"Medal...get it...shirt...left side. Bury it with me."

"NO! Professor, you won't die," Hermione shrieked, cradling his bleeding head in her lap. She unbuttoned his shirt. Four buttons down, she felt a weight, but saw nothing.

"Specialis Revelio," she murmured.

A wand tap revealed a golden medal. A Muggle Christian medal--Madonna and Child. Snape gratefully reached for it. Hand shaking, reverently, he brought it to his lips and kissed it. He gasped with his last breath: "Muggle Grandmother. My mother charmed it."

Later Hermione noticed the other side. A sallow-complected, dark-eyed woman gazed adoringly into her baby son's glittering eyes. Unconditionally.
