"Looks like I can finally show my face again. If someone told me that Hiccup would go from well Hiccup to placing first in dragon training, I would have shipped him off, fearing he'd gone mad." Stoic announces to the crowd cheering his son's name while they are gathered at the arena.

"Well, here we are. And I couldn't be more proud. Today my boy will join our ranks as Viking!" Stoic shouts.

"So what are you going to do?" Astrid asks Hiccup, standing at the arena's entry with Hak.

"Put an end to all this. I have to try. Promise me though, if something goes wrong make sure you get toothless to safety." Hiccup tells her.

"I promise." She agrees.

"It's time boy. Knock 'em dead." Gobber says, fetching Hiccup and bringing him to the arena.

Hiccup enters the arena and selects a simple shield and dagger while the crowd is cheering him on.

"I'm ready he says and moments later the door to the cage busts open with a monstrous nightmare crawling out, firing a blast at the audience before facing Hiccup."

Hiccup drops his shield, dagger and helmet saying, "I'm not one of them."

"Stop the fight." Stoic says worried about his safety.

"No. I need you to see this. We don't have to kill them." Hiccup says.

"I said stop the fight." Stoic yells, hitting the arena's fence with his hammer, causing the dragon inside to freak and it starts to attack Hiccup, who screams in shock.

"Hiccup!" Astrid yells, throwing a frying pan at the dragon while Hiccup is trying to flee from it. The dragon then sets his eyes on Astrid while Stoic opens the arena telling the teens to get out.

They however get cut off when the dragon melts the gate's support, causing it to close with them inside.

"Astrid, Hiccup, get behind me!" Hak yells, running across the dragon's back, landing in front of the two frightened teens, staring down the dragon who appears to be seizing him up before it tries to sink its claws into the teens in front of it with Hak blocking the blow by using his glaive's metal staff.

The commotion soon takes a whole other level however when out of nowhere toothless arrives, blasting a hole into the fence and lands in front of the group, snarling at the nightmare.

The Nightmare flees back into its cage while toothless joins Hiccup, standing beside him.

"Toothless get out of here." Hiccup says concerned for the dragon.

Toothless however, seeing that other Vikings quickly jump into the arena while Stoic rushes towards him tackles the large chieftain, snarling at him once before he gets thrown over towards Hiccup curtesy of Hak, with Astrid holding Hiccup back from running into the mess.

When Toothless slides to a stop in front of Hiccup a handful of men jump onto the dragon, keeping it in place.

"Put it with the others." Stoic says with disdain.

Stoic drags Hiccup to their home and they argue wildly with Hiccup confessing that Toothless found the dragons' island. Stoic immediately plans to attack their nest, using the dragon as a means to show the way, despite Hiccups warnings.

"Ready the ships!" Stoic shouts towards his men, his face contorted in sadness, feeling like he's lost his son for good.

The next day the Vikings readied their ships, loading Toothless onto one of it and are about to head out for the nest.

"You. A word." Stoic tells Hak, pointing at him amongst the teens who are standing at the harbor watching everything transpire.

"You said you led men into battle before, right?" Stoic asks, eyeing Hak intensely.

"Yes." Hak confirms.

"Will you join us on this mission then? This is probably the hardest trip we'll ever face and in case... something should happen I would be glad to have someone aboard who could bring my men back to Berk without protest in the worst-case scenario." Stoic says.

"That's alright with me. Like I said, I'm going to follow your orders. But you should make my role apparent to the others." Hak agrees after a quick look at Astrid, who gets nervous at seeing the two talk amongst themselves.

"Give me a moment before we go though." Hak says, getting a nod positive from the chieftain.

"Astrid, looks like I'm going to join Stoic and his men. But don't worry I'll be back before you know it. I still need to taste your boar meat steak afterall." Hak tells her after he walked over to the blonde.

"Hak... it's..." she says, intending to stop him until she sees his conviction on the matter.

"Uhh, it's alright, you better be hungry when you come back." She says trying to hold back the small tears of worry threatening to escape her eyes.

"Is Astrid crying?" Snotlout asks freaking out.

"It's going to be fine. You taught me a lot about dragons, so I'm sure I can hold my own out there." Hak tells her, pulling her in for a hug while imprinting the back of his glaive on Snotlout's face.

"Hak, you don't know what's out there. There's a dragon the size of an island." She says tears now falling freely while she's hugging herself close to his chest.

"I have to do this. I promise you, I'll come back. Here, keep this safe for me in the meantime." Hak tells her, shrugging off his coat and drapes it around the blonde's shoulder, with the cloth pooling at her feet slightly due to her smaller stature.

"I should join Stoic." Hak says, seeing the chieftain wave for him to join them at the boats.

"Hak, when you get back… We have a lot to discuss." She says and pulls him in for a kiss.

"I'm looking forward to it." Hak says with a grin before leaving to join the others.

"What was that all about?" Ruffnut asks Astrid intrigued.

"Shut up!" She replies sternly, scaring her group of fellow trainees into silence while she's pulling the coat close to her body.

"Men. I have something to announce before we head out." Stoic shouts, getting everyone's attention.

"This young lad here, he's going to be my second in command for this mission." Stoic announces, being met with multiple complaints from his fellow Vikings.

"I know it may seem odd, placing an outsider in such an position. However, he's proven himself to us many times in the short time he's been here and I would be proud to accept him to our ranks of Viking if he wishes to join." Stoic says.

"I'd be my honor." Hak agrees kowtowing to Stoic.

"I told you lad, we don't show respect like that here." Stoic laughs.

"Now lets head out to destroy that dragon's nest!" Stoic yells and the Vikings take off in their boats with Stoic's boat leading the charge, having toothless aboard for navigation as well as all of the commanders of the group.

While watching the ships leave Astrid steps over to Hiccup, asking "So, what are we going to do?"

"I don't know anymore. Maybe my father is right and I'm just a disgrace who won't even kill one dragon." Hiccup tells her.

"Hiccup, I need you to get your head in the game. I want Hak to come back and how things are standing now those chances are slim. We both know what's on that island." Astrid says, gripping her friends shoulders.

"Think of toothless, he must be terrified to go back there. He already didn't like it last time and now he's in chains." Astrid tells him.

"You're right. We have to do something. And I have an idea, it's reckless though." Hiccup says.

"Now we're talking." She grins.

Half an hour later Hiccup and the other trainees meet up in the arena and Hiccup leads the Monstrous Nightmare out of the cage with the other dragon's following. Hiccup shows his friend the bare minimums on how to get the dragons in the arena to cooperate with you.

Around the same time his father reaches the dragon's island with his men and they start to assemble their catapults.

"When we crack this mountain open, all hell is going to break loose." Stoic tells his commanders.

"Stoic. Astrid said something to me before we left. She said there is a dragon the size of an island here. Are you sure I shouldn't sneak in first and check the situation?" Hak asks their leader.

"There is no time. They already know we're here. And if we wait for you to do recon, we're just losing the advantage of the first strike." Stoic tells him.

"Fine." Hak agrees.

"Let's do this. No matter how this ends… It ends today!" Stoic says and gives the signal for the catapults to fire at a spot on the mountain wall.

A handful of boulders smash into the mountain wall, creating an opening for their troops.

Stoic is the first to approach the hole with Hak only a couple feet behind him, standing next to Snotlout's father and Gobber.

"While peering into the darkness Stoic signals for his men to fire a burning boulder into the hole, lighting up the pathway cleared for them by smashing through the wall and the leaders of the group see thousands of medium sized dragons all huddled against the walls, only for them to storm out of the hole, flying past the group of Vikings and flying out to sea with more groups storming away from the mountain all around the island.

"We've done it!" Some Vikings yell breaking out in a cheer.

"He's frightened by something, and this time I'm pretty sure it isn't me." Hak tells the leader, stopping him from stepping out of the hole, pointing his glaive at the cowering toothless, trying to get out of its chains.

"I think whatever dragon Astrid warned me about is going to show itself, we should retreat to a safer distance." Hak suggests.

"Vikings don't retreat. We face out foes head on until we've won!" Snotlout's father berates the teen.

Hearing a quiet growl from inside the cave Stoic shouts, "This isn't over! Form your ranks, hold together."

The mountain starts to break away from the hole they created and an enormous Dragon's head shows itself, the head already being bigger than one of their ships.

"Get clear!" Stoic shouts, pulling back to the shoreline with their men.

"Catapults!" Stoic shouts and the catapults fire at the monster before them, with the boulders simply shattering against its skin, not causing any appearant damage whatsoever. The dragon then crushes the first catapult between its teeth before stepping onto the others one by one.

"Get to the ships!" The Vikings yell.

"No!" Stoic warns them and the dragon spews a stream of flame across their entire fleet, lighting them on fire along with some of the Vikings who fled onto them.

"Smart that one." Gobber remarks.

"Lead the men to the far side of the Island!" Stoic tells his commanders.

"Don't tell me you're thinking of doing something crazy." Gobber says.

"I can give our men a few minutes if I give that thing something to hunt." Stoic replies.

"No. You won't. Gobber, if you're up for it follow me. We will distract it. The men will need your leadership. I can't fulfill my orders of getting them off this island without any boats, so you'll need to get them into hiding and stay safe." Hak stops the chieftain, staring him down with a smile that shows he's half excited, half terrified.

"Don't die on me you two, whatever it takes!" Stoic yells at them before ordering his men to get to safety.

"Here!" Gobber shouts, running towards the beast while waving his hands wildly.

"Time to cause some damage." Hak says to himself, running towards his instructor.

"Gobber, give me a boost!" Hak shouts and the older man boosts Hak upwards as he's stepping into the man's axe prosthetic with incredible speed.

Hak then flies at the dragon, smashing into its coral like plate covering its face above its nose.

With a swing of his glaive he cuts through the coral like plating, surprising the weapons smith below.

The dragon roars out angrily and tries to shake Hak off itself, swinging its head side to side, only for Hak to grab onto its enormous horn. When the dragon realizes that this attempt is futile it raises one arm to flatten the teen standing on its face, an explosion occurs at its hand however when Astrid, Hiccup and their friends arrive, riding on the dragons they trained against in the arena.

"Good shot Snotlout." Hiccup shouts when the blast of his monstrous nightmare connects.

Hearing his sons voice as well as the other teens Stoic looks back, seeing the six fly on four dragons.

"He's as much as boar headed stubborn Viking you ever were." Gobber tells the chieftain who stops in his path while the smith walks over to him.

Hiccup then instructs his friends, telling them to occupy the dragon while he is going to get toothless.

The dragons capture the attention of the giant beast and Hak uses the opportunity to run across its back until he's just over its middle section.

He attempts to cut through the spiky plating covering its back with little success.

"Ruffnut, Tuffnut, light him on fire, right here!" Hak shouts towards them.

"Hak? Fancy seeing you here. Stand back!" The male twin shouts and the two use their dragon to light the part in front of Hak on fire, with their enemy roaring in anger.

"Ohh, I think we pissed it off." The female twin says, looking to the dragon head which glares at them.

"I think that's what Hiccup asked us to do anyways." Her brother replies.

"Yeah!" She agrees and they fly out of the reach of the dragons arm which tries to hit them.

"Thanks guys!" Hak shouts, jumping over the spikes in front of him until he's at the area where the scaling is still fuming from the fire.

He then jumps up slightly and slashes against the dragon's back plating numerous times, carving some hand deep gashes into it.

While he's doing this Fishlegs tries to disorientate the dragon with noise from his shield, while yelling "This thing doesn't have a blind spot!"

Astrid lets Hiccup jump onto the burning boat where Toothless is still chained up.

"Go help the others. Hiccup says while he tries to remove his dragon's bindings.

"It's working!" Snotlout shouts while joining Fishlegs in creating noise, their dragons however are also affected and start to go down with Fishlegs falling to the ground with his dragon while the monstrous nightmare throws Snotlout ontop of their opponents head.

Snotlout catches the hammer his friend throws at him while feeling like a lamb to the slaughter.

"What am I supposed to do with this?" He shouts freaking out.

"Come over here!" Hak yells at him, still carving into the dragons scalings.

The dragon annoyed at the teens on his back tries to shake them off by turning in a circle and unfortunately for Hiccup its tail crashes against the ship he's on, ripping a hole into its side and it starts to sink at a quick pace, with toothless falling off.

The teen jumps after his still chained up dragon and tries to rescue him, only to get rescued by his father himself, who also frees the teens Night Fury.

Toothless, flying out of the water, carrying the chieftain back to shore croaks at his friend and Hiccup runs over to him, jumping on the dragon's back.

"Hiccup! I'm sorry. I should have listened." Stoic apologizes.

"Me too." Hiccup replies and takes off with toothless.

"Get Snotlout out of there!" Astrid orders the twins, flying circles around the large dragon alongside the two.

Seeing his friends dragon approach the teen jumps onto it, flying right over Hak, who yells "Leave the fucking hammer!"

Snotlout manages to drop it down to Hak, but it slides off the edge of the dragon with Astrid catching it in the air and flying back up , hovering near her friend who's still on the dragon's back.

"What are you doing there? Jump over!" She shouts.

"Throw me the hammer!" Hak yells back and the girl throws Hak the hammer.

"You should clear out now, this guy won't like what's coming next!" Hak yells up to her.

"No, I'm staying right here. I'm with you all the way." She says, looking at him with conviction.

"Astrid!" Hak yells in a pleading voice.

"No, I won't leave your side!" She almost hisses back, angry he wants her to leave him alone.

"Fine, just brace yourself!" Hak groans and jumps into the air, throwing his glaive with its blade in the middle of the cravings he created, causing the dragon to roar in pain.

Hak then crashes down towards the dragons back, right for his glaive which is still sticking out of it and hits the glaive's bottom with all his might, piercing the weapon into the dragon until not even its staff is visible.

"Great shot!" Astrid shouts while the dragon roars angrily and trashes around, its tail heading right for the flying girl and her dragon from behind.

"Astrid!" Hak shouts, jumping over to her, lifting her into his arms while kicking away the dragon, letting it dodge the blow with no inch to spare while he gets hit in his back, flinging him and his blonde friend across the shoreline, slidding to a halt with Hak taking the impact, turning him so Astrid is on top of him.
"HAK!" She shouts worried.

"Kids!" Gobber shouts, rushing over, having seen their rough landing.

"Take her away from here." Hak groans, getting up with a slight wobble.

"Where are you going?" Astrid shouts worried beyond believe while Gobber takes a hold of her to keep her away from harm but she manages to rip herself free.

"They need my help out there." Hak says, looking over to toothless and Hiccup while the rest of their dragon riding friends are all out of commission.

"No. Hak, you've done enough. Your back. You're bleeding so much!" She cries, tears falling out of her eyes.

In the meantime Hiccup starts to attack the dragon, Toothless firing it in its eyes while they are doing a fly by.

After flying over the dragon Hiccup decides to try and get their opponent air born.

"Watch out!" Gobber shouts towards the two, seeing the dragon's tail rake though the ground, headed right for them again while it prepares to take off to fly after Hiccup.

Astrid stands in front of Hak with her eyes closed, intent on taking the hit for her friend, but Hak grabs her shoulder, throwing her to the ground behind him while picking up the dragon's coral like scales he cut off previously and raises the large object onto his shoulder, to use it as a ramp so the tail will pass over them.

Just as the tail is about to impact however Hak feels his knee's buckle and almost loses his grip on it, luckily for him and Astrid however Gobber rushed over and helps the former general keep it in place, making the tail fly over the tree while the dragon takes off.

"What were you thinking?" Hak asks Astrid pissed.

"Ask yourself that, you dummy. You don't even have enough strength to stand!" She cries, going over to him while he's kneeling on the floor with Gobber dropping the scale to the ground.

"Listen to me Hak, you've done enough. Hiccup will handle it from here." She says, tears streaming down her face.

"Fine, just stop crying. I can't stand to see you like this." Hak tells her, the guiltiness of how the girl must have felt watching him face the monster head on by himself getting appearant to him.

"Come on lads. We should clear out of this area." Gobber says, putting Hak's arm around his shoulder and leads the two teens behind a large rock, further out of the battlefield.

"Sorry Astrid, I didn't realize that you were so worried about me…" Hak apologizes to the girl.

"Of course I get worried seeing you head into battle without one care about yourself." She says, starting to tear up again but tries to fight back her tears with Hak wiping away the small droplets managing to escape her eyes, looking at her with a gentle expression.

"Lads. Look, Hiccup has a plan." Gobber interrupts them, pointing up.

They see Hiccup fly directly at the island with the large dragon chasing him and toothless.

When the dragon readies another flame, gas already building up inside its maw Hiccup tells toothless to fire, so the dragon turns around and fires a blast into the open maw, setting it aflame.

Making the dragon panic, while it tries to slow down its descend but has too much speed for a creature his size and its wings rip to shreds with it landing head first in the isle in a large explosion.

Hiccup and toothless try to fly out of the sea of flames but the dragon's tailpiece burned to bits during their fight and Hiccup gets knocked off toothless by the dragon's tail. Toothless freefalls towards him and manages to wrap its wings around the boy before the flames deal too much damage, one of his feet however doesn't survive the explosion.

"Hiccup! Hiccup! Son!" Stoic shouts, storming into the fog of ash once the flames dissipated and sees toothless lying on the shore without his boy in sight.

Toothless recovers somewhat and opens its wings, revealing the teen inside while Stoic is kneeling in front of the dragon fearing his son is dead.

"Hiccup! Oh, he's alive!" Stoic shouts making the crowd cheer happily.

"Uhh, not to spoil the mood. But we should get those two back to Berk as quickly as possible." Gobber says, carrying an unconscious Hak with Astrid's help.

The girl's dragon upon seeing her and the teen which saved her rushes over, kneeling down so they can load the unconscious boy onto its back.

"I'll take Hak back, Fishlegs, can you take Hiccup?" Astrid says while her friends come over with their dragons.

"Yeah, we got it." Fishlegs nods while Astrid jumps onto her Deadly Nadder where Hak is already lying in front of her.

"Hurry back. He doesn't look too good." Stoic tells the girl, seeing the blood covered back of Hak.

"I know." She says worried and flies away with Fishlegs following her with Hiccup.

"What happened to the boy?" Stoic asks Gobber while they watch the two dragons fly away.

"Uhh, you know. He got hit by the tail and skidded across the floor." Gobber says, pointing to the trench still visible in the gravel like ground.

"Hmm, I would have thought he'd be able to take a blow like that. Maybe I overestimated him." Stoic says feeling guilty for endangering the teen.

"Not quite. He took the blow for his girl. He really will make a good Viking." Gobber informs the chieftain proudly.

"He'll need a new weapon though." Stoic says, pikcing up a broken piece of the teens glaive.

"Whoa would you look at that. He did get through." Tuffnut says, seeing bits and pieces of the dragons cracked armor on the floor, which fell out after Hak impaled his glaive.

"Yes, he'll make a good Viking." Stoic agrees impressed overhearing the teens.

|Two days later|

Hiccup wakes up and heads out of his house with some difficulty, now that one of his legs is only a prosthetic, but Toothless helps him walk for the time being.
"I'm dead." Hiccup says, seeing multiple dragons roaming around the town in peace with the villagers.

"No, but you tried your best." Stoic chuckles.

"So, what do you think? This is your handywork." Stoic says, pointing around the village.

"It's great… So I'm not going to get thrown out the village?" Hiccup asks concerned.

"Heavens no." Stoic laughs and hands him a new set of tailwing and a saddle for toothwing.

Meanwhile at one particular house.

"Hey, Astrid stop kicking me. I get it, you were worried and I was a thoughtless idiot." Hak says, feeling the girls light kicks connect with his shin over and over.

"But if I stop you won't learn your lesson." She says, leaning down to him since Hak is lying on his stomach with binding all over his torso to help his back heal.

"Can't you teach me in a more comfortable way?" Hak asks, brushing through her hair and gives her a kiss while leaning up on one arm.

He breaks away from the kiss however when he feels Astrid poke a finger on his back.

"Hey!" He groans.

"Sorry hun, but if you're going to try and go out with me I need to make sure you learn not to piss me off or make me worry." She says with a smirk.

"So we're going out huh?" He asks with a wide smile.

"Hey, stop smiling. I still haven't punished you enough it seems." She says and gets up to start kicking his shin again, when she rears back her foot however she falls over with Hak yanking away her other leg, making her fall to the floor lightly, landing next to him.

"Finally I can do this." Hak says, crawling over half a step and crashes his lips into hers again, with Astrid replying the affection in kind.

"Fine, I'll let you off the hook while you're healing. But if you pull a reckless stunt like that one more time… I'm gonna use you for target practice." She tells him, trying to be strict but doesn't pull it off.

"Fine, though I did only get hurt because I had to protect you." Hak reminds her.

"And you wouldn't have had to protect me if you listened to me and cleared out when any human being would have." Astrid says, poking his back again before throwing her arms around his neck to pull him in for a deepened kiss. Their kiss gets interrupted however when the newly dubbed Stormfly nudges the two human lying under the shed's roof, presenting a fish for Hak.

"Thanks, but I was hoping to enjoy this chance in peace." Hak tells the dragon, rubbing it along its jaw.

"Looks like she likes you." Astrid teases him.

"Aww, don't worry. You'll always be my number one." Hak teases back, making her blush a deep red while Hak leans down to kiss her again.

"One of these days I'll tease your socks off." She whispers.

"I'm fine with that." Hak says with a content smile on his face.

A crack is then heard coming from a blanket in a corner of the shed.

"What was that?" Astrid asks, being on guard and pulls back the blanket, seeing a red dragon baby peeking out of a colorful always color changing dragon egg.

"How'd that get here?" She asks confused, picking up the baby, bringing it over to Hak, where it immediately rubs itself against his palm.

"To be honest, I thought It'd be a cool gift for you and was going to have Gobber help me make it into a necklace, but I didn't know it was an egg. I thought It was just a rock." Hak says sheepishly.

"What kind is it?" Astrid asks, not having seen one like it before.

"How would I know." Hak asks, feeding the dragon a fish, after which it spits out a small stream of acid.

"OK, stay clear of its acid." Hak says, seeing it blacken the wooden panel it hit.

"Hey, isn't that a changeling?" Fishlegs asks, seeing the small dragon.

"I don't know." Hak groans.

"OH, Hey Hak. Didn't see you down there." Fishlegs says.

"Oh for the love of Odin, take it, study it if you want and bring it back later." Hak tells him, offering the boy the dragon baby.

"Why'd you give it to him?" Astrid asks surprised.

"Because I would like to do this without fearing a stream of acid will burn off my legs." Hak tells her, getting up with a groan and picks her up by her thighs, carrying her over to the table standing under the roof and setting her down on It while kissing her along her neck.

"Yeah, I think that was the first good choice I've seen you make in a while." Astrid says teasingly, enjoying his lips against her skin.
