphanage to see you personally."

"See me personally?" Hiro thought internally.

"They were your home room teacher Vlad King and the Head Nurse Recovery Girl. When they denied them entry, especially Recovery Girl to treat you when they themselves reported you as sick, they called the police to investigate actions of child abuse. When the police arrived the staff at the orphanage resisted. The heroes called for backup and 'luckily' there was a large contingent of officers training at a nearby warehouse. Also, numerous heroes were meeting at Cementoss' agency. They all responded when there were explosions on the upper levels of the orphanage."

This caused Hiro to gulp in fear,

"Luckily, Backdraft and his sidekicks were not far away and managed to put out the fire, which was determined to actually be arson. You do know what arson is?"

Hiro nodded again.

"Anyways, the staff attacked the heroes and the police officers when they entered the orphanage. They all were arrested for child abuse, attacking law enforcement, resisting arrest, and attacking pro heroes."

Hiro couldn't believe what he was hearing, "The staff at the orphanage got arrested?!"

"There is more, the pro heroes discovered a secret villain base underneath your orphanage. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"

"No…" Hiro replied in a croak, and Tsukauchi visibly sighed in relief as his lie detector quirk determined that statement to be truthful.

"Anyways," he continued, "The pro heroes managed to take down over 200 villains, well… it was mainly All Might who took them down." He stopped to chuckle a bit, "But you were found a team of heroes many floors below the orphanage. You were taken here right away."

There was another moment of silence before the detective spoke again, "I'm going to have ask you what life was like at the orphanage. How they treated you, how they raised you, please leave no detail out."

With that Hiro's statement was taken on how he was treated at the orphanage. Everything pinged as truthful, which mortified Tsukauchi. Everything that was in the recording earlier was proven as true by his quirk and more some on top of that.

"Thank you, Hiro." The detective sighed as he got up, "I'll be back sometime today. Take it easy."

The detective had left the room and Hiro didn't know what to think. He was just in too much of a state of shock at what was going on that his mind for the first time in his life was completely blank. Like frustratingly blank, like it literally annoyed him at how blank it was. Perhaps it was a side effect of whatever drugs they pumped into him?

After about an hour or half an hour, he couldn't tell the passage of time because there wasn't a clock in the room with him not like he could read it well because of the angle it was at, there was knocking at the door and the detective walked back in followed by a middle-aged grey haired man.

"Nice to see you up Mr. Fuji." The middle-aged man said with a smile. "I'm Dr. Yanagi, do you recognize my voice?"

Hiro nodded.

"Well you'll be staying here at the hospital for the next couple days." The doctor went on to explain, "We'll need to monitor your vitals and injuries for a few more days before you can be released."

"Released? I have nowhere to go now that the orphanage has been shut down."

Guessing what Hiro was thinking, Tsukauchi stepped forward, "We have already found a foster family to take care of you. You won't ever be going back to an orphanage ever again?"

It was at that moment that Hiro's mind broke, "A foster family? Someone wants to take a freak like me into their own home?"

The detective then went to the door, opening it up a bit. He called to some people to come inside the room. Hiro's jaw nearly dropped as recognized a blurry outline of a boy in a teenage suit with fluffy green hair.

"HIRO!" Izuku cried out as he rushed into the room placing his arms around in a bone crushing hug.

It was then that it happened again, sparkling green ribbons of emerald light began emanating from Izuku's body and a powerful green aura enveloped the entire room and a peaceful hum came from the aura itself.

"Izuku what are you doing?!" he heard the older woman who entered with Izuku call out.

"What's going on? What are you doing?" he heard the doctor call out.

"My goodness." He heard the detective whisper.

Hiro meanwhile felt the same feeling he did before the last time Izuku had done this to him. He felt a blissful serenity as his entire body relaxed. He felt no more pain, no more suffering, he felt a warm feeling in his chest that then went to pass on throughout his entire body. He felt all his injuries close up and heal themselves.

And then the green aura sparkled away and Izuku Midoriya and Hiro Fuji were both passed out.

Izuku Midoriya woke up, he felt like he was laying on something soft… a hospital bed? He bolted straight up right to see a terribly upset Inko Midoriya.

"Crap, I'm in trouble."

His mother then came to him and smacked him and then pulled him into her chest crying her eyes out.

"Guess I deserved that."

A couple minutes later Dr. Yanagi came into his room followed by one of the nurses from earlier.

"Well I have no clue what you did boy, but you managed to heal all of Fuji's injuries instantly. Next time WARN ME next time you try and do something like that. The process nearly killed you."

That earned another smack to his head.

"Nearly killed me? How?" Izuku asked, eyes widening in shock.

"We ran several tests on you while you were passed out," Dr. Yanagi explained, "It turns out you are using your own stamina and energy to heal people when you do that. Your mother told us that your normally use the other individual's stamina when healing people."

"Well yeah," Izuku shrugged, feeling quite scared as his mother was giving him a look, "But, I figured out I have this supermove that lets me heal permanent injuries. I wasn't thinking straight."

"That much is obvious." His mother huffed and Izuku recoiled,

"Well…" Izuku stuttered, not sure how to respond his way out of the hole he had just dug himself into.

"You should've consulted us first," Dr. Yanagi cut in, but then sighed, "However, your quirk worked wonders. All of Hiro's injuries have been healed and he is in excellent health now. We were going to hold him for several more days, but we can discharge him tomorrow morning. We are just going to keep him overnight to keep him under observation. Same goes for you too."

"But I feel-" Izuku began but he was interrupted, by his mother.

"It's your own damn fault you are stuck in the hospital Izuku."

"Fine…" Izuku groaned,

"Don't you dare use that tone of voice in front of me young man, and don't you dare roll your eyes."

"Can I at least share a room with Hiro? I came to see him after all."

"Really? I thought you would want to spend your last night—" His mother replied in a certain tone of voice that set danger bells off in Izuku's head.

"Mom! If you are going to make an inappropriate joke, please don't!"

"You're no fun."

A/N: I'd like to describe what Izuku's Life Force looks like in more detail here. Basically I got the healing idea from Doctor Who's regeneration energy. That is why it is golden/orange instead of Recovery Girl's green we see in the anime. I got the twisting ribbons of energy and sparkles and all that from the one time (Doctor Who SPOILER ALERT), River Song used up all of her regenerations to heal the Doctor, hence why that effect is associated with healing permanent injuries. Except I changed the color of the energy for a different effect Life Force is putting out. Wink Wink
