Amari Shuzenji was four years old when she discovered her quirk. Not that she really remembered the story, but her mother had gushed about it often enough for her to get the gist of it. She had been playing outside with the neighbors cat, Miu, under supervision of her parents and neighbor. After cooing at the cat and chasing it through the garden she had finally managed to catch the cat and gave it a big smooch on its ginger furry head. As soon as her lips touched the cat she promptly passed out.
Her parents had been scared half to death, as her mother liked to reiterate every so often. Her father had checked up on her and found out she was completely exhausted. Upon further inspection, it had been discovered that the cat had had a small scratch on its paw that had now scabbed over.
Her parents had been overjoyed and soon she was being trained by her father every evening, healing injuries until she passed out. Endurance training is what he had called it. Child abuse is what she called it.
But alas that rigorous training had been the reason she could now control her quirk somewhat decently so in the end she couldn't really blame the guy she supposed.
A deep sigh left Amari's mouth as her feet came to a stop a small distance from the school entrance. Her eyes swept over the crowd of reporters shoving each other to get closer to a mortified looking Midoriya.
"How is All Might as a teacher?!"
Midoriya let out a squeak as he had to move his head back to not get smacked in the face by a microphone.
"U-uhm I uh have to get to class p-please.."
Perhaps if she was part of the hero course she would have been inclined to help the poor boy. But she was not a hero student and she would not subject herself to the same fate.
Amari tentatively looked around for a teacher or anyone else to help her get through the crowd. Her eyes connected to Bakugou who was stomping towards the crowd angrily. Yes, he would do just fine.
She took a deep breath before silently but quickly walking to the blonde who was already yelling at reporters to fuck off and mind their own business. His yelling, paired with the cracking noises of his quirk setting off within his clenched fists was enough for reporters to scramble away from him.
A tiny smirk was visible on her face as she ducked her head down and sauntered behind Bakugou.
As soon as they crossed the school gate she slowed down and distanced herself from her classmate, waving at Momo in the distance.
"No absolutely not, cherry flavored tea is so much better, Momo."
The rich girl rolled her eyes good naturedly at her white-haired friend.
"Amari, I am sorry but green tea is just better tasting as well as healthier."
"I don't want to hear it."
At that she turned on her heel and sank down into her chair, making brief eye contact with a bored-looking Todoroki.
"She is right."
At that she sent him an exasperated look. Of course the one time he deigned to speak to them, it was to her detriment.
"Respectfully, shut your mouth."
She could almost swear she saw the corner of his mouth lift the tiniest amount before he looked away from her to continue his mindless staring through the window.
"Everyone, to your seats." The classroom door slid open as a disheveled, as usual, Aizawa trudged into the room simultaneously looking like he hadn't slept for the past week or so and he had slept for two days straight and had just woken up.
As Amari was already seated, she had the opportunity to enjoy the horrified look on Iida's face as he scrambled to his seat. He had been busy scolding Bakugou for not wearing his uniform properly and had consequently been the only one out of his seat as their teacher stepped into the room. She didn't know why he bothered scolding the guy, it was obviously not gonna accomplish anything.
"Good job on the battle simulation training yesterday." Aizawa drawled unexcitedly. "I observed the videos and results. Bakugou, you're talented so don't sulk and act like a child about losing."
The blonde scoffed with a scowl.
"I know."
Amari chewed on her bottom lip in thought. To be honest, she was still a bit reeling from the state Bakugou had managed to put Midoriya in without, apparently, thinking twice. It was a bit messed up in her opinion for a school making their students beat each other up to such an extent.
"And Midoriya, " Said boy immediately going rigid "You settled it by breaking your arm again. You can't keep saying you can't help it because you can't control your quirk. That's getting old. As long as you fix that, however, your quirk can be extremely useful. Feel a sense of urgency, Midoriya."
So it wasn't Bakugou that broke his arm? She wasn't exactly sure if that it made it better or worse. Why would someone willingly break his bones? Hero kids were definitely something.
"And make sure to properly thank and apologize to Recovery Girl and Shuzenji." At this, Amari finally looked at Aizawa to find him already looking straight at her. "You can't rely on our medics to heal you every time you go and hurt yourself. Especially Shuzenji, healing you means she won't be able to heal someone else. So please be more considerate."
"Yes sir!" Midoriya squeaked as Amari nodded at Aizawa in thanks.
He was right after all. Her quirk took a lot out of her to use so she really couldn't afford wasting it on students who inflicted harm upon themselves.
"Now, let's get down to some homeroom business. What you decide today will decide your future."
Most classmates stiffened, eyes darting around nervously.
"...You need to pick class representatives."
Sighs of relief were echoed throughout the room, before turning into utter chaos. Everyone seemed to want to be the representative, all shouting over each other trying to convince the rest why they should be the one. Even Bakugou wanted to be class representative, not that anyone in their right mind would vote for him.
Her though? She didn't feel it would be right for a non-hero student to be made representative of the hero class. That, and she honestly couldn't be bothered to put in extra effort. She was sure a lot of them wanted the position to put on their applications to hero agencies later. Because of her quirk however, she was pretty much guaranteed a good position in any hospital she wanted.
Her eyes then landed on Todoroki, one of the very few to not apply for the position. He sat calmly in his seat, hands folded on top of his desk, as he seemed to silently observe the class.
Next, her eyes landed on Momo with her hand politely raised. Amari squinted at the girl in thought. She supposed that Momo would actually be the right candidate for the job.
The girl was incredibly intelligent and friendly. Plus, she had told her she used to be a student representative at her previous school so she obviously had some experience already.
"Silence please!" Iida's booming voice cut through the chaos with ease. "It is a job with the serious responsibility of leading others. It's not just a job for anyone who wants to do it. It is a calling which requires the trust of everyone around you. If we want to use democracy, we should have a vote to decide."
Amari clicked her tongue at Iida. Despite his valiant speech, his arm was raised the highest. To be honest she wasn't keen on him getting the role. He was a little too qualified for the position if you asked her. He was just a little too uptight for her taste.
"Why would you come up with that?" Kaminari cut in.
"We've only known each other for a few days." Tsuyu added. "How can we tell who will be the best suited?"
"That's exactly why the person who manages to get more than one vote is the best fit for the job, isn't it sensei?"
Aizawa sighed, clearly not interested. "As long as you decide before my nap is over everything is fine with me." He promptly zipped up his yellow sleeping bag and dropped.
And thus slips of paper where handed out as everyone wrote down their vote. Amari wrote down 'Momo' in her semi-neat handwriting and folded the slip before dropping it off in the collection box.
Amari looked at the board in amusement. All the votes had been counted and almost everyone had shamelessly voted for themselves. At the top of the scoreboard however where Midoriya and Yaoyorozu. She was glad to see that her vote for Momo had been enough to pull her to the position of vice-president at least.
"Why Deku?" Bakugou shot up from his seat, hands balled into fists. "Who voted for him?"
"Well it is better than voting for you." Sero pointed out, causing Amari to bite her lip to refrain from smiling at the blonde's detriment.
"What did you say?" Bakugou rounded on the boy.
"I got one vote?" Iida looked annoyed and surprised at the same time.
"You voted for someone else, didn't you?" Tsuyu questioned him. "At least you got one vote though."
Huh she really hadn't expected him to vote for someone else, seeing how determined and enthusiastic he was about it. Maybe she had misjudged the boy.
"At least one person believes in my capabilities!" Iida had instantly cheered up. "Whoever it was, thank you for believing in me. I won't let you down!"
At that moment Aizawa arose from his slumber, eyes still half closed and hair tangled and disheveled. "Then the class rep is Midoriya and the deputy is Yaoyorozu."
"I can live with that." Tsuyu said.
Amari silently agreed as she got up from her desk and moved to congratulate Momo.
She was currently sat munching on rice balls with Mina, Kirishima and Bakugou. Why Mina insisted on being in his presence was still a mystery to her, but she had promised Mina to sit with her so here she was.
"Shuzenji-san it was so cool how you helped Midoriya yesterday! Your quirk really is amazing." Koroshima gushed.
She had to wait a bit to respond as she had her mouth filled with food. "Thank you, but I've still got a long way to go."
At that Bakugou scoffed.
Her eye twitched slightly but she didn't say anything, not willing to upset the blonde.
"Hey man, what's your problem?" Kirishima stepped up.
"Tch, she's weak."
At this Amari cringed. She carefully put her half eaten rice ball back on the table.
"Just because someone can't, and for that matter don't want to, beat you in a physical fight doesn't mean they are weak."
"Hah you just say that because you wouldn't even be able to land a hit on me. I could take-"
Whatever rude thing he was about to say got interrupted by the sound of a baring alarm.
"It's a security alarm!" Mina yelled in a panic as she jumped up. Her chair clanged to the ground behind her.
The cafeteria dissolved into chaos within seconds. People where screaming and pushing each other to get to the exit.
Amari grabbed onto Mina for dear life as they moved into the throng of students. She was sure she would have multiple bruises from the elbows that managed to hit her. One particularly violent shove caused her to let go of Mina.
She desperately tried to reattach herself to the pinkette but she was being shoved towards the side by the masses. Looking around, due to her rather short stature, she couldn't even see where the exit was, let alone where her friends where.
She had to blink to keep tears from spilling, hands starting to shake. Another painful shove into her back caused her to move even closer to the edge of the crowded hallway. Her breathing quickened as panic started setting in.
"Kirishima!"
Amari clung to the back of her classmate's sleeve as soon as she saw him within reach. Her classmate took one look at her and her glassy eyes before using his other hand to grab her wrist and pulled her closer to him in an attempt to shield her from the crowd.
"No need to panic Shuzenji-chan, I am sure the pros will have it under control soon."
At his reasoning she slowly stopped shaking. He was right after all. This was a school where all teachers were heroes of some sort... and a lot of students as well.
She nodded at him once to show that she understood, a pained look crossing her face as another elbow hit her right in the shoulder.
Kirishima, upon seeing her grimace, let out a breath before drawing her closer to him, his hardening ability activated, as he maneuvered them through the crowd.
It sure is handy to have hero classmates.
"Everyone!" A loud voice she recognized to belong to Iida boomed over the squeals of the masses. "It is only the media that managed to get on the grounds. Please calm down and act befitting of the school you attend."
At once the pushing and shoving stopped, the hallway slowly clearing out as people went back to their classrooms.
Amari slumped in relief, letting out a breath she didn't even know she was holding.
"Thank you so much, Kirishima."
The boy nodded at her, checking for any visible injuries.
"It's no problem Shuzenji-chan, classmates are supposed to help each other out."
"Call me Amari please."
He nodded in confirmation, grinning widely.
"N-now let's decide on the other class officers." A trembling Midoriya stuttered out, standing in front of the class with Momo by his side.
Amari propped her head on her hand. As soon as she had entered the classroom Mina had come to see if she was alright. After telling her she was fine a few times Mina finally backed off back to her own chair. A warmth blossomed in her chest at the thought of it. It was nice to have friends that worried for her.
"But first!" Midoriya winced as his voice cracked. "I think that Tenya Iida should be the class representative after all. He was able to get everyone's attention in such a cool way. I think it's best if Iida does it."
The boy quickly bowed to the class and almost ran back to his seat, glad to no longer be the center of attention. Iida on the other hand looked star struck.
"I won't let you down!"
