Chapter 6 part 2

We picked up our pace to his car and if I wasn't worried about my bosses and Morgan I would have felt flattered that even in a time of urgency the Captain managed to open the door of his car for me. The ride didn't take long and I used my badge to get us upstairs. There weren't any cops but I wasn't supersized that my bosses would want to keep this quite. Friday informed us when we arrived in the hallway that mister Stark and miss Pots were in the living room, along with Happy and two other security people whose names I don't know.

"Miss Pots? Mister Stark?" I called as I opened the front door of their loft with my key. Mister Stark was standing in the doorway, arguing with miss Pots. Morgan wasn't in sight, but that was maybe a good thing. Mister Stark was wearing the hand pieces of his Iron Man suite and aimed his hand at the door the second I opened it. The Captain quickly pulled me aside and shielded my body for any incoming attack. I placed my hands against his chest to keep my balance and couldn't help but notice how damn well it was developed. I also couldn't help but notice how he smelled, again. And how piercing his eyes could be when he looked down at me with concern.

"Taylor? What are you doing here?" Mister Stark asked and the Captain let me go, but I felt his hands pull back slowly and I needed to swallow to get rid of the lump in my throat.

"I was on my way out when I ran into Miss Taylor. It seemed like she could be useful knowing she looks after Morgan sometimes," the Captain said. I didn't realize he knew I looked after the girl sometimes, but didn't think about it long because miss Pots seemed to be shaken out of her shock at the mention of Morgan's name: "Oh god, Morgan. Where's Morgan?"

"I'll take care of her," I said and walked towards the girls bedroom, as the others went to mister Starks home office. Miss Pots asked one of the security guards, whose name was Rhonson apparently, to check the hallway and the front door for any security weaknesses. I closed the door between the living room and the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and bathroom to make sure Morgan wouldn't hear the others arguing anymore. Her bedroom was next to the living area and it was a very typical little girls room: soft green walls with flowers and butterflies, toy's everywhere because Morgan was a rather messy. Miss Pots did her best to make sure she cleaned up her room before bedtime, but with the break-in I'm sure they would let it slide for one night.

"Morgan?" I called out and found the girl hiding under her covers, Maximus sitting behind her and she was turned into him to look for comfort. She turned to look at me and I could see fear in her eyes. Her room was dark, except for the city lights, so I turned on one of her nightlights. She crawled out of bed and I picked her up to hug her. I felt her shake in my arms and could tell she wasn't going to let go of me anytime soon.

"What happened Morgan?" I asked and walked to the couch she had in her room in front of the window. She always let her curtains open because she liked to see the lights of the city. Friday would close the blinders once the girl fell asleep. She had a rather spectacular view of the city.

"We were making a drawing for daddy…a man broke in…he had a…gun…he shouted at mommy," Morgan explained with a very shaky voice. I sat down in the couch and rubbed her back gently to comfort her. She continued after a few minutes of silence: "Mommy fought him of and then daddy came."

"Did Rescue come?" I asked knowing Morgan really liked the fact her mother had a suite of her own and sometimes used it. She looked up more to her mother then her father, but miss Pots doesn't realize that and mister Stark likes thinking he's the one his daughter looks up to. Morgan didn't answer right away so I waited until she was ready to continue and kept on rubbing her back while she took her time to calm down.

"Mommy kicked the man's butt and then daddy took him away. They have been shouting at each other ever since," Morgan explained and I tightened my hug. Kids shouldn't hear their parents fight, but I guess sometimes you just can't hide it. And miss Pots and mister Stark were kind of hotheads at times and impulsive and got tunnel vision when a crisis happened in their lives that involved their family.

"Did you get hurt?" I asked and she shook her head. I notice she wasn't in her pajama's yet, so I figured she probably hasn't showered yet. I slowly pushed her back and leaned my forehead against hers: "How about I make you a sandwich and you take a bath. And we'll watch a movie from the bathtub?"

"We can do that?" Morgan asked and wiped her tears away with her shirt. I could see there were more tears in her eyes and gave her a comforting smile: "Of course we can watch a movie from the bathtub. And I know just the one I want to watch right now."

"Which one?" Morgan asked me curious and I stood up with the girl in my arms: "Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban."

"Oh that's where Draco is really cute," Morgan said with a slight giggle and I agreed with her. I knew she had a crush on the character and she really liked the whole werewolf aspect in that movie. She kind of likes monsters in movies. Godzilla is one of her favorites, but her parents don't know about that. I watched it once with her, reluctantly, when I babysit her and she loved it so much.

"Yes he is, so what do you say kid?" I asked and a small smile started spreading on her face.

"Okay, but I want extra chocolate on my sandwich," Morgan said and I pretended to think about her request. She quickly added: "Eating chocolate helps with getting over your fears. Professor Lupin say's so himself."

"Well I can't argue with the professor," I said and Morgan's smile grew. She'll be alright. I walked her to the bathroom and got the tub running while she undressed. I found some bubbly soap and Morgan laughed as I pretended to be clumsy and put way to much soap in the bathtub. She got in the tub and I went to the kitchen to make her a sandwich and graphed the laptop that held the Starks movie collection. Rhonson was checking the security system with Friday when I walked in the kitchen: "How's the kids doing?"

"We're going to watch a movie, take a bath and eat chocolate sandwiches. She'll be alright," I responded and made two sandwiches for the kid and one for me. I was on my way back to the bathroom when I heard a phone buzzing. I looked around and it took me a while to realize that it was coming from the Captain's jacket, that was hanging over a chair. I pulled out the phone and the caller ID showed the name 'Bucky'. I contemplated bringing the phone to the Captain, but I heard them in heavy discussion, so I think this call would have to wait. The Sergeant hung up rather quickly, so I put the phone back in the Captain's pocket and went back to Morgan.

"Ready for Harry Potter and…oh shit!" I said as I walked into the bathroom to see the foam overflow from the tub and spread over the floor. The little girl had gotten in the tub and was giggling as she scooped some soap in her hands and blew it at me: "I think you overdid it."

"You think?" I said sarcastically and placed the laptop on the toilet and started the movie. I had skipped the first part and started the movie when Harry arrived at school. The Dementor scene might be a bit too much right now. I handed the girl her first sandwich and walked back to the kitchen in search for a mop. This is not the way how I envisioned my night would go.

As I walked back to the bathroom I heard the Captain's phone go of again. I stopped and contemplated on checking the phone to see if it was the Sergeant calling again. I should let this go. I mean I'm basically invading the Captain's privacy. But my curiosity got the better of me and I checked the caller ID. It said 'Bucky' again. He had been calling a few times and sent a couple of text messages. Maybe I should pick up and let the man know the Captain is alright. I was suspecting the Sergeant was worried. The phone stopped going off again and I figured that would be it. I was at the door to the hallway though when the phone went off again. I sighed, went back and picked up the phone. For some reason I felt more uncomfortable knowing the Sergeant was worried then I felt about invading the Captain's privacy: "Good evening, Captain Rogers is unavailable at the moment…"

"Who is this?" the Sergeant cut me off and I realized I probably should have opened up with saying my name. I picked up on the Sergeants tone. It sounded tense and on edge. I felt better knowing the man needed to know what was going on.

"This is Alex, Miss Pots assistance. Captain Rogers is in a meeting with Mister Stark at the moment and…" I tried to explain, but the Sergeant cut me off again. I should have thought he was being rude but for some reason I didn't think he was being rude on purpose. He was just worried about his friend: "Where is he?"

"We are at mister Stark's loft. There was a situation and Mister Stark asked for Captain Rogers to come by immediately," I continued explaining and I could hear the man sigh. I wonder what was going through his head at the moment. Talking to him made my stomach feel all tense and in knots but I didn't understand why. It annoyed me that I felt annoyed that the Sergeant was worried for some reason.

"Why can't he pick up his phone?" the Sergeant asked and I noticed his tone was slightly off, like he sounded tired. I shook my head and focused on searching a mob to handle the mess in the bathroom.

"He left it in his jacket and left that on the dining table. They are meeting in private and hearing from the tones it's not the time for me to interrupt them. So is this phone call important or can it wait?" I asked and found the mob I was looking for.

"Just checking up on him," the Sergeant confessed and I heard him sigh again. Is he really that worried? Or is something else going on?

"He's currently fine and I'll make sure he calls you back as soon as possible. He's just dishing it out with my boss, while I look after Morgan," I joked and chuckled as I imagined the two of them in a boxing ring. I checked with Rhonson before I headed back to Morgan to see if he was alright and needed anything. He eyed my mob curiously, but I just rolled my eyes at him and went back to Morgan.

"Isn't that Pepper's job?" the Sergeant asked and I was a bit surprised by his forwardness. It's not like we know each other well.

"She's playing ref for the Captain and mister Stark. But I have to hang up because I have a bit of a soap bubble incident in the bathroom and I need to make sure the kid isn't drowning in it," I said and wanted to end the call to get back to Morgan, but my story made the Sergeant curious apparently: "What?"

"Morgan's taking a bath and I put too much bubble soap in it so now it's everywhere in the bathroom. It's a giant mess," I sighed and closed the door between the bedrooms and living room behind me.

"Sounds like you have quite the situation on your hands there ma'am," the Sergeant said and I picked up that he sounded calmer for some reason. I decided to just take the phone with me to the bathroom and put him on speaker because I had a feeling he needed to talk to someone: "Yes it's quite the situation… Hey Morgan, you still alive in there?"

"Who are you calling to?" Morgan asked and I laid the phone down on the sink. The kid pointed to her second sandwich and I handed it to her while the Sergeant answered: "Hi kid."

"Oh hi Robo-man. We're watching Harry Potter!" Morgan told him while I started mobbing the floor. I can't believe this is what I'm doing tonight. I should be the one soaking in a bathtub with a glass of red wine watching a movie or something.

"Isn't it past your bedtime?" the Sergeant asked and I met Morgan's eyes and shook my head. She quickly came up with a lie to cover up why she was still up. I wasn't sure that my bosses would want him to know what had happened.

"And you are watching a movie while taking a bath?" the Sergeant asked and Morgan started telling him about the movie and I noticed the Sergeant asked questions and sounded genially interested in what she was saying. As the two talked I kept on mopping the floor. Sadly wet floor can be slippery and as I was steaming in my own head I didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing and I slipped and fall against the bathtub, lost my balance and fell right in. Morgan was quick to ask if I was alright and offer me help. I was genially surprised she didn't laugh at me first before asking if I was alright. I luckily didn't hit my head, but I did smack my back into the wall. I needed a minute to compose myself because damn that hurt a lot! I heard the Sergeant ask over the phone what was going on and Morgan tried to explain.

"Oh man I so don't get paid enough for this shit kid," I complained and realized I was in bath with Morgan, completely soaked. Even my shoes were wet. Why didn't I take those when I started mopping the floor?

"Yeah you might be right about that," Morgan agreed with me and I sent her a smile. She must have sensed that I wasn't injured to badly because she added: "I'll give you ten bucks from my piggybank to make it up to you."

I laughed at her offer she quickly joined me. When we calmed down I slowly got out of the tub, my back already getting sore. I will probably feel that tomorrow. Maybe I should stop by a pharmacy to get some light pain medication for the night and tomorrow.

"Ma'am!?" I heard the Sergeant call over the phone when I was out of the tub. I pulled a towel from one of the sink cabinets and started drying my hair while I answered: "Yes?"

"Are you alright?" I picked up on the fact he sounded concerned. Maybe not surprising since the noises that he must have heard would be really weird. I heard someone cough behind me and saw Rhonson standing there with a raised eyebrow and a little bit of glee in his eyes: "I heard a commotion. Should I even ask?"

I used my towel to smack him and he quickly went back to the living room. Jackass. Should I even ask? How much money that every security guard knows about this tomorrow? I turned my attention back to Morgan and the Sergeant: "I slipped and fell in the tub. I'll be alright."

"Did you hurt yourself?" the Sergeant asked and I should have felt flattered but the pain in my back was keeping me distracted: "What do you think sweetie?"

"Sarcasm?"

"You think?" I asked with a bit more edge in my tone then I wanted. I'm so not going to be able to sleep tonight. I really wanted to scream to get rid of my frustrations, but couldn't because of Morgan. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.

"Need a kiss to make it better?" the Sergeant asked and I froze in my movements. Morgan noticed and we both eyed the phone curiously. Did he really just say that? When I found my voice again, it came out stammering: "As a matter of fact I think I might just need that."

"Hey Morgan, could you do me a favor?" the Sergeant asked the little girl and she smiled brightly at me and waved me to her. I rolled my eyes but complied and she kissed the top of my head. She sounded very giggly as when she turned to the phone: "Done, robo-man."

"Thank you," the Sergeant said and I could just picture him standing in his house with a smug smile on his face. I stood up and took the phone in my hand and turned off the speaker. Morgan eyed me curiously, so I stuck out my tongue to her. She rolled her eyes, exactly like her father did and then stuck her tongue out at me. She let it go and turned her attention back to the movie as I tried to dry myself as much as possible.

"Feeling better yet?" the Sergeant asked and I smirked as I looked at myself in the mirror. I looked like a drowning cat. Luckily my makeup hadn't been smudged because then I would look like a drowning cat dressed as a clown. I started pulling my hair up in a messy bun: "Only slightly."

"Are you asking for another kiss ma'am?" the Sergeant asked and I stopped with making the bun and looked at myself in the mirror. Did he just…? It took me a few seconds to find my voice and figure out how to respond to that. I was intrigued by his cheeky offer: "Maybe I am."

"You'll just have to ask Steve for one then," the Sergeant replied and I rolled my eyes at myself, very reminiscent of Morgan's eye roll earlier and continued with my hair: "You're not offering one?"

"Unfortunately not right now. Maybe next time ma'am," the Sergeant continued and I noticed the call had been going on for a couple of minutes now. Why was he still on the phone? This conversation is rather pointless or is he hoping the Captain will show up and he can talk to him?

"I'll remember that Sergeant, "I said and he made me freeze again when he responded with a tone I could only describe as smug: "I'm counting on it."

"I'm sure you will, but I have to go now," I shot back at him, deciding I wasn't going to let his cheeky comments get to me. I'm a woman of the twenty-first century. Mild fli…whatever these comments were, did not affect me.

"Need to find some dry clothes?"

"Yes as a matter of fact I do," I said and walked to the Starks walk-in closet. I was very grateful that Miss Pots and I basically share the same size in clothing and that I have been in her bedroom on numerous occasions, so she wouldn't mind to much that I borrowed some of her clothes. She also basically owed me right now.

"I'll keep my comments to myself then," the Sergeant said while I searched for a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

"Are you sure you will be able to control yourself?" I asked and found what I needed. From the looks of the very washed label I guessed the pants were rather old and I recognized the t-shirt for miss Pots had worn it the first time I went to their house upstate, four years ago. I'm sure she won't mind me borrowing these items.

"I will have to try really hard," the Sergeant continued with his cheeky comments and I was beginning to wonder if I should interrupt them as flirting. But surely this man can't be flirting with me? I mean…come on!

"I can bet, I can basically hear your inappropriate comments all the way over here Sergeant," I shot back at the man and I heard him chuckle at my comment: "Alright, alright, I'll leave you to your mess then. I wouldn't want you to injure yourself even more.

"Oh how kind of you Sergeant," I replied sarcastically and started pulling of my socks.

"Goodnight ma'am."

"Goodnight Sergeant." Cheeky bastard.

I hung up, changed into miss Pots dry clothes and went back to Morgan. I graphed the mob and finished the floor quickly and then sat next to the tub, so I could watch the movie and eat my sandwich. As I sat there I thought to myself that my life is so weird sometimes. Fifteen minutes later Morgan had enough and she got out of the tub, dried herself of and pulled on her pajama's. We both towel dried our hairs and when she saw I braided my hair sideways over my shoulder, she wanted me to do the same with her hair.

"Now we both look like Elsa," Morgan joked as she helped me clean up the bathroom. Harry Potter, Godzilla and Elsa…strange interests this kid has.

"I thought you liked Anna more?" I asked and Morgan pulled out the hairdryer from one of the cupboards.

"A girl can change her mind, can't she?" she asked and I could tell she learned that line from her mother. I chuckled and took the hair dryer from her and plugged it in. Morgan stood in front of me while I blow dried her hair. With the braid she would have curls tomorrow when she wakes up. She insisted she do the same with my hair when I was done, so I sat down on the toilet and she started blow drying my hair. She was almost done when miss Pots and mister Stark joined us. Both looked dead on their feet and I could tell their discussions hadn't been friendly with one and other. Morgan was luckily distracted enough to tell them what we had done and that I had fallen in the tub to notice it.

"If I need to see a doctor tomorrow, I'm calling this a work injury," I joked and pulled out the hair dryer and Morgan put it back where she found out.

"And we watched Harry Potter…" Morgan continued her story and mister Stark picked her up: "Of course you watched Harry Potter because what else would you watch. Hey Taylor, I thought I asked you to get my kid into watching something more like Star Wars?"

"It's a working progress," I answered and graphed the Captains phone as we left the bathroom.

"She's also ate something, so I think I distracted her enough to have a good night's sleep," I whispered to miss Pots and she notted: "Thank you Alex, you are a lifesaver."

"Nonsense, but if you remember my name when the Christmas bonuses come in, I won't complain," I joked and the couple took the kid to her bedroom. I walked back to the living area, where the Captain was waiting for me. His hair looked slightly disheveled, like he had been running his hands threw it one to many times. He was holding his jacket, searching it's pockets.

"Your fellow senior-citizen has been calling to see if you are alright. I picked up after a couple of calls to make sure it wasn't any life and death situation. He assured me it was not," I explained and handed the man his phone: "He asked to call him back when you had the opportunity."

"Ah thank you, he gets concerned when he's not in on what's going on," the Captain explained and dialed the number.

"I only mentioned that there was a situation at Mister Stark's loft and that he requested you. I didn't mention the break in," I said quickly and let the Captain make his phone call. I went to the kitchen to graph a plastic bag to put my wet clothes in. I ignored Rhonsons eyes follow me with merriment. As I walked back to the living room I noticed I was kind of hungry. Maybe I should get some take out on the way home.

"Sorry about that. I can give you that ride home now," the Captain said as I waited in the hallway with my bag and wearing my wet shoes. I was so looking forward to going home, but realizing I would only get six hours of sleep was very depressing. Thank God the Chinese take-out restaurant is open twenty-four seven.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you wearing something else earlier?" the Captain asked confused and I felt slightly flattered he paid enough attention to notice what I was wearing. I blushed slightly and chuckled: "I had a slight work accident. I slipped and fell in the tub with Morgan."

"That must have been painful? Do you want to stop at an ER?" the Captain asked with concern, but I shook my head. A stop at the ER is the last thing I need right now: "Oh no I'm fine. I'll just be sore in the morning."

"Are you sure, it wouldn't be any trouble," the Captain asked again and I assured him I was alright. I was saved by my bosses who came back from putting Morgan in bed. Mister Stark went straight to the kitchen and poured two glasses of wine for him and miss Pots.

"Alex, I want to thank you for tonight. If you hadn't stayed late for me, who knows what could have happened to Morgan," Miss Pots said and I was a bit unnerved when she very casually hugged me. So…this is new.

"I don't want to see you tomorrow until noon, you hear me?" miss Pots told me and I was very happy to hear that. I was really dreading getting only four or five hours of sleep tonight. Before I could even thank her or try to politely reject, she called to Happy that he wasn't allowed to let me enter the building until noon. He answered by mock saluting miss Pots and then pointing his fingers at his eyes and then at me.

"Fine, I'll sleep in if you insist boss," I said and couldn't keep my gratitude of my face.

"Good and sent the bill if you see a doctor. And I want my clothes back by next week," miss Pots added the last bit with a slight teasing tone and I rolled my eyes at her in response.

"Now let's get you home," she said and turned to Happy, but the Captain stepped in: "I'm heading in the same direction Pepper, so I can take her home. It won't be a problem."

"Are you sure Steve? I hate that I'm getting comfortable asking you to be a taxi driver to my daughter and employees," Miss Pots said and I notice mister Stark eye the Captain and me curiously from the kitchen counter. I found it to be unnerving but rolled my eyes at him in response to his raising eyebrow.

"No problem at all ma'am," the Captain said and I hooked my arm around the Captain's arm and pulled him with me to the door. Rhonson opened it for us and I avoided his curious eyes again. I'm not sure I like all these curious looks that I'm getting: "We will take our leave, so you can get some much needed sleep."

"Bye Steve," miss Pots called after us as I made us leave and I heard the smug tone my boss used when calling after us: "Bye miss Taylor."

When the door was closed I let the Captain go and turned to him: "I don't know about you, but I am starving."
