After the snowstorm passed life gets back to normal for the people in Berk and the dragon riders are training in the forests of the island.
"Come on pick it up." Hiccup says, spurring on Hak and Fishlegs, the both lagging behind the group, Hak since he's been running through the forest on foot for the last hour and Fishlegs since Meatlog is naturally slow.
"Come on Hiccup take it easy. You can't expect them to keep up with Stormfly or Toothless." Astrid says.
"If they want to be dragonriders they better be able to otherwise they'll just be a hindrance." Hiccup replies.
"What's gotten into you? They are our friends and bring their own strength to the group. Not everything his about speed or power." Astrid defends the two slower members.
"But it should be." Snotloud boasts cockily.
"They are right Astrid. Without a dragon to fly I can help you guys out in the academy but not out here. It's just not possible." Hak says, arriving as last one in the new dragon academy.
"Fine. I just think you are the only one who can literally go head to head with a dragon barehanded, it's a waste not making use of your potential." Astrid tells Hak.
"Yes he is strong Astrid, but we were training our flight capabilities. And people don't fly." Hiccup says.
"It's fine. I agree with you Hiccup." Hak says.
"But I have a request Astrid, could you watch over Spitwing for a few days or weeks?" Hak asks her.
"Sure but why?" She answers.
"I'm gonna go on a trip for a bit." Hak answers.
"Trip? A trip where?" She asks shocked.
"Away from mrs. Bossy I'm guessing." Tuffnut jokes quietly, making Snotloud snicker and get hit by Stormfly's tail.
"I'm going looking for a dragon of my own." Hak answers, looking at Spitwing before giving it to Astrid.
"On your own?" She asks worried, accepting the dragon and scratches it under its throat.
"Yeah..I have to do this myself. Sorry to spring this on you all." Hak answers.
"It's fine. And I think I speak for the group when I say we're all looking forward to seeing what dragon you get." Hiccup tells him supportively.
"I'm not sure I like this idea. How will you even find your way back?" Astrid asks worried, the small dragon crawling over her arm and on top of Stormfly.
"I'll manage. Just trust me." He says, giving her a small peck on her cheek, making her cheeks redden embarrassed.
"When will you leave?" She questions.
"In 2 hours." Hak answers.
"Fine." Astrid grumbles and leaves upset.
"I think you should've talked to her beforehand." Fishlegs remarks.
"I am aware of that." Hak sighs, looking after his girlfriend longingly.
"I gotta go check in with Gobber and your father Hiccup." Hak tells the rest.
"You better make sure Astrid stays safe while I'm away or I will come after you." Hak tells the teens, squeezing Snotlouts and Tuffnut's shoulder strong enough to make both go down with a wince.
"See you all soon." He says before leaving the academy and heads into the town.
"Ah there you are. I was wondering when you were going to tell me you are going away on a trip?" Stoic asks, waiting at Gobber's smithy.
"I wasn't aware I need to get permission from anyone." Hak says confused.
"Well... you don't but I'm the chief I should still be told such things." Stoic tells him.
"I'll remember to tell you next time." Hak says.
"I have it finished. Try it out." Gobber tells Hak, tossing him a full metal glaive with some weight to it.
"Nice. Much better than my tries, I owe you Gobber. Thanks." Hak says, patting the man's shoulder thankfully.
"You played a crucial part in saving everyone from the red death, we're good." Gobber tells him relaxed.
"I will still find a way to repay you for all your help." Hak promises.
"So, are you already heading out?" Stoic then asks Hak, noticing the pouch and small bag on him.
"Almost. There is one more person I have to talk to." He says.
"Oh yes. Good luck with that conversation." Stoic chuckles sarcastically, clapping his back.
"Yeah." He sighs and heads to the forest behind his hut.
About half an hour later he reaches the top of the cliff he and Astrid always race to to train and sees her sitting on its edge with Stormfly and Spitwing.
"Shouldn't you be gone already?" Astrid asks him, not turning to face him.
"I wouldn't do that." Hak says, sitting down besides her, Spitwing quickly lying down across their laps.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She asks angrily.
"I didn't want to give you the opportunity to talk me out of it." Hak says guiltily.
"Yeah well it is a stupid idea." Ahe scoffs.
"I know, but it's something I have to do." He tells her, putting something in her hand before standing up with Spitwing going over to Stormfly.
"What is this?" She asks, looking at his blue sash.
"A promise to you. I will come back for you so please hold onto that for me in the meantime, it's all I have left of my past." He tells her, walking over to the edge of the cliff.
"Come back soon." She says, wrapping the soft blue cloth around her neck like a loose scarf.
"I'll do my best." He replies before jumping off the cliff and heads to the port, where he leaves in the small boat he first arrived in.
|About two weeks later|
Hak, with his clothes having many rips and holes is flying over the water on the back of a black, greyish thunderdrum.
"I think we're almost there." Hak says, looking at a small piece of paper where he wrote down some sights he passed on his quest to find his own dragon, which he succeeded in 2 days ago.
"Look over there Rampage, that's your new home. The girl I told you about lives there." Hak says, Berk's shoreline coming into view, the thunderdrum replying with what sounds like a hum.
"I'll make sure to build you a big spot all for yourself." He tells the dragon, patting it besides where he's sitting.
5 minutes later the pair is over the island of Burk and see the vikings from the village gathered on the beach, being threatened and contained by some armed men.
"Fly us down a bit. I can handle this by myself." He says, the dragon quietly lowering down until he's about 8 meters above the group and Hak jumps off the dragon, knocking the first man out with the staff of his metal glaive, the 6 other men rushing him, not faring any better with Hak either wounding them mortally or knocking them out without a problem.
"What's going on here?" He asks, the people of Berk, looking at him surprised, at his sudden appearance and combat skill.
"Uhh, yeah... you're not gonna lie this." Fishlegs says scared.
"What is going on?" He repeats annoyed.
"Rahhhh!" Stoic's and Gobber's shouts are heard moments later with them rushing Hak, having thought he was a hostile, nor getting a good view out of their hiding space.
"What's gotten into you?" Hak asks, sweeping away Gobber's fake leg with the flat side of his glaive and blocks Stoic with his other hand, holding it up against the man by his chest, but getting pushed backwards through the sand, sliding back from Stoic ramming him.
"Hak? What are you doing with Alvin?" Stoic bellows angrily.
"Who's Alvin? I just came back." Hak asks confused, resting his glaive against his shoulder while staring down the gradually calming down Viking leader.
"He just took out Alvin's men chief." Bucket confirms.
"Good. We'll need your help. Now where is Alvin and where is Hiccup?" Stoic asks.
"Alvin took him and Astrid to dragon island." Fishlegs says while hiding behind Snotlout.
"What!?" Stoic shouts angrily.
"Where did they go?" Hak asks cooly, walking up to Fishlegs.
"Dragon island is quarter of a day's travel in that direction by sailboat." Fishlegs answers, pointing to the direction scared.
"Rampage!" Hak says, the dragon flying down in front of him with Hak patting its head before jumping onto its back.
"He got himself a thunder drum." Gobber says stunned while Hak starts to fly towards dragon island with Stoic gathering his own party to go after Alvin with one of their ships.
An hour later Hak arrives at dragons island, Rampage setting down in the water with Hak climbing off him and swimming towards the docked ship, his glaive secured on his back.
"Stay out of sight until I call for you alright?" He tells his dragon comrade, who helps him climb aboard the ship.
Once on the ship Hak disables its rudder by smashing the steering methode to pieces and looks for his friends below deck, only finding some supplies however.
After climbing back on deck he spots Hiccup and Astrid on shore with who he assumes is Alvin and his crew behind them.
He observes for a minute, unable to hear what they're saying while staying out of sight and just as he's about to engage the group Toothless heads over to Hiccup from a cave on the island.
"Stay back or he could eat you alive!" Hiccup warns the men, putting up some kind of spectacle during which Hak jumps off the ship and walks over to Alvin's crew unnoticed.
Barely any time passed before Hak reached the group and Hiccup jumps on top of toothless, flying over the caught by surprise men.
"That brat. Get him down!" Alvin shouts, his men rushing past Hak to the ship and their heavy artillery consisting of nets and catapults.
"Who are you? I haven't seen you before... doesn't matter get out of my way." Alvin tells Hak while holding Astrid by her arm.
Hak wordlessly hits the man's wrist with the backside of his glaive, causing him to let go off Astrid, who takes off in a sprint, going looking dor the rest of their dragons.
"I'm Hak and you abducted my girlfriend." Hak says, getting into fighting position.
"The blondie? Hahaha. Get out of my way boy." Alvin laughs.
"Try to make me." He says and Alvin grabs an axe, charging at Hak, who smashes right through the wooden handle of the axe with his heavy glaive.
"It seems I underestimated you." Alvin admits and balls his fist, trying to hit the former general, who blocks and dodges the attacks with ease, replying with cuts all over the large man's arms, not risking going for a large attack and giving him time to retaliate.
"Now!" Alvin shouts and one of hia men shoots a net at Hak from behind.
"You should not have come without backup." Alvin says, grabbing onto Hak's glaive who even while lying on the ground has a tight grip on the weapon.
"Who said I came alone? Rampage now!" Hak shouts and the thunder drum reveals itself from below the water and flies over to Hak, blasting Alvin away with a soundwave before pulling the net off the teen with its teeth.
"Good job." He praises the dragon, jumping on its back and takes off in the air, flying next to Hiccup and Toothless.
"You trained a thunder drum?" The dragon enthusiast asks perplexed.
"If that's what they're called." He replies shrugging.
"Whoa, where did he come from?" Astrid asks, flying over to the two boys with her dragon and the other dragon rider's companions following her.
"Let's get off this island." She says, scratching Stormfly's chin while Spitwing flies over to Hak successfully, landing on his shoulder and curls its thin tail around the back of his neck.
"Fine, they're not going anywhere anyways." Hak agrees and the group flies back to Berk, meeting up with Stoic, his men and the rest of the dragonriders on the way, the riders ecstatic to see their dragons again.
"So what'd I miss while I was gone?" Hak asks, his hands on Astrid's hips while looking at the blonde Viking girl.
"We came across a new dragon. And we called it Tyfoomerang." Hiccup answers excited and continues going on about the dragon and then about Meldew and him sabotaging the entire island.
"Anything new with you?" He asks Astrid, shoving Hiccup away once he's done with his monologue.
"No. But... I'm sorry your sash got destroyed." She apologizes guiltily, it having torn in multiple places when she tried to fight agsinst Alvin and his men.
"That doesn't matter as much as you. It's only my past. You on the other hand I'd very much like to be my future." He whispers to her.
"We'll see." She replies, fighting down a blush and walks away.
