Sorry in advance.

Next morning:

Olivia was leaving the building for work when she noticed a car being towed. It was oddly familiar but paid no attention to it. The morning went unusually calm. The squad caught up with backed files and reports. At around lunch, Amaro came knocking at her door.

"I'm going on a lunch Run, you want anything?"

Glancing up from her computer, she nodded. "Where are you heading?"

"Subs."

"Yeah, grab me a-" Her phone went off. "Give me a moment."

"No rush." He sat on the couch.

"Benson."

'Oh, she answered!'

"Excuse me?" Olivia frowned.

'Hello, who is this?'

"Captain Benson with the NYPD." Olivia replied. "Who is this?"

'I rather not give that information. Say, do you know a Rafael Barba?'

"What's it to you?"

'To me? Nothing. But you see I need some information and he isn't in the mood of talking. So, I was hoping you could convince him otherwise.'

Her entire body went rigid at the blood shrilling scream she heard. "Rafael!" Jumping from her seat she placed the phone on speaker. Snapping her fingers at Amaro, she pointed to her team. "Rafael?"

'Mmm, he can't talk right now. He's rather occupied.' The man chuckled.

"What do you want?" By then the rest of the team had piled in. Amaro was on the phone getting the techs to trace the call.

'From you nothing. From him, I just need him to talk.'

"Then why call?"

'Didn't you say you were a captain?' He laughed. 'You should know the answer to that question.'

Another scream echoed through the phone. This was followed by a few curse words from Rafael.

'Liv hang up!'

"Rafa…" She flinched at a sound that could only be something hitting someone.

'Liv? Tell me, Captain Benson, what is Rafael to you?'

'Liv don-ugh.'

Barba:

Barba groaned at the fist connecting with his jaw. He knew what they were doing. Using Olivia to get him to crack. "I'm the ADA, we work together!"

"Right, that's why my men grabbed you exiting her place." Richard scoffed. "Well, I suppose she's just going to have to hear you die."

Barba gritted his teeth. "I don't know why you are being investigated. I have nothing to do with any of that!" His head snapped to the left.

"I am sure you are aware of how this process works." Richard placed the phone on speaker, setting it down on a table. "You refuse to answer, you keep getting hurt. You answer-"

"I still get hurt." Barba spat the blood that pooled in his mouth. "Unfortunately for me, I'm getting hurt for no fucken reason."

Richard sighed tiredly of Barba's defiance. "Maybe your captain knows something?" He waited for a reaction. "After we are done with you, my boys here will pay her a visit. Spend some quality time with her, before bringing her to me." Richard saw the spark in Barba's eye flash. He was getting angry. That's good. Making him lose control of himself, will make it easier to break. "I wouldn't mind spending some time with her myself."

His breathing began to pick up as he caught to contain his emotions. Although the chances of them getting their hands on Olivia was low, it wasn't impossible. Him being dead didn't help those odds. "You go near her and I will skin you alive."

"Oh?" He chuckled. "How do you plan on doing that dead?"

His eyes fell on the phone. "Hang up the call!"

"She hangs up and you die." Richard yelled. "I want her to hear you take your last breath. Scream from the pain."

Feeling the knife go into his side, he dropped his head while locking his jaw. A bubbly groan escaped past his teeth. "Liv!"

Olivia:

"Hurry the fuck up!" Amaro yelled into his phone.

Olivia couldn't do anything but stare at the phone. She couldn't do anything while he was being tortured. She felt utterly useless at the moment. "Nick I need that trace."

Amaro could only nod. "I'm working on it."

"Shouldn't we call Carmen?" Fin asked although he was already pulling his phone out. "She needs to know." Before he could even dial the number a shot rang.

The entire squad froze looking from the phone to Olivia and back.

Olivia stared straight forward not able to move or speak. She had heard the shot go off, but her brain was delaying the registration. Almost as if refusing to believe they heard it. "Rafael?" Placing her palms on the table she paused for a moment. "Amaro I need a location!"

"Got it!" He yelled. "We got it."

"Hang on Rafa." Olivia spoke through the phone, as she ran out the door. "I'm coming."

Time jump:

The cars came to a skidding stop, lifting the dirt around them. Olivia jumped out of the car, weapon drawn. They met up with Carmen and a few men she didn't recognize.

"Rafael?"

Carmen shook her head. "We know he in that building, we were just about to secure it."

"What's the hold-up?!" Olivia growled.

Carmen refrained from snapping back at the woman. "Desoro alerted to some explosives on the doors. It's being handled now."

Olivia turned to see groups of four men working on disarming the bombs. That's when she realized how close she was to losing it. Had it not been for Carmen, Olivia was sure to have killed her entire squad. 'Get ahold of yourself!' Looking away she took in a few deep breaths. "Any sign of the suspects?"

"No." Carmen sighed. "Desoro lost their scent by some tire marks."

"All clear!" One of the men yelled.

Carmen glanced at Olivia. "On me."

Giving her a stiff nod, they followed her down to the small warehouse. Desoro sniffed around, laying down as an indication it was all clear. One of Carmen's men grabbed the handle and pulled the door open. On one swift move, they all walked into the warehouse. What they saw was a scene of a slasher movie.

Barba was tied to a chair. His head dropped forward with no signs of life. His shirt was torn off. His chest was covered in blood. At his feet was a pool of blood.

"Rafael." Carmen gasped.

"Get a bus!" Olivia rushed to his side, picking his head up. His face was bruised, but otherwise fine. "Rafa?" Checking his pulse there was a moment of panic before feeling a faint bump. "I have a weak pulse."

"Let's get him loose." Pulling her knife, she cut his wrist and legs free. Amaro and Fin were the ones to pick him up and lay him on the ground. "We need to wipe the blood off. Find the wound that's bleeding."

Looking around she ran for the hoes on the ground. Opening it to a low flow, they cleaned the blood off his chest. She felt the blood drain from her face at seeing the gunshot to his abdomen. "Carmen his stomach."

Carmen cursed as she removed her upper shirt and placed it over the wound. "We need to get him to a hospital."

"Where's that bus?" Olivia kneeled beside him, cupping his jaw. "Hang on Rafa."

"They are almost here!" Carisi yelled at hearing the sirens.

"You hear that?" She whispered down at him. "You're going to be fine." Kissing his forehead, she closed her eyes. "You're going to be just fine. Do not make me have to tell Noah. You can do this to us. You promised to always come back. Don't break that now."

Carmen listened to the words Olivia spoke to Barba. The woman was on the verge of breaking down. Her words on the edge of being screamed. She hadn't realized just how much Olivia had fallen for Rafael, but the raw pain in her words was enough to know. 'You have to hold on Rafael. Not for us, but for that woman. Do it for her and Noah.'

Time jump:

Olivia stared at her bloody hands. The blood was dried over her hands. Her nails were red from the stains, some had gotten under her nails. It had been five hours since they took Barba into surgery. Five hours of agonizing wait. Her squad was scattered around the waiting room, like her waiting for any news. Her heart jumped every time the double doors opened, only to sink a moment later. Her hand wrapped around her stomach. She hadn't even told him he was going to be a father.

"Ma'am?" Olivia turned to see a man in light green scrubs and white coat over, standing before her. "I am Dr. Hale. I'm the surgeon on Mr. Barba?"

"Yes, how is he?" Olivia asked, she wanted-needed to see him.

The doctor swallowed hard. This was always the hardest part. "I am sorry to say this, but Mr. Barba was announced-"

"Don't." Olivia raised a hand stopping him from finishing the sentence. She couldn't bear herself to hear the next words. She had been in this spot so many times. Having to tell family ones their loved ones died. "Just don't."

"I really am sorry, we did everything we could." He placed a hand on her shoulder. 'Like that ever really gave them any comfort'.

Chloe closed her eyes, trying with all her might not to let the tears fall, but it was no use. She was broken. Her heart and soul were broken. "Can I see him...please?"

Dr. Hale nodded guiding her into the morgue. "Pass these doors."

As she approached the white steel doors, she paused. She knew what was behind them, but a small piece of her held onto hope. She hoped this was a sick joke of his. Payback for some stupid shit. Placing a hand on the cold door, she pushed it in. Taking a step forward, she kept her head down. The room was cold and silent. Nothing, but the sound of the flickering light above them. Taking a deep breath, Olivia slowly lifted her head, choking on her breath at the sight in front of her.

Barba laid on a long stainless steel slab. Seeing him there was wrong. So out of place. He didn't belong there.

"I will give you some time." Dr. Hale whispered, giving her a sad smile. He walked away, there wasn't anything else he could do.

Olivia walked up to Barba slowly, taking in his still form and pale look. A white sheet covered up to his bare chest. He still wore his bloody suit. 'He is going to be so pissed.' Olivia thought, only to remind herself where she stood. His chest was covered in dark red blood, some had been smeared onto his cheek. Grabbing a towel from a bin, she began to gently wipe it off. "You are not supposed to be here." She whispered. "You are supposed to be by my side. Helping me solve cases, getting on my nerves, driving me crazy. You promised you would always come back to us." She stopped her hand, anger suddenly building up inside her. "You broke your promise, Rafael!" Olivia yelled, throwing the towel at the wall. "You said you would never leave us. I need you, Rafa." Brushing his hair back, she watched as one of her tears fell on his cheek. She couldn't hold back anymore. "Damn it Rafael you're going to be a father! What am I supposed to tell our daughter?" She straightens herself up, wiping the tears off furiously. She needed to compose herself. "I will find whoever did this. I promise you that." She wanted to scream louder, to throw or punch something. Instead, she leaned down and kissed his temple. "I love you, Rafael." With one last look, she walked out.
