"Mommy" A younger Amari had once asked "Why do you work at the hospital?"

Her mother turned to gaze at her daughter, dark circles under her eyes and her hair pulled up in a messy bun. She had just woken up from her three hours of sleep to get ready for her next shift. A villain attack had caused an apartment complex to collapse and the ICU had been overwhelmed with patients found alive in the rubble for the last few days, causing all the staff to work overtime.

"What do you mean, sweetheart?"

Amari put down the mug of hot chocolate she had been clutching in her hands, leaning over the kitchen counter to grab a biscuit to dip in the warm liquid.

"Well, you always look so tired after work. You don't have a healing quirk so you don't have to do this work. Why don't you go do other work?"

It was silent for a few seconds, her mother chewing on a biscuit as well.

"I quite like my work. It is very rewarding." At that, Amari gave her a skeptical look. "Well, not financially but it's rewarding in a different way. Seeing a patient go home with their family at the end of a long hospital stay is the reward for me. Knowing you helped someone is worth it."

"Is that how a hero feels?"

"I suppose so." Her mother replied, using her thumb to wipe some hot chocolate from the corner of her mouth.

Amari was panting, standing slightly bent over. One hand was resting on her knee while the other was clutching the side stitch.

"I can't... You should go on... without me."

"Are you fucking kidding me?! We've only been running for ten minutes what the fuck." Bakugou glared at her as Kirishima patted her back in comfort.

"I'll take... just a small break... and will follow you then." Her labored breathing caused her to take in gulps of air between words.

"Tch are you fucking dumb? You're gonna run into some more small fry and get yourself killed because you're weak." Small popping noises originating from his quirk being fired off in his fists helped get his irritation get across.

She winced at the harsh words. They were all true after all. She was weak and helpless by herself. Never before had she seen it as a problem, after all there had always been people near her to save the day. Just like Bakugou had only a short while earlier today. If she was left by herself she couldn't do anything.

"No need to be so rude about it, man." Kirishima stepped in, having noticed the way Amari's face fell. "Get on my back, we'll get there faster that way. If anyone is injured they'll need you as soon as possible."

Amari nodded at Kirishima gratefully, climbing on his back and loosely wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Thank you, Kirishima." She muttered softly.

Without saying another word, the three were on the move again. Her added weight hardly seemed to faze the redhead.

After weaving through buildings and several groups of smaller, easily taken care off, villains they finally came upon the plaza where the villains had first appeared.

"Is that All Might?" Kirishima gaped, as he squatted down to let the small girl off his back.

In the center of all the chaos stood the young man with the hands, a twisted grin on his face as he peered at the symbol of peace.

An enormous bulking figure loomed over All Might. Its brain was exposed on the top of his head and its face consisted of a beak with sharp teeth and beady eyes. The most concerning part however was how its stumpy fingers were currently clutched into All Might's bleeding side as it held him down on the concrete floor of the plaza.

Aizawa-sensei

Amari's eyes nervously darted around the plaza in search of her homeroom teacher.

Her blood ran cold as her eyes stopped on a broken figure, blood pooling around it at a concerning rate. The figure's yellow goggles gave away their identity.

"Midoriya!"

She snapped her head to the side at the sound of Mineta's voice to see Midoriya sprinting towards the center of the plaza. The look on his face was desperate and determined at the same time.

"All Might!" His voice cracked painfully.

A shroud of black mist appeared in front of the boy, his eyes widening in alarm.

"How foolish." The warp villain spoke calmly.

A blast of wind and heat that came from her side made her stumble backwards as Bakugou took off, teeth bared in a determined grin. "You're in the way, Deku!"

The strength of his blast caused the dark mist to part. The blonde's hand clamped around a now exposed metal part in the center of the Warp guys 'body' as he slammed it into the concrete.

Simultaneously, cold air brushed past her other side as ice crackled on the floor, shooting up the legs and then arm of the bird-like creature holding down All Might.

"I heard you are here to kill All Might." Todoroki spoke as he walked towards Amari.

His gaze scanned over her trembling form, pausing briefly on the bandage covering her neck and the dried blood covering one of her knees.

"Are you alright, Shuzenji?"

She nodded at him shakily before looking him over for injuries as well, satisfied when she couldn't find any.

Peering out at the battlefield in front of her, checking that the villains were indeed still incapacitated, she nodded to herself determinedly.

"Todoroki, cover for me please."

Before the boy had the opportunity to ask what she was going to do the girl was sprinting away from his side already.

Amari slid to a halt next to the limp form of her teacher. She bent down to press a short kiss on Aizawa's hand before moving her hands over his chest and focusing on her quirk.

She sucked in a sharp breath at the overwhelming amount of information that was being pumped into her brain by her quirk.

Blood pressure: 70/41, no 68/38, 65/36

Heart rate: 51 bpm, no 48 bpm

His vitals were dropping quickly. She quickly discovered the source of his lowering blood pressure, a gaping wound on his stomach that had blood oozing out of it steadily. Another focused scan with her quirk found several broken and bruised bones, signs of concussion and multiple gashes and scrapes.

She had to stop the bleeding and fast.

She barely noticed Todoroki moving in front of her protectively, too focused on the job she had to do.

She took in a steadying breath, willing her hands to stop trembling as she closed her eyes and got to work, tuning out the chaos around her. Her hands put pressure on the stomach wound as she coaxed the blood to clot with her quirk.

She stimulated his body to generate coagulation factors, convert prothrombin into thrombin and fibrinogen to fibrin.

Her breathing got more and more labored by the second as sweat slowly trickled down her face. A spark of hope lit in her chest as she felt the blood clotting beneath her hands, his blood pressure and heart rate stabilizing slowly.

Next she stimulated new skin cells to be created on the side of the wound, the skin knitting together at an excruciatingly slow pace. A headache started pounding in her skull, a sure sign of her rapid quirk exhaustion.

"Now that is a rare sight." A scratchy voice broke through her concentration, her eyes briefly flickering open to see that the hand-villain had turned his attention to her, his tongue wetting his lips as they made eye contact. "You UA bastards managed to get yourself a little healer. That's hardly fair to us."

Her shoulders slumped in relief as he turned his attention away again.

"Kurogiri, our exit and entrance has been overcome. We're in a pinch now."

"You dumb bastard." Bakugou jeered. "Just as I thought, only certain parts of you can be turned into that warp gate. The fog covered your actual body. You gave yourself away earlier. If you were completely made out of mist you wouldn't have said "That was close" hah."

The blonde grinned triumphantly, his hands letting off small explosions in warning. "If you feel like moving suspiciously I'll blow you up."

"That isn't very heroic." Kirishima muttered from somewhere on the side.

"In addition to capturing you, they're completely uninjured." Hand-villain spoke again. "And even if we do injure them they have a healer. Kids these days sure are amazing. You make the league look bad."

The villain calmly clasped his hands behind his back, a casual grin on his face.

"Nomu."

A horrible screechy noise came from the bird creature as it shattered the ice around his limbs, tearing of chunks of its own flesh in the process. New flesh along with muscles and tendons grew to take the place of the missing parts.

Todoroki stiffened in front of her, his shoulders hunched with tension.

"Get back everyone!" All Might ordered as he lowered himself into a defensive position. "His quirk wasn't shock absorption?"

A laugh spilled from the villain. "I never said that was the only quirk he had. This is his super regeneration. Nomu here has been modified to take you on at a hundred percent. He's a super efficient human sandbag."

That thing is human?

Amari shifted nervously, her focus being divided between what was happening in front of her and the skin knitting beneath her fingers.

"First, we need our gate back."

Her eyes snapped to Bakugou who had stiffened as the Nomu's eyes slid over him.

"Go"

Her blood ran cold as the Nomu shot off towards her classmate at a superhuman speed, its stubby hand reaching out for his head.

"Bakugou!"

A massive dust cloud appeared as a blast of wind blew them backwards. A wall of ice appeared in front of them, protecting them from the blast. She nodded in thanks at Todoroki, who slowly lowered the ice wall again.

Her eyes quickly found the Nomu, crouched beside the hand-villain.

She released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding as her eyes fell on a seemingly uninjured Bakugou.

"Amari-chan." Tsuyu and Ochaco ran up to them from behind. "Let's get you and Aizawa-sensei somewhere safe."

She nodded gratefully as Ochaco used her quirk made Aizawa float and lead him away from the chaos in front of them as All Might engaged in combat with the nomu, tugging on his foot to move him. Tsuyu in the meanwhile put a hand on Amari's back to gently guide her with them, as she stumbled every few steps in exhaustion.

As soon as they had left the square safely, they laid Aizawa back on the floor again. Amari sunk down to the floor next to him, resuming her quirk healing.

Now that the open wound on his stomach was closed, he was no longer at risk of dying. Still, she was concerned about the swollen brain tissue in his brain, indicating a concussion. As carefully as she could, she tried to coax down the swelling, Afraid that if she messed up here, lasting damage would be present.

After several agonizing minutes, she was pulled out of her concentration by the sound of doors slamming open and a gunshot close to her.

Her eyes snapped to the doors and she let out a deep breath of relief at the sight of Iida standing in the midst of a group of pro heroes.

"Sorry we're late! I gathered everyone who was available." The class rep spoke, panting slightly from the rush.

Amari watched wide-eyed as a bunch of villains, that had definitely not been there five minutes ago when she was still on the square, dropped like flies as the group of heroes engaged.

"Ah, it looks like it's game over now." The Hand-villain said, scratching his neck almost violently. "Shall we go home and try again, Kurogiri?"

At that, a warp gate appeared behind the villain.

"I may have failed this time but I will kill you next time All Might." He gave one last lazy wave before stepping back and disappearing.

It was over

She scrambled to her feet with difficulty and gazed around the havoc.

This is the life of a hero huh

Her eyes stopped at the figure of an unconscious Midoriya laying close to where All Might was standing.

Shit

Shakily she jogged towards the boy to see if he needed immediate medical assistance.

Before she could get there however, a wall of cement appeared in front of her, catching her off guards as she stumbled to a stop next to Bakugou who had also been on his way towards the duo.

"We will take care of him." Cementoss spoke as he moved behind the wall. "Please gather all the students and move towards the exit."

Bakugou turned around, his teeth gritting in annoyance as he stomped away. After a few steps he stopped and turned around.

"Are you coming or not, band aid?"

She rolled her eyes at the blond, wincing at the way it made her head throb, as she walked towards him.

"Jeez I'm coming already."

Her foot caught on a piece of rubble as she stumbled heavily. Bakugou let out a puff of air in irritation as his hand snagged out to grab her arm to stop her from faceplanting.

"Can't you even fucking walk by yourself?"

"Sorry, I'm just a bit-" Her voice caught in her throat as her eyesight blurred. "a bit-"

"Fucking speak clearly, band aid."

Bakugou's voice sounded distant, like her ears had been plugged with cotton. She swayed on her feet unsteadily as black dots swirled in front of her.

"Can you catch?"

"What the fuck do you mean by that, you-" Her consciousness faded away as her knees buckled, the last sensation she felt, a pair of warm hands wrapping around her.

Bakugou had been on his way to All Might to see if he could use some help when a wall of cement had popped up right in front of his face. His eyes narrowed in annoyance as his classmate, the one with the healing quirk, came to a stop beside him.

"We will take care of him." Cementoss said to her. "Please gather all the students and move towards the exit."

Bakugou turned around as he grit his teeth. Why the fuck did they need to put a wall there, it wasn't like the nerd had died or anything.

After walking a few stepped he noticed the girl was still standing there, staring dumbly at the wall. He rolled his eyes and turned around.

"Are you coming or not, band aid?"

He glared as he saw her roll her eyes as she started walking towards him.

"Jeez I'm coming already."

He tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for her to catch up. His eyes widened as she tripped over a piece of rubble, his hand shooting out involuntarily to steady her.

God this girl was helpless.

"Can't you even fucking walk by yourself?"

"Sorry, I'm just a bit-" Her voice trailed off as she looked at spot next to him. "a bit-"

Jezus fucking Christ

"Fucking speak clearly, band aid."

His glare faltered as he saw her eyes unfocus as she swayed precariously.

"Can you catch." Her normally bright voice sounded airy.

His eyes narrowed in confusion. What was she on about now?

"What the fuck do you mean by that, you extra?"

Halfway through his sentence however he understood what the girl had meant as her eyes rolled back and she collapsed.

His arms shot out to catch her, wrapping securely around her arms. Just his luck to be the one to deal with this.

He grumbled some swear words under his breath as he heaved her onto his back. He determined that she must have passed out from quirk overuse. He vaguely remembered her tending to Aizawa in the background.

"I'm only fucking doing this because you healed by leg. Not that I fucking asked."

His hands hooked under her thighs as he lifted her up and started walking towards the exit. Her head was tucked in the crook of his neck, the sensation of her breath on his skin bothering him more than it should.

He ignored his classmates as they crowded around him, asking if he was okay and worried about the passed out girl on his back. He walked straight to the paramedics who were currently loading Aizawa into an ambulance.

His eyes narrowed on the state of his teacher. He looked broken. There was no better way to put it. One of his arms was in a position an arm should not be and blood covered almost every inch of his body.

"His blood pressure is too low but I can't find the cause of all this blood?" One of the paramedics spoke to his colleague as his eyes roved over Aizawa's form.

"There, his shirt is torn. The skin is unbroken though." The other one said in bewilderment. "Judging from the amount of blood on his clothes he should have been long dead by now."

Bakugou turned his head to gaze at the girl on his back. Her eyes were closed and the corners of her mouth were pulled up into a peaceful smile. Dried blood was smeared across her forehead but judging from what he had just heard he doubted the blood was hers.

"Hey" He spoke to the paramedics. "Help her."

At that he unceremoniously dumped the girl in the arms of the paramedics as he trudged off, hands in his pockets and shoulders slightly hunched.

If what he had heard just now was true, that meant she had saved their teacher's life. Perhaps he had misjudged her. She was far from useless.
