Chapter 4

"Where are you guy's going?" Steve asked when we arrived at Sam's apartment. Natasha and Wanda were there already and they looked like they were dressed to head out.

"We are going out boy's and I am not taking no for an answer," Natasha said as she pushed Sam into his bathroom: "But you shower first, because you smell!"

"Nat's bored so we are going out for dinner and then we are going out," Wanda explained and I could tell Steve was just as unenthusiastic as I was about the idea of going out. We both preferred to stay in and meet his friends at someone's home. I'm pretty sure I heard the man groan when Wanda turned to say something to Natasha.

"We aren't exactly dressed to head out," Steve tried to excuse us but the Russian red head wasn't buying it: "Steve you are an eleven on a scale to ten. You could show up in anything and you will still be the best looking guy in the room, so I'm sure you'll manage."

I laughed as I saw my friend blush from her compliment. He was never good with receiving compliments, then again back in the day he didn't get any. I was the one who the women wanted and they tolerated Steve's presences because I wanted him there.

"I hate your friends," I whispered in his ear as we waited for Sam to get ready. He chuckled and I felt his hand on my shoulder, gently squeezing it: "So do I sometimes."

Wanda handed us both a beer and we sat down in the coach waiting for Sam to get dressed. He took too long according to Natasha and so she walked in on him. We laughed as we heard him shout at her to get out and other things that clearly indicated he was embarrassed. The red head walked out of his bedroom with a huge smile on her face and she eyed me and Steve: "Remember to never keep me waiting."

"Oh we'll remember that," Steve said and we laughed again as Sam stumbled out of his room, curshing Natasha's name. He went quite though when she pointed out she could say whatever she wanted about what she had seen in his bedroom: "I could be generous or very stingy."

"Steve, I don't like your friends," Sam whispered to us when he passed us on our way out. It had become a joke between us whenever our colleagues or whatever you want to call them annoyed us. W would always refer to them as Steve's friends.

Natasha took us to a restaurant in Manhattan. I stayed at Steve's side and listened mostly to the conversation the others were having. Recently I started feeling more comfortable going out and being among people. My heart wasn't racing as much and I didn't feel the need to constantly look over my shoulder. I guess therapy was finally starting to pay off, but I did stay close to Steve and Wanda when he wasn't around. I didn't like that she could infiltrate your mind, but she was powerful enough to contain me if necessary.

"So where are we going to go tonight? Got any ideas Nat?" Wanda asked when we were done and the red head pulled her phone out to look for interesting clubs to head to. It felt so surreal they were actually taking us out. Steve and I were going to see the nightlife of New York that we both have been avoiding tremendously these last couple of years. It just doesn't seem to be our scene.

"I read about a new club opening not that far from here actually. We could head there?" Natasha suggested and Sam seemed to know about what club she was talking about: "I heard it has a rather exclusive guest list. I doubt we would get in."

"Are you kidding me? Getting into places where I'm not invited to is one of my specialties," the red head joked and she sent Wanda a knowing wink, who seemed to know what she was talking about and agreed with her: "I don't think getting in will be a problem."

"Then it's settled! Come on boy's, could you please pout less? It doesn't suite you," Natasha scolded me and Steve and I remember that Alex was going out tonight as well. What did she say to Pepper: some club that was opening and she would be using her boss' invite? Could we be heading to the same club? No, there's no way we would run into each other in a city as big as New York. There are probably ten other clubs opening tonight.

"Are you okay with this?" Steve asked me while we followed the others. The two women had latched their arms around Sam and were planning on finding the man a woman tonight. I prayed in my head they didn't get it into their heads to pull that crap on me or Steve.

"I'll be fine," I assured him: "You know she is also going out tonight with her friends."

"And how do you know that?" Steve asked me surprised and I could already hear him hoping we would run into her.

"Slow down there punk. There is no way we are going to run into her and she mentioned it when we were in Peppers office," I explained and I could tell Steve wanted to argue it could happen, but I beat him to it: "And what if we do run into her? Like you would walk up to her and chat her up."

"It could…happen," Steve tried to argue with me but even he could tell he would never just walk up to a woman and start casual conversation. Not even someone he has talked to before. I laughed as he looked at his shoes but he got back at me by shoving me and saying: "You can chat her up and I'll take her over from you then."

We never talked about the soul mark we shared, never made any movements that could be considered romantic or inappropriate. And we didn't talk about women or mention if someone looked good which I'm sure we used to do back in the day. Well I think I would be the one to point out a pretty dame and he would agree.

"You should only be so lucky I would be willing to share," I got back at him and we dropped the matter because Wanda pushed herself between us and she slide her arms around ours: "So do you guys have any interests in…"

"No, no, don't even think about it," I interrupted her knowing what she was up to and Steve agreed with me quickly: "Forget it Wanda."

"Are you sure? I'm sure two fine looking gentlemen such as yourself would like to…" she continued and Steve didn't let her finish: "Wanda I'm begging you, drop it."

"Fine if you guys are sure. I'm sure Nat and I could find you some pretty girl," the witch said and we both picked up on the fact that she said girl and not girls, but we didn't mention it. That's a can I don't feel like opening tonight and in the presences of her, Natasha and Sam. The punk had a slight red blush on his cheeks and it made him look far too good, so I kept my eyes in front of me. He always blushed easily.

"Ready boy's?" Natasha asked us and she tilted her head to the club we were heading to. It had a long line of people waiting outside and we could hear the music from where we were standing. This sounds promising I thought, but didn't have much time to think about it because the feisty red head slipped her arm around mine and pulled me in with her. As I took in the scene, the loud music, the way people were dressed, especially the women I hoped we wouldn't run into Alex, because I'm not sure I want to see her dressed like most women in here. It's too much skin showing to my taste. I looked over my shoulder and could see Steve was just as uneasy with this place as I was. Wanda was still at his side and he had offered her his arm.

"Don't forget to breath James," Nat told me and she squeezed my arm. She guided us to the back and we managed to get ourselves a table. Sam graphed us some beers and wine for the women. He began telling us about his day and I pretended to listen while I scanned the room. The nightlife is very different from my day. I didn't understand the music and the dancing even less. Women always danced by using their hips but these women were doing a lot more than just using their hips.

"Are you sure you are alright with this?" Steve asked me after ten minutes as I was trying to figure out what I was smelling. I could see people smoking but they weren't cigarettes, but surely people wouldn't be smoking drugs so openly: "You're just asking me that because you want to leave."

"Is it that obvious?" Steve complained and we both looked at a group of women. They were young, probably early twenties and looked very eager to be here. They also appeared to be slightly drunk from their many giggles and loud talking.

"Yeah punk, we're going to have to sit this one out I'm afraid," I sighed and drank from my beer again. I watched as men tried to chat up the young group. Why don't men stand up straight anymore these days? What's with the slouching? Do women really find that attractive?

"You think they'll buy it if we pretend to get a phone call from Tony?" Steve asked me and he leaned his arms on the table we were standing at, mimicking my pose, his arm touching mine. I always wonder if he does it on purpose, seeking out physical contact when he is nervous or uncomfortable.

"And say what? There's an emergency but don't bring the witch because we won't need her powers," I point out and lean into his arm a bit more to reassure him. He sighed and finished his drink: "I didn't think so."

"Is it me or are the women just…" I started saying after a few minutes of just observing our surrounding. The others let us be and talked among themselves amicably, while we kept taking it all in. I don't think I have seen one women walk in here wearing pants or something that came over their knees. And they were all wearing high heels, like very high heels.

"To much?" Steve finished my sentence and I chuckled: "Way too much. And they want to find us a date huh? It would be a funny experiment just to see who they would find for us."

"Don't give them ideas Bucky, I'll have to deal with it and you get to just sulk off," Steve warned me and I laughed at that. He was probably right. One look at me and they would run for the hills and Steve would have to deal with them: "Haha probably. But don't worry about it punk."

We both went back to scanning the room and our eyes met several times when we noticed a scandalous outfit walk past us. It made us laugh realizing we were so out of tune with a place like this. If we do end up seeing her tonight and she is dressed like these women, then Steve will never be able to look her in the eye again.

"Just do me a favor Steve and don't get your hopes up to much. You could still be wrong about what you saw," I warned my friend and he got defensive on me immediately: "I know what I saw Buck, it is the same mark as us. Why are you not more excited about this?"

"Because I'm realistic," I answered honestly. What poor woman would want to find out her soulmate is the Winter Soldier? Even finding out that Steve would also be your soulmate isn't the greatest catch if you think about it. We come from different times and were raised with different morals and dreams then people these days. What woman would want to put up with all that is going on in our lives? We deal with constant dangerous people and weekly end up in two or three dangerous situations. I wouldn't want to deal with it, but I do it so I can watch Steve's back. I trust Sam to look after him, but I needed to be by his side. He is reckless and impulsive and tends to forget that even with the serum he can still be hurt.

"I hate it when you say that," Steve said and I understood why he said it. He was always the one who wanted the house with the white picket fence, the wife and the kids. Before I left for the war I didn't want any of those things. I just wanted to have a good time and keep Steve by my side. We lived in times where our connection wasn't excepted so we never acted upon our feelings. I always pushed those thoughts away whenever they dared to surface.

"Hey what about the hottie that just walked in?" Sam pointed out a women to Natasha and Wanda and Steve and I looked over to see who he was talking about. I shook my head though from hearing the way Sam could speak about women. A group of women walked in, all dressed a lot better than most women we had seen in here. Their dresses weren't as short and their cleavages as deep. I didn't give much attention to the group, but Steve elbowed me and I looked again. They started walking in, down the stairs and I noticed a familiar face was among them, walking in the back talking to a woman with an even darker skin tone then Sam.

"Which one do you mean Sam? They are all rather fit," Natasha asked and I didn't like the way they were talking so casual about them. Like they were just pieces of meat. I could feel Steve tense up beside me.

"The dark one in the back talking to the one in the silver dress. You gone be my wingman Nat?" Sam asked Natasha and she gave him a very seductive smile. She turned to us: "We'll catch up with you guys in a bit."

"Are you sure you don't want me to chat someone up for you?" Wanda asked us when the duo had left and I followed them walking up towards the group, but they stopped at the bar for some reason. What is a wingman? Sounds like a military term. I turned my head to Steve and I could tell he was suppressing a smile.

"God you are pathetic," I laughed and drank from my beer, avoiding Wanda's prying eyes. Steve slapped me on my back and I almost chocked on my drink: "That's because I hang out with you jerk."

"So who are you guy's talking about?" Wanda asked and we both looked confused at her. How could she have picked up on that? I'm sure she hadn't gone into my head because you could feel it when she does it. She continued: "Did she come in with the woman Sam was being rude about?"

"What do you mean?" Steve asked and he tried to sound nonchalant, but he was never any good at lying. It also didn't help his eyes followed the group as they moved towards the bar, busy talking to each other, not noticing Sam and Natasha eyeing them.

"Because the Captain stopped sulking and started smiling when that group of girls just walked in," Wanda pointed out and tilted her head to Steve before continuing: "And he's blushing, so it has to be because of a girl."

I didn't respond to that and just chuckled. I found the woman quickly again and followed her movements as she moved around the club. She bought drinks and then she and her friends went to the dancefloor. The floor was packed so I lost her quickly again.

"So what's your move going to be?" Wanda asked Steve and he chuckled while looking at his drink. Wanda didn't wait for his replay and continue: "You have no clue, do you? What about you soldier?"

"Excuse me?" I asked and Steve looked up curious to me and Wanda.

"Aren't you going to make a move? Or be his wing man?" Wanda asked and Steve and I looked even more confused: "What is a wing man?"

"A friend who helps you make a move on someone. Someone to point out your qualities or annoy the other person so the other one can swoop in and save them," Wanda explained and it sounded like something I would do to help Steve pick up a girl.

"I think I will be fine on my own," Steve said and I doubted that. Apparently so did Wanda and Steve noticed it: "You guy's suck."

"I got this," Wanda told me and gave me a wink before she headed towards the dancefloor. What is that girl up to? I could tell Steve wanted to stop her, but he didn't. And neither did I. We followed her as she moved to the dancefloor, but lost her quickly among the dancing people.

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Steve asked me and I shook my head: "Probably not, but I didn't hear you stopping her."

"Neither did you," Steve shot back at me and eyed me curiously, probably wondering why I hadn't stopped Wanda. I ignored it and we stayed hidden in the back while Sam and Natasha tried to make a move on the woman he had called a hottie, God, that's…just…nope.

Wanda reappeared half an hour later when I saw her talking to Alex at the bar. Both had drinks in their hands and whatever they were talking about made the woman smile. I observed her as she talked to Wanda. She was talking so carefree even though she had only just met Wanda. She was wearing her hair down and it was slightly curly. The dress she was wearing was tight and had an opening in the back but it was at least longer than every others women's dress and she wasn't showing much cleavage. Just enough to tease a little. She looked good and I could tell, even from a distance, that she was wearing red lipstick.

"What is Wanda up to?" Steve asked me as we both notice the woman walking towards us with Alex behind her. She hadn't noticed us yet and she waved at her friends to let them know where she was.

"No idea punk, but don't screw it up," I told him and he elbowed my side, what made me chuckle.

"Hey guy's, I'm going to go play pool with my new friend. Anyone want to join us?" Wanda asked acting all innocently. Alex didn't noticed but she was surprised to me and Steve here: "I thought it was boy's night tonight?"

"We thought so too but apparently we needed to get out more often," Steve said and she turned her gaze to me: "And you? Goes clubbing and knows Harry Potter? Aren't you just full of surprises?"

"You know Harry Potter?" Wanda asked me and looked genially surprised at me. Alex answered for me and told her about our conversation in the toy store.

"No shit and here I thought I knew everything about you," Wanda joked and I smirked at her: "Anyway, have you guy's seen Nat and Sam?"

"They are still being pathetic at the bar, trying to hit on one of your friends," I said and looked at Alex who seemed surprised. She was holding a cocktail that had a green color. It looked…it looked weird as hell. The woman turned to the bar and asked us: "Sam as in bird boy?"

Her comment made Steve laugh hard and I bit my lip to keep myself from laughing out as well. Yip that's his new nickname.

"Yes in fact, the one and only," Wanda said and pretended to look around, but I could tell she knew full well where the duo was and was just looking for an excuse to leave us alone.

"And who is he hoping to score with? I might be able to give you some intel," Alex said and Wanda described the woman who she had walked in with. She knew immediately who the witch meant: "Oh you mean Hillary? Oh I would warn your friend that if he's looking for a one night stand, she is not the girl. She takes crazy-obsessive to a whole new level. And he better call her in the morning or else."

"Or else what?" Wanda asked and Alex sent her a knowing look, which Wanda seemed to understand: "Okay, I'm going to go and save Sam from your friend. I'll get us some new drinks."

"White wine for me," Alex called after the witch, who sent me and Steve a look that I pretended to not see. Alex turned back to us and I could fully take in her look and damn the dress she was wearing looked very fine on her body. I have seen her before at Starks tower a handful of times and she was always dressed neatly but what I assume would be considered stylish. This was a whole other look on her and I was very pleased we went along with the others in going out.

"And how are you boy's finding this practically scene? I wouldn't see you two for the hiphop type," she said and took a sip from her drink.

"It's different from what we're used to," Steve said and I noticed she was slightly moving her hips to the music as she talked. I shook my head to keep my mind from wondering places.

"Oh I can imagine. Have you been out before or is this the first time they dragged you out with them?" she asked and I could tell she already wasn't completely sober. I couldn't help but feel worried about that.

"This is the first time they managed to drag us out," she asked and she moved to the other side of our table to stand between us. She placed her glass on the table and her hands ran threw her hair: "And they take you to a place like this? Some great friends you have."

"I've been telling him that for a while but he's a stubborn ass sometimes," I said and received a shove from Steve. It made her laugh when Steve called me a jerk.

"So ready for the big party tomorrow?" Steve asked and she had to ask him to repeat his question because the music was too loud. He leaned closer to her and I saw his hand touch the small of her back. She didn't pull back or act surprised by the touch at all or the fact that he was leaning so close.

"Oh yeah, going to be a blast. My friends insisted on going out but they all get to sleep in tomorrow, whereas I have to get up at eight," she explained and he asked why she needed to get there that early. She ran her fingers through her hair again and tried to push it back. I could see the mark behind her ear clearly now. A red and white star, both the same size and next to each other. Exactly the same as Steve's mark on his lower abdomen. I always thought his mark was in a far to enticing place, but that's a secret I'm not sharing.

"I promised Morgan I would help her set everything up and that we would bake cake and cookies and make milkshakes for the party. And mister Stark ordered a couple of bouncy castles so I need to be there to let them in. Oh and help set up the caterer for the evening barbeque," she explained but got cut of when some guy bumped into her making her fall forward against the table. Steve was quick to catch her and keep her on her feet. I graphed the drunk guy who had bumped into her by his collar and pushed him away from us, slightly angry for his intrusion but pleased because I liked the sight of her in Steve's arms. The man disappeared in the crowd, not aware of what had just happened.

"Are you alright?" Steve asks her and I noticed she was wearing very high heels. I thought she looked taller than earlier. I saw his hands were on her hips and she looked so small compared to his broad frame.

"Sure, shouldn't have worn these heels anyway," she said and she pulled back from Steve. He let her but I knew he was reluctant to let her go.

"Ready to play?" Wanda appeared again at our table and handed Alex the wine she had ordered. She took a sip from it and she notted her head: "Sure. I guess I'll see you guys tomorrow?"

"Have a nice evening ma'am," Steve said and I was surprised he didn't take up Wanda's offer to join them. So was Wanda who raised an eyebrow behind Alex her back at us.

"See you tomorrow ma'am," I said and she leaned closer to me before leaving and spoke in my ear: "Then make sure to get a haircut before you head up there Sergeant."

"I'll remember that ma'am," I said and Steve chuckled next to me. He drank from his beer but had a smirk hanging on his lips when he was done. I turned my head back to him once she and Wanda were out of sight: "What?"

"You do need a haircut Sergeant," he said and drank from his beer again. I elbowed him: "Shut up Captain. Why didn't you take up Wanda's offer of playing pool with them?"

"Do you really want to talk to her with Wanda standing nearby and listening to everything," Steve asked me and he did have a point. We were joined by Nat and Sam, who had taken Wanda's warning serious about Alex her friend.
