Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, I am writing this fanfiction for my own amusement and make no profit, all recognizable characters in this story are the property of J.K Rowling, Scholastic, Warner Brothers, etc.

I also do not own or have any stakes in the Jurassic Park films or novels and make no profit from this work using anything created by Michael Crichton, Steven Speilberg, Universal Pictures, etc.

AN: I am looking forward to certain aspects of this story, particularly where the five sequels have let me down. Once upon a time, I read this great book by Robert T. Bakker (who was consulted in making Jurassic Park BTW) called Raptor Red. It was a book told from the point of view of a dinosaur, specifically a female Utahraptor. Now as many of you probably know, the velociraptor was really about the size of a turkey, the annoying kid in the first movie was right! The velociraptors they used were closer in size to deinonychus though still quite a bit larger in scale. However, the movie's portrayal of velociraptor fell far short of the awesomeness that is the utahraptor!

I have been hoping since I saw The Lost World in theatres that they would include the utahraptor in a film, it's been in a few of the games but always passed over in getting a role in the movies. Michael Crichton didn't have it in his novel but there is a good reason for that, utahraptor hadn't been discovered when he published his first book. I believe in the very depths of my heart that if Crichton knew they existed, that those ankle biters that have gotten so much fame from the movie would have been sent packing and the utahraptor would be the star of the show!

Now don't get me wrong the velociraptors are awesome, I thought they were the second coolest dino in the first movie. That being said, the fifth film was a real kick to the stones when they went and created that black and yellow monstrosity when there was a perfectly real dinosaur relatively close in size that actually existed!

AN: I have decided to work some of the plot from the novel into this story simply because the book version was just so much better than the movie.

North end of Isla Sorna, 6/29/1998, 11:36

Lewis Dodgson leaned on the Landrover waiting impatiently for the rented barge to make its way inland to the riverbank. Dodgson was a tall blonde man with receding blonde hair, a boyish face, and had a look of impatience etched across his features as the boat approached the island at a snail's pace.

It had taken years of work to get this close to his prize but he was almost there at last!

He had thought Nedry would have gotten him here five years ago and if it weren't for that damn storm and Nedry's impatience, he probably would have. If Nedry had just waited until he was about to depart for the mainland before taking the embryos, Lewis would have been more than happy to meet him in Costa Rica and the Jurassic Park incident would never have happened!

Since the incident, Ingen had almost completely stopped genetic engineering and had halted advancing the dinosaur research project. This made his own plans to steal their research almost impossible as they had sealed their labs and had closed ranks to protect themselves from impending lawsuits.

By some miracle, Howard King, one of the geneticists working for him at Biosyn, started dating a woman that was the personal secretary of one Peter Ludlow.

This was like hitting the lottery as Ludlow was the nephew to John Hammond and the favourite to take over Ingen when the ageing billionaire stepped down.

King's girlfriend had let slip to him the day before yesterday, that Ludlow had given her the week off. She had said he was taking a trip to some Island to collect new 'assets' for the company.

The poor girl was trying to hint to Howard that they could do something the following weekend and probably had no idea how confidential that information really was.

Dodgson had been ecstatic to receive this news. King had asked for the weekend off and Dodgson was just about to grant his request when King explained why he wanted the time off. After deciphering what King's girlfriend had said, Dodgson had reconsidered and got to work figuring out where Ludlow would be going to collect new 'assets'.

After a little bit of digging and a great deal of bribery, Lewis had taken that information and gotten a rough idea of old Peter Ludlow's destination. Ludlow had used a private contracting company to get his equipment flown by helicopter to a peninsula on the west coast of Costa Rica. This peninsula was about two hundred miles from the island that the original park was located on so he was fairly certain that was his destination.

Going through one of his contacts in the Costa Rican government, Dodgson soon discovered that Ingen held the rights to not one but two islands in that chain. The first was Isla Nublar, the location of the original Jurassic Park complex. The second was a much larger island eighty miles from the first island.

Going deeper into government records, Dodgson found building permits and massive shipments of building materials had travelled from the mainland to this second island called Isla Sorna, almost a decade ago.

Even more promising, were the records of large quantities of chemicals that were commonly used in genetics research laboratories. The government customs agency had records of hazardous chemicals being shipped regularly to that island until the summer ninety-four.

Lewis vaguely remembered Nedry telling him once that the dinosaurs were shipped to the island from another location. Lewis knew this island must be where they were brought in from.

So Dodgson had decided to take a gamble and follow his gut on this, he and his assistant had caught a redeye cargo flight to Costa Rica with minimal gear (which had been insanely expensive to book a flight on such short notice).

So here he was preparing to unload the olive drab 1997 Land Rover Defender packed full of collection equipment, hoping to beat Ingen to the punch or at least even the playing field a bit.

He was just lucky the company already had this vehicle set up for transporting venom samples in the rainforest. What they would be collecting today would need to be kept cool. This rig had a miniature refrigerator bolted to the floorboard that was hooked up to a power converter. This had some drawbacks as the engine would have to run constantly otherwise the refrigerator would quickly drain the two twelve-volt batteries and the car wouldn't be able to start. Compensating for this meant they had two jerry cans of gasoline in the racks on either side of the spare tire so they wouldn't end up stranded.

Other than the vehicle they had a few collection tools, a small amount of food and water, and some non-lethal weapons.

All he needed to collect were blood and maybe skin cells (if he could get them) from the animals and Biosyn's geneticists could take it from there. He hoped maybe to collect an egg or two to speed things along but he would settle for genetic material at this point.

They were currently coming up a northern inlet headed for a bank on the narrow river.

"Are you sure this will work?" Howard asked nervously as the saw what looked like a large crocodile swim by the barge before disappearing under the water.

"Yes, that sonic device the boys in R and D gave me will give us time to collect samples and get out, you just stick them with that pole and we can get out of there without a hitch," Lewis assured him as the barge neared the river bank.

"Alright, just don't get us killed," Howard sighed as the captain sounded the foghorn giving them the signal he was about to drop the ramp.

"Come on, we only have until sundown," Dodgson said as he climbed into the driver's seat and turned the ignition over.

"What happens at sundown," King asked as the barge's ramp lowered onto the bank.

"The skipper will leave with or without us," Dodgson said as he drove the car forward onto the overgrown bank and drove through the thick brush heading towards an old dirt road about fifty yards away from the river.

"It looks like he's leaving us now," King muttered as he looked out the back window.

"He's going to anchor offshore, there is a local legend that these islands are cursed and he is a chickenshit," Dodgson snorted as he pulled onto the dirt road and followed it North. The dense vegetation on either side of the road whipped the side of the vehicle as it forced its way into the jungle.

They drove through the dense jungle at a clipped pace as Dodgson was hoping to start north and work his way southwards. The plant life in this stretch seemed to consist of cycads, humongous ferns, and talls trees shooting high into the sky casting the area in shade. Dodgson's eyes bulged out as it looked like two greyish-green coloured tree trunks stepped into the overgrown roadway. It took Lewis a full ten seconds to process what he was seeing and quickly let off the gas pedal.

"Would you look at that!" Dodgson exclaimed as the massive sauropod stepped out of the jungle and completely blocked the road with its front legs, its head was on a long neck reaching so high they couldn't even see it due to the roof of the car.

"That's brachiosaur," King said in fascination as he leaned forward in his seat to try and get a glimpse of its head

"I know, quick get the probe," Dodgson said excitedly as he skidded to a halt and put the car in park.

The probe was a modification of a tool used for tagging sharks, instead of attaching a small tracking tag, this probe had a long sharp needle on the end of it. When you stabbed the needle into something it would depress a plunger inside the probe and draw anything it could into the collection vial also housed in the probe. Typically you aimed for an area that had good blood flow but with an animal this large, even if you hit a capillary in the epidermis it would be enough to fill the hundred-millilitre collection vial.

"Here," King said nervously as he pulled a six-foot-long aluminium stick with a green rubber T-handle on one end and a long red protective cap on the other, from the back floorboard.

"Wait right here," Dodgson said excitedly as he climbed out of the car and grabbed the probe by the handle, nearly smacking King in the head with it in his haste.

Lewis made it to the brachiosaur as its back feet stepped onto the roadway. Its front half was already disappearing into the jungle on the other side of the roadway making the ground quake with every step it took.

Twisting off the protective cap, Dodgson stuck the probe in right above the ankle joint and watched through the glass window on the side of the probe as the vial quickly filled with blood. The dinosaur didn't even seem to notice and continued walking making Dodson have to pull the probe back before the dinosaur lifted his leg. Dodgson put the protective cap over the needle and popped the vial out of the probe, before darting back to the car.

"Mark the vial and put it in the cooler, then reload the probe," Dodgson ordered as he handed King the stick and the vial of blood.

"That worked pretty well," King said as he wrote the species name on the vial of blood and leaned to the backseat to store the vial in the minifridge mounted in the back of the Land Rover.

"Yeah, the smaller ones we will probably have to sedate to collect their blood but the big ones we can get on the fly," Dodgson beamed as he put the car into gear and followed the road north.

They had only been driving for about ten minutes when they came into a paved area big enough to turn a vehicle around. Dodgson drove onto the turn around noticing there was a twenty-foot-high steel gate topped with barbed wire directly opposite the road. The whole area northward was surrounded by strong fencing that was also topped with barbed wire.

"What do you suppose is in there?" King asked worriedly as he popped a fresh vial onto the probe.

"Whatever was in there, is out now," Dodgson said sounding worried for the first time.

Looking where Dodgson was pointing, King saw where parts of the grid-style fence had been broken and the half-inch-thick bars twisted and bent outward forming a six-foot hole in the section to the left of the main gate.

"Danger beware of raptors," King read off of the tin sign affixed to both sides of the gate.

"Come on let's go have a look," Dodgson said as he removed a pistol from the centre console and stepped out of the car.

"Are you insane!?" King demanded sounding like he was about to panic.

"No, but make sure you grab the tranquillizer gun," Dodgson said as he grabbed the probe, tucking the Glock G20 into the waistband of his cargo shorts.

"I should have kept my mouth shut," King muttered as he stepped out of the car and folded his seat forward.

King had to shift some things around before he found the black plastic case he was looking for. Flipping open the case, he took out a Lindstradt C02-powered tranquillizer pistol and loaded it with a dart of carfentanil before clipping the pouch with spare darts on his belt. Once he loaded a fresh CO2 cartridge he was ready (as he would ever be).

"Alright, stay quiet and follow me," Lewis ordered as he approached the hole in the metal fencing.

Taking a closer look, King noticed the groves dug deep into the steel, whatever broke through that gate had bitten through the steel!

"O-okay," Howard nodded as he followed his boss to the edge of the fence, trying not to imagine what creature could bite through steel like that.

Howard was starting to regret accepting Lewis' offer to come work for him in his department. Howard knew he was hanging onto his job by a thread and Dodgson had saved him from being cut loose from Biosyn. After the disaster with his experimental heart medication had killed three of the test subjects he would not be able to find another job in this field. King was in his mid-thirties and had not built himself much of a reputation in his field so he would not be sought after by rival genetics companies.

Truthfully after the medication he designed had failed so spectacularly, King had lost his drive to develop medicines. He had hoped to get in helping Dodgson's team resurrect extinct creatures and had thought that was what the job entailed. He was wrong, he got paid handsomely but he was Lewis Dodgson's personal lackey and nothing more.

Now he didn't have a choice but to go along on this safari trip with Dodgson would do anything to get what he wanted, like leading them into a raptor paddock!

Before long they reached the gaping hole in the fence and cautiously stepped through the hole having to move carefully to avoid sharp pieces of metal jutting out at random angles.

They stepped into an open area with sparser vegetation growing low on the ground. About thirty yards from the fence, massive ferns grew thick obscuring their view of the rest of the enclosure though King thought he heard the sound of a bird cooing in the distance.

There were light blue feathers on the ground that looked like they came from a tropical bird of some size. There were also several large, two-toed footprints in the dirt. The toes were each about ten inches long and splayed outwards. It looked like there should have been another toe judging by the shape of the foot but for some reason, it didn't make contact with the ground.

"Whoa that's not a velociraptor track," Lewis muttered as he stared at the track in confusion.

"Then what is it?" King asked worriedly.

"Something bigger," Dodgson said as he picked up a handful of feathers from the ground and examined one of them closely.

"That's a downy feather," King said as he looked it over.

"Yeah, I thought so too," Dodgson said as he slipped the feathers into his pocket.

They heard the brush shift off in the distance and King's heart rate sped up significantly especially when he caught another glimpse of the tracks on the ground.

"Did you hear that?" Howard asked in alarm.

"Yeah, come on we have to hurry," Dodgson said as he followed the tracks towards a trail that led into the dense brush, the sounds of birds calling from the jungle around them.

'Cooooo-ooooh ahh'

'Cooooo-ooooh ahh'

'Cooooo-ooooh ahh'

They walked for about ten minutes before they came to another cleared area. This one appeared to be done by an animal as there was almost a perfect circle thirty feet wide where the undergrowth had been tamped down.

A large pile of dead grass, sticks, and leaves ten-feet wide and three-feet high was mounded up in the centre of the clearing making it pretty clear that this was a nest.

They could hear the chirping of young birds very close by and for some reason, this put Howard King even more on edge.

"Do you hear that?" King asked nervously as they entered the clearing.

"Yeah, there must be a bird's nest nearby," Dodgson said thoughtfully as something sprang out of the mound. and landed on two feet on the clearing floor.

It stood maybe eighteen inches high and was maybe three feet in length. Its skin was a dark brown colour with a tiger-like stripe pattern down its back and had light blue feather's on top of its head and down its neck like a mohawk. Its snout was long and slender and filled with tiny curved teeth. It moved nimbly on two legs bobbing its head as it walked, its long arms had three-fingered hands and were curled in an 'S' pattern against its tiny chest. Its tail was long for its size and powerfully built sticking out rigidly behind it. There was a three-inch claw on both of its feet lifted off of the ground looking quite formidable even for its diminutive size. King thought it was almost cute the way its orange eyes stared into theirs almost curiously like a human child would.

It cocked its head from side to side in a very birdlike motion before it chirped excitedly and two more of the creatures came out of the nest chirping loudly as well.

"We need to leave," King said urgently as the creatures started edging closer to them.

"Why," Lewis asked as he slipped the cap off of his probe.

"Because those are just hatchlings, how far away do you think the mother is?" King asked as he looked over his shoulder nervously.

"Alright just let me get a sample," Dodgson said.

"No don't-

King was too late and he cut off his warning when Dodgson lunged forward and stabbed the first hatchling in the neck with the probe quickly filling the vial but causing the baby animal to call out loudly and jerk back ripping out the needle in the process.

"Run," Dodgson said as he capped the bent needle noticing the baby raptor's neck was gushing blood where the needle had torn its skin on the way out.

"You son of a bitch, you killed it!" King hissed as he saw the hatchling collapse.

"Who cares," Dodgson said as he took off running King hot on his heels, the sounds of birds calling got much louder and sounded more sinister as they came out of the jungle and ran across the clearing.

'COOOOO-OOOOH-AHH'

'COOOOO-OOOOH-AHH'

'COOOOO-OOOOH-AHH'

Somehow they made it through the hole in the fence and into the car, Dodson was just putting the sample into the cooler when King saw three very large animals enter the clearing on the other side of the fence.

All three of them stood about eight feet at the shoulder blades looking to be at least twenty feet long from nose to tail. Their skin was a reddish-brown colour with the same black tiger striping and their long tails had black bands all the way to the tip.

The dinosaur in the middle had bright red feathers standing up like a mohawk on its head and running down its back to the shoulder blades. All three had the same build as the babies, just supersized, They stood six feet at the hips on powerfully built legs, the claws on their arms were three or four inches long and the sickle-shaped claw on their feet was close to twelve inches in length. Their heads were long and rounded and full of curved pointed two-inch teeth. Their eyes faced forward in their heads and all three creatures were focusing on the car as they crossed the clearing.

The dinosaur with the red feathers' eyes was a vibrant green with circular pupils that were boring straight into his, its lips were curled back, exposing long curved pointed teeth and its nostrils were flared, a clear sign of the animal's intentions toward the two humans.

The raptors (because there was no doubt in his mind that's what they were) on either side of the red one had a less pronounced mohawk of light blue feathers and were slightly smaller than the one with red feathers. Their eyes were a yellowish colour but they to were staring at him and Dodgson with fury etched onto their features.

Howard King felt a shiver run down his spine when he made eye contact with the one with the red feathers, he had never felt fear like this before in his life. Howard knew that animal wanted to kill him, the look in its eyes showed nothing but pure primal hatred for the one that killed its young. He wasn't an animal behaviourist but he knew they had to leave now!

"We need to go the fuck out here, Lew!" King exclaimed hysterically when the three raptors began approaching the hole in the fence.

"Alright," Dodgson said as he caught sight of the animals and quickly shifted into drive.

"Shit!" Dodgson exclaimed as he made a hasty U-turn and began accelerating down the road as the red feathered raptor slipped through the hole in the fence and charged towards them at a sprint

'CRASH'

The back window shattered as the raptor slammed its head into the vehicle rocking the car with the force of the impact and causing Dodgson to swerve wildly and floor the accelerator.

The animal slammed into them again almost pushing them into a tree before the car picked up enough speed to leave them behind.

"What the hell was that?!" Dodgson demanded as they left the animal behind them following the road south.

"Not a clue but I think it's some type of raptor," King said looking out the back window and seeing the raptor watching them drive off its eyes locked onto his again.

"No shit but there isn't a raptor that big!" Dodgson argued sounding very annoyed.

"There is one," King corrected as he remembered reading about a discovery made in Utah by James Kirkland a few years ago.

"What is it?" Dodgson demanded as they turned down a road heading east along the other side of the inlet they came in from, in the distance, they could see a massive complex.

"The utahraptor, largest Dromaeosaurid ever discovered," King answered as the jungle opened up to wide plains around the complex, quite a few herd animals were milling around in the field mostly duck-billed dinosaurs but there were a few triceratopses mixed in with them.

"That wasn't on Nedry's list, that means we still have at least fourteen species to go," Dodgson said as he followed the road down a slight hill to the complex.

"This is going to be a very long day," King muttered as they came to a stop on the edge of the field.

"Alright, let's go see if we can collect a few more samples," Dodgson said as he stepped out of the vehicle and opened the door behind him rummaging for fresh collection vials.

"Come on King, daylights wasting," Dodgson said with a touch of impatience as he waited for his assistant to shakily get out of the car.

'This man is going to get me killed,' King thought to himself as they approached the triceratops feeding on ferns near the edge of the field.

Neither Howard King nor Lewis Dodgson knew they were being watched from the forest, nor that their watchers' ancestors were following their tire tracks and had not settled their score with the two trespassers just yet.
