Chapter 6

Posted on Dec 10th, 2021

During the following week, Sasuke buries himself in his studies in a desperate attempt to roll his life back to the times when he had control over the carnal needs. And in particular, a blonde need that was always in his mind and under his skin especially late at night. Uchiha Sasuke had never been rejected for anything.

A week ago, when Naruto had rejected his advances, had shocked Sasuke so much that he hadn't been able to react until Naruto was gone. Sasuke could recognize he had been way more forward about it than he had originally planned. But once he had tasted her and had felt the warm and open thighs and pliable tongue rolling against his, he could not have possibly stayed sane and kept his composure. Sasuke was haunted by dreams of thrusting against her on that stretcher, her body warm and inviting and her tongue intoxicating, feeling that tight body against his. The young man would wake up in a sweat, shaking all over and obscenely hard under the tangled sheets. Then he would have no choice but to fist his hot cock until he cums all over himself. He would imagine blowing his load on her belly, smearing it all over her tattoo as a sign of possession, on her breasts, inside her.

"Does your tux need dry-cleaning?" Itachi is making his way around the kitchen as Sasuke puts his tea in a thermos. Sasuke had stayed the weekend with Itachi and was gathering his things to get back to school. He looks up at Itachi and raises a brow in question. "You know, for the university gala on Friday."

"I'm not going to that."

"I think you should. It's good to make yourself known to all the important people that will be there, a wonderful opportunity to make connections. Or were you planning on the Uchiha name doing it all for you?"

"Hn." Sasuke scoffs and tries not to bite at the bait Itachi is obviously setting. He has a long day coming up at school with practice and exams.

"I'll get your tux dry cleaned, Otouto, and mine too. I'll also be going to the gala and I'm bringing a date. You should bring one too – perhaps you'd have someone in mind?"

"I'm late, Itachi."

"Have a great day at school, little brother." Itachi smiles and hands Sasuke a bag with his lunch.

The following days have Sasuke preoccupied with schoolwork. He finds himself spending more evenings in the library with Suigetsu, Karin and Juugo, to his surprise. They turn out to actually be good study companions. At the end of the week, they even get assigned third-year mentors. Sasuke is not too excited about that – he doesn't like his time wasted.

When Sasuke meets Nara Shikamaru though, his third-year mentor, he has to admit he has been pleasantly surprised again. The guy seems to dislike his time being wasted just as much as Sasuke does. He is straight to the point and actually quite helpful. Sasuke has to admit that after just two brief meetings with the older guy, he sees good qualities in him.

Sasuke is at lunch with his group, browsing through a textbook quietly. Suigetsu and Karin are bickering to the side and Juugo is doodling in a notebook. A pink-haired girl approaches their table, nervously tucks a strand of hair behind her ear when she addresses Sasuke. Sasuke looks up and her cheeks immediately pink up.

"Hi, Sasuke-kun… um, we haven't met officially – I'm Sakura." She extends a hand at him awkwardly and there is a silence before Suigetsu nudges Sasuke in the side and makes him shake her hand. "Um, anyway," she fidgets on her feet, "I was wondering - if you're not planning on going with someone else already - if you'd like to come with me to the gala on Friday?"

Sasuke looks back down at his book, "Hn. I'm not going to that."

Sakura stands there awkwardly for some moments. "Right. Okay, no worries. Maybe we can go out another time? Let me know if you ever have free time. Bye!" And with that, she almost runs away.

Suigetsu has his arm draped over the back of his chair, looking at Sasuke and clicking his tongue.

"You're just one heartless bastard, aren't you?"

"What are you talking about?"

"A pretty girl mustered up the courage to come and ask your ice queen ass out and you couldn't even let her down gently. When are you gonna take your head out of your ass?"

"Hn."

Sasuke is turning a page in his book when a flash of blond catches his attention. He looks up immediately in the hopes – since when does he hope? – that it's Naruto. But it's not – it's just some other random girl whose hair is not golden enough and neither is her skin. Suigetsu is quick – he catches Sasuke gaze and follows it, then notices the disappointment on Sasuke's face and adds two and two together.

"You know," Suigetsu starts, biting onto an apple, "you should come to one of my exclusive parties."

"Stop inviting me to those. I've no interest in your druggie parties."

"Hey, no need to be a bastard about it! Besides, there's so much there besides booze and drugs. And you can only enter with an invitation which, lucky for you, you know the main person. Maybe you'll find some of what you need in there. You could use some unloading." Suigetsu's eyebrows move up and down suggestively and he nudges Sasuke again. Sasuke is about to snap at him, but Karin intrudes on the conversation with something completely different and takes Suigetsu off of Sasuke's back.

"What a drag," Shikamaru shoves books in his backpack. "Anyway, let me know if you need anything. Unless it's something big – then ask others first."

Sasuke and Shika go out of the building. It's Friday and by exception today all classes end at noon to prepare for the gala. The two men are walking out to the parking lot in comfortable silence, Shikamaru smoking a cigarette.

"Are you going to the gala tonight?" the Nara asks. Sasuke doesn't know why, but he lingers in the parking lot to keep Shika company until he finishes her cigarette.

"No. I could use the time better."

"Me too. But all the big fish will be there and I'm a year away from graduating, so I need to attend. How troublesome."

Sasuke finds he likes Shikamaru even more.

There is loud and continuous knocking on the door. Sasuke gets up off the couch – when had he fallen asleep? – and goes to answer. Itachi stands there in his long coat, not a hair out of place, looks Sasuke up down from over his sunglasses. Sasuke is in sweatpants and the haziness in his eyes gives away the fact he had just woken up abruptly.

"Little brother. I surely thought you'd be getting ready by now." Sasuke raises an eyebrow. Itachi comes in, takes his shoes off and sets a dry-cleaning package on the couch. "I got your tux cleaned for tonight. What? Don't act like you forgot you gave me the code to the door."

"If you had the code, then why knock so obnoxiously?"

"I thought maybe you could have someone over. Didn't want to embarrass you."

Sasuke rubs at the bridge of his nose. "The fact that you're even saying that alone embarrasses me."

Itachi makes quick strides to the fridge and opens it, shaking his head almost audibly.

"Okay, little brother. You have an hour to get ready while I go do your grocery shopping. We're not even going to discuss it – you're going. You can't be antisocial forever."

Sasuke decides it's useless to fight with Itachi and tell him he'd been planning on going grocery shopping and cooking in the evening instead of going to the gala. He just sighs and takes the tux into the bedroom to get ready.

The gala is hosted in the main hall of the college of medicine. The old stone architecture and vaulted ceilings with stairwells make it look like a castle. Sasuke undeniably looks incredibly well in the custom-fit tux. Itachi is walking next to him not falling short on hotness, his hair tucked in a discrete tail. Itachi stops to greet people in the venue and Sasuke manages to slip away. He is headed to grab a drink when he finds Shikamaru leaning against the wall in a corner close to the table. The Nara's eyes are closed as if he's trying to tune the event out.

"Too much of a drag?"

Shikamaru's eyes shoot open. His thin lips slant into a smirk.

"Uchiha. Thought you said you wouldn't be gracing us with your presence?"

"Correct. My brother forced me." Sasuke gestures toward Itachi with his glass, then takes a sip out of it. He stands with Shikamaru comfortably – there is something in the older man that makes Sasuke not be annoyed with him and actually enjoy his company.

They're casually discussing something when Sasuke's attention is abruptly drawn to the entrance. And this time, it is truly her. In all her glory, with all her beauty and shining charisma, Naruto walks in. Her hair is down and styled, the light makeup emphasizes her already beautiful features. Sasuke has only seen her in jeans so far and to see her in a beautiful formal cocktail dress that hugs and accentuates her figure takes Sasuke's breath away. The dress is simple but just right for her – black, with thin straps, hugging her breasts and hips. Naruto looked like she might as well be walking down the red carpet.

Sasuke watches with suspicion and then horror as Naruto looks at someone and smiles. Itachi is walking toward Naruto and when he gets to her, they make small talk for a moment. Itachi elegantly puts a hand on the small of her back and guides her away somewhere. Is she the date Itachi had mentioned bringing? Out of all women out there, all of them available to Itachi, he had to ask her?!

Before he knows it, Sasuke is halfway through the salon with the clear purpose to reach the two and the unclear purpose of what he'd do when he did reach them. At the back of his mind, Sasuke knew there was no reason Itachi couldn't bring her as a date. Just because they had made out in a dark room once didn't give Sasuke any sort of entitlement over her. And yet, Sasuke had never felt his blood boil like that. He saw red.

The crowd is getting denser and when Suigetsu emerges in front of Sasuke to greet him, Sasuke just pushes him away. But then Professor Hatake, the assistant director, cuts Sasuke's way off and insists on introducing him to someone important. Sasuke grits his teeth and follows Kakashi – he can't possibly say no without looking bad. He glances at the crowd and can't see Itachi and Naruto anywhere.

Sasuke doesn't know if several minutes have passed or hours. There's a lot of people, all mingling and coming into in groups to chat. Sasuke glances around several times without his important companions noticing – a little multitasking any Uchiha could do. He still doesn't see his brother or Naruto anywhere. Something deeper gnaws inside his chest and grips his throat – what if she is making out with Itachi in some dark room too?

The conversation reaches a natural end and Hatake and Sasuke split off again. Kakashi is making small talk about things that Sasuke is not concerned about, offering Sasuke to help roll out his new research project. Sasuke keeps the conversation going politely and glances around, which doesn't go unnoticed by Kakashi. Sasuke trails off when he notices Naruto interacting with Shikamaru – she has a wide smile on her face, her hand on his shoulder and his hand is on her forearm briefly. They're each holding a drink and laughing. Sasuke finds the scene very odd. It seemed like Shikamaru's mood had completely taken a turn. Sasuke watches as the Nara clinks champagne glasses with Naruto and they each take a sip. Then she leans in and says something close to his ear, which makes them both laugh. Sasuke is incredibly perplexed. What was going on? Wasn't she supposed to be there as Itachi's date? Sasuke feels a different type of anger now – he could accept Naruto being on a date with Itachi. But Naruto was embarrassing his brother by flirting with other men while on her date!

An older man with a scar across his nose walks up behind Naruto and puts a hand on her shoulder to get her attention. Naruto turns around and as if it's possible, her smile becomes even wider. She hugs the man tightly and Shikamaru shakes his hand. Then Sasuke is swept away again right as he sees Kakashi leaving his side and heading over toward the group.

Sasuke finally spots Itachi in the crowd. He's being called for a toast as the medical director of the university hospital. Itachi keeps it short and professional, his charming small smile capturing everyone's heart. When he gets off the stage to allow for the next speaker, Sasuke is right there and pulls him away.

"Where's your date?" Sasuke bites out.

"Calm down now, little brother," Itachi takes a sip of his drink, "you sound a little on edge. Now – you seem to have a problem with my date?"

"Not with your date. With your choice of date. Seriously?"

"You're going to have to be more specific."

Sasuke sucks in a breath.

"Out of all the women out there, of all the women and men that ask you out, you had to pick the one-" Sasuke doesn't finish, fists balled up at his side.

"The one what, little brother? I don't understand. You'll have to be clearer." Itachi has that twitch in his jaw that is so obviously trying to contain a smile from messing with Sasuke. The younger Uchiha doesn't know how he just doesn't tackle Itachi right then and there. "Listen, if you wanted a shot with her, you could have asked her. You didn't. Now if you'll excuse me – I'm going to go socialize with my date."

Sasuke makes it a mission to find Naruto before Itachi does. He finds her talking to Tsunade and a tall man with long white hair. When Tsunade and the man look away because someone else addresses them, Sasuke grabs Naruto by the arm and takes her through the crowd to the first secluded door he sees. She protests some but then just follows him. It turns out to be a beautiful office library with several rolls of bookshelves, high ceilings. The outside sounds of the gala are muted. Sasuke closes the door behind them and leans on it, looking at Naruto.

"Fuck Uchiha," Naruto shakes her hand in the air as if getting something off, "I spilled my drink. Care to explain?" She downs the little bit that's left in the glass and licks at her hand where the drink had spilled. Sasuke follows her movements and his jaw tightens. Now that he had her here, had her undivided attention, he was at a loss of words. He observes her for a bit before her eyebrows raise in question. She turns around to look at the place. The blonde walks around a bit to explore the shelves with the books, touching a few. Sasuke is behind her, following her slowly, trying to analyze in his mind why and what exactly he's doing. She turns to face him and leans back on a bookshelf. "Still waiting."

Sasuke takes in a breath.

"You came here as my brother's date. I saw you flirting with another man. Several men. You're making my brother look bad."

Naruto looks at him quietly, her lips moving to say something but then close again.

"…What?"

Genuine confusion is nestled in her eyes and Sasuke begins questioning himself.

"Itachi said he's bringing a date. I saw you with him. Then I saw you flirting with Nara and some other man. Why are you here even? You don't go to the college of medicine."

Naruto rolls her eyes. "Shit, suddenly I need another drink. Why is everything so fucking cryptic and polar with you?" She shifts on her feet and her eyebrows come together over angry blues. Sasuke realizes his accusations are out of place.

"I didn't come here with your brother - I've zero fucking idea what you're talking about. Although if he had asked, I honestly would not have said no - happy?" She puts her hands up at her sides. "And Shikamaru? Year-long friend. Like years. Went to high school together. The other man with the scar on the nose? That's Iruka, he runs the biggest medical charity in the country - you'd know that if you actually allowed yourself to get to know the people in your sphere. Also, he's married, and he's married to your teacher Hatake Kakashi. I'm here because Tsunade-baa-chan is my godmother and the director of the College is throwing a gala. Oh, were you also worried about the tall man that was with her? Was I flirting with him as well and embarrassing your brother? That's Tsunade's husband and my godfather. Are those satisfactory answers to your weird interrogation, Uchiha? God, Sasuke, you are just such a fucking asshole, I swear."

Naruto shoves past him and goes to exit. Sasuke grabs her forearm and brings her back against the bookshelf. Naruto shakes off his arm violently and Sasuke puts his arms up to calm her down make her stay. He swallows. He feels something he's never felt before.

"Don't go. I-I was wrong. I assumed… I don't know what got into me." Under Naruto's angry gaze he adds, "I'm sorry."

Naruto observes him for a while. The anger in her eyes melts away when she sees Sasuke look away and shift on his feet as if looking regretful. A huge sense of relief had washed over Sasuke when he'd learned Naruto wasn't attending the event as Itachi's date. But now he feels emotionally off-balance with the progress of the conversation. He's having trouble putting into words why exactly he even cared. He knew he at least owed her an explanation for pulling her away from the event like that – it was something too drastic that calculated Uchihas usually didn't do.

"What is really on your mind, Sasuke? Or are you just being a bastard?"

Sasuke looks her directly in the eyes.

"We need to talk. Last time, when I saw you. You just up and left."

Naruto crosses her arms. "I didn't feel like continuing."

Sasuke steps closer. "Bullshit. I felt you against me. The way you were responding, don't try to tell me you were not interested." Sasuke is close now, really close, and Naruto takes the smallest step back and her back digs into the books. Sasuke puts a hand on her shoulder – her skin, warm – and travels up to her jaw. "You don't know what you do to me… Tell me now and I'll stop."

Naruto looks up at him, close, and all resistance is gone from her as she wraps fingers around his necktie and pulls him down. Tongues quickly wrap together and Sasuke is expertly kissing against her open mouth. And here it is again, the intoxicating flavor of her mouth and tongue, the hot burn of her body. Fingers tangle in each other's hair and Sasuke presses Naruto into the bookshelf harder. This is insane, the way he reacts to her. He truly had intended to just talk by bringing her to a secluded place, but something just made him absolutely lose control in her proximity. He feels her tightly pressed against him, the curves of her body, the seduction of her little whimpers.

Sasuke's mouth travels down her neck and collarbone, hands grip at her sides. When he grabs her hips and thrusts his erection against her, they both hiss and Naruto's nails dig through his tux. The straps of her dress are sliding down and Sasuke licks and kisses the top of her breasts, grabbing greedily at her body as he rubs against her. Sasuke looks down at her – flushed and hot and willing, half supporting her weight against the bookshelf and half against Sasuke. Sasuke holds her gaze and his hand travels on the inside of her thighs, under her dress and higher. Sasuke wants her to remember him and for there to be no confusion at all exactly what he wants to do with her.

Just when he is about to feel her warm sex, the door creaks open. Itachi is leaning in from the other side of the door, holding it discretely cracked, an infuriating little smile on his face.

"Aah, I see you're busy, little brother. I suggest you change the scene, or the next time the door opens really soon, it won't be me."

With that, Itachi closes the door. Sasuke and Naruto are panting hard, coming off their high. Sasuke is initially annoyed by the intrusion and the cock-block but realizes Itachi is right. This is neither the time nor the place.

Naruto is the first one to come to. She fixes up her dress and walks past Sasuke. "I better go back to my godparents."

"Wait."

Naruto looks at him and Sasuke struggles with exactly what he wants to say. Naruto smiles at him. "I'll see you around, teme. You might wanna…" she makes a gesture wiping at the corner of her lips. Sasuke wipes at his mouth and her lipstick is on his hand. He is still staring down at it when he hears the door open and close quickly.

The night continues soundly. Sasuke gets glimpses of Naruto here and there, always talking to people. Why isn't she there talking to Sasuke? The encounter in the library had concluded exactly like the last one. Sasuke keeps grabbing drinks the waiters bring. He makes up his mind to find her in the crowd and tell her that this is bullshit, that he wants to see her outside of here, one on one. He is making his way through the crowd when Itachi stops him with a hand on his chest. The next thing Sasuke knows, he is outside behind some building puking his guts out. Itachi is standing in the corner and offers Sasuke a tissue and water when he's done. For some reason, Sasuke is mad at Itachi and mad at everything else. He takes long strides to his apartment. Itachi lets him get ahead of him, follows him slowly behind to make sure that he gets to his apartment building, and then leaves to go home. Sasuke gargles with mouthwash and sits on the couch for a minute to stare up at the ceiling – and in the next moment he is asleep.

Next time, Sasuke and Itachi will be going to a play with a certain actress in it.
